The Telegraph is reporting that JK Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard has become the fastest selling book of 2008:
The Tales of Beedle the Bard – mentioned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the latest book in wizard boy series – sold 367,625 copies in the first three days after publication on December 4.
Next on the list was Guinness World Records 2008, which sold 73,000 over the same time period, according to market analysts Nielsen BookScan.
Philip Stone, charts editor at The Bookseller magazine, commented: "None of the other big releases managed to get near the sales figure for Beedle the Bard. I would be very surprised if it is not Christmas number one, but it's not a dead cert."
Congratulations, Jo!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 15:48:36
Anything by JKR sells... really...
Beedle the Bard > Breaking Dawn, haha, in terms of fastest selling, anyway. It could just be because people need to buy it for Christmas. BD sucked anyway, a lot of my friends just waited for the libraries to get it.

Yay! Thats really great for the charity J.K. Rowling is supporting. Im happy for her, and of course its a great thing for the fandom. Oh, and of course, its always great to hear Harry Potter is just plain better than the Twilight series in all aspects (in regards to Beedle beating out Breaking Dawn in terms of how fast it sold...).

|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 19:17:21
Haha thats funny- a book that probably took all of 2 days for Jo to write beat something that took Stephanie Meyer many months to write. Just goes to show you which book series is better! Yay Jo!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 19:37:07
Yay! Beedle was awesome! I hope people have realized by now the popularity of Potter IS NOT a temporary kids/teen bandwagon thing *liketwilightiscoughcough *. With that many HP lovers Im surprised I dont personally know more of them in my area. :( But yay for Beedle the Bard! PS. I saw someone refer to it as "beetle" the other day. LOL!

What? I thought Breaking Dawn sold way more.
Hey, all you Twilight haters shut up. It is possible to like Twilight and Harry Potter at the same time. What is it with this immature "Na na na na boo boo" stuff? Grow up, for Gods sake, its not a competition.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 20:18:28
I thought that sounded pretty low. I wonder how many sold in the U.S. I had no idea so many HP fans disliked the Twilight series. I got my collectors edition in the mail today, and was very excited, havent had a chance to read anything but the first part by Jo though.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 20:21:56
yay!!!! harry potter will always dominate!!! i like twilight, but it doesnt hold a candle to harry.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 20:45:49
Ahahaha! It beat that stupid twilight book. Take that smeyer. Harry Potter will always be number one!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 21:55:11
You twilight fans are the ones who need to grow up. Always comparing Harry Potter with Twilight. Cant you guys stand by yourselves?!
Harry Potter is the best and will live for ever and ever - i think that is more than proved.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 22:46:06
YAY!!! It beat Breaking dawn!!!! Stupid twilight!!! I dont want to hear them saying another word about it. I mean, BTB was very short and BD was supposed to end the twilight and yet Beedle beat it!! GOO HARRY POTTER!! WOHOOO!!! Take that twilight!!! Congrats Jo!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 22:49:33
er, hate to burst your bubble guys, but those arent exactly right.
i think that it may be talking about the UK, cos breaking dawn sold 1.3 million copies in the first 24 hours. so its not quite easy to compare the two..
dont get me wrong, im a fan of twilight and harry potter, im also a fan of skulduggery pleasant, darren shan, demonata, and many more..
what is with this never ending battle? so sick of it.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-09 23:09:43
Twilights all right and all... but Im very glad that Beedle the Bard won this :D. Harry Potter is the best, simple as that.

You all realize Mugglenet failed to put in the headline that this was according to the U.K. ONLY, not USA. Breaking Dawn sold 1.3million in 24hrs so these numbers arent really comparable. Im not taking sides because I do enjoy both series, but Mugglenet needs to make sure its headlines tell the facts, Leaky News got it right.

Yay! I honestly didnt expect so many people to buy it. I mean, I knew itd be a big seller, but nowhere near the actual Harry Potter books. I havent read it yet because my mom bought the special edition for me for Christmas and refuses to let me read it. ):
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 09:37:16
Twilight isnt as popular in the UK... obviously it didnt outshine HP there. But Breaking Dawn killed Beedle in sales. It sold more than ten times the amount of Beedle, and only in 1 day.
And Im not sure if you remember, but Breaking Dawn knocked Harry Potter 7 off the Top 10 Bestsellers list way back in 2007.
Im a fan of both, and I like them equally, but get your facts straight.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 18:47:00
its only for UK. and? its only for uk to both, so its fair. HP > twilight
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-10 20:59:20
Id just like to point out that the HP Fandom didnt make this a competition. The media played a huge role but, for the most part, the Twi-Hards were the ones picking the fight ("Harry who?!" "The next JK Rowling!" Edward would soOoOo kick Harrys butt! And hes hotter!" Yeah. Dont deny it.) So sorry to irk you, but honestly, if you cant take what you dish out...
Disclaimer: Twilight had me for a little while (hey, Im a sucker for romance [though it never came near my beloved HP)], but Stephenie Meyer dropped me off the highest cliff with Breaking Fail er, Dawn. The first three stories were compelling and imaginative, no doubt about that. But were all just arguing semantics here.
And yet, though its all subjective when it comes to what you like, in terms of literary prowes........do I even need to say which author takes the cake?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-12 16:42:07
Has it occurred to you which author is from the U.K.... and which is from the USA?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2008-12-12 21:39:04
aww i am so proud. even though i havent bought it yet :-X
