WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:

Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.

To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.

The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

You know what's funny, though? You will all still go see the movie when it actually does come out. And all of you will complain about it because it didn't live up to all of your expectations. You know it. So why are you all bitching about it now? You can't influence the release date. WB's a company. They want to make money. They are not concerned with you at ALL. (Just my two cents.)

Posted by Biff Aug 15th 2008

Horn's move makes no sense. Because The Dark Knight is so successful, he's going to space out the next Harry Potter movie because it's a guaranteed success? He's worried that he'll have a strong fiscal 2008 but fall short in 2009. Maybe a smart move for WB's stockholders but without loyal audiences, Warner Brothers wouldn't have anything to give their stockholders. Horn and Warner Brothers should focus on making better films instead of manipulating the numbers and manipulating their audiences/customers in the process. If I knew there was a chance that my seeing the latest Batman movie would delay the next Harry Potter film, I would have waited for Batman to come out on DVD or skipped it all together. Knowing this kind of blatent disregard for the movie goer is going to be the standard business practice for Warner Brothers will give me no option but to boycott future Warner Brother films.

Posted by Maebh Aug 15th 2008

humph. still doesn't change the fact that I made plans to travel two hours on a week night to see it at midnight in 3-d IMAX opening day while in school. I'm sorry WB, but nothing you say will wash out the bitter taste you've left in my mouth. Your profit margins and weak summer schedule just aren't a good enough reason to betray an incredibly loyal fan base.

Posted by pacifickay Aug 15th 2008

They messed up Mr. Horn's quote. It should read: "We would never do anything to hurt the amount of money that we think we can get out of one of the movies or the series. We love our MONEY!" ...Jerks. :/

Posted by chommy Aug 15th 2008

He certainly doesn't have any fans anymore.

Posted by LunaLovegood123 Aug 15th 2008

I CANT BELIEVE THIS! I WAS CRYING WICKED HARD! D: I AM SO MAD AT THEM. THERES NO REASON FOR IT. THEY HAD EVERYTHING READY! THE TRAILER, THE DATE, THE MOVE! AND THE EFFECTS. I MEAN Y STOP IT WHEN U GOT MILLIONS OF PPL EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by winddom Aug 15th 2008

The love to fans is just plain rubbish! Rubbish!

Posted by Mattuk Aug 15th 2008

It all comes down to money at the end of the day. They know Potter will bring in the money and next year they have nothing that will bring that in, so moving this film is simply for that reason. I hate the fact that they dress it up as any number of excuses. The film is finished so nothing can be added to it. Its a simple matter of more money, which is why they're splitting the final into 2 films. I hate the Potter movies for the way they have butchered the plot, characters (especially Ron) and made it so nothing can happen without Hermione being heroic while Ron is made to look a coward. OOTP infuriated me by having Hermionie introduce Luna, not even bothering to explain how she even knows her. I almost wish the films start to bomb just so it bites WB in the backside, but theres no chance of that happening.

Please, everyone, we ave a chance to actually make a difference. As well as the highly circulated petition with over 10,000 signatures, there is another petition calling for people to boycott the movie's opening weekend. It's practical and can be done - most people won't mind waiting just for a weekend after waiting 8 more months. www.petitionsp ot.com/petitions/hpbopene rboycott Don't forget to take out the spaces!

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY TO BE MADE AND NOT ONE THING FOR THE FANS

Posted by Poloz_fury8 Aug 15th 2008

The guy looks EXACTLY how i imagined Voldemort!!!!!!!!!!!!.... .You evil greedy basterds!!!!!....Forget Ralph Fiennes the fandom wants you Horn to play Voldemort in Deathly Hallows!!!!!.......lol wouldn't that psst him off!!!!......can anyone do a " Alan Horn For Voldemort in DH films" petition?...that would be soo awesome!!!!!!......that would get there attention for sure!!!!!!!!!.......;)

