It couldn't have gone any other way- Congrats to JKR!
omg i was just talking about that! good for her...
Yes! Hurray for Jo! Go Jo... Go Jo... Go Jo...
That guy was a real stupid. And to think JKR used to appreciate him because of his dedication to the series but he really messed up things with his book... What a jerk... JKR has the right to fight for her work, and what Vander Ark tried to do was like a bank robbery..
yes that's grate congrats jo
YAY! Congrats Jo! xD
Congratulations Jo!!!!!!!!!! I'm delighted for you but they couldn't have come to any other decision anyway!!! :D:D:D
Congrats, Jo. We were all rooting for you!
it took long enough, but it was always going to happen
Yay Jo!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Good. I personally couldn't see the verdict going in the other direction. Can't wait for Jo's official version of what they were trying to do to come out (can't remember what it's called).
JKR used to be my hero, and Steve was her biggest fan - I know, I've met the man, and never a more sincere, true lover of HP analysis would you meet. Unfortunately, the years have turned JKR into a privledged, lawsuit-happy, lawyer-armoured businesswoman. I miss the days when she was a writer, NOT a corporation.
HELL YES! And what kind of fan makes money by just restating HP facts into a book? Why not purchase something from JKR herself. It doesn't matter. They're her characters, she can do whatever the hell she wants with them.
CONGRATS JO!! JUSTICE AND GOOD PREVAIL, JUST LIKE YOUR BOOKS!
And before you call her "lawyer-amoured", remember that WB and JKR wanted to settle this quietly. If you refuse, a lawsuit is what you get.
YAY! Justice always prevails! (:
kool. good job JK! where's book 8? lol
Yay! Finally!
Seriously who cares about this trial any more. We've known for ages how it would end. Unfortunately, RDR Books has behaved like jerks through all of this and really given no reasons for their claims whatsoever.
Go Jo! Congrats on the win!!!!! JKR FOREVER!!!!!
to frannylovesharry, Has it occurred to you that maybe Steve VDA is the one who has changed? He actually had it put into his contract with RDR books that THEY would have to field any copyright lawsuits! He KNEW what he was doing was wrong! Our friends over at Leaky bent over backwards trying to stay neutral about this whole thing and yet he glommed on to some unsuspecting, ignorant, so-called journalists to make snarky remarks about Leaky (and Mugglenet too for that matter) 'kissing up' to J.K.R. Excuse me, but, if you're a fan of someone, do you make comments like that just to get your name in the press? I think not!
YAY JO!!! Congrats! I'm so happy that idiot wasn't awarded anything. JKR forever!
Hooray for God!
I will almost always side with the author in these kinds of disputes, even authors I don't like. And I love JKR, so of course I'm happy about this. :D ... just because ideas aren't tangible doesn't mean they can't be stolen. Copyright ftw!
LOL! WB & Rowling were awarded $6,750 US for their trouble. That's NOTHING for all they had to go through in this one. (IMAGINE their legal fees!!!)
good for you jo one of the best authors around . would of like WB to have made a loss tho
GO JKR GO WB.
never thought i'd be saying this but...GO WB!
BAM! And I agree completely with MKM :)
frannylovesharry, the fact is, the substance of the website is not original work, and there are copyright laws. I doubt Steve was trying to take credit for actually coming up with the work, and no doubt he was a big fan, but that doesn't mean it was right to publish unoriginal work. As for J.K. Rowling, she may very easily have been spurred by the feelings of a writer, not a "corporation". We know Harry Potter is practically a baby to her, and I can see where she would get extremely upset over something like this without money being a motive. For my part, I'm glad the judge settled on J.K. Rowling's side. The Lexicon is useful, but it can't be published by Steve.
YES! It's about time.
GOOD. FINALLY.
I'm happy for Jo and I think the decision was a good one... but I still feel ridiculously sorry for Steve Van der Ark.
Congrats Jo! Yes it IS about time, isn't it? =]
