According to a report earlier today from CinemaBlend.com, Warner Brothers is looking into making The Tales of Beedle the Bard a major motion picture. "Knowing that the magical gravy train is coming to an end, the WB is looking for ways to squeeze more out of Potter." According to their sources, WB is still trying to figure out exactly how the book would translate into a film. Please remember that this is pure speculation and should be treated as a rumor until more info becomes available! Thanks to Kat for the tip!

that is ridiculous. can u say MONEY! WB needs to find creative screenwriters and stop relying on sequels, remakes and adaptions. 1st?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:38:05

no i dont think so maybe WB should concentrate on making dh kick ass

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:38:17

it might be fun......but who knows....five movies or one long movie?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:39:41

haha. i was actually just wondering that while reading it last night. ...as great as it would be, i think it would just make WB look a bit pathetic. no offense.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:40:27

Really? Come on now, isnt that unnecessary. This better be a rumor because if not it would be ridiculous. Lets just slow down and give the potter world a rest. Besides, five stories? Thats not a movie. Thats a collage of short films.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:43:37

Why not have it as an animated short before one of the DH movies?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:52:41

If this turns out to be true, I will have lost all faith in Warner Bros. Oh wait, that already happened when they delayed HBP.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:54:09

Its likely they want to make Tales of Beedle the Bard into shorts to be shown in Universals Harry Potter World. You know how theme parks usually have a movie of some sort? Same concept, but Potter-ized! As a movie in a theater though? Thats just a ridicuous way to get money, because there is no set plot line. Im sticking with my HP park shorts idea :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:55:26

What is silver screen?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:57:25

Oooohh I like Alannas idea of having it as an animated short before the full-length DH feature!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 19:59:31

how about having them in the Deathly Hallows, kind of like what Alanna said, but not animated and in the middle of the movie when Hermione is reading the book. It wont be like they will be short on time considering it will be split in two... but knowing WB, they wont do anything that wont make them more money...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:00:00

i absolutley agree grintlover! Alannas and Bobinas ideas sound good too- like Pixars Lifted.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:01:28

idk man

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:16:47

Ahahaa omg. Tales like Beedle dont make sense as a "major motion picture." Theyre storybook tales! And all separate stories! Animated shorts would be a good idea though. I wish Mary Grande-Pre would make a pop-up book for Beedle, that would be aweeesome!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:18:01

It would be so cool to keep the Harry Potter franchise going with Beedle the Bard. It would just add so much more enthusiasm to the fandom dont you guys think? It would be cool if the movie was five different stories intertwined by Dumbledore in some way, like Crash or 21. I think it would work out someway though.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:18:51

Im so over loaded!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:20:33

No way. Beedle the Bard would make a horrible movie, though for some odd reason i would still watch. I hope this is a rumor

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:21:25

Oooh cmon. Gawd... Warner Brothers... all you care about is money. For real... Thats ridiculous. They cant make fricking... Beedle the Bard into a movie.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:27:49

The best idea is that they should only make "The Tale of the three brothers" so when hermione is reading it, we can have a visual story. Making an entire movie based of the tiny book is just ridiculous!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:39:43

This just screams desperate. I do hope that this is just a rumor, because some stories are meant to remain strictly on paper. The ToBtB are some of those. Not to mention that theyre TINY. Itd be a five minute movie.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:40:27

This would be stupid... unless they make an animated short or something before DH as someone else suggested. "Tale of the Three Brothers," perhaps?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:42:15

I think that it is ridiculous. Mind you, I have not read the book yet, but I just think that the HP world can only have so much. I feel that with the seven movies, that it is just enough and they have already merchandised the heck out of Harry Potter as it is.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:44:49

that would be interesting... how in the world would they do that? in my opinion, highly unlikely... but if they are serious, then WOW. could possibly be good, if done the right way, but these things never are (except hbp, it looks REALLY good!!), and since the stories dont even have a central plot line that really ties them together...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 20:59:06

