Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay
Alan Horn, President of Warner Brothers, has issued a statement in response to the large amount of disappointment from their decision to delay Half-Blood Prince until July 17th, 2009:Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

I agree with SofieMalfoy. Alan Horn's statement is a direct result of our persistent emails, boycotting, complaints, etc. It's having an impact so keep it up! We might not be able to change anything but WB made a really inconsiderate, terrible decision and now they must suffer the consequences. The consequence of upsetting HP fans to this extent is extreme dissatisfaction, boycotts, and bad press. This will teach them to underestimate the strength and unity of HP fans. Hopefully the delay will lose money for them (due to our boycotts) rather than earn them the winfall that they're anticipating. Grrrrr! NOT HAPPY!
Listen people i need your to listen to me very carefully! This Hate against WB is not going to give nothing very nice in fact if you are continouing like that you are going to destroy the Deathly Hallows.Havent you get it why they moved the date.My brother works in WB and he told me that there are couple of reasons. 1.What Fox television have said about Equus is thruth, yes WB are helping Dan but they are afraid that they are going to loose the litle children as an audiense. 2.Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is needing the all the money because the last movie is going to need a lot and this what FANS ARE DOING TRYING TO BOYCOTT HARRY POTTER IS THAT WHAT YOUR WANT.TO DESTROY THE 7 AND THE 8 MOVIE.OR MAYBE THEY WONT CUT IT DOWN BUT ITS GOING TO BE WITH CRAPPY EFFECTS SO PLEASE I AM BEGGING AS A HARRY POTTER FAN TO HARRY POTTER FANS IS THERE SOMETHING GOOD IN YOUR STOP THIS MADNESS AND START COUNTING THE DAYS FOR HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. P.S SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH.
DONT BOYCOTT THE OPENING WEEKEND! DONT EVEN SEE THE MOVIE AT ALL THERE ARE PLENTY OF PLACES ON THE INTERNET YOU CAN WATCH IT FOR FREE A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER IT COMES OUT(BOOTLEG OF COURSE SO NOT THAT GREAT QUALITY) watch-movies. net sidereel.com
HEY DOUBLE_A YOU ARE AN IDIOT WHO IS TRYING TO GET FROM THE OTHER UNHAPPINESS HISS HAPPINESS.
what haripotar94? that didnt even make sense?lol
well isn't that just dandy. that sounds real nice and all EXCEPT for the thinly veiled lack of integrity that goes along with milking harry potter for all that it's worth shame. especially since one of the most important themes in the book is integrity.
Thanks Ginny4Harry and well said. You too bbb. One of the things that amazed and freaked me out the most was how brazen their statement was. They simply told us they were doing it for money. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR US!!! It was almost like they had gone insane. Like, they are so completely unaware at this point that they FORGOT that they are supposed to at least LOOK like they give a heck about the fans! Just awful. And btw to all those naysayers: I don't expect studio execs to NOT think about the bottom line. In fact, it would be pretty ridiculous if they didn't think about it - that's their job. This is a clear cut situation of execs going TOO FAR! Making sure your corporation is doing well is one thing. Pillaging a loyal fan base for what? A projected 10%? 15%? 5% larger profit margin? That's something else entirely Didn't they just break every record possible with Dark Knight? Greed! THIS is why a boycott is the only thing that will work because money is the only thing they care about. Even just a boycott of the opening weekend coupled with a promise to only see the movie once rather than multiple times (which is what REALLY boosts a movie's return - see: Titanic) would do it. I for one will honor a boycott.
Let's face it - if Warner Bros had kept quiet the fans would have felt ignored Now they've made a statement the fans are still complaining. The decision has been made so let's just enjoy Harry whenever & in whatever way we can, books, current films, new pics, interviews etc., & anticipate with pleasure the remaining films to come. Harry is Harry & thank you JK Rowling for giving him to us.
