WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.
To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.
The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

They shoulda added this stuff: We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or series except push it back 7 months. We hate our fans.
They LOVE us?? No way, they LOVE MONEY....I'm super mad. And do they NOT think that those still in school will actually SKIP SCHOOL just to see this movie?! I mean, that's a risk worth taking for a movie series like this, that MANY people enjoy EVERYWHERE! I know teachers that would skip teaching their classes to see the movie for the midnight premiere! They'd make just as much money as they will next summer, so I really don't see how this makes ANY difference. I say we become an angry mob, go outside the studios, and start a RIOT! :]
they say it's not about the money, it's about the fans. and then they pull this stunt and say "look at order of the phoenix" that's so dumb!
Where is Jo? Why isn't she saying anything. I can't imagine her being happy about doing this to her fans especially with Beedle Bard coming out for charity.
You know, something really doesn't add up. The reasons for delaying the film, according to Dufus Horn, are that they can reach a wider audience in summer (eh?), and that they hope to repeat some of the success of The Dark Knight by scheduling it in that same weekend. 1. Does WB really believe that more people will see the movie in July than in November? Really? People who want to watch the movie are going to watch the movie. Thousands of new HP fans aren't going to spring out of thin air by then. I cannot imagine anyone thinking, "Oh, I wasn't going to watch the movie in November, but now that it's coming out next year, I think I will. " Duh! 2. WB cannot be as stupid as to believe that a release date has anything to do with the success of a film. As many posters have pointed out, Heath Ledger and his performance played a huge role in the success of DK, furthered by movie reviews and word-of-mouth. A stellar performance by any HP actor is hardly going to drive up ticket sales for HP movies. The fan base of the HP franchise has already been established. Something else is going on. Or they've been confunded. In which case I hope that they walk into a wall or something.
This was a really stupid move on WB's part. Not only is the greed so obvious that even the teenyboppers can figure it out, but the WB is alienating the exact audience they're counting on to see the film! Haven't they figured it out yet? Yes, the books are phenomenal; that's obvious. But the films themselves appeal to a certain age group that is quickly outgrowing the "adoration" phase of their lives. By the time this one is released, about 25 percent of their audience will lost their infatuation for the franchise and decide for themselves that it's not worth spending the money for a ticket! Note to WB: Corporate greed will come back to haunt you. Economic times are tougher now than they were in previous years. Audiences will remember this little stunt you've pulled. Suggestion: View the film, "The Big One" by Michael Moore. It explains everything about corporate greed. WB, you rank right up there with Walmart in my book!
This is all such BS.
anyone whos mad about this, join the facebook group "Warner Brothers, we're plotting our revenge"
this doesn't make me feel better at all. i still say they just care about the money. the reason is purely financial
"We love our fans" my butt! This is just another ploy to get more money. I will not go see this. Nobody should go see this, just to show them up! We should make a record LOW to show them not to mess with fans. Does this mean that we have to wait until 2012 and 2013 for Deathly Hallows instead of the 2010 and 2011? If this is the case, then I will sign EVERY petition there is against this.
If they loved us they'd put it back!!
If they loved us they'd put it back!!
ok i think.. boycott WB until HBP comes out... i mean i have too see HBP but i dont reeeeally need to see any other movie by WB... ive already seen batman so i wont go to any other movie by them!!
dose anyone know an illegal downloading website?
All your life you're told to do what you promise and when you'd promise to do it. And then Warner Bros tells you that it doesn't matter if you said you would do something one day, you can still push it 8 months forward. Yeah right, they love their fans. I so believe them... NOT! Don't know about you guys but I usually don't let the people I love down like that. OMG WB is so darn stupid! :(
Of course it's about money. WB are a business and money is what allows them to greenlight more films in their yearly budget. It sucks but had they not actually set a release date there wouldn't even be an uproar. Maybe they expect the value of the US dollar to have recovered some by next year too. Oh well, nothing we can do but wait and hope it's good.
AND! AND they give us TEASERS and TRAILERS to get us all excited, then they go and move the date back. I am SOOO mad!!!
can someone from mugglenet take the clock of the web page not much point to it now
"We love our fans." What a mockery on the Harry Potter Fandom. I hope WB get what they deserve!
EVERYBODY PLEASE DO NOT SEE THE MOVIE IN CINEMAS - ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD IT OR WATCH IT ONLINE BUT DO NOT GO TO THE CINEMA. IF YOU THINK YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WAIT THEN AT LEAST GIVE IT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND DO NOT GO ON THE OPENING WEEKS, JUST TO MAKE THEM PEE THEMSELVES WITH WORRY. SPREAD THE PETITION AROUND, GET YOUR VOICED HEARD. MAKE THEM REALISE HOW ANGRY WE ARE. THIS IS LUDICROUS AND WE'RE NOT HAVING IT! MAKE THEM REALISE HOW BAD A MOVE THEY JUST MADE! DON'T JUST SIT AND MOAN ABOUT IT, DO SOMETHING! SEND THE PETITION TO ALL YOU KNOW, DO NOT SEE THE MOVIE AND ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD IT OR WATCH IT ONLINE, THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY. PS: THAT MAN IS A F**KING UGLY PIECE OF S**T. MAYBE HE DID THIS BECAUSE HE'S ANNOYED EVERYONE'S PRETTIER THAN HIM?
