JKR expects some 'bereavement' after Book 7
She also spoke about life after Harry: "On the one hand, I am going to feel sad. Harry's been an enormous part of my life and it's been a turbulent phase of my life and he was always the constant. So there will be a sense of bereavement. But there will also be a sense of liberation because there are pressures involved in writing something as popular. Wonderful though it's been, I think that there will also be a certain freedom in escaping that particular part of writing Harry Potter.
"I feel quite liberated, I can just resolve the story now. And it's fun in a way that it hasn't been before, because finally I'm doing my resolution."

cool! 1ST?
SECOND!!! OMG THIS IS THE BEST I HAVE GOT SO FAR
She is right. It is good she can finish it definately.
Wow, I am going to be so sad when the books are over. I can't wait for books seven!
either way, itll be sad for us all when its over
My god theres been a lot of updates in the past hour. I don't want book seven to come out
i dont want it to be over....i seriously think i am gonna cry!
Wow, I actually got first post! Ya! But I'll be sad too...
sniff...sniff... WA!!!!! the end is so near! Don't let it be over! WAAAA!!!!
Dont want it to end :(
*sigh* i knew this day would come soon...i heart you JKR!!!! don't stop writing :-)
I don't want it to end either...this is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE thing to post. :-(
I want to read the 7th book but then again I don't want it to be over!!
whether this is good or bad for Potter fans, i still love her and the story...
this is great!
Aww...I 1/2 and 1/2. I really really wanna find out what happens in Book 7, but I'm terrified to end the series. Harry Potter is such a big part of my life, I'll be devasted to leave it behind! At least I'll have 2 more movies to look forward to. Then I can read the stories to my children (when I have them of course) Bur still, I'll be so dissapointed! :[ Ohh well, just look forward!
i dont want to stop writing i will miss the books a lot
She's going to kill Harry... I think that she is. And I will weep and weep but I won't hate her for it.
Im in complete agreement with GeorgeusGirl ... i dont want it to end, but am excited to read it, and it has been such a major part of my life and i am definetly going to pass my books down the generations and make my kids love them :-) JKR is amazing no matter how she ends it, i cant see that anyone will "loathe" her as she stated (or at least muggleneters wont bc i think weve covered every possible theory tht may happen in the end :-P ). oh well, we still have a whole year til it comes out, whether u view tht short or long, thts ur opinion.
i cant wait to read it.... but once it's over i know i'll probably be sad because there will be no more excitement and speculation about what's going to happen next. also i will probably be in tears for whichever characters die : (
OMG I WISH I WAS THERE IN NYC RIGHT NOW!!! ok, now that that's out of my system... I agree 100% with HarrysWay and GeorgeusGirl...
I sorta can't wait till the 7th book...although I can because it is going to suck just knowing that there won't be anymore books afterwards. I know that there isn't going to be anymore books afterwards, but it will really hit me when I finish reading the book...call me a book worm if you will.
Anyone noticed her necklace, it's a serpent. Looks cool :)
It is usually said that 'Good Things Must Always Come To An End'... I wish this wasn't the case but we must face the fact that this cannot last forever! Our theories for the ending are in fact 'never-ending' so if we haven't yet figured a theory on how it will end...then i must add that JKR has more up her sleeve than we give her credit for!
uh..."bereavement"? i'm worried about the deaths...
I don't mind the series coming to an end if she keeps Harry alive. If she kills him off the bereavement will be doubly felt. Could she possibly be so cruel as to kill Harry off? Is she rich enough to transfer herself and all her family to Mars? Because she will certainly need to if she bunks Harry off!
I'll be so sad that its over! But I can understand what she's saying! It will still be sad to have it finally end! *tear*
Everything seems to be coming to an end! Harry Potter, A Series of Unfortunate Events (yes, I can't help it, I'm hooked on that too)... I can't imagine ever loving a book series as much as Harry Potter. I will be so mad if some other author tries to change it to "Tarry Notter" or something stupid and continues to write books, butchering the whole thing, like ten years from now. It will never be the same. I bet lots of other new authors are going to start writing books with similar themes, once Harry Potter is done, but I'm probably not going to bother reading any of them. GorgeousGirl, HarrysWay, I'll be feeling the same way....that I can't wait for it to come out, but then I'll be depressed for a little bit when it's done. Even if Harry doesn't die, it'll kind of feel like he did, without ever reading any more adventures about his life. :(
I agree. I'll be waiting in line at Midnight when book 7 hits, but I'll also be in tears. Parting is such sweet sorrow. :(
I'll miss the books...I want to read the seventh book, and I *don't* want to read it. I'll miss Harry...even if he isn't real. Oh well. BTW, Jo looks great.
I have excruciating anticipation for book 7. I am completely torn with wanting to get my hands on book 7 yet I don't want to read it. When I do, that's it - THE END. Yes, there will be two movies left to watch, but as we all know, they are NOTHING like the brilliant writing that JKR has given us.
"I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it." Muhahahahahahaha!!!! Harry's a goner...