SHUT THE F*CK UP AND MOVE THE MOVIE BACK TO NOV!!! I HATE YOU ALL
If the folks at WB had been a small time business that was hard for money, this all would be so much more understandable. But they're not. They already have billions of dollars. What people need to understand is yes, business is about cash, but when they have so much as it is (that they wouldn't have without us to begin with), you should think of the fans too. What they are basically doing is choosing the cash over the fans. The cash that they already have plenty of. And whether it be Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings -- in general, its just WRONG. WB needs to be taught a lesson. Because seriously, what if we don't do anything? All the more they won't take us seriously the next time around, and they'll once again feel free to do whatever they want with OUR Potter films. Please, join this facebook group for The International Friends Of Harry Potter: http://www.face book.com/group.php?gid=23 519089579. We are planning live protests all across the world that is to happen at the same hour on the same day. We are trying to get media coverage, we have a press release sent out and everything. We already have 1000+ members, volunteering from places like the USA and Canada to the UK, Italy, and Egypt. We have shirts. We are planning to DO SOMETHING about this. Even if we can't change WB's mind, the most we can do is embarrass the HELL out of the WB in the public's eye for their greed. We have already had a mention in the LA Times: http://latimesblogs.lat imes.com/herocomplex/2008 /08/harry-potter-fa.html and ABC News: http://www.abc news.go.com/Technology/st ory?id=5605992. And the protest hasn't even happened yet. When Harry had a disagreement with the Ministry, did he just sit around and take it? Did he calm down because "Mugglecast" said so? No, he formed his own army, Dumbledores Army to stand up to people who were greedy and only cared about themselves. Please, the more people we can get, the more of a chance this just might work. Its what Harry would do.
yeah, jew. money money money money
SHUT UP Mattrixed no one wants 2 b nice 2 wb let us b angry u F*cktard
we have them sweating now. all this talk about finding ways to keep money away from them. this message was just a attempt to reassure us so then we would give up on our boycoot and actions. YA RIGHT!
potter93 in my country your statement would be called idiotic like some idiot who is bumping in a wall and he doesnt know when to stop.
Well said, thelexirumor! Also: At first, I thought the notion of The Studio sending ringers onto the site to malign our efforts and discourage our spirit was ridiculous. Now I think it's ridiculous to NOT think they would. Especially here and The Leaky Cauldron since both are the hubs for the disgruntled masses to congregate. It's interesting how Mattrixed is posting on multiple threads and every time it's with proWB sentiments.I think he's either a bored instigator or a Studio Ringer. Either way it's ridiculous. How you can side with the studio on this one is beyond me. And yes, on the one hand it IS just a movie... but really, it's MORE than that, it really is - it's about taking a stand against corporate greed. Also... a major film studio, I'd imagine, wouldn't make this sort of decision without planning. So they have known for awhile they were going to do this to the fans. That's why there hasn't been any major publicity started. They might have known pretty far back, in fact... but perhaps were anticipating having the fans look forward to it... then taking it away so they could look forward to it again... would create some sort of slingshot effect... PLEASE!!! LETS MAKE SURE WE DON'T PROVE THEM RIGHT!!!!!! We MUST show them what happens when they disregard the fans. The ONE thing we DO know... is that they sure as heck weren't anticipating a boycott! By following through, we show the corporate system that it MUST respect the little guys!
this friggin anouncement has made me even madder. they know that all the harry potter fans are pissed off so they try and justify it by saying they're closing the gap between movie six and the first half of movie 7? please. i know that harry potter was designed for younger readers but most of us aren't and are therefore not manipulated by the b*llshit that wb says. who do they think we are? i love harry potter but i will NOT be going to see it in the cinema. if hbp needed to be moved because it needed more editing or filming i would have been upset but atleast it would be justifiable because the final product would be up to everyones standards. but i'm afraid that it is obvious that wb just wants more money and, because of the writers strike, they believe that less movies will be released in summer 2009 which will make more people watch their movie. i cannot express how bitterly disapointed i am that after all the money they make they still want more. everyone keep writing to wb. we may not be able to have the date changed back but it'll certainly psst them off. also dont go and see there movies. i have vowed not to and i promise that i will not. WB ARE MONEY ORIENTATED SCUM!
