MuggleNet's new book - in stores now!
MuggleNet's new book - in stores now! You can pick it up at your local bookstore or you can order it on Amazon here! Go - do it!!

. . . IN RELATED NEWS, earlier this week, Gaby and I launched GivesMeHope.com (GMH) - "Like FMyLife, but for optimists!" It's a FOR CHARITY website where people share their most hopeful, uplifting moments. Or another way of saying it - it's a collection of "Bite-sized, Chicken Soup Stories for the Twitter Generation."

The response has been incredible. You guys did an AMAZING job spreading our message of hope - the website received 185,000 hits in its first 24 hours! Wow! We were voted the #1 story on Digg.com, ranked one of the "Top 10 Hottest Urls" of May 31st, and also got written up in several newspapers and magazines, including Esquire.com.

As I mentioned in my last post, GMH is a cause that I believe in so strongly, I'm going to donate every penny I receive in proceeds from the sale of our new book to promoting GMH.

I'm proud to announce today we have selected a charity to align the website with: GivesMeHope will be used to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It is consistently rated as one of the most efficient and effective charities, and I've seen the impact my local Boys and Girls Club has made in my community. It's definitely an organization whose mission is aligned with ours.

So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to everybody for all your support. I have read over 1000 of your stories, and I'm just brimming with hope and optimism for our future. As you can tell, I can't even contain my excitement. I hope you'll continue to visit the website, and help Gaby and I spread our message of hope! THANK YOU!!

EDIT: Thank you for all of the positive feedback on the book. We're so glad you guys enjoy it - we had a blast writing it!

i got my book on monday, and i gotta say i'm really enjoying it!

Posted by tonks_394 Jun 5th 2009

Wait so the money from you book is going to the website so that the money from the website can go to charity? Am I missing something? Wouldnt it be more effective to just send the money from the book straight to the Boys and Girls club or atleast split the profits between them because how is the webite going to make any kind of money that could compaire to money from a booksale?

Posted by fliz Jun 5th 2009

This is what I found. http://www.chapters.indig o.ca/books/Mugglenet-coms -Harry-Potter-Should-Emer son-Spartz/9781569757116- item.html?ref=Search+Book s%3a+%2527Harry+Potter+Sh ould+Have+Died%2527 Is it the same book?

Posted by camken Jun 5th 2009

I'm on my way to buy it right now.

Posted by hptwilighter Jun 5th 2009

I'm about half way through with your book and it's so funny and informative at the same time. The D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L bit was the best and SO Emerson. Haha. Guess I'll go check out that website, BRILLIANT idea.

It's lovely that you're giving people hope in light of what might be very dark times for some, but is it not possible to donate at least a small part of these earnings to people who are truly, desperately in need? Lots of people have Internet connections and can feel inspired by beautiful stories. Lots of people want to inspire other people. But there are also people who can't afford computers. I think it's great that Mugglenet wants to help the world by promoting hope and happiness, but I also think there are many, MANY other charities out there that could potentially help more people than GMH might be able to do, noble as its mission is. Perhaps a fraction of the earnings could go to these places?

Posted by emma_sophia Jun 5th 2009

SaskiaM- It says that he's gonna donate the proceeds from the book to GMH, and all the money from GMH will be given to The Boys and Girls club. Bit why not just directly give the money from the book to The Boys and Girls Club?

Posted by SaskiaM Jun 5th 2009

Oh, I see -- I thought the money was going to be used to promote GMH, which would then be used to PROMOTE The Boys and Girls Club, rather than giving money to it... that makes a lot more sense. Thank you! But yes, I agree.

Posted by i_am_hermione Jun 5th 2009

Can't wait to read the book, I'm asking for it for my birthday this month... I never spend any money in June. Also I know the Boys and Girls Clubs are really suffering, our local branch actually had to close for a while. Great idea!

Posted by javan_weasley Jun 5th 2009

this looks interesting, i might get but does anyone know if it gonna be in libraries

Posted by krazykobra29 Jun 5th 2009

yayy! i will be looking for this book!!

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Jun 5th 2009

Great job mugglenet. Ugh I want to get this book sooo badly, but I need to wait until my mom can take me to the closest bookstore, which is a few towns away. Not to mention she got surgery at the beginning of the week, so she can't drive for awhile. Oh well, atleast I'm pacient. And I'm sure the book is great.