Gosh, i Love Jo. Nothing she would Ever write in the last book would make me like them less (unless of course, voldy survives and the wizarding world remains in chaos.). This seems like another clue that harry might die, but then again... well, who knows honestly? Can't wait, Can wait for book seven. I'll probably cry at the midnight party. Last one. haha.
come on.most of you are being a bunch of babies.i love the harry potter series more than anything but im not sad that its ending im just really really eager to find out whats going to happen!!!
I will be really sad when the series ends. I mean what am I going to read after its done? I can't wait for the seventh book!!
Argh! What misleading reporting! Both articles said she confirmed she would kill of two main characters, but that's not what that announcement a while back was all about. Two *additional* characters will die, meaning it's a confirmed "at least three." And, ack--doesn't look good for the *** is still alive camp. Also, is anyone else disturbed that more people complain when a fictional dog is kicked to death than when a human character is brutally murdered? I just don't know ...
oh my God she's already on the resolution...??? I'm going to cry. what will I do when it's over?? just sob and sob and sob like the rest of yall. let's form a support group.
No, it does not sound good for Harry, either, though things could get awkward from a technical writing perspective. Everything is in limited omniscient, focusing on Harry, save three scenes: The beginning of Gof, "The Other Minister," and the Snape / Narcissa / Bellatrix encounter. All those precede any other action in the books. Now, I imagine the epilogue will change to full omniscient or objective, but how about the end of the narrative? Can she shift at the moment Harry would die? It'd have to go into objective or end at that moment, which doesn't seem to work. Can anyone else contribute here? Is this a seed for a new editorial?
so harry potter and the ?????????????? will come out whan ???????????? i have read the books 3 times and me and my mom are trying to figure out what gunna happen by reading more carfuly and gong on line everyday to see if anything changes... but if 2 people are diying that's a all new descution in its self!!!!!!!!!!! gosh can't you hurry up !!!!!!!!!! i'm getting bored of reading all the same stuff everyday!!!!!!!!!!!... book 1...book 2...book 3...book 4...book 5...and book 6... i mean come on please hurry up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a completely unrelated note, has anybody noticed how "I won't even dignify that with a response" is indeed a response itself?
r4v3ncl4w: I don't see Harry's death causing any problems from a writing perspective. If he dies, Jo will simply change to third person, no biggie. It will also probably happen very near the end, perhaps right before the epilogue.
I kinda know what she means. I've written a book that I want to get published. I was working on it for a long time and when I finally finished it I felt half happy and half sad. Cause I had worked on it for so long I was glad that i had finally finished it, but I put so much thought into it and I had nothing to replace it with. As far as the deaths go, yea I expect there'll be some who think it's ridiculous and some who thinks it's all right, that's just how it works.
That is so cool! And I don't want Harry to end! Watch me cry when I get the last book. But I guess we all knew this day would come...
In a way, I'm happy about the seventh book because it means we'll finally know happens to Harry. But I don't want the series to end. I'm so gonna cry...
crazy_ned - Yeah, that does make sense, but I'm still hung up on the idea of shifting POV instantaneously. Granted, it's an easy shift, as it's limited omniscient, but we see everything through Harry's green eyes (save those three exceptions). It still seems problematic to me, but maybe I'm looking into this a little too much.
She's DONE?
When she says that some will be sad and some will be happy with the death in book seven, that can only refer to one person. SNAPE!!!!. Who else is both liked and disliked by the mugglenet universe. I mean is he bad or isnt he, will he die protecting Harry or trying to kill Harry. There is no other charater that brings out such emotion from the readers. I mean lets look at the death that could occour. Harry, sad Ron or Hermione, sad McGonnagal, Hagrid, Tonks, Remus, Mad Eye, sad Any other member of the Weasleys or Order, sad Now the other person she could be talking about is Draco, so in my opinion it is one of those two. And if it is SNape, my, I hope he goes out in a blaze of glory.
Cool article. I'm definitely thinking that Harry's going to die. Some people will "loathe" the resolution? Rowling believes she's "toughening up readers"? And the main theme of the series is, according to Rowling, death. Yeah... things don't look too good for Harry.
deatheatertwo - That's a bold claim. I'm not altogether sure I agree, particularly when Harry's the main character we see unflinchingly for almost the entire series. He's the strong character who really drives *everything.* I think it'd be *horrible* for him to die, any way I look at it. Also, Ron seems to have a huge fanbase, if I can't particularly understand why. So there's another divider--characterlove vs. mehness.
I kind of agree with SF_McCaul.... I mean, two people are going to die, right? (not including side-deaths, of course, like the little deaths we see in every book...) Now, I think we can all agree that after all of this, Voldemort's got to die. So that leaves room for only one main character to die besides Voldemort (if two people will die), and it just isn't likely that the whole trio will survive this, so who's it going to be? Ron might sacrifice himself. I don't think Hermione's going to die. Besides, wouldn't we like to see the two of them live and get married or something? Perhaps, somehow, Voldemort and Harry will kill each other.
