Just a year after Deathly Hallows went on sale in the United States and United Kingdom, the final book in the Potter series went on sale today in Japan. "I'm so excited I feel like crying. I'm totally enchanted," said a breathless young Japanese woman who gave her first name as Erina. She said she had waited outside the Tokyo bookstore since Tuesday afternoon. "I feel sad that this is the end but since I've followed him throughout the years I will be seeing him out, and that comforts me," she said, wearing a blonde wig as Luna, one of the main characters.

Wow, me neither! Top 5!!! Yay!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:24:53

I wonder if they were able to stay away from the outcome of the book. That would be amazing if they could go into it a year after it came out. I wish I could go back to the time when I had no clue what would happen in book 7!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:25:14

I would cry if I had to wait that long.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:27:50

to all those people crying about the trailer release, be thankful you dont have to wait a whole year!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:28:02

I wonder how the words "Deathly" and "Hallows" translate into Japanese...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:28:13

If i had to wait that long i would go to america and buy it. ive read it a million times now. its too important to live without! i cried when it landed in my hands. it was so sensational.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:28:14

This is the release of the translation right? Most people over there has probably already read it. But its still a very long time to translate a book.

In a way, Japan citizen are lucky, but in the same way they are not so lucky!!! If you know what I mean!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:46:32

wow, good for them they finally get to read the book. if anyone knows what deathly hallows means in japanese, please tell me =P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:47:04

I know what you mean Rose37. If I was Japanese, I would learn English fluently and buy Deathly Hallows off the internet, (thats if I had a brain like a sponge and could actually learn English that quickly lol), as opposed to waiting a whole year for the final chapters of Harry Potter..

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:47:43

It just went on sail! Holy cow.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:50:15

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:51:40

Wow. Excuse me for my stupidness. I mean to write... "it just went on sale! Holy cow." Once again, excuse me. =)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:55:52

I cant believe they had to wait an extra year!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:57:04

wow. that is kinda depressing. i would have bought the book in english and then translated each sentence piece by piece with an online translator lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 12:58:20

i do not like your title RIPFred_Weasley because for those people who have not read all the books might not know that fred dies so sad !

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:01:21

waiting a whole extra year would kill me!! but still, i wish that i could re-live the experience of the release night...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:01:26

Wow, I didnt know anyone still had to wait for Deathly Hallows. Its kind of strange, thinking that while we have been mourning about the "end of an era", that some people have still been waiting for the final book to come out. I kind of envy the Japanese, actually, because many of them are reading the 7th book for the first time at this very moment.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:06:45

I hope they managed to stay away from spoilers and that they would enjoy the book!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:22:37

After looking though so many websites and trying so many ways of asking the same question. I finally found the answer to the question to "What does Deathly Hallows mean in Japanese and the answer is : Harry Potter and the Treasure of Death and I am not lie either. It is true!!! This is the answer to your question, acciohagridxo and if you dont believe me the following is the website link: http://www.cjvlang.com/Hp otter/book7/bk7title.html or you could just go to google and type in "The meaning of Deathly Hallows in Japanese" and than when page comes out click on the first website link and there you have it, your answer in black and white!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:30:08

Thank God I dont live in Japan!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:43:11

Ohmighosh!!!! They just got it???!!! Oh well, they must be very excited! Enjoy it Japan!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) !!!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:51:54

Wow slow ass Japs! Wonder why it took so long for it to come out there.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 13:58:05

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 14:14:58

Its about time too..I hope nobody there got spoiled!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 14:21:33

I just got back from Japan about a week ago and signs were everywhere! I found it ironic that I had brought the American version of Deathly Hallows to read. Yeah, every bookstore and supermarket had posters and special displays. I bought the Philosophers Stone in Japanese and really wanted Deathly Hallows. So close... course, it cost about $40 for Deathly Hallows there and only $19 for Philosophers Stone. So expensive...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 14:37:20

thats funny, mugglenet posts two follow-ups after what i said. lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 14:49:41

awh, i feel sorry for them. they had to wait a whole yearr...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 14:59:19

omg, i cant believe they had to wait so long!!!! oh well, im sure theyre all extra happy and excited about what awaits them!!!! =]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:06:10

woowwwzers they had to wait one year!!!! i would go all the way 2 america if that were me...oh well imsure they will enjoy it as much as we did (:

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:17:15

Rose37...that cant be true. I asked a Japanese-American friend at school and he is SURE that it translates to "Super Ha Ha Fun Death Book".

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:26:21

lol, dont be stupid you guys. Its not like they ONLY sell the american version in america, you dont have to go all the way there to get it. no wonder everyone thinks that america is such a selfish country that doesnt know shhh about the world around you. I live in Sweden, I bought the american version the day of the release, I doubt that it isnt out in Japan. Though Im rather surprised of how some people in Japan dont seem to be very good in english, I used to figure that EVERYONE knew english. And I really dont understand why it took so long to translate, I only waited for three months for the Swedish one, and of course I had already read it in english.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:36:15

I cant believe they had to wait that long to get the book from the book store. Tuesday Afternoon! That must have been some long line. I just went to a Barnes and Nobles and got my book in about 4 hours it sounds like Erina had to wait 10 hours. Thats crazy, but Id do it too.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:47:25

What a great way to celebrate the week DH came out! I can imagine (seriously, i can) what those people must feel like. I couldnt wait a WHOLE year, but Congrats for them! :) This just shows how wide the HP fandom is, and how HP has been shared around the world.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 15:51:47

wow wat a rip off.. they had to wait over a year for it? harsh

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 16:19:01

over a year. darn, that sucks...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 16:30:45

