WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.
To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.
The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

It's because the economy is down and they are sandbagging shareholder profits for 2008. HP is a guaranteed block buster and since they've already had one this year they are guaranteeing themselves another next year. It's about $$$.
This is actually ridiculous. All they are doing in enraging fans, so much so that they are considering boycotting Warner Brothers movies. I think if this goes ahead they may be looking at losing more money than they expect because people will just be furious at them and refuse to see it.
Guys lets just forget about that and let the time go you will see that day coming . I hate WB
Sorry to burst your bubble Mr Horn, but we, the fans of Harry Potter, are NOT, I repeat, NOT fans of yours. We think your company is scum for it's money grabbing ways. I suspect many of us would've gone to see the film in cinemas more than one time each, but now I suspect you will not get that. I am calling on all HP fans to see the film ONCE ONLY. This isn't even about WB as a company. WB execs have already maxed out their 2008 bonuses with the unexpectedly maga box office performance of Batman. They switched HBP so they can max out 2009 too. WB shareholders shouldn't let these guys manipulate their pay like this.
"We love our fans"... but not more than you love money. This isn't "what's best for the movie," it's what's best for their wallets.

I am DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED in Warner Brothers. The Harry Potter trailer is already out in the movie theaters, for goodness sake! They already made so much money out of Dark Knight, but they still pushed back the Harry Potter movie just to make even more money! This is ridiculous! I am utterly upset, so upset that tears are streaming down my face in denial.
Oh wow, how patronising. I didn't know the majority of fans were school aged. I'm twenty- one and was Harry's age when the first book came out. I think it's his was of saying it's a kids movie get over yourselves. What an arrogant... The pure hatrid i have for this person is unreal, how the hell can u release the trailer and release dates for each individual country and then decide to delay them. I seriously think that everyone should consider not watching this at the cinema and have some will power and stick to their principles. if they dont reverse this decision within the next week, we should each write a formal complaint to wb.

Due to WB's incredibly stupid, insensitive and greed-driven decision to push back the release date of HBP, I have decided to boycott the movie, in a way. I hereby "solemnly swear" to pay for the stupidest, NON-WB, crap-fest of a movie playing next July, and then sneak into a HBP theater. WB will not recieve a penny from me. found this on IMDB post it as your sig or wherever you'd like to show support. Also they really think a few pics is going to calm this uproar down? Haha
Hahah, complete crap that is. You love the amount money piles you're rolling in right now, greedy (insert horrible deserving word here) at WB, all of them. In case they didn't notice, they are hurting everyone now!! The fans, the series itself... If they released it in november, kids would be out of school for thanksgiving!!! Most schools have vacation time around the xmas holidays too, plus time in feb. or march. And easter vacation! There are plenty of options to take if they're worried about kids being in school!!!!! The writers strike in no way could have effected them at all. Its a freakin book, so all the writers do is shrink the story so its 2 hours or so, and add in a few cheesy lines to attact the teens. They love the fans' money!!! Don't believe this bs they're giving us.

Its obvious they are just trying to make more money, the Harry Potter Series has been keeping WB afloat for years now, and they are scared to release them too early and loose the goose of the golden eggs. The same amount of people will still see the movie, the same amount of time. Just by next summer well have angry fans who had to wait an extra 8 months to watch their movie. Guess how much more we'll have to wait for the next film. Ah, maybe I'm just rambling because I'm upset.

No, WB, you DO NOT love your fans. You only care about the money. If you loved your fans, who buy movie tickets that pay YOUR salary, then you would not delay the release of HBP until July of next year. WB is not going to respond to emotional pleas from the fans. Since WB was honest enough to admit that it's all about the money, then hit them where it hurts. Don't go see any WB movies in the theatres. Don't buy the DVDs. If you want to watch a WB movie, get it from your local library, where you don't pay anything for it. And, I'll say it again, we're all still going to watch HBP when it is released, including me. Just DO NOT GO DURING OPENING WEEKEND. The theaters have to pay the largest percentage of ticket sales to the movie studio during opening weekend, and that percentage decreases with every subsequent week. The longer you wait to see the movie, the less money the theaters have to pay to the movie studio. We're not going to be able to change the release date for HBP. But, if we boycott opening weekend, WB might think twice if they want to decide to delay the release of DH in the future.
