Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay
Alan Horn issues statement regarding HBP delay Alan Horn, President of Warner Brothers, has issued a statement in response to the large amount of disappointment from their decision to delay Half-Blood Prince until July 17th, 2009:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

I'm sorry to inform you that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been canceled due to an excessive amount of idiotic fans issuing death threats towards me and my loving family. We have decided to release a different film on the July 19th, 2009 weekend instead of Harry Potter. We hope you will be excited in looking forward to what we at Warner Brothers predict will be the biggest box office movie of next summer. Rob Schneider will be starring in The Stapler, rated PG-13. Have a great upcoming Labor Day Weekend everyone! Yours sincerely, Alan Horn, President of Warner Brothers.

if you guys are going to boycott, then you shouldn't be going to see the film at ALL. you can't have your cake and eat it too, you either have to give them your money to see the movie or boycott it and not see it at all. if everyone went to see it just the one time, don't you think they would still make more than enough money? If none of us go to see it then it will be more of a substantial loss.

Posted by tjd8591 Aug 20th 2008

I don't fully understand why people would want to boycott the movie and avoid something that they love. Yeah I'm extremely pissed off about it but I'm not going to miss out on a HP movie just because it's pushed back. Even if they pushed it back four years I'd still go see just because I love HP. I might be ready to rip the throats out of the executives at WB but I'll still see it. What exactly is everyone's plan of boycotting? Not seeing the movie at all and standing in front of theaters protesting the wait? Or is it buying tickets for a non-WB movie and sneaking into HP anyway? Although you may not think that the latter is bad, we may be hurting the actors, producers, musicians, and the director who put so much time into filming this movie. We need something else to get to WB because we are pissed at the company not the people who made the movie right?

Posted by bethinoz Aug 20th 2008

When executives of large companies started getting bonuses they started to think of what was best for them and not what was best for the company. I do not know if I blame them for that attitude but I do wish we could live in Harry Potters world where good wins and Harry tries to save them all, even giving Voldemont that once last chance to save himself. Horn is not entirely to blame but as the top guy he has to take most of the blame. Will he? No. Does he care about what is best for WB? I doubt it. Are there others helping him make the decisions? Of course. Is the final decision his? Yes. The board is not going to meet to decide on the release date of a movie.

Posted by Vicki209 Aug 20th 2008

Why "Mr Horn" thankyou for your further comment. We fans would never do anything to upset you. We love the studio! But may i offer you a silver lining, you can go into hiding and have some time off work.

Posted by Alan_Horn Aug 20th 2008

Here's a silver lining for you: kiss my fat rich Jewish executive @$$.

Posted by Vicki209 Aug 20th 2008

How eloquent! Did you have a team of under paid writers compsoe that for you?

Posted by hpfan4444 Aug 20th 2008

For some reson, all I'm reading is blah blah blah blah. I know there are words there, but they seem to mean nothing. Hmmm.... I wonder why?

I just want to know one thing, WTF IS WRONG WITH ALL THE PEOPLE DEFENDING THIS OLD MAN!?!? and saying lame excuses about don't boycutt the movie buuuhuuu, I can boycutt the freakin movie on the oppenning weekend if I want to, ARE YOU FREAKING MENTAL!! this guy lie to us and he knew about the realese change date and he kept ito himself until the LAST MINUTE, that's why I'm mad, and all of you saying that the only thing this is gonna do is destroy the production for DH, please don't be an idiots, this movies makes them richer that's why they keep doing them, so stop defending this lost cause and let me enjoy my anger towards this man for changing the date, and I -STILL - WILL- BUY- THE PIRATE-VERSION-OF-THE-MOV IE, I STILL SEE THE MOVIE, BUT I WONT TAKE MY WHOLE FAMILY TO SEE IT IN THEATRES, I'LL JUST BUY THE PIRATE VERSION AND WE ALL SEE IT TOGETHER, WITHOUT GIVING OUR MONEY TO THIS GREEDY FILM INDUSTRY.

Posted by Vicki209 Aug 20th 2008

They would and they do. HP is the biggest grossing franchise of all time, it makes them billions. They have a vested interest (money, again) in the amount these films make, therefore any decision that affects their revenue would involve the board. These films go into the record books with the WB name asscoiated with them. All good for WB posterity and profits. It all boils down to money again unfortunately. I agree that when they start receiving bonuses there priorities change for the worse. And yes its all about the almight buck. I wish the world was more like HP's , that's probably one of the thousands of reasons we all love the books so much. And that's why we have to make our voice heard. When JK's characters disagree with the hands they are dealt they fight aginst them. We should take our example from HP and Co

Posted by tjd8591 Aug 20th 2008

luvrup- Sorry if I offended you at all. I agree that no one should defend Alan Horn or WB at all for their decisions. I'm just wondering exactly how the boycott will be performed?

