In a new interview with The Independent, actor Bill Nighy confirms that he will play the role of a good guy in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
Nighy gets his own magic show (at last)
Bill Nighy has an announcement. "I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he tells us. "I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig." If you don't mind us saying, it's about time, Bill. The rangy actor has been dropping hints for aeons, once complaining that he was "the only British actor who hasn't been in Harry Potter". But has he read the books? "Not yet, but I will!" he says. "It's rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?" Mm.
Although he never confirmed what role he had, David Yates once said he'd like the role of Scrimgeour to be played by Nighy. Thanks to Snitch Seeker and Maggie for the tip!

I think he would make a great Scrimgeour... hes played so many different roles, and he fits them each really well... I mean, he was excellent as Davey Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean. This is great, Im a big fan of Bill! =D

lol i thought of the science guy at first too lol.......anyway......I think he looks kind of like a Scrimgeour. Scrimgeour is supposed to seem strong, but aged, and not neccessarily muscular. When I read the books I pictured someone like Victor from Underworld. With the right makeup and hair I think hell do very well.

Awesome! I love him in Love Actually and of course Pirates of the Caribbean. I think hes probably going to be playing Scrimgeour. He has a really important scene in which he gives Harry, Ron, and Hermione all the stuff Dumbledore left to them. :D

i thought scrimgeour immediately. hed be a good xenophilius but scrimgeour needs some weight and seniority (more than xeno, who has also been cast already of course) and nighy could probably do it in his sleep. and he was fantastic in pirates of course. and for those of you who thought bill nye the science guy, come on now. bill nye is a pretty unmistakeable guy. even if you dont know nighy, you should be able to distinguish him from nye. *shudder*

And yes, Rhys whatever is playing Xeno. Also, I heard the scene with him giving Harry and all that Dumbledores things was cut? Werent they gonna replace that with DOBBY giving them the things, and the mirror that was cut in the 5th movie? Just what I heard... o.O

I wouldnt necessarily (or at all really) consider Scrimgeour to be a "good guy". I dont care if he died without revealing he knew where Harry was. He was not a good guy.
BUT, from Bills words, I dont necessarily think hes playing a good guy. He says a "goodie" which could just mean a good role - could be one of the deatheaters and he thinks its a good role to play....

When I read the book, I imagined Bill Nighy as Scrimgeour in my head. I had heard that Billy Connelly was to play Lunas dad, but someone else has been cast for that. Scrimgeour isnt a character that I would think of as a good guy, and Nighy says hes going to play a good guy. I hope hes Scrimgeour, it would be great casting.

Hes definitely playing Scrimgeour! That character has to be cast because of the Will of Albus Dumbledore scene in which Ron gets the Deluminator, Harry gets the Snitch, and Hermione gets the Tales of Beedle the Bard. Its a VERY important scene. And David Yates has already said that if he casts anyone to play Scrimgeour it will be Billy Nighy. So thats definitely who hes playing. Dedalus Diggle is short and is only in the book for like 2 seconds.

Perfect casting. Now, if they just couldve gotten the part of Narcissa casted correctly. Of course, I havent seen HBP yet, but from the pics I dont think they got it right. Somehow I pictured someone like Nicole Kidman, or the like. Casting Bill Nighy is right on the money though.

I ALWAYS imagined that Xenophilious Lovegood would be played by Jim Broadbent, and there would be a shorter Slughorn. But instead Xeno is being played by Rhys Ifans -- which is fine, because I think he can play off the quirkiness.
But yknow, I bet Bills getting Scrimgeour for sure since he has already played a vampire in the Underworld movies (if you guys havent noticed, he plays Viktor!) :)

Bill Nighy is a marvelous character actor! I am a great fan of his work. I think he will be an absolutely fantastic Scrimgeour! Now that he has been cast, I cant imagine anybody else that could do the character justice!
Even if his screen time will be quite limited, he will make an immediate and powerful instantaneous impact. Im looking forward to it!
