**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES AND CHARITY INFO!
Read the back of the book for more info. Look for it in bookstores June 1st! Click here to pre-order at Amazon! And yes... this means Ben and I are going BACK ON TOUR this summer! Stay tuned for tour dates and locations! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! WE DON'T ACTUALLY THINK Harry should have died. Well, I don't, anyway. Ben does. But Ben is evil. This is ONE VIEW that people hold. In the book, we reach the conclusion that Harry should have lived! The title is a double entendre - it references the view some people hold, that Harry Potter (the character) should have died. It also speaks to those who thought Harry Potter (the buzz) should have died. But Harry Potter didn't die. It didn't go away when DH came out. In coffee shops and on message boards, we're all still fiercely debating the most controversial issues. We thought putting our extensive analysis in to book form was the best way to reach out to Harry Potter fans who haven't yet found their way onto MuggleNet (and don't listen to MuggleCast!). So in this book, we discuss about what really happened, what could have happened, and what maybe should have happened. ---------------------------- UPDATE (June 11): IT'S IN STORES!!! You can pick it up at your local bookstore or you can order it on Amazon here! Go - do it!! In related news, earlier this week, Gaby and I launched GivesMeHope.com (GMH) - "Like FMyLife, but for optimists!" It's a website where people share their most hopeful, uplifting moments. Or another way of saying it - it's a collection of "Bite-sized, Chicken Soup Stories for the Twitter Generation." The response has been incredible. You guys did an AMAZING job spreading our message of hope - the website received 185,000 hits in its first 24 hours! Wow! We were voted the #1 story on Digg.com, ranked one of the "Top 10 Hottest Urls" of May 31st, and also got written up in several newspapers and magazines, including Esquire.com. As I mentioned in my last post, GMH is a cause that I believe in so strongly, I'm going to donate every penny I receive in proceeds from the sale of our new book to promoting GMH. I'm proud to announce today we have selected a charity to align the website with: GivesMeHope will be used exclusively to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It is consistently rated as one of the most efficient and effective charities, and I've seen the impact my local Boys and Girls Club has made in my community. It's definitely an organization whose mission is aligned with ours. So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to everybody for all your support. I have read over 1000 of your stories, and I'm just brimming with hope and optimism for our future. As you can tell, I can't even contain my excitement. I hope you'll continue to visit the website, and help Gaby and I spread our message of hope! THANK YOU!! EDIT: Thank you for all of the positive feedback on the book. We're so glad you guys enjoy it - we had a blast writing it!

I dont agree with this AT ALL! PEOPLE WERE ALREADY DEPRESSED WHEN SOO MANY CHARACTERS DIED IN DEATHLY HALLOWS ALREADY! AND NOW YOU WANTED HARRY POTTER TO DIE??? BOOOO! LOL

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 12:10:51

I wish Laura was coming on tour too. Shes sexy.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 12:11:37

Yaay, anything harry potter is good:D Cant wait!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 12:13:56

its not that they want Harry dead, but the book looks to be about what JKR *might* have chosen to do. Sort of like a book discussing what could have happened. Personally, I think they way DH was put together is just perfect, but that doesnt mean that there werent other ways that could have worked. I think JKR shouldnt have made the statement about Dumbledore being gay, since there is nothing to support that fact in the books. I am in fact glad she did not put anything in the books to suggest it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 12:14:51

Awesome

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 12:15:35

this means you need to have a new mugglecast to promote this.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:08:20

PITIFUL. --- Emerson, are you really going to exploit every possible way to MAKE MONEY? --- ANOTHER book discussing HP? Really? --- Isnt your five figure yearly income from this site enough? Jesus, kind of a shame what you turned into over the years.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:10:31

lol this should be funny

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:11:54

What do you mean, "Was Snape really a hero?" YES HE WAS. Snape should have lived. Harry? Not so sure...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:14:21

Interesting idea. I had actually thought about a lot of "what-ifs" over the years while reading--this book kind of makes that thought come to life. I dont think Ill read it though. I like the books the way they are and if I read something like this I wouldnt read the series the same way and that would upset me. So I hope its good at least, and that those who choose to read it like it and enjoy it--right now Ill just continue to be excited for the HBP movie!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:34:19

Im sorry but this is silly, who are you to say what should have happened? Also, I cant help but feel you guys are trying to cash in with these books.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:35:25

woooooooooooo!! i will definitely be buying this! also, come to amarillo, tx, or else go to dallas around the time of the movie premiere. that is all.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:39:49

Im not really sure Id want to read this book, mainly because its criticizing and saying, basically, what could have happened. Deathly Hallows is enough for me, I like it untarnished and not scrutinized. Also, I agree with Snapealicious. Snape /was/ a hero, and Jo confirmed that by having Harry say Snape was probably "the bravest man I ever knew." Thats clear enough. However, that does not necessarily mean he shouldve lived. Good and bad die, but seriously, I didnt want him to die either. P:

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:40:08

I really dont think JKR would approve of this, I think its obvious you guys are milking the HP cashcow for all its worth.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:47:54

