WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:

Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.

To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.

The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

Money. Money. Money. Tha's what really define the Harry Potter movies. Guys, tis people are just traing to make more money, with our money. We are just too stupid who spend time reading articles and photos of a movie thats is already made... I am sure in Christmas they are going to sell us calendars and other things, trying to keep the movie interesting. But a year is a lot time to wait. For me, the best is forget all of this stupid marketing and focus my life in thing more important. So, forget about Harry Potter and enjoy your life with families and friends, in the outside. Millions, millons, million. $$$$$$$$$$$$ Thats Harry Potter. And, they are not going to take millios libe Dark Night. That was a wonderful movie. Besie, the Harry Potter movies are fatal... at least thats the opnios of many people I Know. So. for me thats the end of the Harry Potter fan... Good luck for all of you. Good Bye Harry.

I've tried to post this twice, but my computer is being stupid so I'll retype it again... I come up with this theory after hearing that Twilight has moved into the spot left open by HBP's move. I believe that WB and Summit Films did a deal that would allow HBP to move back to July 09 and Twilight to move up to 11/21 so the two films wouldn't be released in the theaters at the same time... Thereby preventing either film company from losing money on these popular book series turned movie releases... Think about this... both film companies have everything to gain and nothing to lose by doing this deal. It's just TOO concidential that HBP release is pushed back 10 months and less than 24 hours later Twilight is moved up into the vacant fall spot. It's logical, it sucks for us HP fans, but since when has any film company truly cared about their fans. I love Corporate Greed, don't you?!

Wow great bs reason. You must get paid lots to give such a great reason to people who could ban together and avada kedavra your butt. So everyone sign that petition and call up those people. Who wants to hear my real reason behind the date push up?

Posted by coralys Aug 16th 2008

Well... the best way to hurt them is make a boicot to every movie of WB. Thats include Harry Potter and ll the productions are making the actors of Harry Potter, who I am sure are very happy with this Money change $$$$. And we should change this site to moneynet and not mugglenet. Well, no just this but all the fan site of Harry Potter.

Posted by REMiHEARTSRUPERT Aug 16th 2008

I believe Jo saw the movie and said wow you kinda 'f'ed this up REDO IT NOW! Or that emaa watson got pregnatn and wants to have the baby in a isolated area so peole dont know and take out there hatred of her on the movies. Now with the movie pushed up she doesnt have to go to the movie premiers. Good one eh?

Posted by BlackKat Aug 16th 2008

Please don't boycot the H.B.P. J.K Rowling has done nothing wrong, but she makes money from these movies (rightly so) so you wouldn't just be punishing W.B for this. As much as I despise W.B. Boycoting Harry Potter movies isn't the right way to go.

I think that this has a lot to do with the fact that Dan Radcliffe will be appearing on Broadway in 'Equus' during the time this movie would be in the theaters. The anti-Potter, Fundie crowd here in America would have a field day with the fact that Radcliffe would be walking the red carpet, signing autographs and taking photos with underage fans one night, then returning to the stage to appear naked in a movie with religious and sexual themes. This occured to my husband and I last night when discussing the play. I did a blog post about it on my MySpace page today (Myspace.com/TennesseeSti nks) ... WB would never admit this, of course. I suppose that they'd rather appease the "Moral Majority" here so close to Christmas time. The bottom line is still money ... but I think the "Equus" link fills in a lot of blanks.

Posted by tonks654 Aug 16th 2008

i am so MAD!!!!!!!! they should atleast give us part of the movie thats already been filmed!!! yesterday was the worst day of summer for me and all HP fans, who are still dedicated a like

Posted by PottyforPotter Aug 16th 2008

"We Love Our Fans". Pffft. I could just spit in your face, Alan. You don't "love" us. Pushing the release date back and making us wait for nearly another year is not "love". You don't love the FANS, you love their - OUR - MONEY. If you want to know what true love for fans is, look at J.K. Rowling. SHE CARES. She cares A LOT. She cares so much that she wants to give us an Encyclopedia detailing the rest of the Potter world and a set of wizarding fairytales with hand-drawn illustrations and everything, both of which are special and cannot be found in the books. And SHE doesn't care about MONEY. All proceeds to that encyclopedia and the Tales of Beedle the Bard will be going to CHARITY. She freaking GAVE you Harry Potter, Warner Brothers. I shouldn't have gone to see The Dark Knight, although it was very good. I can't believe this. You're cruel, idiotic, greedy traitors, Warner Brothers. I'm going to send you a bunch of Howlers. And I sincerely hope they explode in your face and blast your ears off.

SHUT UP WB ! IF YOU REALLY LOVE YOUR FANS YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR WORD AND MAINTAIN HP RELEASE TO THE 20th NOVEMBER ! We want HP back to november now!!!!!! Sign the petition that is running on the internet Google: Harry Potter 6 petition

Posted by ballet1863 Aug 16th 2008

I really don't care how much money these guys make or not, they went back on a promise and that is the WORST thing a human being can do!!! It doesn't really matter if the "young, core Potter fans" are in school or out, the movies have come out during the school year in the past, so why shift the date now just because of school? It really ticks me off that someone can be sooo cheap. Warner Bros. was originally created for entertainment, not profit!!!!

