Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes
Movie 5 could feature 3-D scenes Cinemark, America's third biggest theater chain, has announced that it plans to use "Real D" technology in 150 theaters by the end of 2007, thus attracting more audiences. Real D enables a single digital projector to beam images that seem to move toward or away from viewers wearing special glasses. While we already know that Order of the Phoenix will be played in IMAX theaters, the company has apparently discussed with OOTP producers the idea of including some 3-D scenes in the movie for some non-IMAX theaters.

Regarding the increased interest in 3-D, Research Associates analyst Marla Backer says: "Nobody has forgotten last year's box office slump." If sales fell because consumers preferred to watch DVDs in their living rooms, then "theaters need a more compelling reason for people to get out of their homes."

This is what think to putting only some scenes in ootp 3-D NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it would totally destroy the movie it would make it cheesy and trashy plus the fact that theres goin to only be "some" scenes in 3-D, now thats what i call stupid.

Posted by emilily Jul 18th 2006

How boring and cheesy...just make a good movie and then people will watch it. Not all Harry Potter fans are ten years old, or have the movie people forgotten that?

Posted by ConCon Jul 18th 2006

I dont know... I think for the people that dont like 3-D that dont wear the glasses will get a headache from the blue and red lines.

Posted by valaarien Jul 18th 2006

PLEASE NO 3-D!!! Cinemark I hate you!!!!!! (Sorry I work there and have to deal with the same thing with Superman right now). BTW... you DO need special glasses to view the movie in 3-D. The glasses have to be polarized. Also, if they make parts of it in 3-D, all (or almost all... stupid Monster House) IMAX versions will have parts in 3-D while all the regular screens will be in 2-D. I swear, if I'm still working at Cinemark when OOTP comes out and it's in 3-D, I'm quitting! It's the most rediculous thing to have only 20 minutes of a movie in 3-D (Superman that means you)!

Posted by Tonks0388 Jul 18th 2006

UGH!! OMG 3D!?!?! Thats sooooooo stupid!! That will make the movie so much morew worse than it already will be. There is nothing in the story line that they could make 3D. They already have to cuz out so much stuff why make it worse by making it look cheap by using 3D?

Posted by Jackson Jul 18th 2006

if its in 3D in theatres, then ZZI'm going to IMAX, thats just stupid

Posted by flamephoenix Jul 18th 2006

hm. i don't want the movie to be in 3D, they should keep that in imax. until they improve the 3D technology, it's just not that enjoyable to watch, especially when it's only some scenes. the glasses are uncomfortable and annoying, but if you take them off then you can't tell what's going on. and like i mentioned, 3D technology just isn't that great right now. i hope they don't do it...

Posted by halexandra Jul 18th 2006

Ugh. Are you serious? 3-D hurts my eyes and is annoying.

Posted by StarzieSpells Jul 18th 2006

That is so cool!! imagine all of the spells or stuff that we will think is coming at us but not. I hope it really makes it to 3-D!!!

Posted by StarzieSpells Jul 18th 2006

I also kind of agree with DarkMark on the first page!!!!

Posted by IBM62 Jul 18th 2006

Ew. I don't like the 3D scenes. They make me dizzy.

Posted by Myalah Jul 18th 2006

I work at cinemark...yay!

Posted by ickle_diddykins Jul 18th 2006

I went on a field trip once about 3-4 years ago and we went to an IMAX movie that was filmed aboard the ISS. I think the goggles were about 1 lb? ((yet unnoticable when wearing) as they accomadate regular glasses, a must) and it was cool and all BUT it was for the entire film. It's one of those things you have to see how cool it is but never do it again. If they made you put them on and take them off it would be a pain. The second time i watched part of a movie in 3-d I was at my dad's former bosses house and his kids and I watched Spy Kids 3-d with those stupid flimsy red and blue glasses and it was a terrible feeling jamming between your normal glasses or constantly holding them in front of your glasses. I only watched the first five minutes before I gave up on them. So I would say don't do any of it in 3-d.

Posted by Myalah Jul 18th 2006

To the person who said that 3d won't come to their little town, I thought that about 6 years ago cuz i live in a small town, it's usually refered as another town that's right next to us in news stories and weather alerts. Our imax is about 3-5 years old...it's sooo cool...

Posted by Myalah Jul 18th 2006

oh, valaarien, I know how you feel...Superman is still sold out! so...much...popcorn...ug....

