Half-Blood Prince delayed until July 17th, 2009
Warner Brothers has just announced that Half-Blood Prince will be delayed. The film will instead be released on July 17th, 2009. From the press release:In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

Press Release:
BURBANK, CA, August 14, 2008 – Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
In making the announcement, Mr.
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed, “The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. Post-production on ‘Half-Blood Prince’ was completed on time, and the studio’s release plans for the two-part ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between ‘Half-Blood Prince’ and the first part of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.’”
Commenting on the release date change for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” David Heyman, the producer of all the Harry Potter films, offered, “When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer.”
David Yates, the director of both “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and who will also helm “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” added, “It has been a joy to work on ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.’ Dan, Rupert and Emma and all our returning young cast continue to blossom, and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films—we start filming in February—and I am excited to bring this remarkable series to the exciting and moving conclusion its loyal fans deserve.”
In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films production, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Yates, who directed last year’s summer blockbuster “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” returns to direct “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Heyman and David Barron are the producers, with Lionel Wigram serving as executive producer. Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are reprising their roles as young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film also stars Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis and Julie Walters. The cast also features David Bradley, Jessie Cave, Frank Dillane, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Helen McCrory, Natalia Tena, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Bonnie Wright.
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

madagascar? Madagascar? MADAGASCAR? COME ON YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! STUPID FU*KING MADAGASCAR??? OK IT IS OFFICIAL I AM NOT WATCHING ANY WARNER BROS OR DREAMWORKS FILM UNTIL JULY 17TH LOOKS LIKE THE ONLY TYPE OF FILM IM SAFE TO WATCH IS UNIVERSAL STUDIO'S! NOW IF YOU WILL EXCUSE ME I AM GOING TO MAKE A POTITION AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE. AND WHEN IM DONE THAT IM EMAILING DREAMWORKS AND ABUSING THEM!
You know the only reason WB made so much money for Batman is because everyone wanted to see Heath Ledger. They are so stubid for not realizing that. Well if it doesnt get put back to November i'm not going to see it on opening weekend, I'm waiting at least 2 weeks before seeing it, who's with me?!?! They've messed with the wrong group of fans, and they'll suffer our wrath!!!!! We'll see how much money they'll make if they push it back to July.
WHAT?!?!?!?!
Every year that a Potter movie has come out I have seen it with my doughter. She is an adult now and away at college but we still made plans to get together that weekend to see the movie together and now they have taken that away froom us. Such a sad, sad day in Potterville :( not gonna cry, not gonna cry sniff! My biggest fear is that this movie will get dubbed and flooded to the market then all of their money grabbing schemes will go up in flames!
Son of a belatrix!..... stupid WB morons steeped to a alltime low!...I HATE those greedy gargoyles!......Time to sharpen our pitchforks people!....I am in utter disbelief!.....july 17, 2009?!!.......well good luck WB cause you ain't gettin my money cause i aint buying a ticket!...and i'm sure the other hundreds of thousands of people you pissed off won't either!....Can't wait for someone to leak it online!....Didn't you make ENOUGH money with the dark knight?...geez are you sure you didnt change the date just because the dark night was released in july too and it made hundreds of millions of dollars?....hmmm......And i do agree that the reason MOST people went to see it because of heath ledger!.....So stop being a bunch of Umbridges and give us our movie in november you jerks!.......
The Madagascar comment blatantly isn't true. Madagascar 2 isn't going to make any money as it is - they wouldn't spend god knows how many millions paying off WB to give themselves a shot. Besides, WB wouldn't move their release date of probably the most anticipated film in the biggest selling movie franchise over a Madagascar sequel. If Dreamworks didn't want to compete with HBP then they'd move their own release date. We're all really pissed at this pile of crap, but don't go inventing stories....
Noooo! This is terrible! Are they so desperate about money that they have to delay a friggin movie for almost a whole year??? I hope the movie leaks, or whatever, seriously. And this better be GOOD.
What are Warner Bros playing at. First they delay there initial trailer, releasing it later than many other films do. Now they delay the film. Next thing we'll know is that they've decided to cancel the film altogether! Even though we have evidence with trailers and screenshots. On the BBC report of this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/ hi/entertainment/7562557. stm) it says that the President of Warner Bros. said "The picture is completely, absolutely, 100% on schedule, on time. There were no delays. I've seen the movie. It is fabulous." I'll leave you to think on what he means by that, but I'm guessing that the film has already been made, including editing and CGI!