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahha ha this is so random it shouldve been this years April Fools joke!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:58:01

yeah i have to agree with w1nt3r5l0v3, it does seem like you guys are milking the HP cashcow. but that aside, a book on what ifs... idk. not that what ifs arent interesting but why order a book when you could have the same thing by going to HP discussion forums online. for free. im just saying.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 13:59:31

yay!!! cant wait to get it and see what you guys have to say! plus if you come to chicago i am so going to go!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:00:48

That is an interesting idea. I would not have thought about it. But I am definitely going to be now. Cant wait! No way I WONT buy this. I loved their last book. Great work!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:05:21

Although it is interesting to hear their ideas on what they think should have happened, I dont like the title saying flat out that they disagree with what Jo thought should have happened.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:12:33

OMG!!! dis is sooo cool!!! i no i dnt agree with d title, like so many others, bt its a cud slant on d way of thinking of wat cud hav hapnd!!! cant w8 til d books out, tho itll b rite b4 mi exams.......i dnt care ill make mi parents get it 4 me n keep it safe 4 me, lol!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:13:25

LOL! Guess this is one way of paying for his honeymoon with his future missus. Doesnt take away from the site itself, but it does sound like *katching*. Mind you, I do like Mugglenet. Anywho.... my two cents worth for this debate.

That looks pretty cool and Id love to hear what you guys think, but if Harry would have died I would be really, really upset. I already cried my heart out when a certain Weasley died, and Im pretty sure I wouldnt be able take it if Harry died too. Also, I agree, allprostar31, they will need a MuggleCast to promote this, no question.

YEA MANNN!!! Cant wait to get my hands on this. When you come on tour come to boston!! This seems like a really good book and we havent heard much from Emerson and especially Ben in a looong time.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:28:00

Ah, I remember when Emerson asked me a couple of others which cover we liked best for this book in the MuggleSpace Chat. I choose that one, the other wasnt as good XD

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:31:40

yay! I loved the last book and I cant wait to read this one! You guys had better come to New York!! I live in Ontario and New York is the closest State I can get to. Either New York or come to Canada!

This is stupid. You guys are not JKR and should not question her writing. The title shocked me. Do you want Harry to die? Dont force your opinions on us through a book. Find another PRODUCTIVE way to get rich.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:37:06

Bookworm1991: Dear bigot....she did subtly put in there. Just because you couldnt see it, doesnt mean it wasnt. And what if she had? Would you have filled your diapers and stopped reading the series? Would not surprise me if you would. Next time, try actually reading and understand the message of the novels, not just your bigotted presuppositions.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:43:23

I have always thought that Harry should have died. Im glad Emerson and Ben feel the same way, because I thought no one agreed with me. :(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:47:25

Yes.I was thinking about this summer and how Im going on a plane and I was thinking what book I should bring and this is my pick.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:51:23

Yay! Im so excited, going to pre-order it now! =)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 14:55:11

congrats on your new book! it sounds cool, but im not sure i agree with the title. idk if i will read it. but it does sound interesting...i just dont want it to ruin my opinion of the HP books. i will def. consider reading it tho.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:02:46

Sweeeeet! :D Soo excited. z8)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:07:07

Say WHUT?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:09:55

Harry DID die..... he just didnt choose to stay that way.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:10:34

Yay! The last book was so good, and so was the book tour. Im so excited about this one.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:12:29

i will look forward to reading this! I totally wanted Harry to die, it would have made him more of a hero than the "All was well" ending. but then again sappy, happy endings arent my thing.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:13:06

AWESOME!!!!! I cant wait for this to come out. And for the tour. AWESOME!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:13:21

I dont think Harry should die. Your book sounds interesting, but, I dont think I will buy it. Ill probably get it from the library. As for Snape being a hero, well, he sure fooled me. I thought he was all for himself, working both Dumbledore and Voldy against each other. Maybe your book is just a book of different opinions. Whatever, I will probably read it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:15:51

OMG!!!! im buyin that book!! i cant wait for the tour either!!! yay! AWESOME!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:16:02

OH MY GOD THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!! :D Ill definitely go out and buy itttt :D Another Harry Potter thing to get me excited for summer, and its closer to now than the movie, tehe :P It should be REALLY interesting!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:20:27

Congrats to the Mugglenet staff for finding a new way to beat a dead horse. But with a wedding to finance, it is not surprising to see Emerson trying to find a new way to cash in on Jos creativity. I read the last Mugglenet book, which was fun, but it was even more fun to score how well you correctly predicted the events in Book 7 (you scored pretty well, but I will never forgive you for calling Fred to live and getting my hopes up...course I am still angry at Jo that he died). But this book is just an exercise to get people to blow a lot of hot air about a non-topic while at the same time make easy money off of folks who will buy ANYTHING with "Harry Potter" in the title. Ill be passing on this one.

