The Daily Mail recently conducted a new interview with Robert Hardy, the actor who plays Cornelius Fudge in the Potter series. In it, the 83-year-old discusses his role as the Minister for Magic, his working with Robbie Coltrane, Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith, as well as how he learned three times over that Fudge would not return for Half-Blood Prince. "I loved my time as Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic, but my character has now been erased! I knew it would happen, because he's quite a good part in the book, but there was no way they were ever going to fit everything into one film." He also joked about his age causing an insurance nightmare on set: "The insurers for the Harry Potter films were insuring me for a massive amount of money and being extra reluctant about it. I could almost hear them saying, 'Is he worth it? He's broken most of his bones, he's had cancer and he might drop dead at any moment!'" Thanks to TLC for the tip!

First!! I had no idea he was 83!!! I wanted to see Fudge in HBP! They didnt have to take him out!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 10:51:46

wow i had no idea he was that old... he was a great fudge

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:02:12

I know! He was perfect as Fudge!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:06:31

Yeah, really.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:06:54

OMG hes 83?! He looks so much younger than that! He looks younger than Michael Gambon.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:07:56

Speaking of Michael Gambon, how old is he?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:09:21

Wow, 83? Im surprised hes that old, he doesnt look that old... I really wanted to see Fudge go down in HBP (like he deserves) :-/ thats annoying that they took him out... and no Scrimgeour either... *sigh*

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:11:31

Wait...What??? No Scrimgeour?!?!?!?!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:45:49

I guess the opening scene with the New Minister is out. Man, that was a great start to the book.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:47:36

Awww! Poor guy. Good thing hes so likeable.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 11:50:07

Wow. he sure doesnt look 83! XD

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 12:42:09

he was a perfect Fudge! well, i hope he doesnt drop dead at any moment! :P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 12:48:36

Fia : Gambon is 68

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:14:08

Thank you, alexxx! :) He looks older, and Micheal looks younger than him! Wow...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:19:12

YEah i like him too, but just like what it said in the OOTP "Minister to Resign" was really the end of Cornelius Fudge... hes not even MENTIONED in DH! Plus the HBP has a better beginning with the Bridge attack, Diagon Alley kidnapping, and Harry flirting with a waitress.. Thats all so much better than the Other Ministers chapter.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:21:06

I meant that Robert looks younger than Gambon. I agree, surprisingly, phoenixknighter. Usually I dont agree with taking stuff out of the books and adding something new, but this I can live with! :P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:23:46

Yeah Fia , i have sooooo much HIGH expectations for HBP, its not even funny! Im raising the bar even more than i did with the Dark Knight.. cuz we ve had to wait for 2 years which feels like 4 years.. and hearing the things Yates had cut and added seemed so cool+-

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:33:53

Oh my gosh, he looks AWESOME for 83! I hope I look half as good at his age!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:35:19

I had no idea he was 83!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:36:36

I have high hopes, too! The trailers look great... I mean, after seeing what they did with the best non-HP movie ever (TDK), surely we have the right to hope for a good/great/awesome Harry Potter movie? Right?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:41:47

Yeah, and i have to say as far as the unspoiled fans go, im the most spoiled.. Ive read some leaked scripts of the Quidditch scenes, the Attack on the Burrow, Tom Riddle and the Horcrux, and some others. So i can pretty much tell you what will and wont be in the film. I think i should even combine all the scripts, clips and pics by Spring and make my own HBP movie, lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:42:42

darn! Tony Blair is cut....

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:44:35

Whered you find the leaked scripts? I think I need to read those! ;) Id love to see your version of the HBP movie, especially if this one is an epic fail! Lets pray that its not!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:46:38

well just go to google and type Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince leaked scripts.. well i thought Yates did a marvelous job in OOTP, and i know hell do better in this one.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 13:49:26

I found a leaked script! Me loves it! ;)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:01:37

cool, which one was it?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:08:38

Ummm... the Joke Shop, Burrow attack, Quidditch, Hogwarts before the attack, cave scene... I was in heaven!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:11:27

I know that Fudge in the book look like a person who knows all, but in the movie I will like to see him had some part because we can see that mistakes will hurt you at the end.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:13:59

I also read the Three Broomsticks scene! Does it mean that theyre doing the Katie Bell scene? Because in the scene it mentions her leaving the three broomsticks with Leanne close behind... But then I hear people saying that the necklace will be given to Cho... Im so confused!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:30:33

Fia no itll be Katie, and she looks Hot too! ;) Cho Chang is only in the movie for 2 things: It was kinda sad how they broke up in OOTP because she was veritaserumed, so she and Harry need to make up for that. And Cho is also in this so that the audience will realize that Harry has gotten over her and is now for Ginny

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:35:10

oh you gotta read the Pensieve script on the Horcrux.. theres a fake one (Slughorn altered) and the real one (where Harry learns about the Horcrux) Im trying to look for that, cuz i saw it a couple months ago.. That was the best script of the movie i ever read! It really got all dark Immediately, and u KNEW from then on, it was SERIOUS business with the Half-Blood Prince and Horcruxes

