Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes
Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes Cinemark, America's third biggest theater chain, has announced that it plans to use "Real D" technology in 150 theaters by the end of 2007, thus attracting more audiences. Real D enables a single digital projector to beam images that seem to move toward or away from viewers wearing special glasses. While we already know that Order of the Phoenix will be played in IMAX theaters, the company has apparently discussed with OOTP producers the idea of including some 3-D scenes in the movie for some non-IMAX theaters.

Regarding the increased interest in 3-D, Research Associates analyst Marla Backer says: "Nobody has forgotten last year's box office slump." If sales fell because consumers preferred to watch DVDs in their living rooms, then "theaters need a more compelling reason for people to get out of their homes."

coming soon: HARRY POTTER...in 3-D!!!! lol. how strange.

Posted by dobbyfreak Jul 18th 2006

Dear, lizzybennet. The reason many people say it is childish is becuase it would be. While many different generations enjoy the books and the the books were intended for younger audiences, the movie rating will be PG-13. PG-13 movies should not be childish. The movies are not the books. Movies are very different from books, and while books can attract younger and older audiences, I don't think a PG-13 movie would. Therefore, many of the movie-watchers will be older and not willing to wear 3D glasses. Then again, I might be wrong, but as a teen, I think it is very childish. But I respect you opinion and am willing to listen to another argument if you reply with one and try to look through your point of view.

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan Jul 18th 2006

I'm not sure about this 3-D thing either.

Posted by crazy_ned Jul 18th 2006

3D is nothing but a goofy gimmick. Just give us a good movie, thank you.

Posted by hagridroxmysox Jul 18th 2006

i rrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy dont want it to go through 3d. come on seriously, my lil sis saw winnie da pooh in 3d. this makes it seem like spy-kids. seriously thats retarded. no. i dont like that idea at all. @sugarquill- i sssssssssoooooooooooooooo agree w/ u!!!!!!! i cant c dat at all. @lizzybennet- i am going 2 have 2 agree w/ Leoseeker09. the book didnt have a whole lot of action in it. the book all put together was very exiting and reeeeely bood but if u just look at seperate scenes theres only a few that are actually action filled like the department of mystery scenes. i really cant think of any other ones. even the department of mystery scenes are like a mystery cuz like the 1 w/ the veil will b prrtee quiet and hesitant and like not fast and exiting but like suspenseful. so now u no my view of da matter tell me more bout yours.

Posted by flibbertigibbit Jul 18th 2006

oh think about the magic of being able to see all the little smashed particles of the ministry of magic actually flying towards youe eyes. and forget the old wizard deuls, now it can look like youre getting a wand poked in your eye! as a bonus, you migth actually think youre getting smacked in the face by the veil! and after the movie you'll be rewarded with a nice migrane to take home with you, and little creases in your face from where the paper glasses cut into you. who wouldnt want to watch harry potter in 3D?

Posted by profq Jul 18th 2006

I hope they don't use a 3D format. That would ruin the whole movie and possibly the series. They shouldn't do anything simply because other films did it and it was successful for them. That isn't what will get people in the theaters. The movies that they mentioned in the article were/are highly anticipated so people were going to see the movie anyway.

Posted by alicepotter Jul 18th 2006

i don't know if I like this... i have to agree with sugarquill that it might make the movie cheesy... and no one wants that!

Posted by veelagirl Jul 18th 2006

For other movies, it would be awesome, but 3-D scenes doesn't seem very Harry Potter-ish to me. It sounds a little dumb.

