Dan to play leading role in 'Equus'
Many of you have flooded us with rumors (BBC, CNN, The Times) regarding Daniel Radcliffe's involvement in the West End play, Equus. We now have confirmation that Dan will indeed take a leading role in the mature play. This is what he had to say:

"I'm really excited to be part of this production and thrilled to be working with Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon) again. This is obviously a huge departure for me as an actor, but Equus is such an amazing play that this really was an opportunity not to be missed. Rehearsal starts in January and I am very much looking forward to working with Thea Sharock who is an incredibly talented director. I only hope I do the role justice."

According to DanRadcliffe.com, who received the news from Daniel, "Equus focuses on the relationship between seventeen-year-old Alan Strang (Radcliffe), who has blinded six horses with a spike, and Martin Dysart (Griffiths), a middle-aged psychiatrist who tries to figure out what drove Strang to commit the crime."

The role of Alan is usually performed nude in several parts of the play. However, there have been multiple versions of Equus in which no nudity was involved. Whether Dan will play the part nude or not, we don't know at this early stage. The play is expected to open in London sometime next spring.

Carol61, I agree with you, :) I was giving more reasons why it would be so illogical if someone complains. Like you say it wouldn't be right or logical, so I don't really care, because you will always find illogical and irrational people everywhere. If Dan is a role model for children, then he is a great role model, he is nice with everyone, down to earth, he is cultured, he helps charities, he is the nicest with his fans keeping in touch with them though DR.com and DR.co.uk, he has never showed a criticizable behavior like other Hollywood young stars.... >Don't worry, I'm sure WB supports Dan in this, I think WB wants us to realize that they are not kids anymore and these movies are more mature (some comments the producers did makes me think this), I think they want a mature audience, with GoF being PG-13 etc And I like that, because the books get darker and darker, and it wouldn't make sense it doesn't happend the same with the movies. >>> LiraelDaniels, Keira Knightly (and others) were younger when she appeared nude (in The Hole), and it was a movie, this is a play, which less people will see. But we are talking like this has been official confirmed and it has not, we won't know until it is started. >>>>And I think this shouldn't be the focus about this news... he has been chosen to play a very difficult role, we should be proud of him. A brilliant writer, brilliant actors... think he can do this, and we are not noticing it, maybe that's what some people just want, they want to move our minds away of the important point here.

thaar, you can hear many things, but 99% of them will be lies. Read the play if you want to know how many lies you have read ;)

Alan Strang, my goodness! That's a hell of a role. I hope Dan hasn't bitten off more than he can chew.

i am a fangirl of dan's but i HIGHLY doubt that he will be nude in the play. if he does he is not the guy i thought he was. but, then again, i'm only like 13 and live in the US so i dont really know him, but still. ironic, a play that combines my 2 favorite things (horses and Dan) and i won't be able to see it. *pouts* oh well, but good for Dan anyway. PS i wouldn't trust ANY info source on the play, not even CNN. go see it or ask a friend who's seen it if he really was nude.

pixie_dust, with nude scene or without nude scene he will continue to be the same nice person we know. It's acting, it's a character, not the real Daniel.

to quidditchplayer: i know, i know but i really think that he wont go with the nude scenes. i just cant see him doing it. but Dan is his own person, and he is at perfect liberty to perform that role the way he wants to. its his choice, NOT the fandom's.

I believe it has confirmed Dan will do at least one nude scene. But as quidditchplayer said, no biggie.