Auntie B, you're right. if they had said nothing we would have felt ignored. Now... we just feel insulted. Alan horn issuing a statement makes evident two things: 1) He is REALLY VERY clueless when it comes to Harry Potter since he clearly doesn't understand it's fans. Did he really think that statement would assuage our feelings of betrayal??? Wow. And 2) The outcry HP fans are making is NOT going unnoticed... but it's not a victory yet. It's only step one. step two is making them legitimately concerned about losing money. The trouble is... since they probably have been planning this move they are committed... if they get scared, the types of things they will say behind closed doors might be, "But we CAN'T release in Nov... we havn't done the marketing." HP fans..... lets try to get the movie in November but prepare yourselves for it not happening... and if it doesn't happen and we don't make them feel it in their purses come July... we will have lost and they will have won and then they will know they can stick it to fans WHENEVER they want! Please. Let's not let that happen.
Siriusly_HP if you are not going to see it in the cinema then you dont deserve your nickname and you because of people like your we wont have DH because its going to have small budget and the only thing WB is gong to do is to dealay DH for years so please lets go and watch the movie.
Trust me, haripotar... WB is not going to CANCEL Deathly Hallows. the HP franchise is the studios biggest money maker ever. The only thing that will happen if we make a serious dent in HBP box office is the studio will realize that it can't mess around with Harry Potter fans cause we won't stand for it and so will beef up DH budget to make sure it gets done right!! Also, here's a little cnbc clip that brought out another money angle that I hadn't thought of... that WB is trying to make it's 2008 year better by saving on advertizing costs. Dang Dark Knight. Now I wish I hadn't gone to see it 3 times. :-/ http://www.cnbc.com/id/15 840232?video=824739889&pl ay=1
Zil if mad fans decide not to go everything is over because WB have said to the HP producersa that if they dont kick the 900 million HP is out.
Oh no November 2010 For Deathly Hallows?! November = No money right WB are you going to push that film back too! Ugh I'm STILL mad!
No money for WB= means no money for DH= means low budget or delaying the money for year. In conclusion Harry Potter fans loose the wonderful acting of the trio and the some other actors and the only thing that Harry Potter fans wins is tears alot of tears because of their stupidity to attack the one gave them the best moments in their lifes.
haripotar are you crazy? small budegt me ass!!! haven't we all just stated that the only reason they are doing this is for the money? if we all don't go and see it and protest against the release date think of the press we will get and the bad press warner bros will get. there is no way in the world wb would EVER not release DH and even if for some reason they didnt another company would by the rights and make the movie. so please don't sit there and tell me that doing nothing will get results. these people are money orientated scum and if they lose even some of the money that they will make from the last three harry potter movies then i will be happy. btw people send howlers to both warner bros and alan horn. DON'T LET THEM PUSH US AROUND!
Siriusly_HP I understand you anger but yet you say other company can do it ARE YOU CRAZY WB IS THE BEST MOVIE COMPANY AND EVEN SOME OTHER COMPANY DOES IT THE CAST WONT BE THE SAME THE MONEY WONT BE THE SAME SO PLEASE CALM DOWN AND IM NOT ASKING YOU TO DO NOTHING BUT NOT GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE IS NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT ONLY ATTACKING YOU ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE.Who are raising their children with their money.Do you know how many WB will have to fire.Do you know how many families are you going to destroy.Just because you cant wait eleven months. My Grandma is diyng and shes been left a year to live dont you think she cant wait for this year to die.
Why does this idiot continue to babble about the gap between HBP and DH? Does he honestly not realise we don't care, or is he just stupid? Stick your silver lining where the sun don't shine, Alan - you slimy git.
There would never have been this problem if greedy Hollywood paid thier writers what they deserve. After all without them there is no film. As usual it is the suits that earn the money and the talent that get screwed. As for this press release, how stupid do they think we are? A few nice works and another I love you and all will be forgiven. No Mr Horn not until the movie is delivered when originally promised! Perhaps we should refuse to pay for any of their products and send them an IOU for eight months later!!!! (although personally i'm boycotting all WB merchandise and movies)
Boycott WB movies but dont Boycott HBP.
WB 'loves' HP fans, but they love our money more. Yes, WB has the right to move back the release. However, why put the fans through this? Releasing teasers, trailors and whatever else only to take it away. It was foolish of them. There is no technical difficulty, the film has been through the production process and now it will sit on a shelf until July next year. I think WB has made a mistake. The hype around the last book is rapidly declining, kids are moving on. Shelving the movie may in fact damage its potential to make $$.