Wow, how cool is it to say that youre a New York Times Best-Selling author? That blows my mind, Im so excited for this new book!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:44:31

BOOOOOOOO! EPIC FAIL!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:45:10

Yeah, New York Times Bestselling authors that have all of their fan e-mails and discussions to use for material and never cite. Opinions that have been hashed and rehashed. They did it ALL on their own and get all of the money, too. The last book is written. Lets keep talking about what we wish would have happened and pretend that its going to change anything. The fact that we have such burning and passionate opinions about these books speaks enough for J.K. Rowlings genius in creating them. You wont be taking my money on this.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 15:45:41

I have to agree with what a lot of others are saying. I didnt buy the last book because it seemed to be just a summary of what the fandom was theorizing, and I dont plan to buy this one either. Im sure a lot of people could find it interesting, but it doesnt seem like it will have much extra content or make me appreciate the series anymore than I do.

wowww everyone, stop bashing it! itll be great! im really really excited! =]]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:20:42

By definition of a young adult novel, it has to be an upbeat ending. Otherwise its considered adult literature. Thats why harry couldnt die.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:23:28

OMG OMG! That is soooo cool!! Yay! Cant wait to read it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:24:22

OOO Sounds interesting. Im gonna have to read it. :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:39:30

Interesting... I dont know if Ill be purchasing the book, but I think its a really good idea for a book. I mean, I listen to MuggleCast, so most of those questions have been discussed, but Im sure there are the fans who arent as intense about Potter as I am, and they probably are still wondering about some of those topics. Good luck with the book sales and tour! Im sure itll go great!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:45:12

AHHHH excited!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:45:15

Preach it! PLEASE tell me there is an entire chapter on why she should not have killed Lupin and Tonks in a casual, passing one sentence in the midst of the huge battle and done nothing with it after that! I HATE that so much and I think it was a huge writing mistake. You dont just build up these characters and then kill them off without providing a reason and without giving your readers a chance to understand and say goodbye. JKR even said that she did not mean for them to die in an interview, and I agree that she should have reigned herself in and said, I need to do good writing rather than needlessly depressing random character killings. Dobby got more fanfare for his death than these two very important characters. No one will ever convince me that it was the right choice. I also agree that she should not have said that Dumbledore is gay after giving no evidence of that or alluding to it in the book. Saying that she would have said it years ago if shed known that it would make us happy is not true. Im sorry, it isnt. I feel that if it was important enough to her she should have had the courage to put it in the books instead of mentioning it casually. It really looks like she just jumped on the gay bandwagon to get even more praise lavished on her for being up to date and accepting. Im sorry, I dont respect that and I dont think it was a wise decision. I respect the decision to write the book about where DH might have been different. I think that since JKR has enjoyed so much praise from us she should be able to hear criticism from the ones who care about her books the most. I personally was horribly let down by Deathly Hollows on a lot of levels. I enjoyed parts of DH immensely and I think they show exceptional writing on JKRs part. However I also think she tried to put it together too fast, or with too little judgement and editing, and it was not nearly as Im sorry if any of you disagree, these are my opinions of course and you are free to disa...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:48:55

i gotta order ! this wont be realised in Ireland *sob sob* so exciteed

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:54:42

I do apologize, but frankly the idea for a book like this is slightly ridiculous. The book has been written and theres no changing that--a BOOK of what if situations? I just see no point at all; in the words of Fred Weasley (what if he had lived?!?!): "Blimey, what a waste of parchment..."

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 16:56:03

bookworm1991: How was she supposed to suggest it in the books, Give Dumbledore a rainbow wand. I mean come on, get with the program. People like you, who think that JKR should have left the fact that Dumbledore is gay out of it, should go boil your heads. Nobody seems to care that Aberforth had a freaky innappropriate thing with goats, but your all puffed up and offended that Dumbledore was in love with another guy.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:25:28

wow, mmesnape... that was kinda a low blow dont you think? Emerson is a very successful young man, but I dont think hes all about the money. Hes more classier than that. Plus, we probably dont need to comment on his personal life like that. But, other than that, Ill read the book purely for entertainment and curiosity. It wont affect anything I already know.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:26:45

Firtst thing that popped in my head when I read the title: "Christ, another cash in." I dont care about exploring possibilities or criticism. Infact, critically examining everything, even your favorite book series, is healthy. But that type of stuff works best in the exchange of ideas like in forums. This book just feels like some controversial ideas were half explored and sloppily tied together with nothing to benefit anyone except your won pockets. I know I havnt read the book yet but I base my assumptions off of the nature of MuggleNet. Its not philosophical nor particularly intelligent, just flashy and fun. Another thing is the excess of ads. Seriously? They are everywhere now! And atleast two pop-ups whenever I visit. I know you need money to keep it running but thats overboard. Leaky, I have to admit, is a larger sight yet it keeps going on half the ads. I dont know why Im writing so much but I have a feeling its a sort of good bye. Ive been with MuggleNet for years but right now the only thing that keeps me from switching is comfort.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:31:28

