On Thursday April 30th at 9:30am CDT, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, IL will open its doors to Harry Potter: The Exhibition for the public! Our website was one of few to get a preview Wednesday afternoon of the exhibit, followed by a roundtable discussion with its creators. I was on location and have compiled this report of events and sights to behold within. Over 3,000 man-hours have been put into the setup and transfer of all original artifacts from the Harry Potter films, straight from the studios at Leavesden. The exhibition will remain in Chicago until the end of September where it will then move on to another, as-of-yet kept secret location somewhere on the globe. The exhibit was created by Exhibitgroup/Giltspur in association with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and is a definite must-see for all Harry Potter fans. If you check out the exhibit, we hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The Mandragora roots corner has some warmth and humorous feeling about it. The rest, including the building, has the farty smell and feel of a Massonic Lodge... thanks for sharing

I REALLY hope they bring it to the UK. if they dont I really will be offended - its where the books and films were made, so itd be hugely insulting if we didnt get a chance to see it.

How much is it to go?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-04-30 13:05:54

I just got back from the Exhibition - most amazing thing EVER. seriously everyone has to go to it... its like being on all the movie sets or actually at Hogwarts in some bits. it was so cute to see how small the little red sweater and tan pants that Harry wore in the Sorcerers Stone were in comparison to his quidditch outfit from the 6th movie... the whole thing was just amazing.

This sounds incredible - especially the minor details like the Martin Miggs comic. I cannot imagine how it must feel to be in with all of the artifacts from the films, being able to live the magic of Harry Potter. Does anyone know if there was a special ceremony/party for the exhibitions grand opening?

I hope it comes to Slovenia!! (yeah right xD) .. but at least to Germany, which is quite near, not to UK, its too far away :(

Im going this summer! Cant wait. But Im curious - do they usher you through it pretty quickly? How much time can you take in each section/room?

Eric! Thank you for the highlights. I always love your posts. Since everyone else is making wishes for the exhibition to come to a place near them, I too will wish... Come to Seattle oh Great Exhibit...SEATTLE!!!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the compliments. In response to CrimeofPassions comments, theyre actually not giving people a set time limit. We had one hour due to our round-table discussion following and I imagine comfortably spending 90 minutes in it to really take everything in would be just fine. Thats 90 really loaded minutes. 120 is not unlikely either... especially if you loved the Quaffle Throw as much as I did. But yeah, theyre not going to be ushering people through, our guide was only in the beginning for the Sorting.

We attended Saturday opening weekend at 6:00pm. Not very crowded actually. It took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to look at everything. It was not as large as I thought it would be. You begin with the sorting hat. Then 6 screens of introduction film. A door opens like a foyer with the facimisle of the Hogarts Express that guides you to a large room You have to look from left side to right side and there are many, many detail items. From quills to books, howlers etc. The replica of the Great Hall doors is the actual height and carving is amazing. The costumes were interesting. Other than Hagrids costume, Dumbledores robes, and Victor Krums Yule Ball evening attire, everyone is so petite. Adult actresss included. The movies make it all truly look like magic. The death angel statue from Goblet of Fire is wicked. (amazing!) The British folks working were all very friendly and polite and they did not rush anyone. The exit is the gilft shop and was on the high side (price) There is a great grey or black "Harry Potter the expedtion" tee -only teens girls 34.99 Shoot! It is a worthwhile visit. Just dont rush throught it.

Don't be silly, Dawlish. I'm sure you are an excellent Auror, I seem to remember you achieved 'Outstanding' in all your N.E.W.T.s, but if you attempt to — er — 'bring me in' by force, I will have to hurt you.
