Broadway.com has published their annual Year End Wrap-Up, and the Potter and Equus lead takes their Star of the Year. The award was chosen by the site's readers:
Told of his big win, the charming young Harry Potter star said, “That’s really, really amazing! The Broadway community has been incredibly welcoming and this sort of sums it up, really. In a year when there have been some really big performances on Broadway, to have been nominated and win is really, really cool!”
In related news, a re-run from his August appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien airs tonight at 12:35 AM on NBC. Thanks to Ali for the tip!

Not to rain on this parade but it says the award was chosen by the sites readers. Now Im not saying that Harry Potter fans regularly go over to Broadway.com and browse around, but I think there is a good possibility that some Potter fans did find there way over to the site just to make a vote for Ratcliffe.
It speaks more to the popularity that Harry Potter still has across the world and in the USA probably more than it has to do with his performance on stage.

riddleisourking, maybe you dont know about this, bu since Dan is acting on Broadway he has a lot of theater fans now. If you visit some theater lovers forums youll see everyone loves Daniel and respect him, and a lot of people think he deserves a Tony nomination for his work in Equus. So this award is totally deserved, because of his fantastic performance in Equus, his dedication to everyone who went to see the play signing autographs every night, his help with Broadway fundraisers, his participation in Gypsy of the Year competition... he has really been a big part of Broadway this year.

No offense to his performance on Eqqus, but I never did care for it from the previews & pictures I saw, but apart from that, he is one brilliant actor. Im really happy for him!

I witnessed Dans performance on stage last Saturday and I found it to be brilliant. He evoked a self examination of individual passions and beliefs.

I saw EQUUS and thought that it was brilliant! He really deserves that award becouse he is an amazing ang truly talented actor. In my opinion, he should preform theater more becouse that is his calling.

I saw Equus in November and was absolutely blown away by his performance. He has really shown what hes made of by doing this play! It really was AWESOME! Plus, I got to speak with him afterwards and he was the NICEST guy! YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE HIM!!!!

I stand by my original comment. Im not saying it wasnt deserved or that I dislike him or that he isnt a hard worker. I just stated that his insane fame prior to going to broadway certainly didnt hurt his chances to win a "fan" voted award.
That being said, a fan award is a bigger deal in my eyes than if the critics were to give him an award. After all, it should be the fans that matter and not some stuffy critics. But I still totally stand behind my first comment. Good day.
