Coverage: JKR's first charity reading
MuggleNet was in attendance earlier tonight at the first of two charity readings co-hosted by JK Rowling. The show opened up with celebrity actress Whoopi Goldberg praising children for their interest in reading. Next, actress Kathy Bates provided a detailed introduction for Stephen King. She talked about her obsession with King, along with the roles she's played in his film adaptations.
A surprise appearance by Jon Stewart stoked the crowd up when he came on stage to introduce JK Rowling. Typical Jon Stewart, in his speech, he described how his five-month-old son has been standing outside of a bookstore waiting for Book 7 for three months now. At the end of his speech, he said he should be sitting out there with all of us.
With that said, a video to introduce Jo had her in her home holding a yellow portfolio. In it, she said, was the final chapter of Book 7. "I feel like the camera will be able to see right through this if it's too close," she remarked.
A gigantic standing ovation met Jo as she walked out onto the stage in her special high-heels (with a snake on each). With the warm welcome out of the way, she grabbed her US paperback copy of Half-Blood Prince and began reading at the part where Dumbledore takes Harry back in time to when he originally found Tom Riddle.
After reading, Jo took five or six questions from the audience. The first one asked what Hermione would see in the Mirror of Erised, to which Jo replied she would probably see Voldemort dead, and herself and Ron living happily ever after. Another question had Jo responding that we'll find out more about how potions and the connection between a wand and a wizard work in Book 7.
Tomorrow we will have a report on night two of An Evening with Harry, Carrie, and Garp!

Haha thanks DecemberDrops. The problem is most of my friends are gone this summer. One is in England (she was so pissed when she realized that JKR was coming here) and so I'm emailing her the write-ups about the chairity night. I'm waiting until she gets home so I can call her and gush about it (it's easier on the phone). Lol. Of course she might hang up on me because I met Melissa, Emerson, and the MuggleCast boys. Haha. Yay for nice comments! I'm putting together a corkboard dedicated solely to An Evening with Harry, Carrie, and Garp and all of these nice comments about my question are definitely being printed out. Thanks.
OMG ITS JO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmn... Interesting. I have a newspaper clippings which reads "Hermione would probably see herself, Harry and Ron together, safe and unscathed. Hermione would also be entwined with another person," Rowling added, drawing screams from the crowd. Did she actually say Ron? If so then "another person" is probably the newspapers way of preventing people from being spoiled (not that it's a spoiler since it's so obvious they'll be together).
No, Jo said with another person however since she has said that it is Ron and Hermione, it's obvious who the other person was that she was refering to. She said later that night that "some people wanted Harry and Hermione" and when people cheered she also said "Let it go."
Thank-you so much for the clarity, the_chosen_girl! That's what I assumed, but I wanted to make sure. :-)
Haha no problem. It helps me because I'll have to remember every detail next week when my friend gets back from England and I fill her in.
I was there and it was absolutely amazing!!!! I cried I was so happy. Yes, I know I'm quite pathetic, but it was my first time seeing Jo. She was brilliant and her shoe were the best. Haa. The Leaky Mug rocked, too. Now, I'm back home and missing New York already.
You're not pathetic, I was nearly in tears when I was walked up to ask her a question. Thank god I have a minute or two to try and calm down. It was my first time seeing her in person too.
Sorry, I meant had* not have.

Um, yeah, I'm that friend. If she (the_chosen_girl) wasn't my best friend and I didn't absolutely love her, I would completely hate her right now. I was actually in Edinburgh on the night of the first reading. It was quite possibly the cruelist irony imaginable.
