Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes
Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes Cinemark, America's third biggest theater chain, has announced that it plans to use "Real D" technology in 150 theaters by the end of 2007, thus attracting more audiences. Real D enables a single digital projector to beam images that seem to move toward or away from viewers wearing special glasses. While we already know that Order of the Phoenix will be played in IMAX theaters, the company has apparently discussed with OOTP producers the idea of including some 3-D scenes in the movie for some non-IMAX theaters.

Regarding the increased interest in 3-D, Research Associates analyst Marla Backer says: "Nobody has forgotten last year's box office slump." If sales fell because consumers preferred to watch DVDs in their living rooms, then "theaters need a more compelling reason for people to get out of their homes."

Hmmm, so SOME scenes are 3D and others aren't? Not sure bout that. 1st? woo x

Posted by ah14ofia Jul 18th 2006

hey sweet 2nd post! that would be really cool to have some 3D... hmmm... lol

Posted by drstevo Jul 18th 2006

I would prefer to watch in the thatre 3-D or not

Posted by lillink1222 Jul 18th 2006

You got it wrong, Ciaran. You do have to use glasses. It says in the news article, "Real D's 3-D format, used in Monster House and last year's Chicken Little, enables a single digital projector to beam images that seem to move toward or away from viewers wearing special glasses."

Posted by michael_xxx10 Jul 18th 2006

cool, hope we could see it

Posted by broadwayybabe Jul 18th 2006

ahh! It would be so awesome in 3D! I didnt get to see GoF in imax, but I'm DEFINETLY seeing OotP

Posted by Rach Jul 18th 2006

Wow that would be really cool! I would go see it.

Posted by gryffingirl99 Jul 18th 2006

OMG! THATS AWSOME!

Posted by Ciaran Jul 18th 2006

lillink1222: Erm... no, I didn't. "Real D means that viewers will be able to watch a 3-D film *without* having to wear special glasses, as is currently required."

Posted by lillink1222 Jul 18th 2006

No, I'm talking about the article you linked to, not the one you typed up. In the article you linked to, it said that Real D technology needs glasses.

Posted by broadwayybabe Jul 18th 2006

Oh well. with or without glasses... I wish it would play in an Omni theatre! It's a theatre where the screen a half dome and makes eveything seem 3D! It's absolutely amazing! but I've only seen one movie in it..... Actually, I'm not sure how theatres like this t here even ARE...

Posted by DarkMark Jul 18th 2006

Okay...I really hope this doesn't go through. 3-D Harry? That's just blowing everything up way too big. Let's remember what it's about: the BOOKS and the STORY. It'll only make the movie seem even more childish to people who haven't read the books if you add in 3D.

Posted by R_A_B Jul 18th 2006

cool!!!!!! i never sow a movie in 3 D top 10???

Posted by Ciaran Jul 18th 2006

You're right. Sorry... how the hell did I miss that?! lol

Posted by Rice12345 Jul 18th 2006

this high up :) WOOT yay 4 3D -_-'

Posted by singer2b182 Jul 18th 2006

agreeing with darkmark... 3D makes it cheap. think of spy kids... shark boy and lava girl?!? it'll be obvious when 3D scenes appear, and it'll look dumb.. oooo those were special effects, but it wasn't hard to tell, so... not so cool.

Posted by crazyfangirl156 Jul 18th 2006

so cool! ppl! go to the movies! ppl, make money that way! work so that u can go to the movies, and other ppl will get paid from it! yay cycles!!!!!!

Posted by lillink1222 Jul 18th 2006

I agree with 3D making things look cheep. But think about it. They're not gonna have this technology in every single theatre, so you don't have to go watch the 3D version.

Posted by Rocker_Chick Jul 18th 2006

sounds interesting. Though I highly doubt they'll bring 3D to my small town

Posted by through_the_veil Jul 18th 2006

i agree that 3D makes it cheap im going to see it in Imax

Posted by Leoseeker09 Jul 18th 2006

I dont want it to go threw. It wont fit Order of the Phoenix cause its not a action packed thriller type of movie. Its more of a mystery. And it would look cheap.Just like Spy Kids 3D or Shark Boy and Lava Girl..but i liked Spy Kids.