WELL HARRY POTTER FANS WHAT DO YOU THINK IF HBP HAS LITTLE MONEY WHAT WOULD WB DO WELL THEY WILL CLOSE DH BUT NO OTHER COMPANY CAN DO IT BECAUSE WB HAS THE LICENSE SO BECAUSE OF YOUR THERE WILL BE NO MORE HARRY POTTER MOVIES OR IF THERES GOING TO BE THEY ARE GOING TO BE WITH REALLY LOW QUALUTY. SO STOP THIS BOYCOTING WHILE YOU CAN 11 MONTHS IS NO TIME.
If Deathly Hallows part 1 is due out in November 2010 whats stopping him announcing that date offically nearer the time then delaying it till summer 2011 in a bid to make more money again. Then we'd have to wait just as long between 6 and part 1 of 7 as we will have had to wait between 5 and 6. If thats turns out to be the case then saying we will have to wait less between the two movies in his statement will have been a lie. So when it comes really close to November 2010 I'm not going to expect it to come out then and get excited about it until I'm actually in the cinema watching the movie, that way if they do delay it again I shouldn't hopefully be as disapointed as I am now.
Why do they treat us fans like this. It makes me so mad. It's all about money. I have set up a facebook group about it. You will find it here http://www.new.face book.com/group.php?gid=28 859875107 lets boycott the opening weekend and hit warner brothers were it hurts! At the bank lol
haripotar - can you prise your finger off the capslock key, please?
lupinandtonks2008 NOW THIS IS JUST CRAP THEYLL NOT DO THAT AND FROM WHERE DO YOU NOW THAT THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE READY AND MAYBE THIS IS CONNECTED WITH Daniels disease.
Ohhh dear... well at the end of the day they only really make the movies to make money, NOT for the fan. So if they want to firstly go ahead and make a mockery out of the books into excuses for a movie, then disappoint the fans by doing this kind of dribble like delaying it 7 months. Well all I can say is I'm downloading it now, whereas I'd like to think I'm a loyal fan and would pay entry price... But boycotting is a way to get through to these big shots heads. Money doesn't make the world go round!
horsesh*t
thousandsofmiles ok you are going to boycott what are your going to win + that you want feel the magic of the movie.
This is probably just another excuse....
harripotar94 go kiss wb ass somewhere else. you bore me.
no matter HOW MUCH you tell us you love us; the point is you're putting profit before people. actions speak louder than words, Mr. Horn. you don't love us, you're just a greedy old man who'd rather make enough money to fund the purchase of that new merc (aka: mid-life crisis car) than look after those who are funding that dream. you have the power to make millions happy, or to make yourself happy whilst destroying us in the process. it's disgusting that you choose to watch us fall in order to make a proportionally small amount of profit in addition to the millions you will make if the movie is released in december anyway. rethink. www. petitionspot.com/petition s/harrypotter6
To those of you who are saying that the movie doesn't belong to us: Don't be a fool! The ONLY reason why these movies are so successful is because of the loyal fans of HP! This movie is not "in production" - it's finished! It's already "in the can"! I do understand that because of the writer's strike, the final two installments of the films will have to be postponed. But this film was already written and filming when the writer's strike occurred. If WB had come out and announced the delay for the next films due to the writer's strike, I'm sure we would have all understood. We're forgiving that way. But the greed of WB is shining through, and they have chosen to postpone the premiere of HBP because they wanted to show a large profit for three years in a row rather than one HUGE year (this year due to Dark Knight and HBP) followed by a lackluster year. He knows the shareholders would read that as a failure, and he knows that his job would then be on the line. It's called "corporate greed". I'm NOT buying into it. WB stands to make far less money from the sale of a DVD than from the sale of a theatre ticket. If I have to wait until next July, it's no big deal to me to wait another 4 months afterward to purchase the DVD at Target and put less money into this man's pocket!