Posted by Pinkslips Jul 18th 2006

Yeah, I agree with drstevo, I would watch it in theaters 3-D or not. Since of course its Harry Potter. But I gotta say, it would be pretty awesome to have some 3-D scenes in it, just to have the feeling ;)

Posted by Jman61568 Jul 18th 2006

The only problem i have with this is the fact that they are probably going to make the actors stick their hands out towards the camera and stuff like that so it will look like their hand is coming out of the screen. and thats going to look really bad. especially after how cheesy that spy kids movie was. i dont think i really want harry potter going in that direction

Posted by upsest336 Jul 18th 2006

what the? 3D? WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GO AND RUIN THE DAMN MOVIES??? 3D?!!! HARRY POTTER? 3D?! OUT RAGE!!!!! IT ALREADY SOUNDS LIKE THEY RUINED IT ENOUGH FOR ONE YEAR! BUT 3D?! WHY IN MERLIN'S BEARD WOULD THEY PUT HARRY POTTER IN 3D?! LEAVE THAT TO THE SPY KIDS OR WHATEVER! BUT HARRY POTTER?!!?!??!? HARRY POTTER IS NOT 3D!!!! AND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WANT TO RENT THE ****** MOVIE AND YOU DONT HAVE THE DAMN GLASSES?! I KNOW THEY DONT GIVE THE ****** GLASSES AT BLOCKBUSTER!!! SO HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE WITH OUT GLASSES TO ENJOY THE MOVIE?! WHY MERLIN WHY?!?!?!?!?!?! thats it they ruined it. first they mess up the 3rd movie now the 5th. what has the potterverse some too? i have come to this conclusion : they should have never invented the TV. or the drive in movie theaters. i rather have the radio. i lisen to it more than i watch tv. *sighs* why do they have to mess everything up? the first 4 ( except the 3rd ) were really good and the werent in 3D! i might just cry *sniffs* good bye Harry Potter movies as we know it. THE BOOKS ARE BETTER NO CRAPPY 3D IN THE BOOKS!

Hey Everyone, As many of you know. I am just a newbie thats in a band on tour stuck on a rv. though alot of my friends go here. But I thought you would like to know that I know some of the people from these movies... not personaly. but ya you get the picture. See Ya.. The GuItaRisT

Posted by AARrocksmysox_ Jul 18th 2006

upsest336...... Whoa watch the language. not cool at all. Take it easy, best of luck The GuItaRisT

Posted by cr00kshAnks Jul 18th 2006

er...well...sounds..fine i guess

Posted by rockerbabyfi12 Jul 18th 2006

This is really funny because my friend and I were only just talking about this yesterday. TO everyone who thinks it makes it seem cheap and whatnot, I just saw Superman in 3D last night. It was really cool. If you don't like the 3D, then go see it in the regular theaters. It was just interesting to see a REAL movie in 3D...not just some crappy kids movie or an IMAX creation. While I'm not really sure this would make me go see it in IMAX, I still think it's a good idea. Besides, it wouldn't make it more childish if the reating is still PG-13.

Posted by upsest336 Jul 18th 2006

still OUTRAGE! i know it wasnt "cool" i wasnt writing it to be "cool". i have never been "cool" nor will i ever be. im just a litte, ok a LOT mad that they might make it in 3D. Harry Potter wasnt broken so why are they trying to fix it? why cant they stay true to the books? as a director i would try as hard as i could to keep the story true to the books. not put the movie in 3D. but i give up. the movie might be crappy but i guess those of us who dont want it to be in 3D will just have to live with it.

Posted by ProfessorDumbledore Jul 18th 2006

Interesting, the more elements the better the movie will be.

Posted by Janey Jul 18th 2006

OotP in 3D...? Um....no...no I don't think so. Not necessary. HP doesn't need 3D to bring in more money, because IT'S HARRY POTTER!!! Trust me, the film alone will bring in enough money. Don't go messing it up with all that annoying freaky 3D stuff. And seriously, if they're worried about the box office slump, I think I can safely say that POTC has fixed that problem. Thank you Johhny Depp. :)

Posted by memi Jul 18th 2006

AWSOM!!

Posted by mrchristopher01 Jul 18th 2006

I can't stand 3-D Imax. If any of you saw Superman at Imax you will know what I am talking about. You would protest this if you want to see a good movie at Imax.

