JK Rowling's charity to publish 'Beedle the Bard'
JK Rowling's charity to publish 'Beedle the Bard' Even though it's her and Harry's birthdays, JK Rowling is giving us and charity yet another gift. In a press release this morning, Scholastic announced that Jo's children's charity, the Children’s High Level Group (CHLG), will be publishing The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

You may recall last December, when Amazon.com bid $4 million to snag one of seven copies in existence at a Sotheby's auction in London. The books will be printed and distributed by Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon.

Jo had this to say: "There was understandable disappointment among Harry Potter fans when only one copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard was offered to the public last December. I am therefore delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon (who bought the handwritten copy at auction) – and with the blessing of the wonderful people who own the other six original books - The Tales of Beedle the Bard will now be widely available to all Harry Potter fans. Royalties will be donated to the Children’s High Level Group, to benefit institutionalised children in desperate need of a voice. The new edition will include the Tales themselves, translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger, and with illustrations by me, but also notes by Professor Albus Dumbledore, which appear by generous permission of the Hogwarts Headmasters’ Archive."

Scholastic predicts the book will generate around $8 million in sales - all going to benefit the CHLG.

The Children’s High Level Group works to make life better for vulnerable children across Europe, where over a million children and teenagers are growing up in unacceptable conditions in large residential institutions.

This is fantastic! Though I really wish she would write another book, I will definitely be okay with this! Though I'm not really liking how much the "Deluxe Edition" costs...money's tight nowadays. I wish they had made it like 20 or 30 bucks.

also the five tales in The Tales of Beedle the Bard are:

The reason the Collector's Edition is so expensive is because they're **reproducing** Jo's version, right down to the elaborate cover, plus a fake "book" box that it 'hides' in. Here's the description from Amazon (and look at the photos there... it looks amazing): "...and Amazon is thrilled to exclusively offer a luxuriously packaged Collector

Posted by chikorita1999 Jul 31st 2008

Yes, this is amazing!! I can't wait until it is released!! :D

Posted by lupus24 Jul 31st 2008

YAY!!!!!! I'M TOTALLY BUYING IT!!!!

Posted by Photobrad Jul 31st 2008

Sorry... the single quotes I pasted broke the post. Here's part of Amazon's description: "...and Amazon is thrilled to exclusively offer a luxuriously packaged Collector's Edition designed to evoke the spirit of the handcrafted original. Tucked in its own case disguised as a wizarding textbook found in the Hogwarts library, the Collector's Edition includes an exclusive reproduction of J.K. Rowling's handwritten introduction, as well as 10 additional illustrations not found in the Standard Edition or the original. Opening the case reveals a velvet bag embroidered with J.K. Rowling's signature, in which sits the piece de resistance: your very own copy of 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard,' complete with metal skull, corners, and clasp; replica gemstones; and emerald ribbon."

Posted by peroxwhy_gen Jul 31st 2008

Fantastic news! I cannot wait to buy it!

Posted by LunyWeasel Jul 31st 2008

That's awesome! It should be really interesting to read. What do you guys think...I want to re-read HBP because I havn't read it in over a year and I forget a lot of details of what happens in it. But I'm afraid that if I read it now I'll forget some of it by the time the movie is released. But if I wait to read it that means I'll have to read it during the school year and I might not have enough time to dedicate to it. Aaah I can't make up my mind!

Posted by Hermoine13 Jul 31st 2008

OMG!!! Thank you J.K. I'll be first in line 2 get that book!

Posted by Roxy2005 Jul 31st 2008

I also think that j.k. rowling had to wait until the winner of the what hp meant to you contest had gone to London for the weekend to spend sometime with the 'Beetle the Bard' book, before she had release the book to the public, so that it was fair to both her and to everyone else!!!
