Jones will return to voice Dobby in Deathly Hallows
Jones will return to voice Dobby in Deathly Hallows The Telegraph is reporting today that Toby Jones will return to voice Dobby the House-Elf in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The article notes that "he'll soon be back in the recording studio for the next Harry Potter."

This is great news considering we last saw Dobby all the way back in Chamber of Secrets. Filming for the final installment in the series begins this February.

Thanks to Sarah for passing this along!

YES!!!!!!! THEY ARE BRINGING DOBY BACK!! THANK GOD!

Posted by luna_loveevil Jan 9th 2009

YAY! Dobby!!!

Posted by Firebolt1 Jan 9th 2009

Go Dobby! you're the best house elf a wizard could ever wish for!! :)

Posted by citylove3583 Jan 9th 2009

YAY!!!! DOBBY IS COMING BACK!!! :D !!!

Posted by Lyra_Asya Jan 9th 2009

OMP (Oh my pig) I am sooooo happy COS was my favorite movie and It's been terrible that dobby has been missing lately so I am thrilled!!!!! GOOO DOOOO BBBBBYYYY

Posted by cerindigo Jan 9th 2009

I am so relieved that Dobby will be in DH. I really miss him, and his death is so sad...I just love him.

Posted by Candie Jan 9th 2009

Finally WB did something right... Now how about releasing HBP already!!!

Posted by Ravenxl7 Jan 9th 2009

That's really good news. Hopefully the guy who voiced Kreacher also comes back. I'm not sure if he was singed on for HBP or not. Would be nice to have both house elves appear for their parts in the last two movies, depending on where they split the movies. Hopefully this means we'll actually see Shell Cottage, and the imprisonment and escape from the Malfoy's Manor will be similar, if not exactly the same in the book.

Posted by Abergoat Jan 9th 2009

I personally didn't like Dobby in Chamber of Secrets, but it's great that he'll be back, and with the same voice actor for continuity.

Posted by MadEye_Moody Jan 9th 2009

YESSS!! Dobby will be in DH! I am SO happy about this...I was getting a bit worried they weren't going to have him in there when his death is the saddest one in the series!

Posted by slytherin_vix_88 Jan 9th 2009

aaah i heart Dobby! it's gonna be so sad when he dies... I hope they leave in the scene when Harry has the funeral for him, that made me cry... long live Dobby!

Posted by a3e1o1 Jan 9th 2009

I'm really hoping this isn't just a cruel rumor, or it doesn't get cut. Nowadays I'm expecting all of my favorite scenes to get cut (Ex: Dumbledor's funeral anyone!?0

Posted by KikiPotter Jan 9th 2009

Well it's about bloody time!!! If they had cut this out...oh I don't know what I'd do. I really do not like this dirctor. Why couldn't we get somebody like Columbus back? And why isn't JKR standing up for us and saying enough is enough?! Why?

Posted by slytherin_vix_88 Jan 9th 2009

thats terrible, thats one of the most memorable parts of the book! i realise it sounds like i have some morbid obsession with funerals (ie, dobby also), but they are parts of the books that make the fact that people who harry love actually do die quite real

Posted by Mr0llivand3r Jan 9th 2009

that's gonna be pretty sad, but thank God Dobby is back in it and the same person is playing his voice. at least it's one thing WB didn't screw uo

Posted by Erfa Jan 9th 2009

If they do Dobby's return properly, it could be one of the most epic moments I've ever experienced in a film. If they don't, it will make the film so much worse. I think a lot of Deathly Hallows' success as a film (or two) depends on Dobby's scene(s).

Posted by Lyra_Asya Jan 9th 2009

I loved Columbus but Yates is my second favorite--I hope he does dobby justice... it will be sooooooooooooooooo sad when he dies

Posted by Mattuk Jan 9th 2009

While it is good that theyre bringing him back, if they are, of course, to me, Dobby in the films doesnt really serve a purpose when compared to the books. What made his death so impactful in the book was the relationship that he and Harry had built over the series. Then having him die was one of the saddest moments because we'd seen this friendship grow and seen Dobby grow as a character. There is nothing like that in the films, so it wouldnt really feel the same.

