Re-cap: JKR press conference
Re-cap: JKR press conference JK Rowling, John Irving, and Stephen King participated in a press conference this morning in NYC and will all be reading from their respective novels tonight in Radio City Music Hall. We now have a transcript of everything Jo said at the conference (thanks to staffers Lei, Becky and Natalie), as well as audio here, photos here and here, and a media report here. Enjoy!

If you have any photos or reports from this morning, please let us know. Also, Jo will be answering questions posed by the audience at her reading tonight, so if you're planning on attending, please let us know what she says.

this is great!

Posted by kimchee Aug 1st 2006

Did anyone else hear the "couple of characters will die, and one will get a reprieve part." IT's confirmed that more than one person will die in book 7!!!!

Posted by beakany Aug 1st 2006

thats SO awesome!

Posted by uknowho Aug 1st 2006

i totally agree with them. as much as i respect jkr and her decisions, killing harry would be such a dpressing ending,

Posted by sugarquill Aug 1st 2006

that is VERY sweet... :)

Posted by Cuivienen Aug 1st 2006

I'm going to her reading (tomorrow night, not tonight). It would be so awesome if she revealed the title while I was there. I don't think she'll reveal it first in the US, though...

Posted by appleannie Aug 1st 2006

I'm so sorry, I love JKR just like everyone else, but doesn't she look absolutely exhausted? She doesn't seem to be herself in the pictures from this morning.

Posted by BellatrixL Aug 1st 2006

Thank you so much for posting this fantastic transcript Mugglenet! Great job! Is there any way to get a video of it too?

Posted by Magic_and_Castles Aug 1st 2006

Awesomeness!

Posted by ECDWman1 Aug 1st 2006

This random but I noticed this today. I was reading Half-Blood Prince again and I noticed something. When Kreacher nad Dobby came in the common room with information on Malfoy, they had apperated into the coomon room. But wasen't Herminoe going on and on about that rule" You can't apperate inside Hogwarts" blah blah. The why did J.K let Dobby and Kreacher apperate?

Posted by colourmeconfused Aug 1st 2006

appleannie - well, a birthday followed by travelling to New York can do that to you, I'd imagine XD Poor Jo. But yay, this is exciting!

Posted by Magic_and_Castles Aug 1st 2006

Just read the transcript, why did this bit make me laugh so much :-P "I’ve always been a huge [couldn’t hear]" :-P

Posted by silverlala Aug 1st 2006

ECDWman1 house elves and just elves in general can do many things that wizards cannot do... so apperating and such is one of them... I think that's what happens....maybe look in the HP encylapedia thingie to make sure...

Posted by zachattack Aug 1st 2006

Very Cool!! So much info! I love u Jo!!!!

Posted by Lillibet Aug 1st 2006

I am really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really worried that Harry's going to die now... i had convinced myself that it wouldn't make sense.. that she wouldn't kill him off... but now I think it sounds like she will! :'( Possibly Ron and Hermione too.... It definately doesn't sound as if she's going for a "One Big Happy Weasley Family" ending, which I was secretly hoping for!

Posted by chad Aug 1st 2006

does anyone knoe when the LeakyMugs will be up

Posted by ConCon Aug 1st 2006

Cool! There's a ton of new info today!

Posted by dracomalfoy Aug 1st 2006

I am the only one who noticed that she was wearing a "SNAKE NECKLACE" ... WOOT! She is SOOOO SLYTHERIN!!!! GO SLITHERIN!!!

Posted by smurff Aug 1st 2006

Haha niiice I actually didn't notice the snake necklace until just now. I'm not going to lie, I love slytherin :D:D ;)

Posted by lupislune Aug 1st 2006

Stephen King looks really funny. Its looks like he lost a ton of weight. I really was hoping for a clue or a relevation of something.

Posted by Issie Aug 1st 2006

"We're working toward the end I always planned but a couple of characters I expected to survive have died and one character got a reprieve," she [JK Rowling] said, declining to elaborate. I'm hoping that she brings Sirius back, b/c his "death" was questionable, so it would be plausible that he came back. I really want it to be Sirius.

Posted by bkwrm0502 Aug 1st 2006

I just came back from the book reading...I have got to tell you, it was absolutely amazing. I'm more in love with JKR than ever!

Posted by Fluffy Aug 1st 2006

@ Issie: I hope it's Sirius too, since he's my favorite character, but I don't think it's very likely or she would have brought him back in HBP. She has to at least say what happened to him. Maybe he's just hiding... I really hope Sirius comes back!

I was there, orchestra row W seat 204...the very very last row in the auditorium. But the people next to me (seats 202 and 203) won some sort of contest and they got moved to the seats right in FRONT of the stage. I almost died from jealousy (as bad as it sounds)!!! But i couldn't help but envy them...if this was you...you two are soooo lucky!!! Anyway, the reading was amazing....she read the part where Dumbledore visits young Tom Riddle in the orphanage and tells him that he is a wizard. When she walked onto the stage, everyone jumped up in their seats, people were screaming, I was howling and I couldn't help the tears that were just pouring down my face. It was unbelievable. Nothing could have prepared me for the shock of seeing JKR in person. And I met a little boy while waiting in line to get in who got a real autograph from her earlier today at the press conference (his mother snapped a picture of JRK on her phone). And a lady next to me fainted from the heat. All in all, what a night!!! JRK is amazing, beautiful, so incredibly inspiring, and hearing her voice reading outloud the passages we know so well...words don't do the whole experience justice.

Posted by jenjen9ny Aug 1st 2006

I was soooclose to EMERSON ok i had orchestra 6 area GG seat 609 he was in the same row but the box next to me Emerson just want to let you know your awesome!!!!! also when JKR came on stage i almost cryed seriously i was holding it in I was so happy !!!!!!

Posted by istolethehorcrux Aug 2nd 2006

Oh God. I cried. I laughed manically. It was so AMAZING. I had such an eventful three hours. I got there late because the busses were stuck in traffic and I was having a nervous breakdown, but we got there in time and while I was heading toward Radio City Music Hall I pass by this guy who is staring at my shirt and I notice that it is EMERSON and I freaked out but he was gone before I could get a picture or anything. Then we get inside and I was all jittery and crazy and finally it all started. There were celebrity presenters which was a surprise. Stephen King went first, then Joh Irving and of course J.K. was saved for last and I went nuts. It was sooo good. I was in utter shock. Then she answered some questions. Some weren't as good but I think the first was best. Someone asked what Hermione would see if she looked into the mirror of erised and J.K.'s response was her, Harry and Ron together, unscathed, and Voldemort defeated and perhaps Hermione would be a little bit closer and intwined with a particular boy, but she did not disclose which boy =P of course. Everyone went wild. Other questions were about muggles and potion making and other wandcores and wandmakers. J.K. also discussed the online fandom and the dreaded infamous shipping wars and all the fans laughed ridiculously loudly. J.K. was like "some people wanted Harry and Hermione." and some people went nuts and she goes "There's still some of you out there?! Why?" or something like that, it was funny. It was overall the best night of just about ever. I was on teh second mezzanine though so I was pretty far away but I am still so shocked that I was in the same room as her. I cried a lot. And I've also been kicking myself for being stupid and not running to catch up with Emerson for a picture!!! GAHHH