Posted by ickle_diddykins Jul 18th 2006

Kind of off topic but I would go to the movies more often if they lowered the prices on the tickets. I went to a movie on the 3rd of July and for two adults and one kid at matinee prices in Eagle River, AK is $22, and that's without popcorn/drinks. To the movie theater industry, lower prices + less sticky floors = big boost in revenue (IMHO). Bye bye box office slump.

Posted by delusional Jul 18th 2006

here's why this wouldn't work (im sure this has been repeated several times but oh well) 1. 3-D appears cheesy 2. there have already been to many changes in the films, we don't need anymore 3. there is too much emotional developement rather than action for it to remotely work 4. those stupid glasses never fit and bug the crap out of most people 5. the classes also tend to distort the color of the film, turning it red blue and purple which also annoys me so lets keep OotP 2-D ok??

Posted by olives548 Jul 19th 2006

HogsmeadeGirl111, i argee with you 100%. i mean, that is sooo ridiculous. I think having it in 3D would make it a bigger reason for people to just buy the DVD and watch it at home in 2D. I think this soooo stupid. I REALLY hope they dont put it in TV. It would give Anti-HP people a bigger reason to mock it. Gosh...3D harry potter..stupidest idea.

Posted by Lady_Parafreak Jul 19th 2006

i HATE 3D!!!!! did you see spy kids 3d? it made the movie worse than it already was....where can we petition this thought? lol harry potter is so fantastic that it does not need 3d to "make it better"....it already is better!!!

Posted by Julied112 Jul 19th 2006

you would think mvoie theaters would clue in that the reason people dont like going to movie theaters anyore is because it cost an arm and a leg to go. Making movies 3D wont increase the audiance, execept abnoxious 4 years olds who scream and talk al the way through the theater.....

Posted by DecemberDrops Jul 19th 2006

Oh, I seriously doubt so, and would strongly disapprove of three-dimensional scenes.

Posted by Sariza Jul 19th 2006

I guess that would be cool, but it's always been hard for my to wear those 3-D glasses because I already wear glasses. So I don't know... Anyone agree?

Posted by flibbertigibbit Jul 19th 2006

you know how in book land they make those pop out stories where you open the page and a rainbow stands up or something. well, theyre generally only made for little kiddy books. i think they might want to try keeping the 3D(pop out!) effects in kiddy movies.

Posted by IBM62 Jul 19th 2006

The only movie I ever saw in 3D was SharkBoy and Lavagirl. Did anyone else see it? I was like, the only one in the theater

Posted by kan Jul 19th 2006

hey! that things gonna b cool!!!!!!!!!>>>>>>>>sumthg unsual 4 da hp movies.....why some parts ??

Posted by HarryandtheDA Jul 19th 2006

Man, this is totally lame! In the first place, if you're going to put one movie in 3D, then the HP movies before OotP should have been 3D too. In the second place, little children are the ones who like the 3D stuff and HP isn't exactly a little kid's movie, is it? Third, it would just degrade HP. It doesn't make any sense. Fourth of all, not all theaters have the equipment to show a movie in 3D. Am I making any sense, people?

Posted by dobbyfreak Jul 19th 2006

You make the most sense I've heard, HarryandtheDA! I AGREE TOTALLY!

Posted by mugglecastrocks Jul 19th 2006

HECK NO. that's waayyy stupid. i would say more, but i think all the people before me said it well/good.

Posted by cheep_wand Jul 19th 2006

I don't care--- i'm going to see it whether it's "cheesy" or "more like spy-kids" or if it isn't. this is dumb. If you think that 3D is stupid, then just don't go watch it in IMAX. It's that simple.

Posted by cheep_wand Jul 19th 2006

wait... nevermind. i guess it's showing in theaters that aren't IMAX. but still... i won't change the Plot of the movie any.

Posted by britishwannabe Jul 19th 2006

Sugarquill, I agree with you! 3D equals cheesy....I'd rather watch OotP through my own eyes and not through some moronic paper glasses.

Posted by clemence713 Jul 19th 2006

*gasp*

Posted by drownyour_kiss Jul 19th 2006

THis can really turn off some movie viewers (me!) Some people have physical problems that really don't allow them to watch movies in 3D. I know that personally, I can't see anything when watching them, and if I CAN see it 3D, my head hurts so bad and I get so nauseated, that I can't look. I hope that this isn't the case OR there are two versions, one in 3D and one now.