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:35:18

Ok! That clears things up! Thanks!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:40:59

yeah and last but NOT least.. here is the script for the two Horcrux scenes.. not including the Orphanage... im GLAD cuz i wanted that to be a suprise! http://www.thebadandugly. com/2008/08/18/half-blood -script-sections-leak/

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:43:22

I FOUND IT ON GOOGLE AND OMG!!! THEY! DO! DUMBLEDORES! DAMAGED! HAND! AND! THE! HORCRUX! MEMORY! *SCREAMS* O!M!G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! THIS! LOOKS! AMAZING!! WHY? ISNT? IT? JULY? YET??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? !?!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:53:19

idk... Some of the people here whore wondering what scenes will be in and stuff, ALL they have to do is go find leaked scripts, its easy and it relieves the stress in thinking how good the movie will be. Anyway that scene was brlliant! They even included Nagini, the Gaunts, and Hepzibah Smith, all in quick 30 second flashback visions as Harry touched the ring.. so its very cool the way Yates directed it, instead of including ALL 6 memorys

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 14:59:24

and you can also tell that Deathly Hallows has influenced this script like Steve Kloves and David Yates said.. after Harry touches the ring.. he grips his chest as he spams, then DD touches his chest to calm him. It wasnt in the book, but it forshadows that Harry IS the 7th Horcrux.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 15:05:52

So true! So technically, they are revealing something about DH! :) I remember, back before DH came out, my cousin and I would talk for hours about horcruxes... We always brushed the topis of Harry being a horcrux but then dismissed it as ridiculus and far-fetched. But now, reading the book, it makes sense... I just need the movie to come out now! And I really want to read DH again...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 15:13:43

152 days... I can wait 152 days.... Maybe longer, seeing as how Ill be on a plane and then a tiny island for a few days after the release of Harry Potter... so... 156 days at the most? Gah!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 16:24:09

83? Are you serious? He wasnt even in HBP and wasnt in DH... from memory. So does it really matter if he isnt in the movies?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 16:54:16

Hes 83 ?!?! No wy he dont look it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 17:00:04

Guys youre giving the whole plot away ... I dont mond but some people might

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 17:59:16

aww mann

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 18:37:48

OMG!!! i cant believe this guy is 83!!!!! and it really is no big deal that he isnt in HBP although i was really looking forward to "the other minister" too. whoever said the he was out at the end of OotP i agree with...the "paper" at the end referred to his resignation. guess ill just re-read the book again for the 1st chapter. thanx for the tip about the leaked scripts. still waiting for that web page to load...... trying...really....hard.. .not....to...peek.....but ...i....cant....help...m yself!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 21:48:06

Why is he fussing about his age? Isnt Maggie Smith older? And she had cancer too. Maybe they will have a picture of him in the Daily Prophet. They never said what happened to him after he resigned. He stayed on as a consultant, but that was it. I was hoping he would have shown in the final battle at Hogwarts.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 21:56:13

What are you talking aobut merrymarge ??? theres no FUDGE in DH, hes not even mentioned.. Oh and to everyone who found the leaked HBP scripts... youre welcome.. im glad I saved you the worry of what theyll put and not put in some of the scenes :) Maybe thats why Im soo optimistic of this movie, lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 22:01:13

I agree! Im loads more optimistic now!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-14 22:49:28

WHA..?!! 83?!! Gosh! wads ur secret to ur success? u look so much younger than gambon! hahaha. and its sad tt he doesnt need to be in the act anymre cus they effing took out the 1st chap of DH..ha!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 10:42:51

Fudge isnt in DH... He makes a brief appearance in HBP, but not in DH. And as for the new minister, if they talk about him, theres no need to cast him, right? But... There is the scene when he talks to the Trio about Dumbledores Will. What will they do for that, I wonder?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 13:04:19

Theyll put him in DH of course, but itll be sad he only has ONE scene before he dies, lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 13:29:41

LOL

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 14:49:44

Thats quite annoying that he isnt going to be in HBP.. I love the opening scene with he and the Prime Minister.. he couldnt return for that ONE little five minute scene?! I think that would be brilliant to watch unfold! Its the reminder that this is suppose to be happening in OUR world, the muggle world, as well, not just in this make-believe place. Thats really upsetting..

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 16:37:19

They will burn in hell for removing the coolest character in the series from the movie.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-15 17:50:12

Lets not get overly dramatic, okay, Baphomet? No one is going to burn in Hell.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-02-16 11:51:56

It is sad that Fudge wont be there but I guess they made that clear by having him resign at the end of OotP rather than having him fired later on (if memory serves me correctly). Surely they have to have Scrimgeour?? Good to read that theyve included a lot more stuff than originally thought but shame about the spoilage.....!