LOL. I actually just snorted out loud when I read this news post. WB is really getting desperate now that HP is nearly done. Wow. Its kind of funny. Oh well, I know Ill end up seeing it if its true, though I think theyd better keep it to little animated shorts for the park as someone else said. Otherwise... oi.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:00:35

haha i was thinking that while i was reading the book "Imagine if they made this into a movie" and then i read this.. wow. i dunno it would be weird, there arent any really strong connections to HP. OMG i just envisioned Dumbledore sitting in a rocking chair with his long beard and half moon glasses reading out the stories like santa claus...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:04:19

Sounds like a good idea to me. Is WB just looking for another way to get money out of the franchise before its over? Most likely, but that really isnt a bad thing imo. Especially if it means well be getting a motion picture version of this book. I could see it working really well. Basically make each as a small movie, but put them together to make one long movie, and introduce each story as though the audience is reading the book itself. Would be even cooler if they would then insert a little bit of Dumbledores commentary at the end of each story. They could even film Gambon sitting in the Headmasters Office set saying some of the commentary. The more I think about this, the more I hope its true.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:09:05

I would love more Harry Potter. But only the fans would find this interesting as a film. It would be pretty short, and I guess it might be cool. I like Alanas idea of a short animated film before DH. Idk about this though, itd be cool though.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:26:37

I do enjoy the fact that WB realizes just how great the Harry Potter franchise has become. A nice compliment to JK Rowling for her outstanding work, even if they do just want extra cash. However, I do think this is over stepping a bit to far. If they end up doing it though, I will certainly take the time to see it and Im sure it could be great. Its just a scary move. They could really mess it up. I just hope they know what they are getting themselves into by messing with a book that was made for charity.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:31:18

I just cant believe it.....Some stories are meant to be left to the imagination...oh wait, has WB forgot what that is. I kinda hope that JK Rowling doesnt produce an encyclopedia (not because that I wouldnt LOVE to read it)....WB might just want to make that into a film too....Can to imagine....Harry Potter: The Definitive Encyclopedia: A 25 part mini-series.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:32:57

I do not how they going to make this k into a movie, are they going to make a scene like Hermione is reading the book to the next generaion of magic? But if they are only to make money I do not think is a good idea to do it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:38:32

ugh, i really hope they dont...it would seriously be over kill

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:44:59

I know exactly how they could do it... After they have finished all of the books movies, and Harry is all alive and well with children, he could be telling them bed time stories and oh wow, its the Tales of Beedle the Bard

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:57:57

It would be ok if they made it into a movie, but I think WB is just trying to get some more millions for itself out of harry potter. Just make DH really really awesome and leave Beedle alone. Besides, I cant really see how they could make it into a movie without it being really lame.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 21:59:10

I would love a cartoon movie as shorts for sure. But I bet they might show tale3brothers as an opening short for DH, or released before the 2nd movie thats part 2. I would like Dreamworks do it since they really got it right with Prince of Egypt.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 22:12:19

Eh, a major movie wouldnt be good. I mean, who wants to sit through a collection of short movies? They should makes shorts and put them in front of WB movies. And after theyve all been debuted on the big screen, make release a DVD with them. Thatd be their best bet (:

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 22:57:37

I definitely agee with Alanna!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:05:24

ok so i havent read the book yet b/c im getting it for xmas, but really this is just dumb. cant we have just ONE j.k. rowling book that ISNT a film?? seriously?? i hope this is just a rumor.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:06:50

LAME! the beedle should never EVER...EVER!1! become a motion picture. i seriously hope that this remains a rumour. just cause its harry potter related does NOT mean it needs to be a movie. cmon people...think about it ps. 5 shorts into one movie? and these would be amazingly short shorts... *sigh* oh people...what has the world come to?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:10:27

unlike most of the people on the comment board i think this is a great idea! sure WB is only doing it for money those greedy people, but i would love to keep harry potter alive as long as possible i would want to have something to look forward too after DH. im sure that WB will make it very good by changing tons of stuff in it like they always do to hp. but i just want more harry potter anything will satisfy me:)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:26:24

