JKR writes article on Gordon Brown
JKR writes article on Gordon Brown TIME magazine has released its list of the world's 100 most influential people, and UK prime minister Gordon Brown came in at #2. JK Rowling, a strong supporter of Brown, wrote a piece about him for the magazine:

"Back in the mid-1990s, when he was new labour's brooding, intellectual heavyweight, I was a lone parent struggling to get by. He said he was not interested in stigmatizing the poor but in finding solutions for their predicament. I was tired of hearing government ministers lambaste the likes of me as irresponsible scroungers. I wanted Gordon Brown in charge..."

Thanks to Allie for the tip.

Gordon Brown, how "wonderful"... The very Gordon Brown that sings the agenda of "New World Order" without a false note, echoing "father Bush" word by word! What a circus. He is as "labour" as Bush is Labour. So JKR is a leftie... Shame...

Posted by acciocaitlin May 1st 2009

I don't know anything about the UK's political system, so I can't comment on Jo's political views. However, I like how she wrote this piece. It's great writing.

Posted by txRABbit May 1st 2009

I'd hate this to degenerate to a left/right argument. But Tauriel, it's a shame you're so ignorant to realize that without the left, you'd have no Harry Potter, and you'd just have to sit all alone and whine to yourself. So stop being a hypocrite and grow up.

Posted by RosinNeveryFairfield May 1st 2009

I grew up scorning the left. Later in life i realised that what many progressive people from the real left, so to speak, have greatly contributed to our present day's societies being less predatorial and more humanistic. However, i do believe that the left/right paradigm is a false facade circus nowadays. As in a nightmare scenario i see Gordon Brown echo word by word Bush father's declarations of "New World Order" (this is their words). There is no more left/right, there seems to be one party who meet between themselves and decides world agendas without the concent of people.

that is great writing, its amazing how everything she writes can be such a master piece. And I'm not into UK's political system either so I cant comment about the contact

Totally not the time to be admitting to the world that you're a Gordon Brown supporter.

Here here jo! I know what it is like to have a beautiful amazing child, who you want to bring up right. Going to work and juggling being a mum all for a wage that barely covers the bills and sometimes doesnt! and Jo is right, Gordon Brown has worked hard to make life better for people like Jo and Myself. He has made it possible for parents to work and have their children properly looked after while you do so. I dont have a lot of money by a long stretch but its thanks to work like this that i can afford my daughter a treat every now and again and for that i will be eternally grateful. What has happened recently doesnt take away from what he has achieved and he shouldnt have to take the weight of it all on his shoulders there have been many contributing factors to the economic crisis.

What JK means is that the poorer people are greatly supported by labour, as someone who sufered under a right wing government, she wanted change and still does - she is a baroness to the labour party btw. already the right wing are planning to cut spending on the poor, and increasing taxes on the poor and the elderly when they get into power and cutting taxes on the rich not to mention making fox hunting legal again... Im proud that my favourite author does not support these evils.

Posted by britfan May 2nd 2009

It's several years since I first learnt JKR was a Labour supporter, but back then she didn't publicise it and I respected her for that. Now the she's so openly supporting a c**p government and a Prime Minister who is on the verge of losing his job, she's lost a bit of my respect. Though I still think she's a genius for creating Harry Potter.

Posted by fliz May 2nd 2009

Anyone against JK for this should look up pre 1997 politics

Posted by whitelighter May 2nd 2009

I'm afraid few have understood : it is no longer about politics, right or left or whatever. It is about humanity and a bunch of satanic evil and strongly deranged people who are nothing else but puppet who wants to turn us into slave with not even our own mind to think for ourselves. They plan to implant us with microchips. Some already have been. Please, wake up or Lord Voldemort of real life will win and no Harry Potter will be able to defeat him. This is not a joke. This is serious. Ms Rowling what have they done to you ? May you have a wake-up call soon. A lot of Christians are comparing what is happening now to what is written in the Book of Apocalypse. I am not a christian though I believe in the forces that rules the Universe which is about the same with different words and concept but everything that is written is really happening. So whatever your belief, reconnect to God or the Universe, but WAKE UP or you will live the worst nightmare ever. There is still hope if we all wake up NOW. Bless you all.