Great another book Emerson!! ANOTHER REASON TO GET MONEY OUT OF THE FANS OF HARRY POTTER... WE SHOULD DUB THIS BOOK EMERSONS WEDDING FUNDS BOOK BECAUSE LETS FACE IT YOU COULD HAVE DONE A PODCAST ON THIS NOT A BLEEDING BOOK. 3 WORDS POINTLESS POINTLESS AND OH YES POINTLESS

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:35:48

YESSSSS!!!!! i cant wait to read it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:36:48

Nice way to grab some extra dough in this rough economy. Gratz!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:40:00

i dont think they chose that name because they actually think harry should have died..theyre just trying to grab peoples attention but anyway, i probably wont buy it. its a waste of money and i dont really care

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:40:15

I think this book sounds interesting, although I probably wouldnt read it. Hopefully it wasnt written just to make a buck. I do have to say, though, that I shuddered when I read this comment: "This is stupid. You guys are not JKR and should not question her writing." YAH U GUYZ NEVER QUESTION WAT DA GRAT ROWLING SEZ SHE IZ GOD. NOT question someones writing? Eurgh. That leads down a dangerous path of never questioning anything/anyone, from politicians to laws, etc.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 17:45:24

awesome, you guys come up with the most greatest ideas!!! im so gonna buy!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:01:18

Lame.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:13:37

People can choose if it would be better if Harry died or if J.K Rowling should have kept it a secret that Dumbledore is gay for themselves. We shouldnt have to decide because a book says that. I think that the book will be good for opion but people can think about these things for themeselves they dont need a book to tell them that it should have been this way or that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:15:15

tabithasnape: yes youre free to espouse your bigotry, but also feel free to change those full diapers too.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:16:21

CrimeofPassion: I meant dont question what she writes about. She can end it whatever way she wants without being criticized. Writing is a personal form of your thoughts, where other people might agree or disagree. Now I do believe in testing authority figures. Not someones personal writing.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:19:47

FINALLY! I definitely thought Harry should have died. I didnt want him to die, but it was necessary. It would have made everything 100 times more real. Im still disappointed about it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:27:01

I am so excited!!! I cant wait to read the book, and rub it in the faces of everyone who thinks HP is over. This was such a great idea to write, because HP is obviously still relevant... look at all the news on this site every day! Look at all of the visitors! Look at all of the MuggleCast listeners! Look at the lego portrait of JKR! You guys are awesome, and anyone who deludes himself that Harry Potter is over needs to give this a read! And by the way, you should come to Florida this time! And/or Michigan! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:35:27

Uh, so this is basically a book where Emerson and Ben dissect and over analyse what Jo Rowling gave us as an ending, giving their opinions on what could or should have happened? Did you write the best book series of the decade? Do your opinions count more than everyone elses? NO. I enjoyed thinking up theories for what may happen in the next instalment and analysing what did happen, but to write a book which is basically forcing your ideas out there for profit is just not on, imo. You have this SITE and the podcast to view your theories etc. Im up for a discussion sure, but dont milk HP for all its worth for your own greed *. Who made you more expert than any other fan? The ONLY expert on all things HP is JKR and she gave you an ending to the series. Live with it as it stands. Remember the hype over that Steve van de ark or whatever his name is? This is no different, really. *unless of course the proceeds go to charity; they do right? Not that I can buy the book anyway as I live in the UK.

OMG I cant wait to read it!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 18:51:10

If fans buy this book, its on them-- I would not presume to blame the authors. Yes, I think a book like this published two years AFTER Deathly Hallows was released is superfluous, but people should not blame Emerson and Ben for "robbing Harry Potter fans"-- its the decision of the desperate consumers. No one is forcing people to buy this book! Oh yes, and in reply to a previous comment, the Harry Potter series is over. Supplementary material like Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard will probably continue for years (and I hope they do!) But unless the cover says "By J.K. Rowling" then I dont really think people should bother.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 19:03:56

I disagree with this. Neither of you are great liteary critics- atleast, not to my knowledge, so I cant see why the book with be such a great liteary criticism- and fans have forums, chat rooms and a whole host of ways to swap their opinions on H.P and D.H. I really doubt your motives, Im afraid to say, a.k.a- $$$$ And is it not an irony to argue that should the Harry Potter buzz have died, when your prolonging it with this? I wont be buying it- I brought youre other book- which I loved- but not this. And just to let you know, Ive been visiting this site since I was 14, and am now 19- and have always supported you guys, alas, not today.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 19:15:06

interesting...I will definitely read it...I think JKR should write a biography on Dumbledore and write a book containing more backround info on the other characters like Dean or Seamus. Im very interested in knowing Deans backround. Does anyone know if his dad was a muggle?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 19:27:49

Are you going to put in in Kindle format? PLEASE!! SAVE A TREE!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 19:35:58

Ah! Harry Potter should NOT have died. Lol. OMG I so want this book now...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 19:42:09

