Fandango has posted a very cool video of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince scoring sessions at Abbey Road Studios.
The video depicts the orchestra, composer Nicholas Hooper, and several others making the mix. Definitely check it out if you're a fan of film scores!

I really hope John Williams comes back for Death Hallows. Its only right to have him finish what he started.

What a large orchestra! There appear to be 2 rather odd instruments that look like valve trombones with a bend so it can be fingered vertically.

Amazing job, Nicholas Hooper! While we may prefer John Williams at times, Nicholas Hooper has improved a lot since OOTP. Good opening score.

Id have to say Im much happier with Nicholas Hooper than if John Williams were to come back. While Williams is a great composer, and of course gave the music to HP its beginning, his work tends to sound very much the same from one work to another. If you listen to Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Harry Potter, you hear much of the same basic flow and almost the same sound, with slightly different tunes. Too bad its not Howard Shore!

I wish James Newton Howard wouldve scored at least one Potter movie because I LOVE his work...his score for Disneys Peter Pan was epic and amazing..."Flying" is now used by Disney for all of their marketing/ advertisements!! It is also my ring tone :)

Im glad theyre sticking with Hooper. While Williams themes were genius and brought the first films to life, OOTP was the first time when I was watching it and I thought; how good is this music. Keep the original themes but keep Hooper!

Did anyone else notice that the slow part of the song they play is just a slower, sadder, more romanctic version of Hedwigs theme?! Its so cool how much theyre re-mixed the original score John Williams created. Its brilliant!

I have learned that the unusual trombone like instrument is a Cimbasso. They are primarily used in opera. I have been around instrumental music for a long time and this is the first I every heard of them.

This is so nice to watch! Ive been waiting for something like this from a Harry Potter reording session! Its also nice to see Nicholas Hooper at work and really get familiar with how he actually looks!
Of course, I say it again and again, I wish John Williams comes back for the last. However, I am starting to like Hoopers work a little bit and if John Williams comes back, I hope to god they keep Nicholas Hooper rarther than bring in yet another composer! Also I would like to hear some of the old John Williams theme from the first movie incorporated into the next film.
And finally, does anyone think that this may be apart of the bonus material from the soundtrack album???

Im really liking what Ive heard of the score so far. OotPs soundtrack was just ok to me, but it sounds like Hooper has grown a lot as a composer. I would also like to have John Williams back for DH, but I dont see that happening. That being said Im sure Mr. Hooper will do a great job with it.

The only think I cant get over is the fact that David Yates is possibly passing on a once in a life time oppertunity, that I know most directors and film crews would love... Working with JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!!