Posted by Maccii Aug 20th 2008

It's silly that the wait for DH is shorter. We EXPECTED we would have to wait 2 years for DH, and a year and a half for HBP (after OotP that is). That's why we're pissed of, not because of the simple waiting. We're used to wait, only not for another date than the one we've all been waiting for. He's so stupid.

Posted by Kid_A Aug 20th 2008

This is still not a good reason, I mean they are trying to say that "Look at the bright sight; you won't be waiting for Deathly Hallows too long" - god darn! We will be waiting a hell of a year too! Yeah, we got HP to where it stands now, you're just the guys who make it a motion picture for cinema and try to earn money from us. I hope you Alan Horn and David Heyman will be very dissapointed if you get quarter of the money that you plan to earn by now. If they were to release HBP in November 2008 and began working for DH, there wouldn't be any delays. They don't even think about the other brighter sight that if they could begin for DH earlier, like 4-5 months than they've scheduled, they would have released it 8-9 months after HBP considering it for July 2009. I still hate Alan Dale, David Heyman and WB!

Posted by Vicki209 Aug 20th 2008

i agree with you - luvrup. I'm not defending Horn, i'm just saying we should be mad at all of them as well as him. I think we should boycott and remind them who pays thier wages. Ruining opening weekend would make a statement, as that's what they measure the success of a film by.

Posted by Kid_A Aug 20th 2008

This also proves that nobody at WB cares about our emails and petitions. How can they be such impassive? And if Alan Dale keeps giving such kind of ridiculous speeches, next time I will punch this jackass by face! He's making me angrier day by day by making stupid speeches. He still explains how we are important for them, and their only f**king reason is that; THEY WANT MORE PEOPLE! So let's give them LESS PEOPLE at the release of HBP on July 2009!!!

Posted by beckyw Aug 20th 2008

First of all, I think that Warner Bros already is making enough money, seeing as how they are getting an extra movie out of the franchise already....and there are SEVERAL reasons that Batman did well this last summer-one of them being that one of the actors DIED...Now, as for me, I LOVE Harry Potter like no other, but I'm seriously thinking about just boycotting the opening weekend. Warner Bros. does not appreciate their fans. Just their money. Secondly, they use the excuse that the main base of fans will still be in school. ACTUALLY, if they are fans from the beginning of the books, they shouldn't still be in school...maybe college...and if they are talking about elementary kids, well, the movie is prob rated PG13...I'm just very upset. Maybe none of this sounds rational, but this is how I feel. Why not do something for the fans for once? I think another large reason they are doing this is so that it will still be fresh when the park opens...these guys aren't dumb. I just think they are.

Posted by Tenorspaz Aug 20th 2008

You know, the WB executives are reading these comments and thinking, "Good, now they've begun attacking each other and they will leave me alone. It won't be long until this whole thing is over...heheheh."

Posted by luvrup Aug 20th 2008

I agree with all of you, we can wait 11 months and a week, and I agree with - beckyw- I think it is really sad the film industry became interested only in money and they keep forgetting the movies about entretaining the fans and make them have a good time watching movies with their families, they seem to forget about that, is really sad how the only thing they can think about is money, I think the dark knight was such a money maker movie, first because of the dead of such an amazing actor as Heath Ledger and then for all the oscar buzz about his performance, and now they seem to be doing the same with HP, after the tragic dead of Robert Knox, WB is really mean, that is why I hate them.

Posted by Ksw2000 Aug 20th 2008

What really gets me is how he said "there would have been a two-year gap between

Posted by malfoysgirl14 Aug 20th 2008

stupid oh yeah they care about us no they want more money and he said its not such a long wait between 6 and 7 well that was 2 years now we have to wait 2 years between 5 and 6 great job WB NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by irishfanaticwhobelievessnapeisgood Aug 20th 2008

What a load of bull!! WB dont care bout the fans. just the money.

Posted by Ksw2000 Aug 20th 2008

Grr my whole rant didn't get through. What really gets me is how he said "there would have been a two-year gap between

Posted by Ksw2000 Aug 20th 2008

For some reason my comment won't go through. Im still mad though Wb Grrr

Posted by potterfreak0515 Aug 20th 2008

But now it's a two-year gap between OotP and HBP.

Posted by lupin_2356 Aug 20th 2008

Are the cheesecakians still together?

Posted by zackcompton Aug 20th 2008

If you want to boycott the movie, you can still watch it when it is released at Watch-Movies.net for free. It has great video quality and is completely legal. This way, you still get to watch the movie, and these slimebags don't get their money, which is the reason the changed te date in the first place. Post the name of this website on your myspace and all other related sites, and tell everyone that you know to not watch it theaters, but at home. BOYCOTT WB!!!!!!!