My accusations of greed are kind of groundless, but you have to understand thats exatly what it looks like. The only part of this that really bothers me, other than there being no real need for a book like this, is that you say what "should" have happened. It makes it seem like you think you know whats better for the series than JKR does, and thats just ridiculous. Also, I feel its time to let go of the Dumbledore being gay thing. Any fan who says she should have kept that to herself is missing the point of the entire series. She has said that in the end the books are a plea for tolerance. /rant.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:05:56

sounds cool dude

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:11:36

im suprised so many people are so negative about this! i am so excited! please please come to either new jersey or new york city!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:18:55

I had a lot to say but now...I just think it shouldnt have been done. Its too soon. It seems like a ploy for money. The ideas are not new, nor are they original. There has been too much speculation over the years to pass off any theory as your own.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:21:43

Thank you for clarifying that post Emerson. I feel a lot better about that now. I was planning on buying it anyway, but I am happy to know you dont think Harry should have died. And yes, Ben is evil. lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:26:59

The problem with this is, is that you guys have made 2 years of Podcasts. Even if Emerson and Ben are not regularly on the show, you put no disclaimer before the podcasts saying that you dont agree with the opinions stated. There has been so much talk and dissecting of the series, I just dont see the need for this. But this is a capitalistic country and you are going to capitalize in any way that it is legal for you to do so, so I cant really criticize here. But I just dont see how you can say anything in this book that hasnt already been discussed, and like someone said previously, is your opinion worth more than anyone elses? Just because youve run a website for 10 years doesnt make you more interested, more knowledgeable, or more of a fan than the millions of other HP fans out there. Im not sure what you two graduated from Notre Dame with but unless it was in some sort of literary degree, I dont see how your opinion and book is really worth too much.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:39:50

I hate to say it but the first thing I thought when I read this was "Great, another way for Ben and Emerson to make money" I feel as I can get as meaningful and interesting critique on Harry Potter forums, which are free. I have no problem with Ben and Emerson stating their opinions on the book, you dont have to be a literary critic to critique a book but this just seems like another money making scheme. I feel as if MN is becoming more and more about the money and less about the books we all love. I just got FIVE obnoxious popup ads, and whenever I visit the site, I always get at least three, theres an annoying video ad with audio which plays automatically and is really annoying. Thats sort of off topic, but I fail to see why I should pay to read your opinions about book seven if I can listen to a podcast, visit a fan forum or read an online essay for free with just as meaningful discussion.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:41:16

Personally, I have to admit that I wont be buying this book either. Im not sure what the initiative behind this novel is from Ben or Emerson (money/pasion or neither) but at the end of the day, its nothing new, and nothing more than a playground discussion about our personal "opinions" on the ending of the series we all hold dear; the discussions that were settled long ago now. This is badly timed, too. Die-hard fans (aka Mugglenetters etc, generally) dont want to read a book about the flawed choices of the author, or things that wouldve been BETTER - its tarnishing what is already whole and adored regardless, and even if someone doesnt like how the series ended or some choices of JK, who cares? Shes the writer! She chooses how it ends, and everyone has to either hate/love/like it, but they have no say about changing it. It is how it is. Harry shouldnt have died, the title is offensive and abrupt to JK and fans in general, and dont get me started about "were all still fiercely debating the most controversial issues." Controversial issues? FIERCELY debating? Plot-twists of fiction are hardly controversial issues, and even if they managed an epic scale of arguement would they honestly STILL be being debated in "coffee shops"? The ending has concluded the series. Its finished. Its completed. Theres no more theorizing and guesswork - its all set in stone and the quicker people learn to accept that, love it or hate it, theyll understand that a book like this is only going to jeopardize the series, the author and the fans. Harry shouldnt have died - Why, you ask? BECAUSE JK DECIDED HE WOULDNT. The End, Goodnight.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 20:46:41

... the title still kind of upsets me. ... but thats okay, i guess.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 21:03:55

Everyone lighten up. Dont judge a book by its cover.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 21:05:59

Ah man i thought it was ok at first and now i read all these comments and im sorta depressed by them... now i dont know WHAT i think... oh dear...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 21:12:39

EPIC TITLE! 27 Days!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 21:18:20

Ok, I really like the tittle of this book. I really like Emersons reasoning behind it too. Also, for all of you who wish that you didnt hear that Dumbledore was gay, its not a big deal AND its not like JKR woke up one morning saying "I want to pull Dumbledore out of the closet". She was asked a DIRECT QUESTION on Dumbledores love life, and she hasnt lied to us on character information yet.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 21:35:12

Stop being negitive! This is Benerson "rideng the cash cow" relax!

I DONT think harry should have died i bawled my eyes out anyway can you imagine what i wouldve been like if he died? I probly would have died. did anyone honestly think he was going to die when you picked up the book though? i was so convinced when i read it but... not when i first picked up the book

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 22:31:09

Blatant cashing in ploy, nothing more. Revisionist books are always stupid anyways, who cares what could have happened, it didnt, get over it. This site is dead.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-05 23:28:15

Well said kokoro_ravenclaw .... I will CERTAINLY not be WASTING MY MONEY, not even a PENNY on this load of CRAP book! Talk abouit BAD TIMING! Youre gonna release this garbage almost 2 YEARS after the book was released? MAN UP and except the fact that Harry Potter lived. Sheesh

Is this even available on my country? oh well. Im sooo looking forward to this.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 00:04:18

this is so great!!! after deathly hallows came out i wasnt sure what to read in my spare time..... but now i have the solution(: (even if harry should NOT have died) cant wait!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 00:52:32

hahaha!! This would be a massive spoiler for those poor muggles who wants to wait for the movie Emerson and Ben!!!!! I can picture my friends seeing this book and go "NOOOO!!!!"