Posted by SproutMdme Jan 9th 2009

I think that ending the first of the two movies around or near Dobby's death might be a good place to break, as it's dramatic, it's heart-wrenching, and would emphasis the seriousness of what the trio are about to embark on in the final half. Anyway, it's absolutely wonderful that Dobby will be back in the last few movies...he's really one of the best characters Jo created! I'm getting so excited I can hardly contain myself!!!

Posted by sillyme Jan 9th 2009

yess dobby my lover is back! he will be amazing in movie seven. i know it, i just know it.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Jan 9th 2009

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SERIOUSLY JUST MADE MY WHOLE FREAKIN' DAY!!!!! YES!!!!! I really really really hope it's true and not just some tabloid rumor!!! PLEASE be true!!!!!!! *fingers crossed*

Posted by necro008 Jan 9th 2009

I have to admit, It's about TIME. We've been waiting since film 4 for Dobby. Hopefully they'll have a few extra scenes with dobby only, just to give his ending more impact. Fingers Crossed!!

Posted by G_wizzle Jan 9th 2009

Omg I cried sooo much when he died especially when harry was digging his grave. Does anyone agree that Dobby looks like the russian prime minister vladimir putin?

Posted by phoenixknighter Jan 9th 2009

DON'T GET ALL EXCITED GUYS! REMEMBER! DOBBY IS IN THE MALFOY MANOR CHAPTER ONLY, AND THAT IS GOING TO BE PART 2 IN DEATHLY HALLOWS... SO WE WON'T SEE DOBBY AT ALL IN THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1

Posted by FantasyWriterVB Jan 9th 2009

That's wonderful! I loved the voice of Dobby in Chamber of Secrets!! He was perfect for Dobby. For a while there, I was afraid they weren't even going to put Dobby in. They've replaced him with Neville so many times, I was afraid that they were going to make him be the one to rescue the trio from Malfoy Manor. They wouldn't have killed him, of course! This just made my day!

Posted by phoenixknighter Jan 9th 2009

KikiPotter , JKR LOVES THE HP MOVIES! And OOTP is Her favorite! So she has nothing to complain about.. It's not ALWAYS about you, you know?

Posted by stellathemuggle Jan 9th 2009

Exactly, Mattuk. People who only watch the films will see it as sad, because Dobby is cute and nothing more than that to them; unlike the fans who will know Harry and Dobby's relationship which makes his death extremely sad. I think they won't make too much of a fuss over his death, unfortunately, because I think it's a real defining moment for Harry when he realises a lot of things that help him make his next decision. Harry learns how to block out Voldemort, and finally realises what Dumbledore was trying to tell him to do. They probably will just use it as a sad death, rather than a defining moment. But I'm very glad they're keeping him in! I was terrified they would cut him, for the reasons I mentioned above.

Posted by hplvr92 Jan 9th 2009

Oh I'm so relieved. I figured they'd cut out Dobby's scene because you can easily do it with something else, and skip his death all together. I'm so so so so so glad that they're keeping him. I'm thinking that they're going to end the series right, or as close to the books as possible. THANK YOU!!!

Posted by scurvy_cur Jan 9th 2009

Awooohooo! so happy they really cant cut Dobby's appearance in DH, it was so important in so many ways and...well...i love that little guy!

Posted by scurvy_cur Jan 9th 2009

oh and G_wizzle - i totally agree about the Putin thing! I only noticed it tho coz Stephen Fry mentioned it on QI, apparently someone had told Putin he looked like Dobby anf for some unknown reason he was annoyed! ;)

Posted by alexxx Jan 9th 2009

well yay! i'm also pleased that Dobby is gonna be back in the movie. It seems like something WB would do to cut him out. gerrrr them

Posted by The_Oddball Jan 9th 2009

Ahhh This February... Once they finish it's the end of an era. I think I'm gonna cry....

Posted by Godric_83 Jan 9th 2009

YAY DOBBBY!!!!!! nice to have him back!

Posted by DeathlyH Jan 9th 2009

YES!!! Dobby is the best.