Posted by yertletheturtleq Aug 15th 2008

LOVE OUR FANS...PLEASE...GIVE ME A BREAK. IT'S SAD TO SAY, BUT THE REASON THAT THE DARK KNIGHT MADE SO MUCH MONEY IS BECAUSE HEATH LEDGER PASSED AWAY. IF HE WAS STILL ALIVE THAT MOVIE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE AS MUCH. WHEN AN ACTOR/ACTRESS,ROCKSTAR... ANY CELEBRITY DIES THEIR WORK BECOMES MORE FAMOUS. SO NOW THEY ARE GOING TO RELEASE THIS MOVIE ALMOST THE SAME DAY JUST ONE YEAR LATER IN HOPES OF MAKING SO MUCH MONEY. LET ME TELL THAT A**HOLE ALAN HORN SOMETHING...WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS A DISGUSTING. THE HARRY POTTER FANS WANT THE MOVIE OUT IN NOVEMBER, NOT JULY. THE IDIOT DOESN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT THE HOLIDAYS ARE RIGHT AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE MOVIE. DOES HE HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH MOVIE MERCHANDISE WOULD BE SOLD? MR GREEDY. THAT'S ALL I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS WAS HARRY POTTER & THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE STUFF...NOTHING ELSE. WHAT AN IDIOT! I HOPE & PRAY THAT SOMEONE DOES LEAK THE MOVIE ON THE INTERNET AND I FEEL BAD SAYING THIS BECAUSE I AM A HUGE HARRY POTTER FAN, BUT IF IT IS LEAKED ON THE INTERNET FOR US TO WATCH...I WIL LWATCH IT THERE & I WILL NOT GO TO THE MOVIES TO SEE IF EVEN THOUGH I'VE GONE TO SEE EVERY HP MOVIE IN THE THEATRE. I FEEL BAD FOR THE CAST BECAUSE THEY WORKED SO HARD ON THE FILMS, BUT THIS IS JUST SO WRONG TO DO TO US. I HAVE WATCHED THE TRAILER ALMOST EVERY DAY SINCE IT HAS COME OUT, TOOK OFF FROM WORK & HAVE LOOKED FORWARD TO SEEING THIS MOVIE SINCE I LEFT THE MOVIE THEATRE ON THE OPENING NIGHT OF ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. THANKS ALAN HORN YOU IDIOT! HOPEFULLY YOU WILL READ ALL THESE COMMENTS ARE CHANGE YOUR MIND, BUT I DOUBT IT. I KNOW YOUR KIND & I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HATE EVERYONE ONE I EVER MET LIKE YOU! ALL THAT MATTERS TO YOU IS MONEY. DON'T EVER SAY YOU LOVE THE FANS...THAT'S JUST BS & WE ARE NOT STUPID.

Posted by CatQ18 Aug 15th 2008

What a load of shhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(pl ease excuse my choice of words) but this is stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I thought it was bad enough that they tell us that wait almost a year for this movie but now they have the guts to say that they "love their fans" AHHHHHHHHHHH I thought I was mad before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was looking so forward to this movie and then they have to go and ruin it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE WB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by piper1871 Aug 15th 2008

Shove it you assholes!!!! You don't care about us having more time to see it! You want money! Let me tell you something, nothing is going to reach 'The Dark Knight' numbers!

Posted by weasleyismyking17 Aug 15th 2008

if you would never hurt your fans, than why did you change it? IDIOTS.

Posted by granger1019 Aug 15th 2008

Ha, prove it then. This is absolutely ridiculous. Obviously you only care about how much more money you can make then instead of now. Honestly, I think you will have a MUCH better chance of making it big in November instead of July. You guys just dug yourself a DEEP hole about six feet down...

Posted by RudzXinc Aug 15th 2008

people should not watch HBP more than once in the theater, so WB would know that we are really really angry about this. and they would not get the profit they're expected. hopefully they won't make this kind of stupid decision again.

I'm sure we've all seen the four email addresses that have been posted all over these pages and that of other sites - everyone get emailing. Send as many as you can today and then send more tomorrow, and the next day. If you have more than one email address, send from all of them. Let's fill up the inboxes of these people at WB with our complaints, so that all they see all day are emails from Harry Potter fans. Keep doing this until we get the response we want. They'll soon realise how much they have angered us.

Posted by HPfanatic71 Aug 15th 2008

ROFL... "WB loves our fans"... what a bunch of bullshit. They love the money the fans bring em.. that's all. That's why they're also breaking the 7th book into two movies. A*holes. I'm so glad I have my set of the books. I'm reading thru them as we speak. Oh boy I do love reading them. So much better than all those movies WB has made. All filled with half the info there is in the books. It's been awhile since I've read them and man I've forgotten a lot of the great stuff in the books. "Cheers" to JKR for writing such great stories. !!!! "Jeers" to WB for screwing things up over and over again...

