Deathly Hallows paperback to be released July 7th
Deathly Hallows paperback to be released July 7th Scholastic has just announced that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in paperback on July 7th, 2009 for $14.99.

The US book publisher also noted that over 14 million copies of Deathly Hallows have already been sold in the United States. From the press release:

“We have another big year planned for Harry,” said Ellie Berger, President of Trade, Scholastic. “As we look toward the tenth anniversary of the U.S. publication of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel, we are thrilled to continue to bring Harry Potter to fans of all ages in new and exciting ways.”

I prefer hard cover, but it's still cool that stuff is coming out!! :-)

Posted by ennaxor Sep 22nd 2008

Seriously? We have to wait another YEAR to get the paperback, when normally we get it just one year after the initial release? I prefer reading my paperback versions, to keep my hardcover ones nice, so this really sucks.

Posted by raverclaw Sep 22nd 2008

It's on July 7 but it's the wrong year!

Posted by SofieMalfoy Sep 22nd 2008

haha. I think it's hilarious how EVERYONE is so desperate to milk Harry Potter as much as they can for money.

Posted by SleekChiqa Sep 22nd 2008

Such a tease they are! Another year for the film, now the paperback? Is this just the US or worldwide?

Posted by talley Sep 22nd 2008

Well since Dan got a mention for his interview. I'd like to say for those who like Rupert there are new photos of him during the filiming of his new movie, Wild Target. Go to any of the Rupert sites or at SS.

Posted by alan_74 Sep 22nd 2008

wow, 2 years after the original release??

Posted by G_wizzle Sep 22nd 2008

who wants paperback? they get bended and ripped like crazy

Posted by meitnik Sep 22nd 2008

I waited a long time to get the paperback set, now I suspect I will have to wait much longer. I feel used by the publishers. Greed is now taking over. Jo, please tell them to stop it! I wonder if soon there will be a growing backlash among the fans.

Posted by RandallWetzig Sep 22nd 2008

What a bunch of poops. Since starting the series in Paperback, I wanted to finish it in that, but now I can't. I'm upset. But not that upset.

Posted by member_of_SPEW Sep 22nd 2008

$15 for a paperback???

Posted by shaggy1999 Sep 22nd 2008

Why are they telling us this, so early in advance? It just doesn't make sense.

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 22nd 2008

lol, "we are thrilled to continue to bring Harry Potter to fans of all ages in new and exciting ways" because paperback is so new and exciting.

Posted by Beyond_The_Veil Sep 22nd 2008

A fifteen dollar paperback book? I'm obsessive with keeping my books perfect anyway, but that's just crazy. You might as well get the hardback. It'll last longer. o.O

Posted by novuscrepusculum Sep 22nd 2008

They seriously milk this series for everything it's worth! xD Can anyone say Chamber Of Secrets 10 Year Anniversary Edition? Then we'll have Beedle The Bard paperback, and 15 year Anniversary of everything! :P I know I'm exaggerating A LOT, but Shcolastic really do use HP to make quick bucks.

Posted by MsSnuffles Sep 22nd 2008

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? another year?! they are milking this way to much. first the movie now this?

Posted by InvisibleAparecium Sep 22nd 2008

Geez people, it's just a paperback release. Stop overreacting. I've seen more expensive paperbacks on books not as good as DH.

Posted by AliciaJonae05 Sep 22nd 2008

Ugh, I don't care about paperback anymore. I used to get it becuase it was cheaper, but when I bought my very first hardcover (Order of the Pheonix) before I went to Puerto Rico, I never went back! Until then, I kept an eye out for the Harry Potter books that I DIDN'T have in hardcover & got those in hardcover instead & am going to get rid of the paperback ones, instead of having the Harry Potter series in part paperback & part hardcover. Besides, the paperback books are much easier to tear than the hardcover ones. So in my eyes, I'd rather get the hardcover books anyday, b/c you're just waisting you're money if you buy a paperback & then it gets ruined & then end up buying another! So a little tip: Buy Paperback if you can or already haven't :)

Posted by its_shawn Sep 22nd 2008

why is it taking so long for this paperback to come out? another entire year, seriously?

Posted by chommy Sep 22nd 2008

July 7? They release DH July 7 NOW? It would be so cool for it to be released on July 7 in 2007. 07/07/07 and 07 (for HPatDH)! And paperback isn't exciting and new, Ms. Stupid.

Posted by adriennecray Sep 22nd 2008

"in new and exciting ways." - HAhaha cuz a paperback is just soo exciting. Why don't they just release 15 min. clips of the movies over the course of 50 years. "let's see how long we can stretch this out, guys!"

