Ah yes, it's been a while since we've seen wise old Albus Dumbledore wearing some half-moon spectacles in the films. What a treat it is to see a pretty cool behind the scenes photo of Michael Gambon and the crew within the Great Hall, where it looks like Dumbledore is about to make a speech. It also looks like there's a green cover on his hands for the visual effects. The scans come from the German magazine Cinema, and you can see the scans here and here. The rest of the article has images we've seen before. Thanks to Harry Potter Experts for the tip!

Yes, it sure has been a while. Im still wishing that Michael Gambon werent Dumbledore, and that we had Richard Harris back, but I know that wont happen, so Ill have to be satisfied with Michael. But that is an interesting picture, and I like that you can actually see the cameras and the directors, instead of having it just be an edited photo, straight from the movie. Thanks Cinema!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:23:07

awsomeee !

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:25:49

dumbledore with no glasses just isnt dumbledore at all....its like harry with no glasses, its just odd....and i agree with the first comment...i think micheal gambon is a TERRIBLE dumbledore...i know it was hard to take over from richard harris, but still, he acts nothing like dumbledore ever does....hes to harsh, and angry...dumbledore has a calm nature and a quiet strength about him, which gambon fails to portray.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:26:20

Oooo! Glasses? Thats actually pretty awesome. Just think, he had to go through a few movies without glasses! He mustve been blind! :P just kidding. I actually never really noticed he wasnt ever wearing glasses!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:26:39

wow!! love the photos!!! i think david yates looks slimmer :P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:29:29

on the clips and sneak peeks WB put out on HBP, dumbledores fingers were covers in green screen material to perform CGI effects. when they showed dumbledore and potter filming at slughorns house it was only two fingers, then later when harry was in dumbledores office it was all around his hand- hence they do have dumbledores blacken fingers and it gets worse as the film progresss just like the book

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:30:20

Dumbly-dorr!!! yeah,i never noticed either.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:32:47

wow green screen on Dumbledores hand? i figured itd just be makeup and i totally agree with phoenix_flames_ 4. Richard Harris was always much more calm and Dumbledore-ish but since hes gone well have to put up with Gambon.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:36:32

Aw, cool. And didnt you guys just mention the lack of pics with him in glasses in Mugglecast the other day? :-)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:41:06

See? Now was that so hard, Gambon? (I shouldnt blame him -- maybe its the producers/directors choice).

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:46:36

This is a good photoof Prof. Dumbledore, because if he has not glases he can not be the professor we like and love. Can we have more photos and other articles even if they are in other language. thanks.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:50:42

i like michal gambon, i think hes a much better dumbledore than richard

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:52:37

wow he looks a BIT more dumbledoreish

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:57:12

richard harris was better, as my friend would say more cuddly" and i agree. he was gentler and michael gambon just seems so freaking harsh all the time. tell me if u agree........

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 18:58:57

i do not agree i really like michal. i think he gets more into it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:02:45

Richard Harris IS Dumbledore. Thats why no one can match him. Harry Potter is real, Dumbledore lived once but died obviously. Thats why Michael Gambon had to take over

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:26:47

Im not a fan of Michael Gambon (I actually agree with sailorprincess6, Gambon is a bit too harsh (if thats even the right word) in delivering his lines, imo)--but I must say, he does look more like Dumbledore than ever before.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:33:07

i still like mike

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:34:20

I dont see how Gambon appeals to ANYONE. Hes kind of the anti-Dumbledore, IMO. Hes not serene, or kind at all :/ Hes grumpy.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:47:36

Yay! He finally looks like Dumbledore! :-D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:50:11

randomchat i like him i think he really gets into charter and hes not bad if you stop living in the past

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:55:13

he looks fatter, in my opinion.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 19:56:23

haha

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:04:51

Im a little disturbed by people bashing Michael Gambon for how his character looks/dresses... even for what he says and how. The guys not responsible for those things... the screenwriter, director, producers are. You can criticize him for HOW he delivers his lines, but thats about it. Give the guy a break! Yeah, Richard Harris was our first exposure to Dumbledore, and well always love him for that, but I really dont think Harris could have delivered the strength and power that develops in Dumbledore as the stories progressed. Gambon has that edge, that simmering failure, and that secret desire for more power that Harris just didnt have. I liked Harris... but I love Gambon in the role he now possesses.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:18:38

Im happy they finally gave him glasses...while I really dont like Gambon as Dumbledore AT ALL, it seems to be looking up. But, well see. Very nice pictures. :]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:19:42

I lo9e gambon he is cool, blame yates for his acting, no direction, he was great in azkaban, amazing, but still, alfonso is a miricle worker...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:20:05

photobrad said it PERFECTLY !