can anyone provide me with an illegal downloading website so we can fix this problem if not my cosin is got resident evil before it was in theaters so maybe he could do this for me but i would rather download it from a website
This is effing RIDICULOUS! Gah, I wish I could Imperio WB' and make them push it back to November 21st! I've been counting down for HBP for 288 days! And just when I reached the 2-Digit mark, I GOTTA START COUNTING ALL THE WAY FROM 335? THATS BLOODY BONKERS! Someone make a petition, and I'll sign it a gajillion times. This sucks the evil out of Voldemort's dead corpse.
first off i am not a wb fan i am a harry potter fan. there is a big difference!! and if we were so important why are they making so many people so upset? they don't care about us. it's all about money. like they don't have enough!
I'm upset that they're doing this mostly for money; it seems to me that the people who are going to see Harry Potter are going to see it no matter what, so I don't think changing the date is going to get them more money anyway. But to be honest, this kind of works out better for me because I wasn't going to be able to see it at midnight or on that Friday on a school night and on a football game day :(. But I never wanted it pushed back this far!
juggaloharrypotterfan - a site is mininova dot com but you need to download and install uToerrent first (a program). You should also download VLC media player and WinRAR to make the torrents work right. It isn't illegal where I live but if it is where you are be careful!!!
this is very pathetic for WB. i mean common. it is so unprofessional to change a release date! especially since the dates been out for a long time.
is the Royal performance on novmber still going ahead as i just read this on the bbc new website Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had been chosen for this year's Royal Film Performance, on 17 November But he was hopeful a Royal premiere would still go ahead this year. He said: "The Royal Film Performance has been around for a long time and has a tradition of showcasing the best films. We are confident we will be able to do that again this year." Mr Hore added that he expected to make an announcement shortly.
Well I don't think that it would hurt so much to have it come out in November! la la la I'm not going to say anything more.
thanks Jaimieanne i already got a torrent so ill check out the site
ALAN HORN =UGLY ASS GREEDY BASTARD SUCK MY COCKTAIL WB!!!!
"We love our fans." Ha! Ha ha ha! That's so funny, I think I'll cry. Oh, wait - I am.
November is a better time for going to the movies, when it's chilly out. Just a thought.

I AM SICK OF GETTING ALL EXCITED JUST TO LET A GREEDY ASS PEOPLE RUINED MY WHOLE YEAR! I DON'T EVEN NEED TO WAIT THIS LONG TO WATCH LORD OF THE RINGS SERIES! I AM JUST DISAPPOINTED! LOVE? YOU CAN EAT THAT LOVE! I AM NOT LOVING BACK. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO THE FANS. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING? *shakes head*
fudge you WB! I've been dieing to say that, and seeing this man's picture just initiated it. :-)
this guy looks like a pig and even if i didnt know he pushed the movie back i would still say he looks like a pig this guy proable dreams about Fu*ck*ing donald trump greedy fuc*ks, if they would just release it in november i would pay 50 dollars a ticket to compinsate them
yes iloveseverus iagree. i am NOT A WB FAN, i am a HARRY POTTER FAN
"Love our fans". rofl. Yeah right! They don't love their fans! They just lvoe money!
Rawr. They just don't want to compete with Twilight, since Eclipse outsold Deathly Hallows last summer. Go to hell, WB.
OK if you love us dont release Teaser Trailer and then stall the movie have your stuff together BEFORE you get us all exited!!! THats like showing us a big candy bar and eatting it in front of us. NOT GOOD BUISNESS!!!
remusrox55: Eclipse outsold DH three weeks after the release of DH..twilight has nothing to do with HP...
"We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans." but you just did, maybe not the movie itself, but you did hurt your fans. if you 'loved' us, then you'd sacrifice a couple hundred bucks and put it back to it's original release date. And we all know why the Dark Knight has done so good, no matter what date it was released, I'm sure it would of made just as much. I don't think releasing this in July will do much difference, possibly none at all.
anybodyy ? give me your e-mail and then sign it and we can send it to warner brothers
HE DOESNT LOVE THE FANS HE LOVES THE MONEY!! SCREW HIM AND WB I BOYCOTT WB!! IM SELLING ALL MY WB DVDS.. Might as well make some money off it since thats what theyre trying to do.
What.A.Douche. That just made me feel ten times worse.
i bet that Alan Horn only wants more money to feed is cocaine addiction fuc*king junkies
I would have hated to be the receptionists at Warner Bros. this morning, I can't imagine the flurry of angry, irate messages that were left on voice mail for Alan Horn and the rest of the idiot powers that be at WB. And as for their claim that it will sales by having in the summer rather than in November. I've got two words for this joker: CHRISTMAS VACATION!! That's what God invented the weekends and nights for genius. Does WB think people stop seeing movies during the fall, winter and spring months? That they only see them in the summertime, DUH! For a Harry Potter film we'll make the exception. New fans are not going to materialize out of thin air, moron. If someone wants to see the film, they'll see it no matter what month it is. If they don't, they won't. End of story! WB are greedy SOB's and I hope their profits bottom out between now and next July, they would deserve it...