Posted by MuggleMage Jul 18th 2006

That does sound cool! I don't think 3D would make it bad tho. Spy Kids, Sharkboy & Lavaboy were just plain bad movies. Besides can you imagine something like spells coming toward you during the MoM fight? One word: sweet.

Posted by Punchycat Jul 18th 2006

Ugh, that sounds like a terrible idea.

Posted by Arrowing Jul 18th 2006

I cant really see Hp in 3D. The books are the best and if you stick to the book plot you dont need to add stuff like 3D affects. Plus, those 3D glasses? It wouldnt be so bad if we dont need them, but i never really liked things in 3D. I suppose we will just need to wait and see what happens.

Posted by The_Oddball Jul 18th 2006

I don't completly agree with that. All in 3-D, sure like Superman returns with the real glasses and not thoses fake red and blue ones. It would distory the movie. If you want to see it in 3-D pay the extra money and go to an Imax theatre like the rest of us. By the way, GOF was fantastic in Imax. And I can't spell.

Posted by scurvy_cur Jul 18th 2006

hmm i duno, i would always wanna watch it in the cinema anyway it seems a bit gimiky to me not bothered tho i just wont see it in 3D!

Posted by Kareen Jul 18th 2006

All right, I agree with the whole 'we need something that will convince people to get out of their homes and go to the theaters'. But 3-D is not the way to go. I just think 3-D is cheesy as it is. They did that with the third Spy Kids movie to try and get more interest and it didn't do anything. It still sucked. If they had 3-D scenes in HP I think I would go insane, especially if the movie ends up being PG-13 again. 3-D is something you do for kids movies, which, strictly speaking, HP is NOT anymore.

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Jul 18th 2006

hmm i dont really like 3D i think it spoils the movie...

Posted by Mrs_Finnegan Jul 18th 2006

OMG that's so cool!!!

Posted by katemolly Jul 18th 2006

Oh, God no. I don't want it to be in 3D at all. I mean, really, people get so excited about 3D, but it could make Harry Potter annoyingly cheesy. I for one don't want a 3D Harry Potter movie, and we all know that the real reason there was a box office slump is that many people who actually read Harry Potter did not want to see it after their friends, who also actually read Harry Potter, told them just how much they took out. So then those people didn't want to see it, but eventually they did, and by that time it was out on DVD. Besides, movie theatres are expensive, and seeing a movie in 3D would just make me want to watch it on a DVD without the 3Dness. In any case, 3D used to scare me a LOT. I begged my mother every single time we went to Walt Disney World (10 times, and going again this August) NOT to go to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Of course, that was when I was a lot younger, but still!

Posted by phoenixlamentforever Jul 18th 2006

Wow...my favorite book of the series is going to having 3-D specail effects. I can't wait to see it. It will make me feel like part of the movie!!!!!!

Posted by olives548 Jul 18th 2006

that is so ridiculous. are you kidding me? 3d?!? i mean, come one. im sorry to those who are all excited about the 3D, but i think that is so stupid. Making its 3D would killlllll the movie. ALOT! I wanna go watch the movie for entertainment, not to get a flipping headache when it comes to the DoM scene and there is a spell shot "right at me". But to me, 3D...you know how many people would complain about that? Leave all that 3D stuff to some other movies..but leave Harry Potter the way it is!

Posted by Leomhann Jul 18th 2006

Seeing Movie 5 in 3-D isn't a very "compelling" reason to go to the theater to me. I don't want to have to use glasses to see the movie. I just want a staight-up traditional film (or as traditional as an HP movie could get). Doing scenes in 3-D doesn't really make for a "timeless" film.

Posted by HPobsessed08 Jul 18th 2006

I'm gonna have to say it's gonna make it seem cheap. It's a cool idea and all, just not for the HP movies. They don't need 3-D to get people to see the movie in theaters...trust me, people will see it! lol

Posted by Aryapotter Jul 18th 2006

Yuck!!! I hate 3D movies!!!!!!!!They always look terrible!