Posted by REMiHEARTSRUPERT Aug 16th 2008

Psh we all were gonna cut school anywayy DONT THEY KNOW THAT!!! Honestly I was going to a midnight release and be all jazzed for missing a day as a freshamn!!! DARN YOU WARNER BROTHERS!! Honestly thank god I didnt see Dark Knight (horray for not having good friends) Cause Im a bit mad.. no try FILLED WITH A HATRED THAT IS FUELED BY AN INTENCITY OF 10000000000000 WHITE HOT SUNS!!!! Honestly way to mess up my weekend WB.

Posted by Firebolt215 Aug 16th 2008

You obviously love money a lot more than you love the fans. Way to be classy, WB (not).

Posted by wontongirl Aug 16th 2008

WB SUCKS!!! THEY NEED TO READ THESE COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LISTEN TO THE FANS NOT THEY'RE OWN GREEDY SELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by sesaru Aug 16th 2008

This is bullcrap. I don't care what this Mr Horn has to say. Now I'm seriously considering not going to the cinema and instead, downloading it from the net and eventually buy it on dvd. I wonder what JKR would said (she REALLY loves the fans), not like this Mr. Horn. Yeah right, not hurting the movies/series nd we love the fdans crap, uh? I'm soooooo touched..... (sarcasm).

Posted by Maccii Aug 16th 2008

Has anyone any idea of how we could make the WB-people see all this going on everywhere?

Posted by REMiHEARTSRUPERT Aug 16th 2008

I swear to god this is becoming a bit out of control. Im starting a riot. Im dead serious *does the finger pointing to the serious face thing* If anyone would like to get our point across to warner brothers and you live in California were they're offices are (there in cali right?) send howlers and big signs painted in red and oragne and electric yellowto draw attention to yourselfs and show them mugglenet and all the comments by them reading the signs. I would be doign this but, hey new yorker right hurr (ahha ganstur like?) If not force them to understand that by doing this they are going to LOSE money (and they will cry like babys) because your (WB) hurting the core fan base by moving this to July 17th and THEY ARE GOING TO PROTEST. So your fighting a losing battle by doing to us WB. LISTEN TO MY IDEA PEOPLE IN CALIFORNIA!!

u know what i found out?! that TWILIGHT has being move from December to NOVEMBER!!! as a substitution to HP! i am not completely sure is this is right but... IM FURIOUS!!! I DONT WANT TO SEE TWILIGHT K? is NOTHING like HP i was considering go an see it like any other movie but now there is no way i will. IN fact, i will tell people "Yes i saw it and is crap, is boring and cheesy and has bad effects, waste of money and time, dont see it" we have to sabotage twilight, whose with me?!!

Posted by REMiHEARTSRUPERT Aug 16th 2008

We shouldny really sabatoge twilgiht. It did nothing to WB Wb did soemthing to us. We need to sabatoge WB

Posted by alyf Aug 16th 2008

This is soooooooooooo ridiculous. It's one thing if the date had always been in July.. but after getting us alll excited for November to change it is just crappy. Fans are going to go no matter what time of year it is. Not to mention its right around Thanksgiving so people have off anyway. Now we have to wait 2 years total between the two movies. ARG.

Posted by lu_2 Aug 16th 2008

twilight shouldnt be sabotaged... but i think it will i mean we are a very large population and we are all very upset about this change... i dont think many people will go to see twilight, their corporation shouldve known better

Posted by REMiHEARTSRUPERT Aug 16th 2008

They were blinded by greed EVERYONE is. But really how good is my idea. I think we should stick to it.

Posted by miami777 Aug 16th 2008

In addition to boycotting all other WB movies, we need to boycott the opening weekend of HBP. None of us are not going to see HBP, but if you just wait 4 days, we can ruin their opening weekend numbers. They will still get money in the end, but the media mostly concentrates on opening weekend numbers. It will be reported as a failure. I for one will not be attending the movie on opening weekend nor will I be seeing another WB movie.

Posted by pisces19 Aug 16th 2008

I feel strongly that Mr. Horn's "we love our fans" response should be added to the mugglenet wall of shame!

Posted by arwyn Aug 16th 2008

anyone know if there is an official movement to protest warner brothers? I know about the petitions online etc. But we really need an official boycott of Warner Brothers and if anyone can get out to their offices we need to put in a showing there to. If we boycott them and keep up a protest outside their offices they will have no choice. As for me personally I am NOT going to any WB movies, renting, watching or buying and WB movies. I will NOT be buying any WB products either. As for Harry Potter...I will wait to see I will not buy a ticket to go see it unless it shows at its original date.

Posted by Deadly Aug 16th 2008

this just proves they are in it for the money.

Posted by dracogirl12 Aug 16th 2008

i truly hate you mr. horn. your a selfish, lying, greedy jerk who doesnt love the fans. you love your money!!! i was so happy because the release was 4 days before my birthday!!!! how could you? its not fair. you can crush the happiness of MILLIONS just to get a few extra bucks!!! wtf did we do to you??? why do u hate us!!!??? p.s. i know that hes not gonna read this but i need to get my anger out.

