According to JWFan.net, Nicholas Hooper will not return to score Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Hooper has composed the soundtracks for both Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince.
The post states that the films have put "too great a strain on his family life" and that he believes a "certain composer" [John Williams] should complete the series he started.
Until we receiver further confirmation, please treat this as a rumor! Thanks to Matthew for the tip!

Im pretty sure well get some news about this soon, either from Williams himself or WB. Williams has expressed interest in composing the final films and Heyman (I think) has opened up the composer spot for the return of John Williams. I hope they make a wise decision on this--cant mess up the last two films.

Good, John Williams is way better.

Aww...I really like Hooper!! OOTP and HBP are the only soundtracks that I own. But of course John Williams is absolutely brilliant and Im sure composing films as big as the Harry Potters is NOT an easy job. Especially doing 4 of them back to back so it would make a lot of sense for Hooper not to return. But that doesnt mean we will get Williams. He may be too busy and we might end up with someone new entirely.

Ok - well wait until you "receiver" further information. ;)
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 00:49:01
I would be absolutely thrilled at the news of John Williams coming back to score Deathly Hallows (preferably both parts). What John Williams did with the first three films was superb, and he himself is legendary.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 00:54:07
I would be ecstatic if John Williams finished the series... it would actually make me so happy I would squeal. I havent really liked the music since Williams left. Well I did like "Fireworks" and was happy they had it back for Half Blood Prince, but Williams is the god of underscore :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 00:56:17
YES!
lol, Id soo hope this to be true. Ive been waiting for years for John Williams to come back to Harry Potter! Hoopers scores are good and I understand its hard work, but I just dont connect with them or enjoy them as much. Tbh, I even disliked a few scenes of HBP partly because of the music.
Im hoping John Williams can come back. :cross fingers: Its like reviving my childhood memories.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 01:10:37
Um, HBPs score WAS amazing, particulary in scenes with Draco in the Room of Requirement. I adore this current score because it doesnt rely heavily on the Hedwig theme song. It was mysterious, creepy in parts, sweet and spot-on. I love that Williams created the original theme music (and he is brilliant with music, OBVIOUSLY, particulary with movies like JAWS and JURASSIC PARK), but I have to say that I adored this movies score. It was really the best one Ive heard yet.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 01:18:16
I think John Williams will be better for the "epic" part two of Deathly Hallows. Hooper would be best for ther "emotional" part one.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 01:33:48
I think Hooper deserves it!! HBP is the best score to date! ! cant stop listening to it! He has developed themes for Dumbledore, Harry, Malfoy, etc. I think he needs to see these themes through!! John Williams is too magical and childish! We are in Darker films now!! We need to Hooper!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 01:38:05
hooper is gay john Williams is cool
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 01:42:31
HBP didnt suffer from its score because there were no action sequences. Hooper isnt very good with giving action sequences their build. Also, I couldnt even hear any music most of the time! Its like they know his score isnt very good so they turn it down.
But Please let this be true! Williams needs to come back.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 02:41:13
@magicalwands: You couldnt hear it because it meshes so well with the story. It fits so well that its apart of the scene, but its definitely there. If you listen for it then you hear it. But while watching the movie you get so lost in it that the music is just second nature to whats going on. If that makes ANY sense at all. lol. its 3am...i dont know what im talking about.

I hope John Williams comes back. Hes a fantastic composer.

The Half blood prince was awful. I really hate David Yatesa as a director. He

If John Williams will come back for the finale, Then it will really give justice and honor to the Harry Potter movie series.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 04:12:32
NOOOOO!!
i Love Hooper!!! His Score almost rivals that of Prisoner of Azkaban!!
John Williams - will simply turn it into a Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman Clone!!!
I am not saying Williams is not great, but he likes what he does,, and doesnt seem to want to change!!
I love how Hooper gives characters their own themes!
Dolores was one of the best page to screen transfers, and i would have to say it was largely helped by Hoopers Score!!!
HOOPER FOR HARRY!!!!!

Sorry!!!
Should have Double checked my facts! hahah
Williams did Azkaban!!
OK hes no alll bad

Oh. My. God. I am so happy right now, this better not jsut be a rumour. I would love to personally go and give Nicholas Hooper a massive hug for doing this (if its true).
Though I think he MUST learn one thing if he is going to be a Hollywood composer. And that one thing is to make sure he learns to deal with the strain on family life. John Williams has even said before that the life of a composer can be very lonely indeed, second to that of a monk. But I am pleased with his score for the film, though rough in places, Hooper did well!
ROLL ON JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!

Oh please let this happen! John Williams was the best composer they had for these movies.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 07:55:32
I was JUST thinking that Id like someone other thank Nicholas to do the final films, and then I got on MuggleNet and saw this!
I mean, he did a great job on OOTP, but the score for HBP wasnt as good.
It would be brilliant if John Williams finished what he started! And, if not him, maybe Patrick Doyle should give it another go. I really like what he did with GOF!