Posted by modenadude Jul 19th 2006

Pirates 2 made a quarter million in one week.... is it really necessary for people to be so dramatic over last year's sales slump?

Posted by Pelifico Jul 19th 2006

I think it should be in 3D because there is probably going to be alot more dueling scenes than the last 4 films. The idea for making the movie 3D in some theaters and 2D in others Shouldn't effect the movie.

Posted by HPdancer11 Jul 20th 2006

OMG! That would be so corny and stupid. people would come for the 3-d not the movie and that would wreck it and no one whould like it and then harry potter fans would be looked on as even bigger geeks, nerds, and freaks!

Posted by miranda_sumthing Jul 20th 2006

i think thats a bad idea...it doesn't really make since at all

Posted by Fluffy Jul 20th 2006

meh... I really don't care much about the 3D, but it won't ruin the quality of the movie, only add some visual effects. I'm still excited to see it in IMAX! the bigger screen is always better, so if 3D comes along with that I wouldn't mind.

Posted by iheartMalfoy Jul 20th 2006

I don't think I would like that. Having to put the glasses on, and tehn off, and then on, and then off, it gets very annoying. And to me, it would just ruin the movie. I don't really think I would like it. I honestly hope they don't do any 3D parts. They didn't in any of the other movies, so why now?

Posted by Megan_523 Jul 20th 2006

NOOO!!! gah, i really hope this doesn't happen. First of all, I definately don't want to give people a reason to compare the great series of harry potter with something like spy kids or shark boy and lava girl. Second, it would completely take away from the movie. If in "real-D" the director might feel the need to create more scenes that really have nothing to do with the movie, but are fun to watch in real-d. I'm seriously going to cry if they screw up what has the potential to be one of the greatest movies of all time.

Posted by potterfan22 Jul 20th 2006

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cuz i saw spy kids in 3 D which was kind of a dumb movie anyway. But when you watch it in 3 D its like seeing double and everything turns purple!!!!!it sucks tht would ruin the entire harry potter vibe.

Posted by the_lollipop Jul 20th 2006

wow that wud tottally suck if hp was in 3d...i mean think about it, the only semi successful movie that came out in 3d was SPY KIDS........and that was really lame--o. i really hope they dont do that to harrypotter...i mean wizards arent meant to be seen in 3d...GOD!!

Posted by hrhpotter210 Jul 20th 2006

Ok....I will be really unhappy if it is 3-D. Think about every movie that came out in 3-D. Were they any good? In my opinion 3-D movies are cheesy. It would ruin the real effect of the movie.

Posted by hufflepuff Jul 21st 2006

I could only laugh when I saw this. It is so typical of the brainless idiots that produce the Harry Potter movies. 3D is so old and so corny and so stupid, so of course the natural result is that it will be featured in a Harry Potter movie. The movies are an absolute joke. The acting is simply dreadful; the people in charge of casting should never be let near any production as long as they live. The new Dumbledore is an absolute insult to anybody that is a fan of Harry Potter. It just amazes me how much they get wrong. For example, why do the freakin students run around in jeans and sweatshirts? Why are entire side stories and characters cut?? Why does every movie invent tension-filled romance scenes with Ron and Hermione??? WHY DOES ROWLING PUT UP WITH THIS CRAP???? Sorry, I just had to get this out of my system. I love the Harry Potter books, don't get me wrong. They're my favorite series, in fact. But the movies do the books zero justice, and for the most part are of a quality comparable to what I just flushed down the toilet.

Posted by hrhpotter210 Jul 21st 2006

I had to add to my previous comment....After reading the USA today article on the releases of 3-D movies, I realized that the movies that were mentioned were all CARTOONS. If OOTP is in 3-D it will ( in my opinion ) look childish.

Posted by YouKnowWhoIam Jul 21st 2006

I think 3d scenes would sort of ruin it and make it corny...just my two cents.

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Jul 21st 2006

i agree with hufflepuff except at this part: "The acting is simply dreadful; the people in charge of casting should never be let near any production as long as they live." well i dont think ALL of the acting is dreadful and the casting directors are pretty good (i think evanna is perfect) sorry kind of off topic but yeah...and yup i agree with practically everyone else-3d would ruin the movie