Mr Horn is just an messenger and you are attacking him like he had just stopped the Harry Potter movies. Why dont you get a life and stop being a cry babies Oh we are going to boycott I WANT MAMA this is just stupid I love Harry Poter and Im going to wait untill 17 july 2009 because Ive got a life i have other things on my head. SO MY ADVICE TO YOUR IS GET A LIFE.LITTLE BABIES.
Alan Horn Is A Douchebag
okay then if you say so..... NOT!! come on WB!!!
WHAT KIND OF fudge SILVER LINING IS THAT!!!!! We are still waiting the same ammount of time and having to wait more for a film that was only 3 months away is supposed to make us feel better? BULLSHIT!!!! GO fudge YOURSELF ALAN "HORNY" WHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
So in other words....we(WB) don't care what you(the Fans) think. So screw you!
Like Voldemort, WB is spreading discourse among us. PEOPLE! Stop all the griping and mud slinging at each other and aim it where it belongs, Warner Bros. and it's executives. This new statement shows that we are being heard. We need to continue to buzz like gnats around a sleeping dragon's head. Will it change anything...prolly not, but it will make WB and other studio executives think twice before making greed based decisions. ~~Spazzy~~
"Mr Horn is just an messenger and you are attacking him like he had just stopped the Harry Potter movies. Why dont you get a life and stop being a cry babies Oh we are going to boycott I WANT MAMA this is just stupid I love Harry Poter and Im going to wait untill 17 july 2009 because Ive got a life i have other things on my head. SO MY ADVICE TO YOUR IS GET A LIFE.LITTLE BABIES" Douche....didn 't even spell Potter right.
Alan Horn needs to realize that they messed up OotP . If they are going to make us wait, then the movie better be exactly like the book. If not, then I will not even see DH. Two movies messed up? I think not!! And I will not be seeing it opening weekend!
I don't work for WB. Just because I have a differing opinion than yours, doesn't make me an agent for WB. Either way, I never explicitly supported WB's decision. I would obviously have preferred if the movie was going to be released in November. But, I have a life outside of HP. I like other things too, and I can wait a few extra months because it's just a movie and I don't need it to live. An HP movie is not necessary for life...this decision will not cause anyone to die. Sure you're pissed off, but guess what: $h!t happens. Now, instead of continuing to whine about it like a bunch of kids, be mature about it, accept the delay, send your email to WB to let them know what you think, but be polite about it, and don't act like a bunch of rabid dogs. Every time I see profanity or threats directed at WB, Alan Horn, or myself (which has happened a few times so far), I immediately disregard that persons opinion as that of an immature idiot. While most of you may not agree with my viewpoint on this matter, you can surely agree that I have handled this event and the ensuing discussion much more maturely than a majority of the people commenting here. Sincerely, 20 year old male Mattrixed, a university student, not a WB employee.
@ MATTRIXED: Yes, you're right, by delaying HBP, WB made a business decision, they are in the money making business, and it's their prerogative to do so, there's nothing immoral about that. It's capitalism and it's a free market. BUT if you accept this, then you also have to accept the following: WE DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE UPSET AND COMPLAIN. Just think about it. If you have a bad experience on an airline, what do yo do? You file a complaint, and you don't fly with them anymore, you switch to another carrier. What do you do when you have a bad experience at a restaurant? You leave a bad tip or no tip and/or complain and you probably won't eat there anymore. If you don't receive the expected service or product you pay for from any other company, you usually file a complaint and/or stop buying the service or product from that company to let them know that you disagree with their service and/or policies (unless you like getting screwed over and you don't do anything about it, sounds like you're the type). WB provides the service of entertainment, and they made a business decision, it's their right. But we don't have to like it. HP fans have made this franchise successful by paying their hard earned money to watch the movies in the theater, and by buying the DVDs and all HP-related stuff FOR YEARS. When WB announced the release date in November 2008, HP fans expected this service from WB, just like with any other HP release: that the movie be released when they said it would. And then WB pulls this stunt. Upset fans have every right to complain and threaten not to put their money into WB or boycott WB, just like you would if this was any other company/airline/restauran t whose service or policy you don't like. NO NEED TO CALL THE FANS "ENTITLED". They know they don't own the movie, duh! They just want what they've been paying for all these years. That's capitalism and free market also. Gee, you just made my argument for me, Mattrixed, thanks!