Posted by jhh7487 Aug 20th 2008

I am saddened by the delay, but I am glad there won't be long to wait after HBP, and I don't agree with boycotting the opening weekend (a die-hard fan like myself would never), but boycotting everything else is fine, but I go see the movies to support everyone involved and to help raise the amount of money made opening weekend because I want Harry Potter to be the highest grossing movie ever, and would also hate to see WB cancel the rest of the films because people wanted to act like a babies.

Posted by randomrose18 Aug 20th 2008

GO TO HELL MR. ALAN HORN. I HOPE ALL YOU WB PPL BURN IN HELL FOR THIS SH*T. YOU MONEY GRUBBING A-HOLES!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by hedwighummer Aug 20th 2008

Does he really think any of us are going to buy this crap that he's trying to sell? It doesn't make sense at all, no matter what way he phrases it. He sacrificed his loyalty to the fans ALL FOR MONEY. I don't see how there is any other way to say it. Stupid son of a banshee.

Posted by loonymudbloodgirl8 Aug 20th 2008

When I first read the news about the HBP film, I.... I was soooo pissed... but after listening to Mugglecast I've calm down a bit. They've made their point, and I agreed with a lot of them, but I still stand on that they thought about this for a weeks or maybe months or so. They knew what they we're doing. Personaly I think that WB has lost faith in HP films. I mean, ever one has read what they said, their afraid that because 1: the Harry Potter books are done. Which means ever one pretty much knows whats gonna happened. 2: I think, and this hurts to even think about this, but, I think, the movie sucks so bad and their afraid that it won't make as much money as they hope it'll to make. And having the movie practically around the corner was just scaring them. Yah, it could be true maybe that the fans have lost some interest films, I think thats highly unlikely..... maybe because of David Yates, or I could be right , that it does sucks. The other thing is, they shouldn't say that it will be better if its in during the summer time because thats when school is out, and they'll make a lot more money because the kids and the parents aren't doing anything, or something like that. See, they shouldn't worry about that at all because the thing about Harry Potter is that it's always gonna sell no matter what part of the year you put in. I think that they should of kept it in November, Harry Potter has been a holiday film and it always been in November. Accept the third and fourth one. It get ya after Halloween, during fall, right before Christmas season beginnings. And the HP films has always been some-what dark. In the movies it always had the last three season and the last three holidays in the year. So it makes perfect since to have it during the fall.

Posted by RosalieCullen Aug 20th 2008

So, what? They're making us wait two years between Order of the Pheonix and HBP instead of HBP and Deathly Hallows? Pretty lousy swap.

Posted by HP_LUVER Aug 20th 2008

what the hell allen ur an ass for puting back HPATHBP like realy ur not going to make anymore money if anything only the true harry potter fans will see it now, cause evryone though the last one wasn't very good so u can KISS MY ASS!!

Posted by kaj9201 Aug 20th 2008

bullsh*t. they dont care about the fans. And their "silver lining" idea sucks. It is still the same amount of time we have to wait, just in a different place. So, all in all....it's a dumb a** excuse.

Posted by HP_LUVER Aug 20th 2008

what the hell is wrong with this allen guy. why do they even need to have a two year break? he should have not said anything . He just pissed me off more and made himself look like more of an idiot fudge YOU ALLEN HORN

Posted by Judicar Aug 20th 2008

Lol like anyone believes his lies. He (and the rest of WB) just want to milk the film even further. As they've said it themselves, it's only for the money. I'm just glad we're almost finished with these films so greedy fiends like him can crawl back under their desks and stay away from good things like the HP series.

Posted by tubaturtle Aug 20th 2008

I just thought of something. Now if one of WB's reasons why they're pushing it off till next summer is because some of the fans will still be in school, didn't they think of this: the movie would have come out on a Friday. Last time I checked, most schools don't have school on Friday nights, Saturdays, or Sundays. Now people in public schools may have jobs, but I know that they don't work for the ENTIRE day. So their reasoning in THAT respect is bull.

