The British Board of Film Classification has confirmed today an earlier report that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will have an official run-time of 153 minutes. The film has also been given a 12A rating, the equivalent of PG-13 here in the United States. Thanks to Leaky for the tip!

Wicked. thats far more continual than it being PG. that woulda sucked, PG movies are usually pretty lame. Plus 153 minutes is a pretty epic time. Could still be longer though...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 10:53:45

Good! Top 3!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:04:52

So in America its rated PG, and in Britan its rated PG-13? That seems a little odd.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:09:08

so excited!!!!! 2 hours and 33 minutes! wonder how long the credits will run for :-) still excited tho

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:09:38

I think the PG-13 equivalent is good, cos that gives me hope that our PG rating may be more like a PG-13 movie

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:36:28

Good. This gives me hope about David Yates. When they announced he would be filming the remainder of films Part 2 of DH would be 90 mins.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:51:39

what hermionesfuturehusband ??? DH Part 2 will ONLY be 90 minutes??? Might as well include it in the 1st part! lol. And PG-13 has NOTHING to do on whether the director is the best or not, cuz YAtes is the BEST! Screw us Americans and our LAME Ratings.. and FUCKK YOU MPAA!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 11:56:56

I wish theyd been making all these films at three hours... Or more... Im glad theyre splitting up the 7th, and that they are making this one 2.5 hours. And as for the rating, I dont think it really affects the quality of a movie at all. I think since the MPAA gave The Dark Knight PG-13, when it was so intenese and disturbing, giving this the same seemed a little outlandish. But really TDK could have been PG-15 or something...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:19:09

Good to know its actually 12A. PG would have been so stupid

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:27:04

Yey a decent running time!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:35:01

Actually, Granger345, like it says in the article, the British equivalent to PG-13 is 12A. In Britain, there is no PG-13. Theres U, PG, 12A, 15 and 18.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:41:38

Hey voldy_shmoldy, just curious but what does U stand for? (and for my username, I dont think that anymore, I was just pissed off when they changed the date, and that was when I made my account. I cant wait to see the movie!)

It cant be much longer than 153 minutes, otherwise they would not be able to show it in IMAX, which has a 160 minute run time restriction.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:48:11

Reebee52, I completely agree. There are two different levels of PG-13. Stuff like Dark Knight or Taken, thats intense and violent and stuff like Goblet of Fire which was nothing. The ratings should be G, PG, R, NC17, and in between PG and R would be PG-(13-17) so you know if its a Dark Knight movie and Goblet of fire movie.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:51:18

U is Universal. Means kids can see it without parents. Theres something like Uc or something as well but got NO idea what that means

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 12:54:10

cool, thanks

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 13:01:39

Reebee52 i can tell youre British, cuz theres no 15 rating in the USA, its just G, PG, PG-13, R, then NC17 lol

The MPAA is definitely becoming less stingy with movies lately. By the trailers, this movie looks like it should be PG-13, especially after seeing clips from the cave scene with the Inferi and the mild sensuality that is obviously in this film. The PG rating has been given to some very dark films lately. Dont get me wrong, I dont care about the rating; its hardly relevant, but its just a speculation that maybe the MPAA is becoming more "open" and less strict with the material being shown to younger audiences today. I also agree with a lot of you... PG-13 can be separated into levels. You have films like the Dark Knight, which is borderline R, and then you have Goblet of Fire, which falls between PG and PG-13 (the material is not insanely dark or sinister).

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 13:34:50

Oh, and another thing... Im glad it has a good, lengthy running time; I was actually a little worried David Yates would want to cut the movie short as he did with Order of the Phoenix. Apparently, according to people who went to test screenings, this movie is well balanced; theres just enough romance and just enough darkness to suffice the book-reading audiences. Im really glad Steve Kloves is back as screenwriter; I think he truly knows the art of adapting a book into a film.

Movie6isgonnastink: first of all, your name sux. second of all, U stands for Universa;. YES! Almost 154 mins (ALMOST) and 12a (PG-13). So I guess Half Blood Prince will be very borderline PG and light PG-13.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 14:03:34

ok um DH part two BETTER not really be 90 minutes. why make it a seperate part then?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 14:19:53

Movie6isgonnastink: U stands for Universal, generally anyone can view it. PG is Parental Guidance advised, because some scenes are inappropriate for young children. The rest of the ratings are pretty explanatory :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 15:15:02

i kinda miss the movies that used to be like 3 hours long.....this ones almost 2 hours....*sigh* oh well.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 15:18:16

actually slytherin15, its almost 2 and a Half. idk i hope this is good

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 15:25:16

what???!!!! ok now the MPAA or whatever needs to change our rating to PG-113!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 16:50:57

Sweeeet! And its getting SO CLOSE now! Im starting to get happy about Harry Potter again.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 18:03:20

Then whys the U.S.s only PG?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 18:04:52

hey, I just saw the brand new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood teaser today on tv on Nickoldeon channel which is aired around icarly show! The new teaser shows some brand new scenes! So, it was too fast to catch it and it would be nice if anyone saw it today and please report it!!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 18:29:50