This is out of control! This book wasnt even meant to be published but it was done for charitys sake. Now theyre going to try to squeeze more money out of it for people who dont need it!? this is out of control! why cant we take these books at face value and use our imaginations to envision it. i totally do not support the idea of this movie

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:31:59

I agree with Ravenxl7....it would be great to have Gambon-Dumbleore introduce all the stories and make his comments on them...however, Im not entirely sure Gambon would consent to doing it haha...ya know? But still, i think if they did it the right way, then Beedle stories could make a fascinating visual film for Harry Potter fans anyways (other people may just think theyre corny ;). Anyways, cool theories and NICE rumor, but well see what actually comes from it...we may get an email from WB tomorrow saying, "this is total BS." lol Night guys!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:40:51

OMG!! I havent even gotten the book yet (waiting for birthday or Xmas!) & theyre already talking about possibly putting the book on film!? Thats crazy! Not that I mind, b/c Ill get it when it comes to DVD after the movie has been on film!!! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-08 23:45:04

Guys... no. Its little fairy tales. Not a movie. This is like what people are doing to Star Wars, putting an animated thing on the big screen that was originally intended to be a TV show. When somethings over, its over. Squeezing and squeezing to death just makes the original story lose its quality. I hope this isnt true.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 00:03:24

Lol oh yeahhh... I seriously see this happening...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 00:07:15

"Knowing that the magical gravy train is coming to an end, the WB is looking for ways to squeeze more out of Potter." couldnt be more true to what WBs intentions are. I wouldnt be surprised if they were actually planning that, but it makes me kinda lose some respect for them...money money money :( I know theyre a company but geez. after their HBP decision I know they only care about the money and its hard to accept when you care so much about the thing theyre exploiting.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 01:23:29

they better not concentrate too much on this id rahter DH be completely amazing!! =DD but i dunno i BTB being a mini TV series but a movie?? itd be lil odd dont yuh think?? =]] oh well id see it either way Davey p.s. MOV IE 6 NEEDS TO COME OUT NOW!! IM IMPATIENT

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 04:42:10

The book might make an interesting movie (animated or not)--if done properly. Perhaps it could be done slightly in The Princess Bride movie style: someone telling these stories to a child, perhaps? Lily to Harry as a baby? Harry to his own kids? Dumbledore to some students (pre-Harry era)? Im sure WB will manage to find a way to do this IF the rumor is true... and Im sure well all want to see it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 04:59:00

If this is true.... well it makes me wonder if anybody at WB has read the book.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 05:35:51

Or maybe Warner Bros could try doing something original . . . .

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 05:49:44

God, no... Please, no, leave the Beedle alone, moviemakers. Dont spread the rummor too much, or WB would really pull this off. The only thing they should do is make a version of Three Brothers in DH, like you said, something between movie and animation, with special tehnique. And first part of it would be great as a teaser trailer for DH, just imagine: black screen, and then Dumbledores voice tells the beginning of the story, we see the first part and it stops on the bridge... then title comes, almost silent, ends with anticipation. Ah, hope springs eternal.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 06:27:12

Hmmm... This could be an interesting idea... Im pretty sure that making it into shorts before the DH movies or making them for the theme park would be a better idea than making it into a full length movie... Although, i would go see it if it was made into a movie, but thats not the point, lol.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 07:12:04

NO!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 08:10:20

Im a big fan, but this is just WB greed. They are turning JKR into a brand which takes away from her brilliance.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 08:21:33

This sounds like something thought of by someone who hasnt read the book. I cant think of anything in there which would lend itself to a "major" movie, and probably not even a cartoon-length item. SPOILER ALERT!! The Wizard and the Hopping Pot runs fine in the imagination, but would be gross if drawn out. The Fountain of Fair Fortune, according to Dumbledores commentary, has a curse on anyone trying to dramatize it (altho it comes closest to being dramatizable). The Warlocks Hairy Heart is too gross for a Family-rated movie ... altho considering what else Hollywood has done ... Babbity-Rabbity ends with all witches and wizards being protected evermore - cant you see Laura whats-her-name organizing pickets? The Three Brothers has what would be a prologue and an ending - if you put anything between them, you destroy the story AND create an different, unrelated work. I think if it comes to anything, the thing it comes to will not really be JKR or Harry Potter.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:34:11