MWHAHAHA ALAN HORNS EMAIL alan.horne.site@gmail.com

Posted by eblovesdb Aug 20th 2008

Reading the comments that say we're acting like spoilt children is getting me more and more worked up! The fact is they must have had plans to change the date at the same time as releasing the trailer. People were making plans for parties etc with the movie being only 3 months away and then they're suddenly told "Sorry, you've got to wait another year." So, yeah we'll get p*ssed off if we want to! This year to be honest has been pretty crap for me and like many others this movie would have been one of the few highlights and now it's disappeared for no DECENT reason. As for 'The silver lining,' there isn't one. We all expected to wait longer for DH - we now want HBP on the date we were promised FULL STOP

Posted by ginmo Aug 20th 2008

loonymudbloodgirl8, sugarzero, and tjd8591. I'll start with the last two- This is how people will boycott: They buy a ticket for another movie playing around the same time as HBP, but then sneak into the HBP theatre. That way, WB doesn't get the money. And to all of you people who say "don't boycott because you'll hurt DH!" that's complete BS!! The money they made off of DK is enough, plus all the other movies they're releasing. Another way people are boycotting is they'll only see the movie ONCE instead of multiple times like they would have in November or December. An no, that won't get the money they want because thousands of people only seeing it once instead of multiple times = millions of dollars.

Posted by horcrux_gp Aug 20th 2008

AAARRRRRRRGGGGHHH YEAAAA!!! LETS MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF THIS! AFTER ALL THERE ISN'T ANYTHING IN THE WORLD THAT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS!! hahahaha... c'mon people... its a MOVIE, yes it sucks, yes we have to wait longer, but don't you guys have a life? other things to hope for? I mean, this is sooooo stupid... yes WB is greedy, yes their "silver linning" is moronic, but so what... NessaGiyen I SUPPORT YOU!!! PEOPLE MAKE TO MUCH NOISE OUT OF THIS!!!

Posted by ginmo Aug 20th 2008

*cut off* million of dollars they would be losing. I've said that soooo many times lol. Before you people comment, please read the previous comments, or at least the first few pages before you argue with reasons we've already debated and shot down. Now, onto loonymudbloodgirl8, you're right. They wouldn't be making more money in the summer versus the the holiday seasons. That's why everyone is frustrated and P.Oed. But I disagree with you on the mugglenet thing. I was extremely ticked off with them. They were rude and stuck-up and I can't believe they were making fun of the fans who make their site successful. That's almost as bad a move as WB. And the only reason why they weren't so ticked is because they have to keep good relations with WB . They don't care about the fans either. Ha...

Posted by Alan_Horn Aug 20th 2008

With fans behaving the way you guys are, why should we care about you? Parents don't normally reward their children for throwing fits. And most of you here are throwing a big hissy fit. Assuming you're all above the age of 8....GROW UP.

Posted by ginmo Aug 20th 2008

horcrux_gp- you people honestly do not get the point behind this if you stil lthing we're compaining because it's "just a movie" lol. You don't understand the principle behind it. I guess you guys are the ones who can't see outside of the box and have to have everything written out perfectly for you. But whatever. If you guys want to give a corrupt business what they want, so be it. But when we DO have an affect on their total box office sales, I'm going to rub it in all of your faces and I will be incredibly angry if some of you idiots try to take credit and then call yourselves true HP fans. I'm not saying don't see the movie. Becuase that's torture for an HP fan. I'm just saying a) don't see it multiple times b) If you do see it multiple times, buy a ticket for another movie and sneak in c) stay clear of WB merchandise you don't need.

Posted by eblovesdb Aug 20th 2008

If expressing my honest opinion makes me childish, moronic etc so be it. At least I've done it without being rude to anybody else on this board.

Posted by ginmo Aug 20th 2008

eblovesdb - THANK YOU! I'm American. I'm going to complain, protest, etc. when I don't want to give a dirty business what they want or else they'll just do it over and over again? What do you expect? Again, it's not about the movie, it's about their reason that we (the average people) can even find logic to show them how stupid the "captilistic busniess move" is. Actuall read the comments before you post you arguments, k thanks. I can tell that more than half of you haven't even read the reasons because we keep having to repeat ourselves with the comebacks when you give us your stupid ***, insulting remarks.

Posted by Alan_Horn Aug 20th 2008

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH UR ALL fudge LOSERS. WAITING FOR A fudge MOVIE ALL OF YOUR LIFE AND COMPLAINING ABOUT IT WONT DO shhh. SO ITS BEST U GET ON WITH YOUR fudge LIVES AND STOP YAPPING ABOUT A fudge MOVIE HAHAAHHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHA HAHHAHAHAHAAHA

Posted by ginmo Aug 20th 2008

Alan_Horn- yes I DO have a "fudge" life which is why I'm even more upset because HBP was going to be that thing to make my year worthwhile, but isntead, it's in the hands of people who are starting to not know how to run their frickin company. They only reason why they're successful is because we, the fans, made them that way. And now they're angering WAY too many fans. That's the other end of the capitalistic view.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Posted by tjd8591 Aug 20th 2008

beckyw - I started reading HP in 1st grade a year after it came out and I'm in high school. Movies definitely make more money when we're out of school because we have more time. But we'd be off for Winter Holiday anyway so that factor wouldn't matter.