Does this mean the mpaa is gonna change the rating to pg-13? I do hope so.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 18:47:13

wait, deathmagnetic- can you describe what you remember from the t.v clip?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 19:01:03

Thats great news!! I thougt it might be 12A over here. PG wasnt very appropriate considering how dark some of the trailers were. I suppose it doesnt really matter. Very excited about the length of the movie though!! Hope DH both parts are just as long! A good 6hour movie is just what we need!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 19:24:30

First off, whoever put that the 2nd part of DH is only 90 minutes has to be the biggest idiot...considering that they posted that on a newspost about the running time of HBP, WHOSE RUNNING TIME WAS RELEASED TODAY (A LITTLE OVER A MONTH BEFORE THE MOVIE IS RELEASED). Gahhh. lol well anyways, the rating means nothing. I mean, how can they make all of the ratings consistent? The only way would be to have one person watch and rate every single movie, and I doubt they do that. I dont think that the same people rate every movie, so it will never be consistent with anything else.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 19:56:56

i was really bummed when i heard the movie was only going to be PG. i was afraid it wasnt going to be able live up to that last two films which were PG-13 and in my opinion the best ones so far, but im glad they changed it. yay! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-10 22:51:43

153 minutes = Bliss

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 00:50:21

Why are we anxious about ratings? 153 = 2 hours 33 minutes. Crap. What if I need to pee?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 06:22:49

Heh sorry to reply like this, but if I could hold it during the lord of the rings movie, it can be held during potter. Besides make a bathroom trip before you go in. That should never hold you back from a good movie ;) I miss the 3 hour HPs, I wish they would have done the books with more storylines longer, and the ones with less shorter. Seems they have done the opposite. As we progess the movies get shorter, but the books more complex. This has never made sense to me, but heres to hoping for a nice long send off.. And PG-13, how is this possible?! With the deaths, and fights, and various other things... (bathroom scene anyone?) how can they rate it like this? A VERY INTERESTING NOTE: THEY CUT THE "SCARY" PARTS OUT OF THE TRAILER BEFORE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM. VERY MISLEADING TO PARENTS I WOULD THINK. (this includes infeiri, werewolves, and fighting and of course... THE NECKLACE) some parents are gonna be mad :P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 08:33:47

lol, I dont know how many times Im going to bring this point up, but 12A ISNT always the equivalent of PG13!! There are loads of films that in USA have been PG13, and over here in the UK have been 15! So stop saying its the same!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 09:09:27

I think the only reason it got a PG rating here is because Warner Brothers paid off the MPAA so that younger kids would be able to go see the movie and they would therefor make more money. I just saw the movie UP yesterday and its rated PG and Ive seen atleast 5 shots in the HBP trailer that are 20 times worse and definitely should be PG-13. But oh well...AS LONG AS THE MOVIE IS GOOD (which Im sure it will be) I DONT CARE WHAT THE RATING IS! Im so excited about the length!!! 153 MINUTES!!!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 10:07:07

This is funny! See U.S. people that determine the rating of movies! It SHOULD be PG-13!!!!!!!!! Mahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!... .. I so crazy! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 10:51:38

How do I change my name? I was just pissed they changed the date, so I made movie6isgonnastink my name, but now i think its gonna be great, so can I change my name? Or get a new account or something?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 11:13:21

that doesnt make any sense. how could it get that rating in the UK and get PG in the US? arent we the more conservative country? arent we the country that censors the word "gun"? hmmmm maybe we are lowering our standards.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 11:30:37

Yayyyy, 2 hours and 33 minutes! Sounds good to me!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 12:51:12

I can remember someone on these boards telling me it would be a PG and that Harry and Ginny fall over after they kiss, which is inappropriate for a PG rated film. Im glad I was right in thinking that it should be a 12, since WB are obliged to make the films increasingly dark. The scene where The Burrow is attacked seems like a 12 type sequence from the clips alone. The BFC are quite strict when it comes to violence, and if you think about all the attack, fight and murder scences that we already know are included, the 12 rating was a fore gone conclusion really.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 13:36:10

kali902000: Im probably being really dense and gullible, and I apologise if I am, but do you seriously censor gun? Wow. If thats true, I feel suddenly liberated.

the mpaa sucks...america sucks haha

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-11 20:51:59

Movie6isgonnasuck- I would suggest just making another username. I dont think you can change it cause I tried changing my old one. But that didnt work.... so now im this! :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-12 00:13:03

still dont get why in the u.s. the movie is rated PG and in Great England it PG-13 it makes no sense

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-06-13 09:19:08

To Phoenixknighter (wayyyy up the list) Im not actually British. I mean to use the PG-15 hypothetically, like it COULD be have been used for the Dark Knight. The reason PG13 cam out was after Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom upset some people because it was so dark, especially for some kids but no one thought it should have an R rating. So after that they created PG13. Little factoid for you.
