Wizarding World to receive special snow effects?
Wizarding World to receive special snow effects? The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Universal Studios has hired SnowMasters, a company specializing in "fake snow-making machines and offers everything from blowing snow to ground blankets to faux icicles," for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.

Early concept art depicted Hogsmeade covered in snow. Will we see other cool winter-esque effects around the village?

Would we have snow at Halloween, too? And even in the summer? It doesn't always snow the first of September, either.

Posted by Pingypong101 Apr 6th 2009

Fake snow? Ah, that will be so cool on a hot day... It would be weird, but awesome. O____o

Posted by usha88 Apr 6th 2009

seems interesting, but hmmm..how much snow? hopefully they wouldn't' be using it all the time, seems like a bit of a waste.

Posted by wiltabone Apr 6th 2009

At last I could experience snow :D

Posted by emmy668 Apr 6th 2009

I really don't think they need snow, that would make it seem more fake. I mean, it doesn't snow year round! Although it sort of does in the movies...but I guess that's movie magic! ~_^

Posted by Ganger345 Apr 6th 2009

I think that would be kinda cool, and make sense because whenever we see Hogsmade its alomost always snowy, and in the books/movies the students see it snowy most of the time as well.

Posted by MaybeDavey Apr 6th 2009

the idea is awesome and im sure the snow would only be used in the winter/fall time but it would be cooler the dome the whole thing and make it the weather controled xDDD

Posted by ClosetPotterFan Apr 6th 2009

For as HOT as it gets here in Florida (where it never snows) ... It will be nice and a true fantasy. I am pretty sure they wont have it blowing all the time, but the fake snow and icicles on rooftops will be nice.

Posted by adriennecray Apr 6th 2009

It sounds wasteful and hazardous to the environment. But if it's not, then it sounds cool.

Posted by tonks654 Apr 6th 2009

it sortof seems like a waste, sure maybe once or twice a week... like its the special thing on thursays or whatever, but everyday, all the time is a little excessive, but it would be really cool though too, Christmas in July!!!!

Posted by Alice_Twilight Apr 6th 2009

oooooooooo, that would be just lovely!

Posted by i_am_hermione Apr 6th 2009

that sounds sort of neat, (neat, what a stupid word. swell! the bee's knees!) but what is fake snow made of? would it be bad for the environment? could be cool though.

Posted by i_am_hermione Apr 6th 2009

well, if anyone was wondering, I looked up how fake snow is made and found a company based in Orlando. there are numerous types of fake snow, and a few of them claim to be environmentally friendly, made of cellulose or otherwise biodegradable. others, including one that the site specifically states that was used in the 'Harry Potter' films, (because it 'falls so beautifully') are made of plastic.

Seems cool, but wasting.. How much energy would it take? Probably lots.. Anyway, it's "just" 100 days until HBP now!!

Posted by Pingypong101 Apr 6th 2009

I heard that snow is normally made of potato shavings in movies... O.o Of course, I'm probably wrong. I mean, who wouldn't want to run through Hogsmeade and get pelted with little bits of potato? xD

Posted by heather_s_70056 Apr 6th 2009

Yeah, I remember thinking it looked strange in the concept art for there to be snow on the ground, but the visitors were in shorts. I think it would be fun for them to do it during winter months, but not all year round. You're right, evanna11, 100 days! I didn't realize until you pointed it out. Now I'm all excited again!

Posted by SaraLovesNeville Apr 6th 2009

I think this looks pretty freaking sweet and Pingypong101, I for one would love to be "pelted with little bits of potato!" :)

Fake snow?! I go to Florida to escape the real stuff! The HP world does not sound that interesting if all it is is going through a miniature Hogsmeade and Hagrid's hut. Where are the rides? Is there going to be a Gringott's roller coaster? a thestral ride around the park? a broom stick ride (with a bicycle seat hopfully!) with a Hungarian Horntale chasing you...the mind reels at the possibilities, yet I haven't heard anything to actually DO except that the HP world took over Fire and Ice roller coasters. Any news/rumours on stuff to actually do while there?

Posted by wumples Apr 6th 2009

HeRonfan, as far as rides go not much has been announced as I'm sure things still have to be finalized. I sincerely doubt there will be a Gringotts themed ride because it isn't coherent with the theme (Gringotts is in Diagon Alley, not Hogsmeade!) I think we all need to remember that some of the 'ideas' that are being thrown out there for rides are not very practical. However, there are rumors going around that there will be a very large ride underneath the Hogwarts structure that will utilize similar technology as the Adventures of Spiderman ride in Islands of Adventure, and will include scenes such as the Chamber of Secrets.

Posted by HeRonfan Apr 6th 2009

Yes, but Hagrid's hut is not in Hogsmeade either and they are building that, so they can do whatever they want in the Wizarding World of HP, can't they? They could do a drop zone into the Death Chamber from the movie OOP. That would be fun.

Posted by heather_s_70056 Apr 6th 2009

Um. . . HeRonfan, Hagrid's Hut is on the Castle grounds and since the castle is going to be a primary attraction, Hagrid's hut is probably near there. But I do think it would be awesome to do a Gringotts ride, maybe they will do a chamber of secrets ride instead. Just because they haven't mentioned rides yet, doesn't mean that there aren't going to be any.

Um, this is FLORIDA right?? I don' know about this fake snow thing. Maybe for the winter months, but I think walking around in the summer with fake snow will be a little off...

Posted by muggleinNM Apr 6th 2009

This could be very awesome, or way too expensive and not worth it. Which is why we all need to go in July to show that it is worth it! Funny though, they would probably be selling these beach towels at the attraction. Haha. I am getting so excited for that summer, I'll be turning 21 then! What an awesome summer.

Posted by SnapyWapy Apr 7th 2009

It sounds so great. My biggest wish is to walk througt a Hogsmead winterland

Posted by krazykobra29 Apr 7th 2009

i live in FL that would be kinda cool all year round!! but it would take alot of work tho to keep it from melting during the summer... 100 more days til HBP!!!

WHOA, They are getting rid of the Fire and Ice Roller coasters for the HP world?! That will make the entire place WAAAAAAY bigger! And I think that they are building some sort of attraction in the Hogwart's castle, I went there last summer and there was this brown track being built around the layout of a rather large building (Which I think was Hogwarts) and it weaved in and out of the layout. http://www.wizardingworld harrypotter.com/wp-conten t/uploads/2008/16/hogwart s.jpg AH HA! There's the track! Not sure if it's for a rollercoaster or 3D ride or both, though... I think it's for the HP world though, it was behind the giant fence they used to cover up everything... And considering how tall the fence was, and that I could still see a lot of that ride... It makes a lot of sense for it to be part of the castle.

Posted by DarkMark_5 Apr 7th 2009

Sounds cool. Snow makes it seem more magical, plus in all of the HP films so far their is a scene with snow in it

Posted by DarkMark_5 Apr 7th 2009

Does anyone know if they are going to do the room of requirement???

Posted by General_Martok Apr 12th 2009

Orlando in the summer is HOT and the humidity is so think, you can cut it. I hope they don't try to have the snow on display then. It would just look stupid with everyone in shorts and t shirts soaked with sweat in the snow.
