WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.
To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.
The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

I remember they didn't list America at first when they listed when they were going to release the movie worldwide. Perhaps other countries will get to see it first.

Groups are forming for different locations. We even have t - shirts and all. Just two days ago, some of the people who I saw fired up and ready to take action, saying that they would not let WB get away with this, are already giving up. This is exactly what WB had expected you to do. Of course they knew they would get backlash for their decision, but they knew given a few months you would stop caring. It hasn't even been a week. Even if we can do nothing to change the date, I feel we have the right to let WB know how unbelievebly rude, ungrateful, and inconsiderate they've been to the very same people who made them rich. With Beedle And The Bard being released, this was supposed to have been a really good end - of - the - year for us fans. But they took it away because they want more money to add to the billions of dollars they already have. Harry Potter has been a big part of my life for many years. I will not take this in silence.

Being a fan of both the films and the books i find it very dissappointing to hear that WB has pushed back the date of the next film. If I know the fans they will still go to the movie wether it is in November or in July, however I think when making this decision WB did indeed not think of the fans instead they thought of their pocketbooks.

As Harry Potters fans, we are all capable of taking the higher road here. If you are boycotting WB movies and the HBP film, either for the opening or entirely, one suggestion is to take the money you have saved & donate it to a MuggleNet sponsored charity. It's a positive way to channel our legimate feelings of anger. That's what I plan to do anyways....
Just dont go see the other WB films to get their attention. They want money, as well as we want our Harry Potter!. Why would they do it when kids are out of school while most films are released on Fridays anyways. Most movie theaters put it on at night as well. They really hurt most of the fans. Wow!....Can somebody say karma?.... A judge has denied a Warner Bros motion to dismiss 20th Century Fox's lawsuit over Warners' right to make a film based on the graphic novel "Watchmen." Ruling is potentially a huge victory for Fox, which could wind up as a profit participant in the film, and could cost Warners millions considering the film's box office prospects. However, Fox's legal team says it isn't looking for monetary compensation and instead wants to prevent the big-budget film from being released altogether. Saying this is about anything but trying to get more money out of our pockets and into theirs is just... Pettigrewish. And he is obviously not interested in MY money, because I can't go see a summer flick. I have small kids, and have to go when they are in school, or when I can get a babysitter (far easier in the fall when college students are here). By movie this to mid-July, I won't get to se it in the theater at all... instead of the several viewing I was looking forward to and saving money for.