Amazon shipped me the book over a week early (came a shock to me) - thoroughly enjoyed it! Insightful, tons of information. BRAVO on all the hard work! The infusion of humor added to the fun and it was super enjoyable to read. Some little details I had forgotten about, and then other points brought up were things I hadn't even thought of before - adds a whole new dimension to the story for me. The series has such a wealth of topics to discuss and analyze (always knew that, but reading the book put my brain in that frame of mind - once that ball gets rolling, it's hard to stop it, lol). Super great job with book! And I absolutely love GMH as well! Awesome!

Posted by HPFanatic2478 Jun 5th 2009

To those people commenting on how the proceeds should go directly to the Boys and Girls Club, it was my impression that Emerson and Gaby wanted to provide hope and inspiration to people through their site, and also help out charities. Therefore I think they made the decision to allocate the money as they will with that in mind. If they donated straight to charities, they probably wouldn't have the money to start up the website the way they would like.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Jun 6th 2009

Yay!! I can't wait to read it! I loved the book they wrote about book 7...it made the wait before Deathly Hallows so much more bareable. And right now I'm re-reading the entire series, so this book came at the perfect time!!!

Posted by pieps Jun 6th 2009

The book is awesome! My girlfriend and I were laughing like crazy at the "which is the cheesest movie moment?" question. Way to go guys! And to rinaanne, wayta read the book in a bookshop and not buy it and then tell everyone that you did. Brutal.

Posted by tonks654 Jun 6th 2009

love the book!!!! read it twice in 3 hours!! givesmehope.com is an amazing place

Posted by HarryPotterFreakers Jun 6th 2009

I was at our local bookstore last weekend and I saw Mugglenets book there and I was so excited. I got it right away. I have had a busy week so I havent been able to read much of it, but it looks amazing!

Posted by PotterGeek24 Jun 6th 2009

I just bought the book today and I'm halfway through. I love it!! It'd make a good argument topic for my public speaking class!

Posted by iheartbooks Jun 6th 2009

I really do want to read this, but I don't think I can stand to look at a book that has "Harry Potter Should Have Died" shouting from the front cover. It just makes me really sad. :(

Posted by BellatrixCrucioYou Jun 6th 2009

Ahh! I bought this yesterday! I love it. I really like how it has both sides. I found my self agreeing and changing my mind about stuff. I also found my self disagreeing. Its an awesome book!

Posted by dark_nymph Jun 6th 2009

Wow, that's so nice of you guys! Maybe I'll have to give it a try after all. Also, I visited GMH today, and it's a really great site, y'all should check it out, and maybe even post! :)

Posted by Dojh167 Jun 6th 2009

So, looks like Barnes and Noble has deemed this a "children's book." Lovely, since I don't really see a lot of kids reading it. Not to mention the irony, what with the contained discussion of whether Rowling's work is for children or adults.

Posted by Glowstick Jun 6th 2009

My brother-in-law and my wife found the book title to be controversial. My support of GMH is not. Congratulations on including the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Posted by luvroharry Jun 6th 2009

OMG!!!!! This book is awesome! I just got it today at Borders and my mom and I have been having really deep discussions about the questions posed in the book. It is so interesting and well though out!! JUST SO YOU KNOW: In the intro it says that Ben is a host on Mugglenet's popular podcast MUGGLESPACE. this is a typo right because it is really bugging me! How could you guys have missed something like that??

Posted by ren_15 Jun 7th 2009

ridiculous name, to be honest.

Posted by javan_weasley Jun 7th 2009

your a ridiculous name lol jk

Posted by ShainaWeasley Jun 7th 2009

I GOT IT!

Posted by Aliyah95 Jun 7th 2009

That's so great! My copy of your book is supposed to come tomorrow; I can't wait!

Posted by keraunoscopia Jun 8th 2009

You'll donate every penny in proceeds... Net proceeds or gross proceeds... because by wording this as vaguely as everyone else, you could very well be making cash with this book. Not that you don't deserve it, I'm sure.

Posted by hpfan4ever07 Jun 8th 2009

The Borders near where I live totally had this book a day early. I got it on May 31!!!!

Posted by trueligth Jun 8th 2009

I do not have the book, I will like to read the book to see want they see about the end in the book. And I hope the donation go to the place where it supost to, not because I do not trust you guys, but you never know.
