Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay
Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay Alan Horn, President of Warner Brothers, has issued a statement in response to the large amount of disappointment from their decision to delay Half-Blood Prince until July 17th, 2009:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Thats a big ol' load of rubbish/shhh.

Posted by General_Martok Aug 23rd 2008

What's more childish? The angry reaction fans of all ages have directed at WB, or WB's putting out a trailer announcing the release date and then announcing before many had even had a chance to see the trailer "we told you we would release the film in November, but now we're going to make you wait 8 more months, even though the film is ready to go"? As far as I'm concerned, no matter how old you are (I'm 50 btw), when you're about to really enjoy something and a bully comes along and spoils it, you don't like it. You didn't like when you were young, and you don't like it as an adult. We all have to suffer bullies throughout life, but many of us learned that the best way to get a bullies attention is to retaliate to the point where the bully will leave you alone or start to behave. Alan Horn and his fellow bullies at WB must be taught they we are not their cash cow that they can milk and at will. We are their customers and they have treated us very bad. I will not be seeing or purchasing any WB movies from now until HBP is released. Furthermore, I will not be in the theatre on opening day in July, or for several weeks after that. I will instead be enjoying a vacation in Scotland that not even a Dementor like Alan Horn can push back.

Posted by tonks_394 Aug 23rd 2008

They arn't bullies, they are a buisness. The goal of a buisness is to make money. Thats the only reason they did this. Not to psst us of and "bully" us.

I hate this guy! Who does he think he's kidding, "we care about the fans"?! He only wants money! For crying out loud!

Posted by potterboy22 Aug 23rd 2008

AND they just released a trailer a year before the movie came out!

Posted by Startori Aug 23rd 2008

I sent a HOWLER and signed a petition. But, I am disheartened & I have come to realize that resistance is futile. Idiocy & the inconsideration of the greedy movie moguls has prevailed. I must continue to reread the books and will have to forgo the movies altogether since the movies that my mind has created while reading the books is probably more entertaining than what WB could come up with, anyway. Thanks, JKR for enabling me to use my imagination to create my own cinema. And by the way, I'm way over 50 and but that doesn't make my disappointment any less. I stopped considering myself as childish long ago. (I'm saying this as some of the accusations I have read on previous pages indicate that some of us HP fans are whiny babies who can't wait or get their way!)

Posted by darkveils5 Aug 23rd 2008

Nice of him to try and comfort him but they're also making a two year gap between OoTP and HBP.

Posted by Miss_Ravenclaw Aug 23rd 2008

The root of the trouble for WB is that they said it would make them more profits. That really made people angry, and he has no comment to that. Yes, the first part of DH will be closer, but the point is is that they totally disregard what we want by moving it for MONEY. Mister Horn said it himself; the fans build the whole thing. If we're angry as hell, then there are chances they'll lose business. If HBP lost money, there would be huge news stories that could make WB look bad. Keep up with the Howlers, guys. We're doing great if they felt compelled to speak out and try to hush us up a bit. We're uniting and building our own Dumbledore's Army to rise up against them. Keep it up.

Posted by iluvhp91 Aug 23rd 2008

I say that we should all not go to see it the first weekend it comes out to show WB how pissed all of us are

Posted by ktb Aug 23rd 2008

boo. HP movies are so much better in the winter!

DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY!!!

Posted by General_Martok Aug 23rd 2008

Maybe we can't really do anything about this and maybe we can. Remember the fiasco in 1985 called New Coke? The reaction was so negative, Coke relented, gave us the original Coke back, new coke was gone within months, and the idiot who made that blunder to alter the formula was soon history. This is a perfect example of what the customers can do if they put their mind to it , keep the pressure up, and force the company to realize they have made a serious mistake. Maybe we can keep the pressure up and maybe we can't. However, if the film is still not released until next year, we can do what we can to keep WB from making more money than they would have if they had stuck to the original release date. As I stated previously, I am not going to see the movie until several weeks after it is released. If enough of us do that, that will drive the initial box office gross way down. We can also avoid the higher priced evening shows and instead only attend the lower priced matinee performances. If enough of us do this, Horn's grand plan to milk us for a paltry few extra million will blow up in his greedy face.