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 01:20:26

Oh, I cant wait! I enjoy reading books that analyse the series, and while it does seem like you cashing in on the series (hey, youve got to pay for your wedding somehow!), how many other authors have done so? Ill definitely be buying it when it comes to Australia- but first I have to find your pre-book7 book!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 02:02:44

I made a fan reaction video so we can talk about it on youtube too! (Its still processing right now, but by the time you click this it should be all done :) ) Im not normally so fangirl-like, but for the sake of the video I got a little excited ahhaha ok, so here, click (You may have seen my past HP vids under the account kiten2cat12345, but I posted this on my new account) http://www.yo utube.com/watch?v=J2iqCg1 c7mE

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 02:25:30

I will never look at Ben the same way again. Just kidding--sorta! =) Anyway, not completely sure if I will buy this book. I really dont want to read why people think Harry should have died, whether the popularity or Harry himself.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 02:43:07

Who would buy this? The title is stupid, almost as dumb as Dumbledore Is Alive. Harry deserves to live, thrive and survive with Ginny by his side.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 03:02:49

I was very pleased with how JKR ended the series. He kinda did get a death scene, no matter how you look at it... he saw beyond the physical world. Therefore, he saw death. All I wanted was to prove to people that Harry was a horcrux and he had to die SOME WAY to get rid of it. Technically, he did, but because Voldemort used his blood he got a second chance at life if he decided to live it. Which, he did, so he was placed back into his mortal body. I loved that. Because I knew Harry had to die... I just didnt want him too... but I knew he had to be "dead" at some point to get rid of the horcrux. So she ended it perfectly! :D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 03:11:05

Another thing... I think the title is really rude because what if there is some person in the bookstore, wanting to start reading the series, but then they see this mugglenet book beside them that says "HARRY POTTER SHOULD HAVE DIED!" ....you might as well be those idiots at the midnight releases who shouted out endings... AND writing books like this will just make those Harry Potter haters justify their reasoning for hating the series... because if die hard fans are even nit picking at the brilliant work of JKR, then surely its a flawed story. Thats how a lot of people think.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 03:52:28

Yay yay yay yay YAY Oh My GOSH this has made me SOOO happy and EXCITED! :D (Forgive the caps. It was justified).

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 07:07:10

If you think about it...Harry (the character) did die...sort of. But Im still so excited. I read the first book like 3 times while I was waiting for Deathly Hallows to come out. :D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 07:24:56

Ok, so let me get this twisted theory straight. First, Rowling kills Hedwig, and then Mad-eye, and people think, "Alright, that is understandable. Of course he dies," and then she kills Dobby, and people think, "A plot twist, darn shes good", soon after, Lupin and Tonks name Harry godfather to Teddy, foreshadowing their deaths. We think, "Shes very skilled to write like this, and foreshadow something ominous. Fred dies, and people start an uproar, "WHAT THE *cesored.* Snape dies, and most think, "As expected, but you can quit it now." She didnt listen, she kept going. Very soon after, as sleuths knew would happen after Lupin announced Harry godfather, Lupin and Tonks die. People think "ok, ok, we get it. You killed them, and many other important charactes. Drop it." But no! She kills Colin next! And people ask "WHY! What- was- the- POINT!" To this day, I ask myself that question! Kill anyone. You already killed enough, but to kill Fred and Colin is crossing the line! WOW! And now... to make matters more hilarious, we ask, "Hey, why didnt Harry die?" We accepted Dobby, Mad-eye, and Lupin and Tonks because they were simple to predict. Of course Dobby would give his life. He proved it time and again before. Mad-eye is a hero, and lived his part. Lupin and Tonks died because Teddy was meant to be an orphan. Another orphan story. Snape died because he had to. He was a spy. I knew he would from book 6. But Fred and Colin? Fred was too good, and a twin! Colin was pointless to kill WHY? I have a question Why DID more than five die. NOT including Hedwig. The seventh book had seven significant deaths in it. Mad-eye, Dobby, Fred, Snape, Lupin, Tonks, Colin. Was that supposed to be symbolic? She couldve killed Lavender, Cho, Susan, Hannah. All of which couldve replaced the deaths of Fred and Colin nicely, but NO! Why didnt Harry die? Why, oh why, oh why, do people want more deaths?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 07:35:27