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:20:34

I know JKR always wrote that DD wore his half-moon specs perched on his nose all of the time but dont people realise what half-moon specs are actually for? You wear half moon specs perched on your nose when youre reading. They serve no purpose other than for reading. If you notice whenever movie DD is reading he wears them. Makes perfect sense.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:20:55

Dumbledore finally found his glasses? I think hes been missing them for at least a year now. Poor guy, getting senile in his old age. ;-P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:24:23

This has been an epicly big news day. So much is going on all of a sudden... Enough for a new MuggleCast, even. *hinthint*

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 20:43:48

Gambon is cool. The crew suck. And Im really pissed how they remove Dumbledores spectacles all the time, for now reason. Look at how they rendered Slughorn and see how they dont give a s*i* about the book descriptions. Slughorn is not fat, not bald, and has no walrus mustache. So its anyone but Slughorn! He has not one of his trademark feature. Hes just botched and Im p*ss*d.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:00:06

I agree with sailorprincess6 Richard Harris was a better Dumbledore and why is Michael Gambons beard tied all the time?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:01:18

Finally, he looks something like Dumbledore!! I hope he becomes a gentler Dumbledore in this movie. Wow, the glasses almost make up for the funny beard jewelry. *frowns* okay, not quite.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:03:53

the jewerly ist that badd and it isnt his fault he doesnt get to choose what he wears

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:14:15

Michael Gambon in half-moon spectacles? Never thought Id see the day!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:24:40

Maybe this will make Gambon look more Dumbledore-ish. xD Richard Harris really /was/ Dumbledore, though. He always had that odd mysterious sense that I pictured Dumbledore would have, and also that fun quality. Gambon isnt too bad however, and I think he made the transition from Harriss version of Dumbledore to his version smoothly. Its just Gambon seems a little too rough to be Dumbledore, but it does add a different spin on the personality that isnt so bad. Either way...Dumbledore rocks. Yay for the return of the glasses!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 21:37:44

He he he he!~~~~ : )

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 22:45:55

Not the dumbledore I had in mind, but ok!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 23:16:44

: )

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 23:20:54

Doesnt he always have glasses????

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-20 23:41:41

nooooo unfortunally nott

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 00:06:34

haha... I submitted this news...even the glasses bit. I feel happy...anyway, Ive always loved Gambon. I mean...his little tantrum in Goblet after Harrys name came out was annoying, but I still love the rougher D-dore... I mean, he is different than the D-dore of the books, but how he plays it works well, and Im glad they are making him more truue to the books for HBP (glasses, straighter hair, calmer voice, etc.) Im EXCITED for the movie... (of course my excitement will wane a bit after a few months of waiting, but Ill probably be even more excited when this movie finally does come out....dang WB....haha)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 00:11:13

He looks more like Dumbledore than ever. Sweet.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 01:03:36

ZOMG!! YOU GUYS DIDNT YOU NOTICE THAT ON THE OFFICIAL HARRY POTTER SIT THE TEASER TRAILER NOW SAYS JULY :(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 01:51:21

wow, that must have been so hard. how did they manage to get glasses, nice to see they are trying so hard for this one. I hope the sarcasm wont drip on anyone

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 05:01:32

Why does every crew have their arm crossed? imagine acting to a crowd like that... are they all hostile and dislike how the movies going?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 05:04:41

Richard Harris was Dumbledore in so far as Evanna Lynch IS Luna, Michael Gambon is still doing a good job but I think he possesses none of Dumbledores gentle qualities, his humility, his calming soothing aura and his sheer awesome presence of character! Plus he is way too rough, what with his habit of grabbing Harry and shouting a bit too much! No offence to Michael Gambon, this is merely my opinion. :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 05:40:59

Cool! Have we ever had Dumbledore with glasses as Michael Gambon?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 06:00:04

i know ive already commented, but i would just like to say that yes, gambon is a product of the directors choices, and yes, many people support him, but *SPOILER HERE!!....when dumbledore dies in the book, the emotional impact was huge, i sobbed my eyes out.im worrried as I dont think that any of this emotional impact will be portrayed in the film, as i find it hard to get actually emotionally involved in gambons portrayal of dumbledore. (yes i am aware that in the new film, my feelings toward dumbledore might change, but i am basing this on what i have actually seen so far)....does anyone else feel the same way???