Posted by Davidaccio Aug 23rd 2008

WB made a serious mistake! And it is simple and will keep saying it, I am not buying any WB product nor watch any WB release in the theatre until July 2009. Plain and simple. WB wants to makes us wait just to make more money? Well, they will have to wait for me to make a purchase too! And on top of that, I am planing on seeing HBP around 2 P.M. when the theatre is empty, after the first opening weekend and pay for a movie made by another studio, and then enter to see HBP. What a stupid moron Alan Horn!!! He can take his "silver lining" and shove it up his ass!!!!

Posted by smaug_01 Aug 24th 2008

Yeah great business sense, pay a few thousand to release a trailer saying the film's coming out in November. Then pay another thousand to re-release the same trailer telling everyone that the film's now coming out in July.

Posted by gurdyroot14 Aug 24th 2008

How long do they think we'll listen to their crap?

Posted by Twilighterpotter Aug 24th 2008

STOP IT TWILIGHT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AND THIS DOESN'T STOP ME FROM WATCHING TWILIGHT I'M GONNA WATCH IT 2 OR 3 TIMES THAT WEEKEND ! I'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR HARRY NEXT YEAR. DON'T BLAME TWILIGHT AND IF YOU DON'T GO DON'T .... CUZ THERE'S GONNA BE ALOT OF PEOPLE STILL GOING TO SEE TWILIGHT ANYWAYS !!!!

Posted by lizzielovegood Aug 24th 2008

I love the way he says he is protecting the integrity of the books when the last movie was completely not loyal to the plot.

Posted by starlette804 Aug 24th 2008

i want to see half-blood prince NOW!! they dangled it in front of our eager faces and then snatched it away!! and just to make more money!! how horrible these executives are. how do they sleep at night?!?!

lol wwoooww. some of you guys amaze me. you boycott wb for one movie? yeah cuz that just says the end of the world. so what if we wait 6 more months for the sixth movie? we've waited 2 years so far, we can wait 6 more months! and so what if they want to make more money by moving it a couple of months? it's not like we're gonna pay more for the tickets just because its in the summer of 2009. you all would do the same thing in his shoes. now don't get me wrong, i love HP and was really looking forward to this movie but it's not the world to me.

I think the guy should have kept his mouth shut. But that's my own humble opinion. I'm very upset in regard to WB's decision. So upset, in fact, that I have expanded my vocabulary these past few days. Also, people that lash at us and deem us "immature" should take a few seconds to think before they speak. Yes, WB is a business and therefore keeps its best interests at heart. However, its decision was untimely and disrespectful to the fandom, and I for one will not stand for it. But....in light of the situation.... HAHAHAHAHA . Oh, my. "Posted by pure_blood_princess 5 days ago I say we all go to the opening weekend of Twilight and then send WB all our ticket stubs to prove that HBP would have been just fine (awsome in fact) coming out in Nov." AWESOME! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we do this? Hilarious! Going to Twilight and boosting their sales was good enough, but sending them the ticket stubs? Priceless. Oh please. Let's start a group about this or something. I'm all for it. Thank you, pure_blood_princess. That about made my day.

Posted by FawkesThePhoenix723 Aug 24th 2008

LOL I love how you guys are complaining about WB wanting more money... Um, HELLO they are a company! That's what they do. Get over the fact that they are in it for money. Of course they are! Duh, that's why the company was established, that's why any company is established - to earn money! Goodness, some people just don't get it.

Posted by dark_nymph Aug 24th 2008

Hmph! I still don't like it, but I guess I don't have to. They ARE a business, and they DO need to make money, something that often comes at someone else's expense (politics). Since we know that we will all still see HBP anyway, let's not think about boycotting it. No matter how I look at it, I'll have something to look forward to next summer, in addition to finding a better job than the fast-food one I have now! (Speaking of not making enough money...) Anyway, I think the best thing we can do right now is just to put on a good face for it. After all, is this REALLY the worst thing that could happen?

