JK Rowling's charity to publish 'Beedle the Bard'
JK Rowling's charity to publish 'Beedle the Bard' Even though it's her and Harry's birthdays, JK Rowling is giving us and charity yet another gift. In a press release this morning, Scholastic announced that Jo's children's charity, the Children’s High Level Group (CHLG), will be publishing The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

You may recall last December, when Amazon.com bid $4 million to snag one of seven copies in existence at a Sotheby's auction in London. The books will be printed and distributed by Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon.

Jo had this to say: "There was understandable disappointment among Harry Potter fans when only one copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard was offered to the public last December. I am therefore delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon (who bought the handwritten copy at auction) – and with the blessing of the wonderful people who own the other six original books - The Tales of Beedle the Bard will now be widely available to all Harry Potter fans. Royalties will be donated to the Children’s High Level Group, to benefit institutionalised children in desperate need of a voice. The new edition will include the Tales themselves, translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger, and with illustrations by me, but also notes by Professor Albus Dumbledore, which appear by generous permission of the Hogwarts Headmasters’ Archive."

Scholastic predicts the book will generate around $8 million in sales - all going to benefit the CHLG.

The Children’s High Level Group works to make life better for vulnerable children across Europe, where over a million children and teenagers are growing up in unacceptable conditions in large residential institutions.

When I first heard about the Beatle the Bard I was sorely disappointed they were only making seven. My friend and I debated the fact they just had to publish it! They would make so much more money then the couple of million from the original seven Beatle the Bard. Thank God they are , you can count on me being at the midnight release for this and the Hp Encyclopedia!

Posted by Mlefay Jul 31st 2008

YES! I do believe in miracles!!! Best news EVERRRR!

Posted by Rose37 Jul 31st 2008

I just wanted to point out that, tonight during work, the co-worker who stated that she will buy me anything within $30, said yes to buying me the 'Beedle the Bard' book, but only in regular edition, not the special edition, but that is fine. I still will have money lefted over to have her buy me, the harry potter book #1 special 10 year edition for me as well!!! Boy am I lucky!!! I don't have to buy a thing and all because of winning a bet!!!

Posted by hilol Aug 1st 2008

Posted by earendil367 Aug 1st 2008

You should have seen my face. I wasn't online all day yesterday. I got a notice from B&N about its release. When I saw what book it was, I think my mouth dropped! lol! And right now, my eyes are wide with excitement. I have to go reserve my copy! YAYYYYYYY!!!!!

Posted by earendil367 Aug 1st 2008

I just went on B&N's site. I find it vaguely odd and exciting that Beedle and the Bard is first as top seller while Stephenie Meyer's book Breaking Dawn is second. I like both authors, but that is an interesting fact... at least for me!

Posted by Bellatrix_25225 Aug 1st 2008