Ah hem. Sorry for my madness. I am not usually like this. But... I had 2 get this out of my system. Its been boiling up for two years. I just think the deaths of Fred and Colin were pointless, and two of my favorite characters. I hardly think Harry shouldve died, but we do have freedom of speech, and Emerson and Ben have the right 2 analyze and discuss. Emerson already said he doesnt thik Harry should have died, but he nonetheless worked with Ben on the book, on something he didnt agree with. Because the book is a discussion and an analysis. Not an essay imposing other views on people. So every1, calm down, (not that I can talk, huh?) I find it cool that Emerson could cooperate with someone who has different views than him.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 07:43:20

I will be more willing to buy this one then the first, as I did not want any influance of my reading of book 7, but now that it i s all said and done, this might be a fun way to keep going with the HP stuff while we wait for film 6 and Book 7 part one and two to come out. Thanks guys. LOL, Emerson your funny saying Ben was evil because he wanted Harry to die. I believe lots of people thought he might. I for one was not sure but was pleased how everything turned out.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 08:08:58

I agree that I obviously was super sad when the characters died, but like you said, some were at least understandable. JKR says that sometimes it cannot always be who youd expect to die--sometimes it pr,eys on just another average person... So I guess she was teaching a lesson but it is still sad :-(

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 08:37:11

Harry_Potter_Prince: The book is already published, and so as you read it, its already set in stone. DH also tells of war, and INNOCENT PEOPLE die in war. Colin didnt save himself, he chose to fight like an honorable Gryffindor and man. The Weasley family is a big family, as well. One of them would have to end up dying, I kind of knew that but didnt want to accept it. If you have read Holocaust books, you realize that it doesnt matter if they were a hero or not, if they were good-looking or loved by many fans. In reality, anyone couldve died, and JKR put it how it would be. Im not saying I /wanted/ Lupin or Snape or Fred to die, of course not.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 08:49:40

Harry_Potter_Prince: I think the whole point was that death isnt fair and it doesnt have any "lines" to cross as such. Everyone who died was fighting a war and I think the amount of deaths and the characters Jo chose to die were to emphasise the fact that war isnt kind. As for the book...well... I think kokoro_ravenclaws views are pretty close to my own. Sorry, but Im not interested in hearing other peoples views on the last book. It was good enough for me and thats all that matters... to me, obviously.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 08:52:53

Congratulations on the Book! I find it highly amusing that so many people are dissing it without reading one page of it. Its a free country so please dont buy it if you dont want it. But you may be missing out on something special. The last word has not been written on the Harry Potter books, and clearly people still have strong opinions about Deathly Hallows. After thousands of pages there is alot to talk about. Criticism has a place in literature, too, and its actually a compliment to JKR that people find her characters so fascinating and controversial.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 09:31:47

If Harry just plain lived, Id have been upset, but Harry surviving "dying" was poetic. It was set up from the start of the series, and it drew it together and a really cool Christian Allegory so I can fight back the book burners with it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 09:43:50

Hahahaha... based on the title alone, I almost died! Im glad you explained further in the rest of the post! haha. This book sounds like itll be really interesting to read!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 11:22:43

When on tour please come to New England. Boston or something would be fantastic! and i cant wait to get this lovely novel (:

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 12:14:40

Im moving to Leaky too. At least Melissa is an actually talented writer- I loved her book. Wonder what she thinks of this? Ill go and see.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 12:30:22

I didnt pick up the first one, but this one strikes me as very interesting. I;ve always been a fan of the whole, "what would you have done", or the "what could have been done better" discussions, so I might pick this one up.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 12:39:54

WOOOOOOOP! I cant wait for this to come out!! It sounds FANtastic =D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 15:51:32

omg! another book! I sooooooooo cant wait to read it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 16:11:24

I hate books were there are pointless deaths, BUT HARRY POTTER IS NOT ONE OF THEM!!!!! EVERYONE DIED FOR A REASON! Hedwig-end of childhood. Mad eye-Heros die in wars. Dobby, Colin, and Fred-deaths happen in wars to the great and innocent. Tonks and Lupin-brings story full circle. She didnt kill nobodies because in wars NO ONE IS SAFE and these deaths had a greater emotional impact on the reader, a good story provocts emotions. This book is talking about the "what ifs" and I am glad that they ask these questions and that they are keeping the fandom alive. I think this title is only used to bring up feelings and the mood of controversy by putting a contreversial title. Half of us wouldnt complain if it said something totally different.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 16:28:55

YAYYYY come to Chiago!!!!!! old orchard again would be nice :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 16:32:58

really? cos I tried to read Melissas book and was bored out of my mind... no offense of course... but the Mugglenets what will happen in book 7 completely enthralled me! Not sure about my opinions on this one yet...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 16:37:14

and yeah, hpfan444... I totally agree... they should come to seattle... and it should be before my required english book reading event is due... a good excuse to see them :-)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 18:25:59

ong! im totally going to buy the book when it comes out!!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!!!! !! especially since i have their "1st" book!!!! =]

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 18:31:33

misleading title to sell more books, great work. Why would you make that your title if you dont believe in it? Just to make headlines and publicity, ace. Nice going guys, I think its a tad low.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 18:47:52