Posted by Weasley_is_our_King442 Aug 24th 2008

I understand their decision but, it is a bad one for the fans and the mvoie should not have been moved. I do not think this will effect their income for the movie very much. Overall, I am very mad about the decision. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?????????????????????? ????????????????????????? ????????????????????????? ????????????????????????? ????????????????????????? ? GREEDY COMPANIES SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

brillant!!!!!! u minimize d gap between d 6 nd 7 movie......nd wat abt d 5 nd 6 movie...i mean....wtf....i dont belive dey r so money minded...nd dey say dey care abt us fans......ah!!!!...i'll bet nytin...after all dis drama....dey will still delete more than a dozen sences.....i would luv 2 see who d wait will benefit...nd "HPB IS MA FAV BOOK"...dis seriously is disgustin........

Posted by Mary1950 Aug 25th 2008

Hey you all! If you don't boycott WB movies and sponsers you're playing right into their hands. This is about integrity. WB hasn't shown any this time. Actually, where I live, the movies theater has 30 screens so you can buy a ticket to any movie and then go to the one you want. Buy a ticket to a NON WB movie and then go see whatever. That way you see your movie, but WB doesn't get the $$$.

Posted by mundung Aug 25th 2008

Hey jaymartin, FawkesThePhoenix723, Hello, yes we all understand it is a business but along with running a business there should also be honor and integrity. First they have said for how long now that the movie would be released in November. The writer

Posted by mundung Aug 25th 2008

SORRY GOT CUT OFF-the writer's strike was over in April-so they had 4 months to say "Hey what movies do we release in 2009". then this summer they released TDK and made a ton of money so then they said "Hey let's move HP" and try and make as much money as possible. -now the honorable thing to do is leave HP where it is because really do you think they may make that much more money, REALLY? WB made a dishonorable decision and shows lac of integrity, as well as a lack of respect for HP fans. See here is the gist of the situation-if it was a one movie deal-okay no problem, BUT HP is a world wide phenomenon and has been followed since its initially release in 1997 so yes fans are angry and upset at the lack of R-E-S-P-E-C-T WB shows. I for one am boycotting all WB products-if need be I'll reread the book for the umpteenth time but I will not see the movie!

Posted by Hollyanna Aug 25th 2008

I would love to send this overpaid, full o'poop doofus the LOUDEST, most OBNOXIOUS HOWLER KNOWN to WIZARDRY. The explanation is poppycock, the concern for fans transparently insincere. WB wouldn't do anything to hurt us, what a load of bull that is. Oy! And pathetically, of course, most of us are still so devoted to HP that we wouldn't seriously consider boycotting the film. They've got us right where they want us.

Posted by _Mizz_America_ Aug 25th 2008

This is BULL$HIT!!!

Posted by popstargirle Aug 25th 2008

i think it is still wrong of the wb to do that no one cares that there is a less of a wait for deathly Hallows we were going to wait the same amount of time to c it before. i want to c hbp on the right date!

Posted by FawkesThePhoenix723 Aug 25th 2008

Mundung - Wait... lack of integrity? Dishonorable? I fail to see where you're coming from. The Harry Potter movies are currently theirs and I see nothing wrong with their decision to push it back. It was in no way dishonorable and it was in no way disrespectful. Honestly, I don't know where any of your (or anyone else's) logic is coming from. There have been plenty of movies (and video games... and books) that have had to be pushed back, even if they were finished at the time. It truly saddens me to see fellow Harry Potter fans get this upset and irrational. Boycott WB? Yeah that'll really work. Honestly, let's not get ahead of ourselves. You have to know that by boycotting you're only hurting yourself. Don't go see the movie just because it got pushed back? Are you all going to seriously get that upset over something so trivial? I mean, I can't even believe what I'm reading in this comment section.

Posted by mundung Aug 26th 2008

that's okay we are all entitled to our own opinion, I agree to disagree. Sorry but I don't find it trivial but those are my sentiments on the issue others can view this issue however they would like.