Posted by princess_lisa Sep 22nd 2008

Uhm... I'm pretty sure we've had the paperback version available in australia before now... I just checked on a bookstores website (Dymocks, for those in Aus) and it's listed as available in paperback, and says it will usually ship in 24 hours. Go figure.

Posted by Ecstatic Sep 22nd 2008

Haha, Australia got the paperback more then 2 months ago!

Posted by princess_lisa Sep 22nd 2008

There you go - it wasn't just my imagination! We've had it for more than 2 months! Finally, we get something before everyone else! ha!

Posted by loony4luna Sep 22nd 2008

Whoa! July 7th?! I was expecting a bit...sooner......

Posted by gryffinpuff817 Sep 22nd 2008

can someone tell me wtf is up with all this hp stuff getting released in july 09? i mean, first the movie gets moved, then the video game (which yes i understand why but still..) and now the paperback? i mean are they that desperate to have another "summer to remember" or is this all rotating around the opening of the theme park which last i checked is late 09 early '10? hey, how about pushing something forward for once and open the park in july 09...

Posted by hptwilighter Sep 22nd 2008

I pretty much agree with everyone that has posted (most notably adriennecray gryffinpuff817 and novuscrepusculum): (1) A paperback copy isn't even that cool (2) But, still why are they making us wait for everything?!? I mean what did we do to infuriate Harry Potter companies (Scholastic, WB, EA...), they seem to be trying their best to put everything off.... not to jinx anything, but the theme park or Beedle the Bard will probably be next. I mean personally I think this is a very depressing time in the fandom (Movie delayed, Mugglecasts no longer weekly, less news, no more books...) why do they have to make it worse?

Posted by DANSGIRL4ever Sep 22nd 2008

OMG THAT'S MY 18TH BIRTHDAY!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME !! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME !!

Posted by Bellatrix_25225 Sep 22nd 2008

Seriously? *sigh* I'm quite disappointed in Scholastic right now, did they really have to? Ugh... greedy companies.

Posted by loony4luna Sep 22nd 2008

Haha, Hptwilighter. It's just a sad year for us Harry Potter fans. ;___; I actually like owning paperback copies (Harry Potter ones, especially). They make my load a lot lighter when I'm carrying the books from place to place and they are more compact. Therefore, I think a paperback copy IS cool. :)

Posted by HPFANTimothy Sep 23rd 2008

princess_lisa, Ecstatic: SO TRUE! I'm in Melbourne (AUS) and I've noticed that our Bloomsbury DH paperbacks have been on shelves for like 2-3 months :P Then again, this is Scholastic so it's probably different. Also, I was at the Koh Samui airport in Thailand in 06' and saw the HBP paperbacks on shelves at least 3 months before they hit the US. It just goes to show, doesn't it?

Posted by Kamion Sep 23rd 2008

Is this not awefully late? the Bloomsbury UK paperback edition is already on the discount and dumpmarket.

Posted by Roxy2005 Sep 23rd 2008

Man people need to get a hold of them selves, it's not about money or anything like that. It's a paper back, so some of us like to read the paper backs so our good hard back copies don't get banged up. Especially since most of us re-read the books over and over. I do wonder on the delay but not my business like every one else I wait and then when it comes available I go get it. Take a Chill Pill and get over your selves.

Posted by bookworm08 Sep 23rd 2008

I get both the hardcover, and paperback versions, because when i go on vacation somewhere i would rather bring one of my paperback books, and leave my hardcover books at home. I always bought the first edition hardcover when it came out,and then a year later i would buy the paperback version(which would be my travel version). I guess they didn't release the final book in paperback this summer/year,because of the ten year annivesary of "The Sorcerer's Stone",but that's fine with me I can't wait to have DH in paperback also.

Posted by Lupi Sep 23rd 2008

How ridiculous! I bought a copy of the paperback on discount in a local supermarket over a month ago. Seems the UK do get some things first!!

Posted by HPFANTimothy Sep 24th 2008

Lupi: Well, naturally :) Because you see, Harry Potter IS British. So, it is only natural for the UK to get things 'Harry Potter' before the US.

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Sep 24th 2008

Hahahahaha. It's kinda funny how they think paper back is "new and exciting."

Posted by kdoggg Sep 24th 2008

I'm not waiting until July. I just purchased the PB via a UK website. Cost was $22 shipped to the US. Yes, it is higher than I would normally pay, but not having to wait another 8 months is worth it to me.

Posted by alexxx Sep 24th 2008

heey thats my birthday =] coolio

Posted by Monkey0 Sep 24th 2008

You guys really do exaggerate way too much. Hey guess what? The other six books are in paperback. Why are you complaining about the last one being paperback?

Posted by SriLankanSnape Sep 25th 2008

The paperback edition was released here in the UK AGES ago. I got two copies for the grand price of