John Williams will be conducting with the Boston Pops this weekend in Tanglewood for Movie night with a focus on Harry Potter so hopefully hell surprise everyone with the announcement he is returning.

And by "composed Half-Blood Prince" you mean "recycled themes from the previous film adding only simple lack-luster themes to accentuate the fact that filmmakers were trying to shove teenage hormones in the audiences faces".
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 09:13:40
I love Hedwigs Theme, but I also like the OotP soundtrack. I would be VERY happy is John Williams composed this final soundtrack. I havent seen HBP yet (Sunday hurry up!), so I cant comment on that...

This post is by a staff member of Film Score Monthy, who interviewed Hooper.
Sorry, but this is about as much of a rumor as it is that David Yates is returning for Deathly Hallows.
Granted, all that this confirms is that Hooper is NOT coming back. It doesnt mean that Williams is sure to return.

No John Williams!!! I REALLY liked the newer scores!

I hope this is a true rumor! Im a huge fan of John Williams, ever since I saw Return of the Jedi for the 1st time in 1983. The Star Wars was his best and a great example of his talent. He did an excellent job with the 1st three HP films and I was greatly disappointed when they used others for the past three. Williams should be back for Deathly Hallows, it is only fitting for him to finish what should have been his all along.

Oh god, I really hope not. Ive got all the soundtracks except the first one (due to it sounding SO much like the second one) but the fifth and the sixth -- which I bought yesterday! -- have got to be my favorites, particularly tracks like "Flight of the Order of the Phoenix" and "Of Love and War." I was SO MAD when watching the movie at midnight after I noticed theyd used some of the previous score in the new film -- I knew he was going to do something like this; I bet hes just angry because they didnt use his brilliance properly. PLEASE DONT STOP, NICHOLAS HOOPER!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:40:57
thepensieve .. Have you learned Anything?! Saying someone is Gay is OFFENSIVE! I dont care how much you dislike Hoopers music (Im glad Williams is returning too) BUT that doesnt mean you say offensive homophobic words about him
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:45:25
Well, Williams was only half there for COS for being so busy and someone else came in...and you can blame Chris Columbus for being very, very enclosed on him. even with restrictions, SS just SHINES with beauty. Then you have POA were Cuaron let him just take the reigns and boy is his music wonderful!
The new HBP just reeks with terrible sounds. Once again, there was no action in HBP and Hooper is good at SOUNDS FOR QUIET music. But even then, its no match Williams. OOTP was so bad when they were in the prophecy scene. It was being ruined because the music was so bad.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 21:45:57
I very much love each of the composers and would be satisfied if either ended up composing DH.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 01:16:51
Both are amazing composers and have contributed wonderful music to the series.
When I think of Harry Potter all of John Williams themes go through my head.
I love the first 3 movies so much because I love the music-it is simply the best.
I do love Hoopers fireworks-what a great piece! Fits Fred and George to a t.
John Williams and the BATTLE OF HOGWARTS Wow!
The potter series is lucky to have 2 such talented composers.
But I would like to see John Williams finish the series!!!!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 11:32:32
Oh god i hope this is true. John Williams is the greatest composer around. Ive been wanting him to return since he left. Hooper was ok but I dont know if he can handle music for something as intense as Deathly Hallows. His music never really impressed me aside from a few in Half-Blood Prince. I would love for John Williams to return and finish what he started.

Too bad! I know Im in the minority here, but I found Williamss scores to be too invasive for the films. When I saw OOTP I immediately commented that I loved the new music b/c it didnt get in the way like the other scores. JWs music is unforgettable, but his HP scores were too commercial and heavy-handed for my taste. Hooper is more subtle, and, dare I say, magical?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 14:16:18
i love john williams soundtracks for this series. i really only like the hbp soundtrack of hoopers two films for the series. i personally wouldnt mind either though. i wish i could compose music for these movies...lol
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-19 17:04:27
Good, Nicholas Hooper does not compose good music. He must have spent a lot of time with his family, because the music for the 5th and 6th were almost exactly the same the whole time. Williams will do a much better job.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-19 22:48:10
Looking forward to Williams return, but I must say that I replay parts of OOTP just to hear the beautiful music. I simply love it when Harry et al go to London on broomsticks (barring the oddity that Muggles could see them) but the music is just gorgeous. The fireworks scene music is great and the thestral scene. I really like the uplifting stuff that makes you want to soar with it. So, though I may be in the minority, I really enjoyed Hoopers work. Hans Zimmer would be pretty cool to add to DH part I, but I think Williams would be a better HP fit for obvious reasons. Still, I wonder what Zimmer could do with the franchise?

John Williams is the greatest and legendary as others have said. The theme to HP is really his work and everything else has worked around his foundation. This is wonderful news if it comes to fruition.

I wish. John Williams has been the best composer in my opinion. I mean come on, Hedwig's theme is the best!
