WB responds (a bit) to HBP delay: "We Love Our Fans"
The LA Times has a new article up highlighting how upset fans are at Warner Brother's decision to push back the release of Half-Blood Prince to July 17th, 2009. They spoke with WB president Alan Horn (pictured left) about the matter, who tried to come up with more reasoning:Warner currently is riding high with "The Dark Knight," the Batman film that also stars Bale. The grim super-hero movie has taken in $452 million in the U.S. since its July 18 release, making it the second-highest grossing film ever.
To some degree, that success motivated Warner to shift "Half-Blood Prince," Horn said. The film will now hit theaters the same midsummer weekend that "Dark Knight" was released this year. Horn said the young, core Potter audience would be out of school and give the film a longer theatrical life. It will now open opposite Universal's special-effects comedy "Land of the Lost," which stars Will Ferrell. But Horn said there was nothing next year compared to this summer's especially dense slate of big-budget releases.
The article wrapped up with this quote from Horn: "We would never do anything to hurt one of the movies or the series. We love our fans."

Yep, I hope it leaks. Unfortunately, I don't have any cinema in my town, not to talk about Imax cinemas (which probably only exist in America... *rolls eyes*) If they want money so badly (I don't get why, though), then I won't give them any money, that's for sure! I'd rather watch it on youtube, even with the god-awful quality. I hate WB.

What is freaking wrong with them? They don't care about us, they care about getting a lot of money, and guess what?? They're gonna get money anyway!!!! THis really has been (aside from January and Feburary) the worst year of my life. I am very unhappy.

WB send out surveys via email today about buying on their web site. wish I had just deleted it! Who exactly do they think is buying from their site? Kid with credit cards? I Don't think so. I sincerely hope this decision bites them in the butt big time. They have opened other HP movies in November to huge numbers. The have none nothing more than allowed the HP momentum another 9 months to go cold. How long do they think all the older actors are going to hang around for them? I will sign these petition floating around, even though we all know from years of experience this will go nowhere, and I wont boycott the WB because we also all know if we stop buying there merchandise it also wont help. So I say we dont see the movie !!! Before you turn a deaf ear!!! Please hear me out !!!!! Because I know all of us as Potter fans will still go and see the movie , but I purpose not one fan but a ticket for opening night of the movie !!!!! We Have, i believe 355 more days whats one more ???? That means no midnight releases and NO FRIDAY SHOWS AT ALL !!!!! Because if you think about it opening night is one of the most important nights of opening weekend !!! well wb knows that people will go see the movie no matter what so they they've got us there , and I for one will eventually go see it too, but just to have my own little stab back at them such as it will be I refuse to go see it the first week it comes out, and I hope a lot of other people do to so it has the worst opening week sales in the history of wb movies
Ok, so just b/c "The Dark Knight" got such a BIG response this summer (I still think it's b/c of Heath Leader, RIP), that if they push it back, they might get the same response next yr? Reality check, every movie is different, every director/actor/actress, etc is different. I don't think it matters when you release it, i think it's how well the movie is put together!

"We love our fans"?! What B.S.! So WB is pushing the movie back 8 months from the date they PROMISED us just so they can MAKE MORE MONEY?! Hasn't the Harry Potter franchise already made enough money for WB? This action is incredibly rude and unprofessional. My high school drama department is notorious for being unclear on dates of events, and as a frustrated club officer I thought that the mark of a professional organization was its ability to get itself together. Apparently, even WB isn't above sloppy work. I can only hope that there's some other reason for this pushback that WB is keeping hushed up; if it truly is just a strategy to make more money, I've lost my respect for WB.

I would just like to say that Alan Horn is FULL OF CRAP!!!!!! WB is in charge of distributing The Dark Knight and Harry Potter...they are the ones who decided that The Dark Knight and Harry Potter would be released the same year, and now they are going back on their decision. This is the biggest mistake they could make and they are going to realize that soon enough!!!!! What's wrong with making almost $1 billion dollars in one year? That's what would happen if Harry Potter was still coming out in November. Plus, Nov. 21st is during the Thanksgiving holiday when kids are out of school...sp everyone is gonna have time to see it!!!!! Holidays are always a good time to make money...they should know this. Obviously they aren't smart enough for their jobs and they need someone like me to do it for them!!!!!! Love us? If they 'loved us' they would keep the date. The retards are just hurting themselves by moving it, not gaining anything. We already know how it ends. The movies are just added visuals and are optional. Many people are just going to say screw it, and go see the newest action movie instead because it isn't worth it. I say we give them hell. Send them all the hate mail full of complaints. Already my friends and family are going to wait until it comes out on video/netflix and just rent. What really pisses me off is that they released the trailer and all these photos and then decided, "oh lets make them wait, we can get more money that way!". No you can't and no you aren't. I saw you wanted to finish of the great legacy of HP - what a legacy, alienating one of the biggest fandoms. If you are going to make these decisions at least do it early on and stick to it - not after you have released the international dates (as well as a trailer with the Nov 21st promotion attached). I am seriously wondering what kind of decision making process is being used there. I am seriously disgusted with WB right now, and I won't have forgotten their treatment of fans once July 09 comes around.