Posted by weasleyluver93 Aug 26th 2008

oh puh-lease!!! This is just another excuse as to y u changed the date!!! Does he honestly think that we're going to belive this?!?!?! He doesn't give a shite about the fans he just wants more money!!!!!! I swear, I am soooo bloody sick of WB!!!!! They're just a bunch of selfish rich people who don't give a darn about any of us!!! Just wait, next week he'll give another excuse for y he changed the bloody date!!!!

Posted by deanluver Aug 26th 2008

ok this is crap. you have to be mad to think we dont know that all you bloody want is our money. one thing i want to know is what the hell where you smoking the day you made this bloody disition? your hurting you self by changing the dates. i mean God not only r people mad you also have to change that dates on the trailer that is already out. how much of an idiot are you

Posted by Mary1950 Aug 26th 2008

FawkesThePhoenix, you sound like a PR person for WB. I guess you don't get upset much about anything. The problem is two-fold. 1st WB is pushing the movie back for money reasons only - greeed. 2nd the statements from Mr. Horn are patronizing , condesending and flawed. He believes that this will all blow over and the fans will put up with anything. The part about more people being able to see the movie in the summer is stupid. He doesn't realize that the holidays start in late November? That everywhere but sunny California has cold weather and people go to see movies then? What about the company who sells the toys that would have sold for this Christmas? I doubt anyone's going want an action figure from a movie that hasn't been released. Maybe Batman figures will take up the slack. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. There must be more to this.

Posted by BigE Aug 26th 2008

Boycott? Really?!? This just in: WB is rich. Boycotting is not going to accomplish anything. Everyone is still going to see it opening night and another 15 times after that. By that time everyone will have forgotten about these shenanigans and revert to their regular fanboy/girl self. It's called patience. Learn to have some.

Posted by Moaning_Myrtle Aug 26th 2008

This is so awful! I've been hearing rumors for a while now, and I kept delaying my visit to mugglenet. I was in denial. That was the whole plan for my birthday party!!!!! It's been a tradition! = \ ...kinda... This means NO MORE HP parties???? What? ------------ ~~~~~~________ these people broke their promise to everybody. The date was officially out in print, on the trailer, in theaters, newspaper, online!!! And they took it back and bumped the movie back 8 MONTHS????? what??? ------~~~~~~>>>>>

Posted by Cypresswhisker Aug 26th 2008

I am as pissed about this as you guys, but really Alan Horn didn't say that he moved it to shorten the gap, he just said that there was a silver lining. We all know he did it for the money, but it is his job to make money just like you guys. lol Anyway, I am pissed. They shouldn't have done that! >.<

Posted by can Aug 26th 2008

Like most of you I watched all the HP-movies in cinema more than once, bought all the DVDs, but I'm not going to watch HBP more than once in cinema and I'm not going to buy the DVDs anymore. There are enough copies online, even in a good quality and it's worth to join such a kind of boycott if WB treats us like a bunch of idiots. There are no acceptable reasons for this delay, they thought we're even not able to count the months between movie 4 and 5 and that we're going to believe their banal statements. They are wrong and they've just shown us that they even not understood JK's books. No wonder they cut out S.P.E.W. and other important things - that was perhaps to politically for WB-movies. They treat us like dumb audience but it's us paying their bills. So let's boycott all WB-products (DVDs, other WB-movies etc.) and let's watch HBP just once in cinema, if they don't pay us the necessary respect.

Posted by muggleTracy Aug 26th 2008

In the words of Ron Weasley psst! OFF! Alan Horn/WB you money grubbing pigs.I know he/they dont give a fling but My daughter and I had a deal that she had to have all the books read before she could see HBP and she read them all and she was so proud of herself and excited about seeing the movie she didnt think she could finish before HBP came out in November she was soo disappointed now i dont know if I'll take her to see it just to make a point to the money grubbing pigs.Where would all the HP series be with out the fans??

Posted by njaymaldito Aug 26th 2008

duh... whatever they say... only one thing is true... that their main reason for moving the film showing date is soooo economically... marketing people knows a lot 'bout this... Business is Business guys! We know it! Money matters most than our emotions... please leave a comment on my review... www.njaymald ito.blogspot.com