Posted by flibbertigibbit Jul 18th 2006

...seems kind of like a better reason NOT to see it in the theater

Posted by thehillsx48 Jul 18th 2006

that'd be cool. whoa..first hp movie in 3-D 8)

Posted by jozefd1 Jul 18th 2006

Great hope the glasses are the same as in the Shrek 4-d movie in universal studios hollywood

Posted by Fidgette Jul 18th 2006

This will never happen. 3D movies are gernerally kids movies. Now that Potter is getting more adult ((pg-13 ratings)) the chances of them doing this is slim in my opinion. It would ruin Potter. p.s.- I hate wearing the stupid glasses. They dont fit right over my unusually large nose.

Posted by PrincessPercephone Jul 18th 2006

I think making a HP movie 3d is an absolutely horrific idea! There is nowhere you could use that technology without undermining the whole integrity of not only the film but, for those who haven't read it especially, the book to a certain degree. There is no where that 3d could successfully better the movie that I can come up with. That being said, I'll still see the movie no matter what, because after all, its still Harry, even if it is in a juvenile and degrading format.

Posted by TrekBoy85 Jul 18th 2006

Make no mistake about it.. I Love the Potter Movies, but please be weary about going to any Cinemark Theatres. Contrary to what they proclaim is their goal - "Total and Complete Customer Satisfaction" a majority of them will treat you like crap, as well as their own employees. They spend a lot of money on their new technologies, but none on their employees. Go anywhere else, see it as much as you want- but don't let Cinemark ruin a good movie and having a good time. -Former Cinemark Assistant Manager

Posted by voldiesgirlfriend Jul 18th 2006

this is so weird becuase last time IMAX wouldn't show Superman because they were trying to keep it educational but again Harry Potter is a book and who doesn't want to make some money??!! Anyway that does sound so cool. i am looking forward to it like any Harry Potter fan. :)

Posted by quidditchplayer Jul 18th 2006

That would be great, but I hope it is not only in USA :S

Posted by hprocks Jul 18th 2006

That would be so cool! I could definently see parts of OOTP being in 3-D. I just hope they don't have those cheap red-and-blue glasses and get real ones!

Posted by Dan_fan Jul 18th 2006

it would be terrific if some of the scenes were 3-D!!! i just hope if it is it goes 3-D for non-imax theaters.=-)

Posted by upsest336 Jul 18th 2006

like i said before. the movie isnt broken so why fix it with 3D affects that would ruin it?

Posted by HogsmeadeGirl111 Jul 18th 2006

This is ridiculous. Honestly, how cheesy and stupid does this sound: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 3D! If they honestly think that 3D will attract consumers, realize this: 0% of the people who go to see Harry Potter are fans, 20% are crazed fans that dress up in Harry Potter suits and really take it to heart if their obsession is degraded, and 10% just go to make fun of the movie. Would any smart producer want to lose roughly 50% of their income because they've meddled with the books by turning them into haphazardly made 3D movies? Do they honestly believe that anyone would want to go to the movie theater, purchase a bucket of popcorn and recieve those ridiculous bluish-green and red 3D glasses made of flimsy cardboard and the elastic strap you find in underwear? Of course I'd see the movie because it's Harry Potter, but I wouldn't be able to stifle a laugh at those so called 3D scenes that they plan to trash HP with.

Posted by amy4dan1327 Jul 18th 2006

that would be awesome!!!!!!!!

Posted by pottergirl853211 Jul 18th 2006

I really hope they don't put that in 3-D. That would make the whole thing so cheesy looking. I think it would turn most people off of Harry Potter if they did that. Its not even really supposed to be about the special effects its the story that should pack people into the theater.

Posted by meowkitty04 Jul 18th 2006

i dunno . . . all the 3D movies I've seen didn't look 3D. It just looks bad. I hope they don't do it. They'll get plenty of money doing it without.