Whitelighter, we are reading you! Mine and JKR views hardly ever differ (privately) but this theme is among the rare few where they do differ. It is rather a question of her NOT HAVING THE TIME to get informed in the only place where we can get trully informed: the alternative media._____You talk about "microchips" and plans to microchop populations. Some find it hard to believe but then we have people like Biden openly stating (easy to find on youtube video) that "we should look forward not only to microchip implants but to brain implants...". Sounds insane, one watches the video time after time after time to verify if they are dreaming (nightmaring) yet this is what he says clearly. Push for Global Fascism, just like "voldemort", will come covertly from our own rangs, not from some "primitive" country.

Wow...some of the comments here are absolutely stupid.

Posted by loveslupin May 2nd 2009

Everyone is, of course, entitled to their own beliefs, and I'm certainly not going to be "against" JKR for her support of a Labour government. But, seeing how much things have messed up, and how much opposition the PM has faced, don't you think it's time we gave someone else a chance? A Labour government obviously isn't working. Yes, they "look after the poor" and "single parent families", but that's not always a good thing you know!! What about married people? People are better off staying single because they get benefits! Once you're married, you're on your own. My friens and her husband recently got evicted because of debts, and even though they have a two year old daughter, the government wouldn't house them because THEY WERE MARRIED! Yet some single girl who sleeps around and has kids for the sake of benefits (yes, it happens!!) gets a huge house!! It isn't about being left or right wing now. The fact is, all parties promise something that they cannot give. Just look at whats become of this Country - just look at how many people want to move away - just look at all the pointless money being spent on things we simply don't need. This Country is messed up. I used to be proud to be British; nowadays I want nothing more than to get away to somewhere where us human beings actually have rights. I know Britain isn't entirely to blame for the recession, but it could have been handled a lot better.

Posted by RosinNeveryFairfield May 2nd 2009

Loveslupin, i'm saying this respectfully--not in a stern way, but i think that to be a single parent most probably is a horror hard to imagine. I haven't been single parent but somehow i sense how dark and dreadful one may feel from such a situation, and no benefits for such parents will ever be 'enough'......may-be i'm wrong but that's my feeling...

Posted by loveslupin May 2nd 2009

Rosin - Yes, it probably is for most people. But that's no excuse to shun everyone else. Some single parents don't need the help, just like some married couples do. It works both ways. My mum brought me and my brother up on her own, she's been a single parent all her life, but she wouldn't dream of voting Labour again.

Posted by whitelighter May 3rd 2009

Rosin - Thanks for your openmindedness. I do understand your point and share it almost totally. I too used to feel the same until I found out and realized that whichever side, they were all puppet to the Illuminati. As for JKR not having the time to read the alternative information, you must be joking! I find it so hard to believe considering the amount of reference you find in the Harry Potter books. I still consider there might be a possibility she wrote all this totally unware and following her instincts but why did she stop in the middle and stops following her instincts ? Yep, that's still a possibility but in her position not an excuse. However I feel like some people misunderstood my criticism. This is not about what Mr Brown did or did not or what he did better than the Tories, this is about him being a puppet in the hands of the NWO. As they say, it doesn't pay to take a hard line and everything they're going to suggest before imposing them on us is going to be for our own good. As it always has. I know this is not the place for such conversation but I also know that it is important to inform people everywhere. If you go on forums where everybody already knows, what good does it do to those who don't know? I know most will find this silly and I feel very very sorry for them. But now they choose to ignore the information, it is their responsibility and they no longer have the excuse of not knowing. In the end all this will happen or not happen depending on what we choose to believe. I should think Harry would not ignore it. He would check for himself of course, but he would consider it. All the best even to those who find this all "silly".

Posted by iwantorlando05 May 3rd 2009

Wow she has such a way with words...her writing in something as simple as this is amazing.

Posted by _silly_billy_ May 4th 2009

i love j k rowling's writing. and i agree that the majority suffer under a right wing government. but even so; new labour is not the answer. also, hazel blears is an idiot. bring back the labour left.

Posted by TheElfThatLied May 6th 2009

I agree with loveslupin: theres just way too many wrong things with this country, and things need to change. The only problem is, I can't see a difference between the Labour or Conservative parties anymore. Neither party leader seems to have a real idea what the public want. I mean, David Cameron talks well, and he does a good job in making Brown look stupid, but will he be any better? Who knows. I'll be legible to vote in the elections and I'm sooo not sure who to vote for. I might as well go for the lib dems or something. But to be honest, it doesn't look as though labour has a chance, the way how things are going. Maybe JK wrote that article to try and put Gordon Brown back on the map? Give him some extra support? Like Oprah did for Obama (eventho he didn't really need it)...