Posted by princess_horcrux Jul 18th 2006

i think it's okay as it is. People will go to see harry potter anyway, with or without 3D scenes. I've never even actually been to see a film in 3D, lol. Oh well :-)

Posted by 1234567 Jul 18th 2006

3D SUCKS

Posted by lucylu Jul 18th 2006

woooooooooooohoooooooooo that would beawesome maybe when the dvd comes out they will have it both ways 3-D and 2-D so u have a choice on ur dvd to what u wanna see. top 20

Posted by lillink1222 Jul 18th 2006

You couldn't get the 3D DVD. The projector is what makes it look 3D, because of the beam of light. It wouldn't work on a TV.

Posted by Tess_Potter Jul 18th 2006

I don't really like 3-D because I have to put the glasses over my glasses and it gives me a headache! However I know some people do. They should just make a couple screens for 2-D and a couple for 3-D. The last movie was showing on five screens at my theater so *shrug*. That would be like a three disc DVD set! 2-D, 3-D, special effects/interviews for 2-D, and special effects for 3-D!

Posted by Loonybud Jul 18th 2006

My knee jerk reaction to this 3-D thing is that I hope they don't do it, or at least re-format the DVD to play without it. It doesn't seem right to fool around with the formatting when it could break any sense of continuity that might exist among the films. I could be wrong-- but I think the sense of reality in the Potterverse would be hampered by this. Viewers might feel once-removed from the sort of action they've grown accustomed to, and comfortable with, seeing. The Potter films have made enormous money in the theatrical release; I don't see why they think the franchise is being sapped by DVD releases.

Posted by dinky_diddy_kins Jul 18th 2006

The battle at the DoM in 3D would be more gooder then anything else.

Posted by Yossarian Jul 18th 2006

very interesting. This could change the industry forever, but it could hurt the theater industry more than help.

Posted by Linden Jul 18th 2006

Having OoTP in 3-D at all would simply add cheap thrills to the movie. Most movies with 3-D scenes (Spy Kids 3-D) are gimmicky. Plus it would make the movie radically different from the previous films. (We already have to handle directorial changes every couple of scenes.) It would also make the movie childish and take away from the overall movie plot. OoTP is the book we see the most emotional development in Harry. Who wants to see Harry kissing Cho in 3-D? Cinemark just wants to let everyone know that this technology is out there and want to attach it to next year's biggest movie. Everyone will go see OoTP because it is Harry Potter. Look at how well Pirates of the Caribbean is doing. Everyone liked the first movie so they went to the second movie. The movie industry as forgotten that nothing can replace a well acted, well written and well directed movie. With all the trash that is in theatres today no wonder we are in a box office slump.

Posted by lumos Jul 18th 2006

if you have to wear those red and green glasses like spy kids then i dont want them to make it 3D. kinda give me a head ache anyways. but it sounds soo good in IMAX!! woot nsl, mpsact,go imf, h/cm f!

Posted by dreaming__ofyou Jul 18th 2006

it might be kind of cool to have the scene in the DoM in 3D...it IS kind of cheesy though, & the glasses give me a headache too.

Posted by lumos Jul 18th 2006

has anyone started counting down the days?.. i do believe it is 360 days until OOTP!! cant wait!! Linden agree completely with you

Posted by GoWiddershins Jul 18th 2006

Aw...I hope not! Even if they do come out with a 3-D version, they should also come out with a regular version! And if they are...well then I feel dumb. I CAN"T WAIT UNTIL IT COMES OUT!

Posted by Deppified Jul 18th 2006

well, this is kinda cool ... some scenes could be in 3-D, but not everyone .. that would be too ... I don't know! doesn't fit HP. Forexample in Grimmauld's ,, when Harry is going in, and suddenly Sirius's mother yells right at your face .. :S:P that would scared the heck out of me ..

