Half-Blood Prince delayed until July 17th, 2009
Warner Brothers has just announced that Half-Blood Prince will be delayed. The film will instead be released on July 17th, 2009. From the press release:In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

Press Release:
BURBANK, CA, August 14, 2008 – Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
In making the announcement, Mr.
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed, “The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. Post-production on ‘Half-Blood Prince’ was completed on time, and the studio’s release plans for the two-part ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between ‘Half-Blood Prince’ and the first part of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.’”
Commenting on the release date change for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” David Heyman, the producer of all the Harry Potter films, offered, “When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer.”
David Yates, the director of both “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and who will also helm “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” added, “It has been a joy to work on ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.’ Dan, Rupert and Emma and all our returning young cast continue to blossom, and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films—we start filming in February—and I am excited to bring this remarkable series to the exciting and moving conclusion its loyal fans deserve.”
In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films production, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Yates, who directed last year’s summer blockbuster “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” returns to direct “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Heyman and David Barron are the producers, with Lionel Wigram serving as executive producer. Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are reprising their roles as young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film also stars Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis and Julie Walters. The cast also features David Bradley, Jessie Cave, Frank Dillane, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Helen McCrory, Natalia Tena, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Bonnie Wright.
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

What the hell? :c O.O I thought this was April Fool's Joke ... until I realized it's not April. :< Disapponted beyond reason. I have to go through one whole year of darn school before I watch Half-Blood Prince. Definitely not worth it. You don't know how effing pissed I am.
I HOPE THEY ARE JOKING CAUSE WHAT ABOUT THOSE HP TOURS! ONE OF THEM WAS TO C THE PREMIERE IN NOV. UUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHH HHH

WTF! i am so pissed! they have probably been planning this for a while since it took them forever to release a teaser trailer! we were so close!!!!! it's not fair...... :`(
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...THIS IS NOT FUNNY. Ug...why do they have to be like this. I was so excited about the whole thing and now this. My goodness...this isn't funny anymore.
*points wand* Avada kedavra Take that, WB! This blows!
This is so totally and completely horrible... I don't get it at all. I was really looking forward to seeing this on my 16th b-day and now I can't :( Really, it makes no sense. Please sign the petition, everyone! At the very least it will show the fans opinion of this very wrong decision!
MsRassi-I'm sooo sorry, I feel all the pain:( This just sucks:(
I WANT A LIVE MUGGLECAST. RIGHT NOW!!
this has to be some kind of publicity stunt. Think about it, if you scared everyone into thinking it was going to come out eight months late, then actually released it on time, everyone would be way more excited to see it. Sales would skyrocket.
ZOMG! I KNEW they were going to do this to us! I even emailed MuggleCast about this topic since we werent getting the teaser as early as expected. But they never mentioned it -_- Ugh this sucks.
this is sooo unfairr we've ben waiting sosoo long for what?!! to get f*** up byy stupid warner brothersss eleven monthsss sooo unfairr!!! SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!JWHJIPHILHJIO EFOFJUBUBZRSDVZSD V M,JFBBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I have never been more pissed off in my life. excuse me while I go outside and scream very very loudly. okay, I am back, and crying. and shaking from my anger. 2008 is officially the worst year ever.
i am lost for words. how could this happen. i am so deppressed. how can life go on. this is awful. we were so close. im speechless.
you're f****** kidding me.
I, But, wha, WHA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANNOT BELIEVE THEIR AUDACITY! Basically what they are saying is "We feel we could make more money in 2009 so screw the loyal fans who have waited, we will release it when it is best to line our own pockets!" They were so blatant in actually pointing this out. This is absoloutely ridiculous. I am flabberghasted. I am half tempted to not go and see the film and instead purchase myself a nice illegal DVD. We need to get complaining, in our thousands.
I thought it was a typo. Last year, they moved the date UP. So I was like "Mugglenet, it's past July." And then I read..."2009".
to "lyinGShoosteR" maybe you should learn to read. "...and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films... yeah sounds like they're done and over...all in all it is still it is a MONEY move to lure in more viewers...tis all. ((crappy move WB))
*goes to sign petition*

WHAT THE HELL??? I am so annoyed right now!! What is wrong with WB?? Are they STUPID??? This is insane. Do they realise how many murderous enemies they have made by releeasing that statement? They are like the UMBRIDGE of the muggle film world. Harry Potter fans, we need to unite & be the responding D.A.!!!!!! WE HAVE GOT TO FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg no! I need something like anticipation for a potter film to get me to actually get off my butt and go back to school after the summer and now I have to wait till the next school year is actually over. Ill actually be able to legally watch a fifteen by then but I very much doubt half blood prince will be a 15. If this isnt one hell of a movie im going to be so mad! They're all about money arent they they said they werent splitting 7 for profit but because they cared about the fans but obviously they dont care about us. D=
Are you kidding me?!?!? This sucks! >=( I was really looking forward to seeing this in a few months... grr....
This is absolutely ridiculous. I am so upset. I hate this. :(
JULY EFFING 17TH!?
Oh. My. God. My jaw just dropped when I read that. I've never felt such fury and disappointment. Thanks a mil, WB.
THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! IT WAS SOOO CLOSE THIS HAS TO BE A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone boycott. This is for real, you have to boycott. Download the pirated version online, or pay for a non-WB movie at the theater then sneak into Half Blood Prince(this is easier than you might think). Please do not allow yourselves to be pawns of WB! You are the ones that pay their bills!

I totally agree w/ colorfulcrocs. I want to have a Mugglecast, and have them give us ways to (legally) rebel against Warner Bros. Seriously, I feel like the Ministry of Magic is running the WB.... it just seems like something Umbridge and Fudge'd think up! I wanna for Dumbledores Army and DO SOMETHING!!! I've already complained like three times to the WB... I NEVER complain like that... I'm just so mad I mean... over 130 comments in less than an hour.... people are MAD. I want to see some ACTION!!!!!
WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! It makes no sense! I mean they finished with the principal photography about 2 MONTHS ago!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAA ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGH HHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But anyway, THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Warner Brothers. "Shut. The. F*CK. UP." This is bullshit, I mean, they ribbon the official release with "Just a little longer." When it means, "Oh, we need to make a whole crapload of money in '09. Even if we DID have a mega-successful movie in '08 called THE DARK Knight."
WTF!!! WTF!!! WTF!!! OMG!!!!OMG!!!!OMG!!! That is SOOOOOOOOOOO wrong! I'm
I say we all get together and picket our local movie theaters on Nov 21. Torches and pitchforks, guys, we'll have a dandy time. First one to scalp Alan Horn gets a chocolate frog.
are we sure this isnt a joke? i was literally planned the rest of my year around this movie and if this announcement is real im gonna be pissed
this has to be a record for mugglenet on how fast people have responded to something. its only been thirty minutes and we are already on like 140. anybody know how many more days??????

UUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGG GHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAY TO MAKE EVERYTHING ABOUT MONEY, I HATE YOU GUYS THAT'S LIKE A YEAR AWAY
this is horrible, i cant believe they would do something so foolish, of course all of us are going to go see it anyhow, because we are die hard fans, but this is the stupidest thing ive ever heard of, i want to cry, i was so looking forward to it