Posted by Maccii Aug 16th 2008

I agree with you guys, annoy them where it annoys the most ;) Which is right outside their offices. I can't do it since I live in Sweden but if I could, I swear I would! Please everyone, do that! And of course, protest... http://w w w.warnerbros.com/main/hel p/customer_service.html

Posted by Refinnej7 Aug 16th 2008

Soooo...it's strictly a money thing?? I may just boycott this film. I'm getting more and more disgusted by this corporation.

Posted by krazykobra29 Aug 16th 2008

Oh, please. They don't love us. They love our money.

Posted by GatorMommy Aug 16th 2008

Again (look above, 4 hours ago) I think that this has more to do with Dan being in 'Equus' on Broadway here in the states than anything else. Warner Brothers is too Chicken sh!t to deal with the fundie, anti-Potter backlash of releasing the movie so close to Christmas with their star appearing nude on stage in a play that's controversal. I detest WB selling out to the fundies ... but I do think that the 'Equus' thing has a LOT to do with it.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Aug 16th 2008

money-greedy LIAR! go eat a stale PIE!

Posted by PADFOOT1997 Aug 16th 2008

Posted by sarandipity17 Aug 16th 2008

Those money grubbing jerks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! While the wait won't kill us, it doesn't make us happy!!!!!!!!!!! It's a shame that we couldn't get a boycott going until the weekend after just to show them that this fandom is like its hero!!!! We stand up to those who are wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by coolmama Aug 16th 2008

First, WB does not love their fans, they love their fans' money. While I acknowledge that money is necessary in a capitalistic world, the whole idea of 'I have money, you are not important' should be approached with caution. The reason WB has money is because we give it to them. The movies are only shadows of the books. A book that is purchased and read can be enjoyed many times. I am certain I will see the movie. I am also certain that I will see the movie only once, WB will get no more money from me than necessary. I am also certain that I will read all the books again before the movie comes out. The money should go to the person who created the Potter world--J.K. Rowling. Use your power to NOT buy merchandise that is WB based. Let WB know you are unhappy with the arbitrary decision. Did you notice that Horn said that he has already seen the movie? He didn't have to wait. Power to the people! Protest.

Posted by sweetpea831 Aug 16th 2008

that is a great, big, steaming pile of bollocks!!! WB is nothing more than greedy bastards that are focused on one thing, and one thing only...MONEY. they need to get over themselves and give the fans what they so richly deserve!

Posted by JoKatRowling7 Aug 16th 2008

"We love our fans"?!?! more like "We love our fans' MONEY!!!" for god's sake it's a HP movie!!! It's going to be a huge deal no matter if it was released right now or in January!! we love our fans, my foot!

Posted by Maccii Aug 16th 2008

Thing is they know it'll bring in a lot of money whenever they release it. And since Dark Knight was such a success they want to be sure they'll get another top ten-movie next year. they didn't have any "big" movie next year so they decided to move HP, since we'll see it anyway. they are so freakin evil!! x(

Posted by FredWeasleyrocks89 Aug 16th 2008

You guys are going to love this, I went on some Twilight websites and MTV.com, to see what they would say about Twilight taking HP place. All these people are saying that they knew that HP would back out because Twilight is better! I do like Twilight, but HP is so much better and now I don't think I'll even see the Twilight movie....Thanks WB, now all becasue of your stupid choice Twilight pretty much wins! Good job!

Posted by S_XoXo Aug 16th 2008

I wonder if on the day of the Half Blood Prince movie release in July 2009 there will be protesters outside theatres protesting and convincing people that were about to buy tickets to turn around, go home, and support us. The purpose being to warn WB to never again delay a movie with a fan base as large as Harry Potter's and causing their profits for HBP to plummet. If that does happen, I will be there protesting. Hopefully our goal will be met and profit for the HBP film will plummet, hence causing those at WB to deeply regret there decision for the delay. Aw.. vengence is sweet.

Expelliarmus! Ah, vengeance is sweet. How I hoped I'd be the one to catch you. I so wish I could do that to alan horn teach him a lesson. If you mess with harry potter fans you deserve the worst treatment.

Posted by mundung Aug 16th 2008

I am boycotting the movie plain and simple. We all should and hit them where it hurts-in the wallet. I have a vivid picture of the story having read it more times than I can count so I'm not giving them my money now when all they do is screw up the story somehow (look at the prior 3 movies), but to delay the movie 8 months is incomprehensible. So WE ALL SHOULD BOYCOTT-rent the movie later or get a bunch who have boycotted and watch it together-screw WB and there "We care about our fans" lies.

Posted by insanefreddy926 Aug 16th 2008

F**k you.

Posted by ArielRiddle Aug 16th 2008

I'm just hoping the petition and the howler campaign get the WB to really take notice and do something about this film date. Even if they can't change it back to November 21, it should at least be as close as they can make it to the original date. so that we don't have to wait until July. Help support these efforts, everyone, please!