Honestly? stupid idea....how would they tie them all together? Youd think that they already made enough $$ off potter and could leave it alone

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:36:57

Tales of Beedle the Bard as a movie? New Poll, please! Fans should vote as to whether or not this would work. Now, make it an audiobook with Jim Dale/ Stephen Fry reading it. Seriously, make this a poll please!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:36:57

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:41:45

no to it being a major film... how Would they do that? but if they made short ones, like the bugs bunny episodes I watched growing up... THAT would be neat. so five 30-ish minute pieces on one thing.... that would be neat

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:47:25

I find these comments very amusing. If JKR had told WB that she wanted a movie made of The Tales of Beedle the Bard I guarantee 90% of these comments would be things like "way to go Jo" and "great idea!" and "I cant wait to see it". Instead, since its WBs idea everyones saying its dumb and just a cheap way to try to wring more money out of the HP franchise. Thats somewhat humorous... in a sad way.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 09:54:27

No! That would Ruin Beetle The bard and cheapin the book. Jo please put your foot down dont let them do it. Squish this rumor like a cockroach.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 14:44:20

That would be interesting to have it narrated by Dumbledore who would interject his comments in the middle. I can see it as a Disney-type cartoon with a bunch of short stories. It wouldnt be too long but then they can release a DVD with made up "deleted scenes", "outtakes" type of thing to be funny and maybe more comentary by Dumbledore

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 14:53:05

Major motion picture? LOL nice try. I could see them as maybe a straight-to-DVD thing....in the childrens section of Blockbuster....sitting next to Land Before Time XIV and the animated version of The Hobbit. No child would watch them or even like them, but a few desperate fans might rent them once because their bored, only to discover they may have been better off renting Clone Wars (which is indeed saying something...bleh). Nuff said.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 14:59:12

Well, if they DO decide to make it into a film, maybe they can have just some wizarding family, doesnt have to be Weasleys, Potters, Malfoys, ANYONE at all, and just tell the stories to some children, and at the end of The Tale of Three Bros., they can tell the story of Harry Potters defeat over the Dark Lord, that is, if Harry even made it public about what helped him. That could go live or animated with this. Of course, thats just my opinion & idea, lawlz.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 15:45:34

Translation: WE...WANT...MORE...MONEY! I think they should just film the Tale of the 3 Brothers and put that in DH.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 15:53:21

Geez, thats a little ridiculous. Now, if WB had decided that theyd make DH one really long film with an intermission, it would be really cool to film the Tales and put them up during the intermission. But seeing as there will be no intermission, I think that Tales of Beetle the Bard is an adorable book of fairy tales and all, but a film of all of them would be utterly ridiculous. Next theres going to be a report from Disney saying that theyre going to make "The Fountain of Fair Fortune" into their own film, and THAT would be one messed up thing.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 21:23:13

Um, riiiiiiiight. Thats got to be a rumour, it just seems too ridiculous to be true.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 04:27:32

sorry, but thats rediculous. the best thing about beedle is the notes. just, no. thats dumb. it wont work, sorry. I loved the book yeah. but movie? no. just no. stop trying the milk it for all its worth WB. jeez

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 06:10:17

Ooh, no. I dont like it. Maybe Tale of the Three Brothers at the beginning of part 1 of DH, MAYBE!!! I say NAY.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 08:09:54

Oh yes please! :D:D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-13 14:41:30

cause eight harry potter films isnt enough... O_o

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-13 15:09:18

nah, i dont think they should make it a movie. thats kind of weak. it would be cool if they made like little cartoons of it though, or like shorts. you know, like that little short animation that came on before bugs life? if somebody did something small like that and put it on the internet or something, that would be cool. but a movie? no.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-14 12:15:57

This isnt a bad idea, I kinda like it. But only some of them would be good if they were made into a movie. Like the Warlocks Hairy Heart would be pretty good.