Posted by txRABbit Jan 9th 2009

While Dobby's inclusion is a good thing for the film, the fact that they had left him out of POA, GOB, OotP, and HBP will lessen the dramatic impact of his death. Probably the biggest dramatic reation from a non-book knowledged viewer will bethe deaths of Mad_eye, Hedwig, and Fred Weasley....with possibly Tonks and Lupin....if indeed they do decide to kill them off in the films. Dobby's, Fred's and for some reason Colin Creevey's deaths got to me the most in the books.

Posted by chommy Jan 9th 2009

Meh, it won't be the same. If in the books, Dobby was only in the 2nd and last books, his death wouldn't be so great. I thought it was cute the way he idolized Harry in 4, 5, and 6, which is why I love him. It won't be the same in the movie, although I guess it WOULD be sad that he and Harry finally meet after 5 years and he dies.

Posted by phoenixknighter Jan 9th 2009

You guys DO know that COS almost became banned in Russia because Vladimir Putin thought the movie ridiculed him (Dobby's face) I'm thinking Deathly Hallows is going to be another banned HP movie there, ROFL!

Posted by tovarbaker Jan 9th 2009

yeah! it is good to know that DH will have some continuity. and to the guy who said that the HP movies left Dobby of of POA I suggest you go back and reread that book man cause he is not in it. granted he doesn't appear in the the other films where he does appear in the books, but frankly he was an non essential character in the other books. in DH he is freaking important

Posted by TonksTheTiger Jan 9th 2009

YES!!! I was SO afraid they wouldn't bring Dobby back!! OMG I'm SO HAPPY! :D

Posted by Ravenclaw33 Jan 9th 2009

YYYYYYYYyEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am so happy! dobby is my favorute! i thought for a while that dobby wouldn't return!

Posted by Kranendonky Jan 9th 2009

YAY!!! Although this is the 1 thing i wouldnt mind if they cut. It would save me ALOT of tears. I Hope that Dobby looks exactly like in the COS just in proper clothes. Cause remember that in Number 5 The Dementors look completely different to in number 3? I liked the looks of the dementors in number 3 better.

Posted by Lyra_Asya Jan 9th 2009

agreed. the dementors were demented (lol) in 5. also what was up with that veil? it looks like mist or something

Posted by bluedragoongal_442 Jan 9th 2009

I didn't know COS was banned anywhere, thats really interesting. An its sad that we only will probably see Dobby for about 10 minutes before his death but atleast they didn't cut him out, that would have screwed up a huge part of the plot because Harry does most of his path-choseing while he digs Dobby's grave

Posted by sunflower435 Jan 9th 2009

oh thank god...i was so worried they were going to cut dobby, and i love him. although i'll probably be a crying mess during his death scene. i suppose with 2 movies, there's a lot more room for WB to include the smaller things.

Posted by AliciaJonae05 Jan 9th 2009

Yay! :)

Posted by i_am_hermione Jan 9th 2009

oh, good! I mean, it didn't even occur to me that they might not include Dobby, but I'm certainly glad they didn't get rid of him! Also, why is there an ad for the caption contest on the side of the page when the caption contest is 'postponed indefinitely'? I got all excited when I saw the ad, I was like, 'Great! it's back on!' and then it wasn't. Hmm. Maybe they're going to update it again soon.

Posted by txRABbit Jan 9th 2009

To tovarbaker: while yes, Dobby does nopt appear in the book POA, I suggest you reread my post andthe post afterward. It has to do with dramatic impact of his death in the film. Try some comprehension next time than being a nit-picking little nit.

Posted by Slytherin15 Jan 9th 2009

DOBBY!

Posted by MaiceyMay Jan 9th 2009

YES!!!!!! im so happy now!!! I thought they would cut dobby out forsure! ILYDOBBY!!!

Posted by HermyHarry Jan 9th 2009

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Though its is sad that they have to do his death. At least he wont be forgotten. and i hope its as beautiful as the book. i love wat harry writes on the gravestone. and how he digs by hand. GO DOBBY!!!