Posted by crazyy Jul 18th 2006

I really prefer regular scenes without 3-D..whatever

Posted by lumos Jul 18th 2006

No 3D for harry potter films. doesn't fit. better for other things. and i hope that if they do it in 3D.. its not like that shrek or spy kids one. i didnt' like them. it would be to cheap and cheezy lookin.

Posted by danfan Jul 18th 2006

KOOL! Ciaran rocks! I also LUV that idea!

Posted by zachattack Jul 18th 2006

Cool i really like the idea well We love u Jo!

Posted by Slytherins_Finest Jul 18th 2006

Man, that sucks. 3-D does not work. It doesn't make it look better it just makes it look stupid like Spy Kids. If they are trying to make only a few scenes in 3-D...that's even worse. I think it should be all 3-D or no 3-D. Personally, I strongly prefer no 3-D.

Posted by Jimmer Jul 18th 2006

I HATE 3-D!

Posted by dobbyfreak Jul 18th 2006

I agree with Linden about the whole cheap thrills thing. I think Harry Potter has enoguh unique elements of thrill and so much material to go on from the book that 3D not only overdoes it but seems rather childish.

Posted by HarrietJPotter Jul 18th 2006

I read that the other day. I actually think it's pretty cool, just hope that it's not overdone and cheesy. This movie should be really neat. And guys, if you don't like the idea, just go to a theater without the technology, and you won't have to worry!

Posted by dobbyfreak Jul 18th 2006

Good point, HarrietJPotter. I definitely will avoid 3D theaters for the Order release.

Posted by HPFREAK7 Jul 18th 2006

im not sure about this... some 3 D and some not.... sounds like it will be wierd

Posted by r4v3ncl4w Jul 18th 2006

I don't know how it'll work without looking like crap. I saw a scene from The Birds in 3D: It was pretty cool. But those are just birds flying around. I don't see it going well with the Potterverse, where imagination is key. Oh, and--top 1000!!!!!!1111!!!OnE!!1

Posted by tovarbaker Jul 18th 2006

this is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard "Nobody has forgotten last year's box office slump." If sales fell because consumers preferred to watch DVDs in their living rooms, then "theaters need a more compelling reason for people to get out of their homes." nobody stays home and chooses to watch a DVD in their living room because stuff isn't flying at them from the screen. people stay away from movie theaters because Movies are generally bad and tickets are to expensive and we are forced to watch 10 minutes of commercials prior to the coming attractions, so as a rusult peopl eare more choosy about how to spend their $ on a film

Posted by lizzybennet Jul 18th 2006

Dear, Leoseeker09 , I'm going to have to disagree. You see, OotP is not an 'action thriller' but it does have a lot of action in it. The chase in the department of mysteries, the fight in the same place and the flight on the thestrals are all action scenes that, in my opinion would look cool in 3D format. (Which is why 'The_Marching_Band_Of_Manhattan' that some scenes are 3D and others aren't) I personally think that GoF with its three tasks would have looked better in 3D but OotP can work in 3D too. However, if you still don't like the idea then go to a theater that doesn't have the technology and end of story. I've also heard that it would seem 'childish' to use 3D but let me make it clear that Harry Potter, although enjoyed by many adults and teenagers (such as me) is indeed a children's book and when it comes to 3D I don't think it would be 'childish' I actually find it could be cool to see one of those gigantic thestral wings pop out of the screen. Just think about it. I think it sounds awesome. But well that's just my opinion. You don't have to agree.

Posted by cool_varzz Jul 18th 2006

3d or no 3d im gonna watch both on da very 1st day.......cant wait!

Posted by sugarquill Jul 18th 2006

seriously? i dunno, it might degrade the Harry Potter movie and definitely make it cheesy... i mean, when would they put it in and not make it cheesy? i'm thinking and i can't find one spot. if they do, they'd better not put it in when the Death Eaters are fighting Dumbledore's Army in the Death Chamber... cuz that's when Sirius dies... anyways, i can't see Harry Potter in 3-D form. and the dvd coming out with those stupid paper glasses with the elastic strap that looks soooo dorky. can any of you?