Posted by eldenk Aug 15th 2008

ok first of all it's all about the benjamins....and probably tax purposes, they already have their blockbuster this year so they don't want to avoid even more taxes with more profits. So the solution is to not go watch the movie at the theater...do not rent the movie, since this money all gets back to the studio anyway. Do, steal this movie off the internet or by any other means necessary. Get a group of 100 people together that would all seperately buy the movie and buy it once and burn it for everyone else....better yet, one person buy a copy burn it 10,000 times and leave it on the doorstep of everyone who lives around you. Greedy @$$holes

bloody ass hole. thanks for LOVING us MR.HORN for pushing back it FREAKING 8 MONTHS? 1 month WILL already be making me super pissed. AND NOW?? THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE!!!!!!!!! I FKING HATE WB

Posted by Mattuk Aug 15th 2008

It wont make a difference how many petitions people sign. It just adds to the publicity and WB know that people will be angry now, but come release time anticipation will be at a fever pitch based on the delay. Say one thing about WB but they know how to market their films. The Dark Knight campaigne was flawless and Heath's death only added to it. They would probably even use the peititions as hype, stating that the delay caused the "Biggest online release the film campagine" or something.

Posted by jharner2891 Aug 15th 2008

im sorry but thats a load of bull. Just cause one movie did well on a certain date does not mean when you already have the movie ready you change the date to 11 months later.

Posted by dobbyXkreacher Aug 15th 2008

I AM OUTRAGED!!! This is freaking horrendous. I'm so pissed right now, I've waited since last summer when i found out it was being released on november 21. I even started my countdown and everything, only to be informed the movie isn't opening in November. To me it sounds like they are just trying to whoop Darnk Knight's arses in money making. This has nothing to do with fans!

Posted by i_eat_death_eaters Aug 15th 2008

we love our fans? wanna kiss our asses some more so that we dont boycott cuz hell i dont give anymore and LOOK AT THIS QUOTE they are milling potter for all the money you could possibly and they r gonna get g8 reviews cuz evry1 will be so hungry to see some potter footage and the whole thing about longer theatrical span? they shouldve said--we are the greediest pigs walking this planet so we wanted to release the movie when we could rob you people of the most money ever heard of summer jobs, summer classes, and vacay???

Posted by Hpdizzle Aug 15th 2008

alan.horn@warnerbros.com this is alan horns email address sent him as many emails as possible to return the release date to the original...

Posted by dinky_diddy_kins Aug 15th 2008

Dear Ass-sucking, Money-hungry, Toenail-Licking WB, I hope and pray that HBP fails at the box office so that you can eat those words. It doesn't matter when HP is released, it will still rack in a sh!tload of money! You love your fans? Oh yeah, and we absolutely *adore* you right now. You are only postponing one of the most anticipated movies of the year back 10 months. Pssh, yeah we love you...WHAT FANS you ding-dongs?! All you love is your money you crapass bastards! Yours Sincerely, Royally Pissed off Harry Potter fan

Posted by NE0 Aug 15th 2008

ok, the last line should be corrected: We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our godamn MONEY.

Posted by Blueshadow Aug 15th 2008

Yea thats right if they loved their fans so much then they wouldn't have pushed the date to next summer. I mean its bad enough they already split the last movie, now they're making us wait. WB sucks. End. Of. Story.

Posted by weasleyisdaking10 Aug 15th 2008

I wish there was something I could do to scare these bastards! I mean really make them scared to ever do this again. I don't mean scaring them financially I want to scare them mentally! We all need to storm WB's gates, and threaten to burn the place down if they don't release the movie in November!

Posted by dobbyXkreacher Aug 15th 2008

Posted by powerfulmagic Aug 15th 2008

If the money WB made on Batman is partly the reason for this, I'm SO glad I went to see that at the theater. NOT. Lovely way to reward us for going to see WB's movies.

Posted by Gladiator Aug 15th 2008

The dark Knight did not make so much money BECAUSE of the release date, it did so well because of Heath Ledger's acting Job/death. HP fans should boycott the first opening weekend of the film, until the following weekend. Just to show that the date makes no difference.
