Hey, I am doing a production of equus myself in Australia and i think that dan will be perfect for the role of Alan Strang. The guy who is playing it in our production shares so many similarities 2 dan it is not funny. It is a really really good play and it will give dan the chance 2 play the character with the utmost intensity possible. I honestly don't think he will be nude. The play works very very well without nudity and i think with dan's popularity they wouldn't make him go nude because it would attract 2 many teenage girls who would ruin the intensity of the moments in question.

Depending on whether Dan does the part nude or not, this play could make or break his career.

I agree with Fortunata. If he does it without nudity & he's good, it will make him. If he goes nude at 17, it will be the end of his mainstream career. It's not the nudity that's the controversy. It's his age and the fact that he is still playing Harry. If his performance is awful, his career is over either way. Huge gamble. And plays are much more difficult than film. Just look at the horrible reviews for Julia Roberts on Broadway. And she's an Oscar winner!

This play won't break Dan's career. On the contrary. He's still young and he's in the midst of doing Harry Potter which are sure blockbusters. Even if the critics kill him for this play, he'd still come out a winner. First, the role is very juicy. It can rival many of the complicated characters that have ever graced the movie screen. How many actors can boast of having a role like this on their resume? Second, the act of accepting this role will signal that Dan is ready to be a serious actor. The fact that he is wiling to go nude and do those bestial acts and whatever else is required for this role is an indication of his commitment to acting. The overcritical can question his performance but even they will acknowledge that Dan is no diva to balk at delicate scenes and will do it for artistic purposes. Third, even if this play won't be a critical success, it will be good for Dan's career path. He will be offered more serious roles in the future. And not only teen movies, but the good ones. And Not only after doing the HP series but Now, while he's doing it.

Actors do get fired for doing things deemed improper, if they are in situations that set them up as role models for children. If there is a morality clause, he could be fired. I'm not saying yea or nay to the play or nudity. Just stating a fact that children's movies often have morality clauses that extend to the what goes on in the actor's life, career, etc. Stuido's do it becuase they don't want a horde of angry parents boycotting their product for whatever reason. A girl just got fired from a PBS program for children called sprouts because PBS found out about a 30 second bit where she makes fun of abstinence or something like that. It does happen in real life. So I still think this may be Dan Radcliffe's exit strategy from HP. I hope not, cause I can't imagine anyone else doing it, but there you have it.

If I was Dan's mother(and I'm old enough to be!) I would be greatly concerned about my baby boy, my only child, appearing nude onstage at the tender age of 17. I realize that in England people are considered adults at this age but not here in the States. I sincerely hope that both Dan and his parents have thoroughly thought this through. Oh! I've heard this play is fantastic. It's good to see him taking a role like this, and doing a stage production. I heart all things stage. People need to chill on the nude thing. It's art. Yes, he knew he would be nude when he took the role, it's a very famous work. I'm excited for him. I'd love to see it if I lived in England, but alas my US status.

I saw on the much music website that it is certain DANIEL RADCLIFFE WILL BE NUDE IN THE PLAY ....however he will be riding a horse while naked...whether or not he will be doing any other nude scenes I'm not too sure.

Just a note: I looked it up and Peter Firth, who originated the role on Broadway AND repeated the role in the 1977 film, was in his twenties for both performances. I think Dan Radcliffe is too young and too inexperienced to take on this role. I am not saying he wouldn't throw himself into the part and really try to do it justice, but it seems like moving from Harry to Alan Strang is like going from 0 to 100 in 3 seconds. I find it very interesting that though Dan's participation in this project was first mentioned months ago, we are only now, less than one week after his 17th birthday, hearing that he has taken the part. It makes me wonder whether or not his parents are really all that supportive of his decision. Perhaps he felt he needed to reach the age when he could legally make the final decision himself.

Hey, if Dan wants to go from 0 to 1,000,000 in 1 second, that's now legally his decision. So, I guess, as none of us have telepathic control over Dan, we can't make him do the scene however we want him to. Dan's a big boy now and deserves a chance to prove himself as an actor and a decsion making adult. As his fans we should just be supportive of his final decsion, whatever that may be.

Is Daniel going insane?! It'd be more understandable if he did something like this after the series was over, but they're in the middle of the series! Even though I'm a fangirl, I'm really hoping he doesn't do the version of the play with the nudity. If he does, I personally will lose a lot of respect for him.

You know, i really really hate to be rude and everything, but those of you who are saying that you will lose alot of respect for him if he does the scene nude should just lose the respect you have for him right now then if he does do it. If he does it nude thats his business not yours. He's not out to impress you or anyone else for that matter.