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 06:20:12

i miss richard harris!!!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 07:06:06

instead of the photos, they could have given us a nice trailer

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 07:52:33

How come no one complains about Arthur and Percy Weasley not wearing glasses? They are the only two Weasleys who wear glasses.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 08:24:04

Wow... GLASSES! Only THREE HUNDRED and TWENTY NINE DAYS to go! I can barely contain myself. Thanks Warner Blunderers!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 09:16:33

i agree with luna22 a nice trailior would of been well nice.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 09:37:35

pottertwilight0627, yes he lost them in the fifth

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 09:52:55

If they spend 8 months doing CGI glasses for Dumbledore, I will forgive them for the delay. Anyway, what is it with this inconsistency with his glasses? I understand that Radcliffe cant wear contact lenses, but come an, there is no excuse for Dumbledore not having glasses!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 09:54:00

i dont think that they should bring the glasses back. i mean he hasnt had glasses since 2nd year. Well it doesnt really matter to me. they neee to bring out better pics with the trio and the rest of the Hogwarts students.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 11:19:25

now, if only they would get rid of his stupid beard ponytail, he would at least look like Dumbledore!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 11:36:40

The old Dumbledore was waaay better but oh well:(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 11:46:13

I agree with sailorprincess6 Hes just so harsh. and whys his beard always tied up ,it makes him look like a hobo.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 12:20:54

YAY! Dumbledore has taken out his contacts, lightened his hair and let it grow. Thats more like the Dumbledore we know and love. Lets just hope he changes his harshness and manner in which he portrays him. I really do feel he makes an exellent Dumbledore in combat with Voldemort although he could act more gentle and brighter towards Harry. Honestly in Goblet of fire it looks as though he is about to strangle harry when he asks him if he put his name in the goblet which is so out of charecter and unlike him.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 12:31:04

Now all he has to do is remove that ridiculous hair tie from his beard!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 13:16:54

yeah the beard ponytail is a bit weird... i did like richard harris better but that is my opinion. warner blunderers lol i like it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-21 13:36:52

Niceness! The beard looks longer too. I think this is going to get KICK MAJOR the fleshy part of your lower back.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-23 04:07:06

"Have we ever had Dumbledore with glasses as Michael Gambon?" Yes, throughout the entire 3rd movie, and in all but 1 scene in Goblet of Fire.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-23 18:48:35

es ist deutsch lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-24 16:39:44

Yea Im not a big fan of Michael Gambon, but I do have to say that he looks good in this picture.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-25 17:48:11

Im used to seeing the other 1 who played in 1 and 2 with the glasses but not this 1! >.< lol But its awsome to bring back the glasses

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-08-26 11:18:21

How can any of you say he does a good job as Dumbledore? He does a good job as an actor in general but he most definitely is not Dumbledore. First off, theres that ridiculous accent of his which is sometimes just plain annoying. Secondly, hes probably an inch or so taller than Hermione (DD is supposed to be tall unless im much mistaken). And most importantly his characterisation is just completely off, and im not just talking about the hissy fit he threw in GoF. Take the battle against Voldemort in OoTP for instance. From what we read, Dumbledore was incredibly calm throughout that battle, holding his wand loosely by his side as he strolled forward, talking calmly to his former student. Yet in Gambons version he spent alot of time flailing his arms about and quite frankly looking terrified. The CGI was impressive i must admit, but that battle, like most things in WBs versions of the books was not portrayed correctly. When Richard Harris was DD i must say i simply couldnt imagine anyone else as DD. With Gambon however, i am sure there is another old man out there somewhere who could play the role better. That said, i do rate him as an actor...just not as Dumbledore. Moan over