The response is easy: just boycott ALL WB movies and TV shows except HP & HBP. And let them know.
oh my god a little part of me just died inside. I heard it on the radio news about 2 minutes ago and after nearly falling off my chair i rushed straight on here to find... it was true! NOOOO how can you do this to us warner bros?!?!?! i mean, its obviously pretty much finished because it was meant to be out in three months and they have released so many images and the teaser as well! as well as having to wait this means that daniel radcliffe is going to look so much older by the time they finally get to the 2nd part of deathly hallows! that has officially ruined my day. they had better give me a darn good trailer soon as compensation or ill hex their bloody socks off! wheres a time-turner when you need one?
This is absolutely ridiculous! Why are they doing this? For profit? So they could get more profit off of the film? They know that Harry Potter fans will go out to watch the films in droves! Are they afraid of competition? This is so stupid? This makes it seem as if this latest film isn't up to par. This change comes after they've watched the film (remember how Yates said he's finished final editing and the studio would be seeing it soon). It's like they watched the film and thought: "Oh no, this really isn't good at all. We need to find time to re-edit this film as best we could and create a lot more hype and get the least competition possible." Money hungry. And to think I actually thought the people involved in making this film were actually passionate about it.
I created a facebook group for fans to join if they would like the release date changed back: http://www.faceb ook.com/group.php?gid=226 16688887
This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional by WB. It is very few people that they will reach better at summer, because most of the people that wanna see number 6 are the fans! And the fans wanna see it now!!
What the hell? Nooooooo! I don't want to wait so long :'( And that petition is not going to work, they never do. Maybe this is why the teaser trailer took so long to come out.
This is absolutely ridiculous! All this says to me is that they don't care about their fan base, only about making more money. I am so upset and disappointed. I was looking forward to this soooo much and the greed of Warner Bros makes me not want to see it at all (if it was any other movie I wouldn't).
A WORLD WIDE BOYCOTT of HBP & both DH's is the best way of telling them how we feel about it all. THIS IS WAR Wands & brooms at the ready guys !! Seriously, WB should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, they're just greedy, selfish morons who don't give a toss for anything other than money. Shame on you, wonder what JKR thinks of it all?
ok. this is fudge ridiculous. COME ON, WARNER BROS ! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! SO pissed right now.
....What?
The filthy ungrateful WB is doing this because of tax reasons, I think. The Dark Knight and Harry Potter in one year means paing a lot of tax, much more than if they split the success into two years. But where is their respect for the fans? They owe us! Let's all tell them our minds, and boycott them. Boycott other WB movies if you can't do it with HBP. Or in the cinema pay for another movie and go watch Harry Potter. The more people do this the better we can teach them a lesson.
"Mr Horn said the strike, which ended in February, had "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films." Fantasy books He said: "The picture is completely, absolutely, 100% on schedule, on time. There were no delays. "I've seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November." " (From BBC News) If you were perfectly able to put the film out in November, why the hell aren't you going to? I hate this man.
This is disgusting, Warner Brothers are greedy morons. Let's complain! Please sign a petition which has over 6800 signatures signed already, you can help; www.petitionspot.com/peti tions/harrypotter6
I am pissed of right now. These are only stupid excuses. I do not believe a word they say. Something else is going on. They obviously want more time to finish the film and to advertise it. That's why the trailer was released that late. I am in tears. How do they do that now? They could have told us earlier. We've waited so long and now we'll have to wait one more year? I HATE YOU WARNER BROTHERS. I HATE YOU.
WB sucks. Period.
GAY
This is really upsetting us fans. What do Warner Brothers think? I read some comments on this and many said boycott WB movies till 17th July 09. It is not a bad idea. That'll teach WB a lesson for delaying Harry Potter since so many of us have been waiting for an entire year! Who would want to wait for another year?! Seriously, many of you won't! We can not give up, we'll make them change Harry Potter's arrival to November 21st! Let's boycott WB movies starting from now!! I am so surprised that the cast aren't shocked or appalled as us. This is definately barbaric!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! NOOOOOOO! This is like so sad. cruel, sick joke. April fools? Please be a joke, joke, joke.... On the bright side, this comes out three days after my birthday.
I wonder what EA will do with their game release... Anyway, I'm going to buy a ticket for another film and then go and watch HBP. That way, I'll still get to see the film but be satisfied in the fact I haven't supported WB in their serious lack of judgment. I'll probably do it with the other biggest competitor, just to spite them. They'll regret this.

well, if you do find a way. then let me know! i really want to watch the movie!