Consider this SofieMalfoy: When you are an average age of 12 - 13, Japanese and just learning a second language, sure you could purchase DH in English, but would you understand the depth and concept of it? DH was quite comprehensive to say the least. Wouldnt it be better understood in your own language? (Im sure you understood quite a bit more when you read it in your own language 3 months later) You can be fluent in a different language, but reading it is a bit more challenging. So to insult Americans by calling us stupid and for you ASSUMING we believe only the American version is sold in America speaks volumes about you personally. Additionally, speaking a different language is quite different than reading it or writing it. So please, do not pass judgement on those of us who express our surprise that Japan had to wait a year for DH to be released in Japanese.

also people remember that i think the half blood prince was released later than the the english addition so they really didnt have to wait a year longer bacause theyve always been a year longer

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 16:46:57

OMG, if I had to wait an extra year for a copy of DH I would have run out and taken a crash course in English just so I could read it! That speaks to the difficulty of the Japanese language ttranslating English and vice versa, it took a WHOLE BLOODY YEAR to translate the entire book.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 16:59:43

Oh my gosh!!! I dont think I could wait that long for a book that has already come out a year earlier in another country!! I also am wondering how the ending of the book was kept a secret from them(even if they are on another continent).

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:06:40

man theyve had to wait a long time! i wonder if they know what happens already since our book has been out for a year....

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:07:18

wow, they had to wait a whole bloody year! and i thought we didnt get it soon enough....anyway, ill bet theyll enjoy it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:12:50

holy crap dude. were all of their books let out later then us & uk? that sucks for them fur shur

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:13:38

Wow, can you imagine just reading book seven for the first time right now?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:37:47

wow i dont think that i would have been able to wait so long knowing that some other country has read the book a year ago, i wonder how they were able to stay away from spoilers.. i know that i was spoiled the day before -___-

WHOA I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO WAIT THAT LONG!! HOPE YOU ENJOY IT IN JAPAN AS MUCH AS EVERYONE ELSE DID!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:49:19

: )

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 17:58:37

Wow, a whole year... kudos to Japan for being able to wait! I wouldnt be able to do it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 18:59:18

Wow, I never realized they had to wait so long! That makes me feel awful. I would seriously go insane if I had to wait a whole year when I knew hundreds of other people were reading it in other parts of the world so much earlier. But, celebrate, Japan, for today is a happy day for you!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 19:21:59

I went to Japan in February and looked everywhere for somewhere to buy a HP book but I never found one = Its really, really hard to find a book youre looking for when you cant read any of the titles and know you wont even recognize the covers . .

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 22:07:23

If they had to wait that long for the translation, then its no wonder that so many Japanese want to learn English!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-23 23:30:45

who would wait in a line for an entire day for a year old book. nub

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 01:27:00

The UK edition of all of the HP books are avalible. I found them at everybook store Ive been to. Im in Japan right now, and got my HP book yesterday. The lines were a bit crazy in Kyoto, but not nearly as bad as a year ago in Edinburgh. Im really glad I have all 7 Japanese ones now, though books 5,6,7 are all two volumes. Now if only I could read all the kanji. Good thing theres furigana in it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 02:11:43

Sugoi desu! Lol, I was talking to some Japanese Harry Potter fans last year and they didnt even realise that Deathly Hallows had come out in English-speaking countries. :P So I guess it wouldnt have mattered to a lot of people anyway, and also some of them would have read the English version. But thats cool for the people who can now read it for the first time! And lucky for them, because the series has been over for us for the last year, but its been drawn out longer for them. :D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 06:51:49

You mean to say that they just got their hands on the japaneese version NOW? They probably already know the whole plot though... I feel dorry for the people whove had it spoilt! :[

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 08:59:14

A whole extra year? Wow I would have gotten my copy from amazon! lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 09:49:10

That would be horrible if I had to wait an extra year for the book to come out. I feel bad for those people in Japan, especially if they had it spoiled for them.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 10:52:55

YAY!!! I have loads of mates in Japan! Im so happy for them, because I asked my bezzie over there whether shed read it but she said it hadnt come out yet! Im so happy cuz now she can read it! woot.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 11:59:10

They were waiting a whole year???!!! Wow

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 13:12:07

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! Poor kids (and adults). That is waaaaaay too long to wait! And, if you had friends from America or places where the book came out, then it would be extra hard!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 14:18:48

I feel really sorry for you guys who had to wait that long. Some of them must know the ending, though. Im sure translations were all over the web. PS: This comment comes from www.bestbooks4ever.com.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-24 19:24:15

holy goodness. took um long enough!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-25 09:07:20

Its nice to know Japan can finally experience such an awesome book! And for those wondering why it took so long to translate the book into Japanese, translating from Japanese to English must be difficult (English is Germanic, relating more to German, Swedish, Danish, etc. Japanese is pretty much in its own family, with a much more complex system than English). Also consider that even for a professional translator, trying to capture the essense of JKs writing style , but still putting it in a way the Japanese culture can understand, might take a while. I would assume the translator(s) wanted to make sure that the Japanese version is as near-perfect as it can be, especially to the fans who waited so long!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-25 23:33:37

Like I said before, R_U_Sirius. I could be wrong on the findings!!! Also How could you be in school still. It is right now concered the middle to the late part of summer. What time does your school start and what time does you school get out???

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-07-26 01:07:41

I cant believe they had to wait that long! I would cry! Its been over a year since it was released in the US. :O