You know..No offense to the writers of this, but if people really GET harry potter, then they will know that he had the choice to die, he did not HAVE to go back and do the final battle with LV, but he choose to, I dont understand why anyone would WANT him to die, or say he should have....JK made the choice to have Harry..in the end live..and it was a smart decisoin. If she would have killed off Harry, It would have made Dumbledore look unwise, and a user. Harry suffered enough hard ships in his life, to have killed him off, would not have been a story of triumph, love, and bravery, but of sadness and death. I think it ended just right, and wish people who disagree would re read the books and REALLY take them make annotaions in them really understand everything in them, before u say someone as important as harry should have lived or died.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 21:11:10

Why is everybody fixating on the part of the book on the plot of DH? Emerson said himself in this post that the title is refering to the buzz of Harry Potter, and that they are standing up for the Harry Potter fandom continuing. Is it going to be released in Australia? I hate it when the Southern Hemisphere misses out on stuff!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-06 23:59:42

I dont like it. I wont buy it. I wont read it. Emerson has said that hes less of an HP fan than he used to be, he just wrote this book for money and attention.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 01:53:31

Just my opinion, but why do these guys think their opinions and analysis are important enough to warrant charging people money for them? No thanks, Ill pass.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 06:04:37

people make me giggle. dont you read the posts?! they (well, emerson) didnt want harry to die. they are DISCUSSING. POPULAR. BELIEFS. ABOUT. THE BOOK. sheesh. ill buy it :D

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 11:33:50

AWESOME! I lookf orward to reading it! And I must admit ... I think Harry (the character) should have died too, though I am glad he didnt!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 13:49:05

Harry shouldnt have died. The end is perfect just as it is! :D I looooove DH.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 16:22:52

That is like....totally rad as crap. Cant wait to read it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 17:38:50

I think he should have died. His semi "dying" was kind of lame. I mean, why not just go all the way... but I like Harry, so its okay...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-07 21:11:29

yayy!! i want to read this book! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-08 00:09:34

Ooh please come to seattle on tour!!! Oh my goodness I am so glad the title is misleading it freaked me out when I read it!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-08 19:02:49

I cant wait for the book and the tour! You guys should definitely go to Boston so I can go. C=

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-08 20:53:39

Ooooh, look at all this controversy! ;) Muahahahahaha!!!! *rubs hands together menacingly* Admit it, we all love it as HP fans! I dont think Ill buy the book, just because theres nothing whatsoever that I would change about DH! But if Ben and Emerson want to write about HP some more, and of course make money, thats their right. Itll be interesting to see how it all turns out! ;)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-05-09 04:34:41

sevviesnapples: I agree with u. I was merely stating that I hated the deaths, and I went overboard, remember. I had to get it out somehow. lol But yea, that was y they died. I knew a Weasley would die, but Fred was unexpected. I ruled Percy, Bill, and Arthur out, as well as the twins, Ron and Ginny. I thought it would be Molly or Charlie. I was wrong. It was Fred. Colin struck me as VERY unexpected, because he had such a minor role, I didnt think anyone would care. But it was honorable he stood and died fighting as a Gryffindor. I agree. I knew there was a reason he made Gryffindor. I knew it, from Book 2. I knew hed do something in Book 7, (though I thought hed turn out to be something else besides dead.) ty

People, stop being mad at Emerson for thinking that Harry should have died. He specifically stated in the post that he DOESNT think that.

@lolmonkey, it isnt the opinion that is making people mad, more the fact that theyre trying to make money off of it. Isnt voicing their opinions on the site and in the podcast enough? We can come here to discuss the books and read their opinions for FREE, why the need to make a profit from it? No one is forcing anyone to buy the book, true, but to make profit off of HP and saying things like what should have happened is just insulting, imho. JKR chose to write the series, including the ending how she saw fit and she is the writer. Using words like should is like saying that her work as the author isnt good enough. So you love the HP series so much you dedicate a fansite to it, but now you feel the need to criticise her choice of ending? Wut? Since when was Jo supposed to write for the fans. She started the series on the basis that she really liked the idea and she had no idea that the series would take off. She has stated shed never change the development of the plot to please the fans. I guess having your work analysed to pieces is a down side to your work being popular during and even before its release. Should is a slap in the face as far as giving a constructive critique is concerned.

Wow, I looked at the comments expecting people to be all excited about the book (like me), and find that the majority of people think that Emerson is just using it as a way to make easy money? I actually dont think thats the case...the topic of the book seems intriguing enough, and I can imagine that he just got enthusiastic about the idea and felt it was something which would be fun to do. The money is just the icing on the cake. I will definitely be buying this, because I love thinking about what could have happened in the last book...you could say its a way for me to keep my love for the series alive. And, oh yeah, it seems like some posters are under the impression that the book is offensive to Jo? I honestly dont understand why people think that. MuggleNet is just exploring different possiblities...nothing wrong with that. Its not like theyre saying that the book would have been better if it had a different outcome. Nor are they saying that Jo should have written it in a different way. The title uses the word "should" for no other reason but to draw in readers.