I still haven't gotten any calmer..and those new pictures just make me even more mad! Stupid WB.
ok after hearing this last night...I dont know how I honestly feel...I dont think a petition will do any good...and you guys are lying to yourselves if you say you wont watch it...I mean COME ON!!! ITS HARRY POTTER! lol sorry just hearing people say that just makes them sound as ridiculous as what WB did..I will see it regardless if it comes out in July or November...I mean yea I am am disappointed but gee I will live with it... there are far too many more important things than harry potter! and besides July is better for me because I work in retail and the week Harry Potter was supposed to come out in November would have been a bad week for me at least....I guess what I am saying is they did it and GET OVER IT! Its not life and death and who knows? maybe just maybe WB has more up their sleeve for Harry Potter.... than this lame reasoning that is lol
I am absolutely Heartbroken. This is the most stupid thing i have ever heard.
I didn't post a comment yesterday because i was speechless. But all I have to say now is this is BS. They don't have good reasons. AND they already released the trailer and everything... they're idiots......... =[ and now i'm depressed.
THIS IS EFFED UP! WB is pissing me OFF! Outta the blue they think a summer release is better?! Well they could've atleast effin figured that out EARLIER so they could've released it THIS summer instead of waiting a whole darn YEAR UGH
Oh my God NOOOOOO! I couldn't read Mugglenet those last few days and when I finally can, I find out that HBP has been delayed???NOOOOOOOOOOO!Th at's just awful, I am so disappointed and I totally feel like crying...JULY? JULYYYYYY? SERIOUSLY? THAT's 11 MONTHS FROM NOW!! 11! How can they do this to us?
guyz check this out..a lot of fans are demanding to put back the harry potter from its original release date.. http://www.petitionsp ot.com/petitions/harrypot ter6 sign in too.! i just wish the warner bros could see this.
Join the Facebook group to get Half Blood Prince back to November! It's called: "Warner Brothers: Keep the November Half Blood Prince Release Date" And sign the petition! It is over 8,000 signatures. There is also a link in the Facebook Group! http://www. petitionspot.com/petition s/ harrypotter6/signatures/p g/1
I can't believe this! July?? That's half a year later
All I can guess is that they had people in to test it out and it stunk so bad they felt they wouldn't recoup their investment. Look at all the advertising (interviews and magazine articles) that have already been written. They are losing all that buzz. To keep up interest they will need to keep articles going an additional 8 months from the original plan. Think about all the merchandising also. This is going to cause all the dolls, legos, video games to come out far in advance of the movie or will cause a loss of good will between Warner Brothers and companies like EA games and Lego. The movie had to REALLY stink for them to do this.
Support this petition! Many HP fans are already signing.. http://www.p etitionspot.com/petitions /harrypotter6 If they don't return the release date to november 2008, Let us BOYCOTT the upcoming WARNER BROS films. They are messing with the wrong fans.
We are not saying we are not watching it. We are just don't let WB get the money! They deserve it.
well that sucks. On the bright side we will be able to piece the movie together ourselves if they keep releasing pictures at this pace. yeah that isn't much of a bright side.
Such a rubbish idea. I'm disgusted at the way WB is treating the HP series.
Face it... this announcement will not keep a SINGLE one of you from seeing this movie in some way, shape for form. What WB has done is reprehensible, yes, but when it comes to a group of fans as die-hard as the HP fandom, WB could do almost ANYHING to make us mad, and we would all still see the movie. It is very hard to "get at" a company like WB. I guess if you boycott all WB movies, help distribute pirated WB property, buy tickets to some other movie and rush the HP theater, or some other silly thing, they might see a SLIGHT impact. The issue here is you really need to mobilize the fandom to come together against WB. And the sad part is, the HP "fandom" as we know it probably makes up less than 10% of the total number of Potter fans out there. Even if every person that ever read a HP forum or went on a HP chat boycotted HBP, it would still be the blockbuster of the summer..... Face it guys... WB owns us... lol :(
NOOO!!!!!!!! This had better be some nasty joke! That is so stupid! Goblet did fine in November, didn't it?! They'll be facing a riot if they don't change their minds! Stupid WB ruins EVERYTHING.
This is absolute rubbish! To push back the release for merely monetary and competitive reasons is ridiculous! I mean really! and to wait so late in the game to make the change. I cannot believe WB would exploit a solid fan-base like this. They've really endangered the profitability of the movie considering the film is almost ready for release and will surely will be pirated well before the release in July. I am FURIOUS!
WTF? HEY, GUESS WHAT, WB??? NOW I'M NOT GOING TO SPEND ANY MONEY ON YOU AT ALL!!!!!!!
Ok, my friend texted me this last night and then I read it and I didn't care that there were like millions of people around me I just screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO!" LIke superrr loud. I think this is the stupidest thing,,, but at least we know one thing.... HARRY POTTER IS SOOOO GOING TO KICK TWILIGHTS BUTT!!!!
