While in a London court today, Jamie Waylett pleaded guilty to growing 10 cannabis plants. The actor, who plays Vincent Crabbe in the Potter films, was arrested last month along with friend John Innis, after police found eight bags of cannabis and a knife in Innis' car. Waylett could face up to 14 years in prison.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 15:26:40

yeah right. theres no way crabbe goes to jail for 14 years. hes still got to film harry potter for one. im pretty sure between his own money and the money from wb hell have the best lawyers in the world trying to make this thing disappear as fast as possible.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 15:47:27

hopefully ^^^ Or they can just kill off Goyle and bring that skinny guy from the 3rd.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 15:57:13

No! Dont send him to jail! He has to get killed!... In Deathly Hallows, I mean. (Worst joke ever). But seriously--how could he have messed up so badly?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 16:14:31

The big question is how can they justify putting someone in prison for 14 years for growing a plant? If he is otherwise a productive citizen, then it is counterintuitive to have the government pay for him to be unproductive over this for any number of years. They were stupid to have it in the car, but I think a plea deal would be best in this situation -- community service and a treatment program or something.

This has been going on for awhile so I dont think it will just go away...o.o I thought Goyle shouldve died too, in DH. xD Theres no way Harry couldve carried both Goyle and Malfoy onto his broom. They wouldve all been too heavy. Especially with Goyle on it passed out so he was pretty much dead weight. Theyre probably going to have it filmed differently anyway. Crabbe and Goyle werent as famous in the movies as they were in the books. I think they may have gotten a two minute appearance in Half-Blood Prince?

14 years for 10 plants seems extremely excessive. What is going on in the world, I ask you?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 17:13:46

14 years does seem a bit excessive and you know the producers of the Potter series are going, oh crap, oh crap, quick get all his scenes in the can before he goes to prison. For the record I believe Madoff got 150 years for stealing millions of dollars. The one strange question here is what was he doing with 10 plants in the first place? My guess it wasnt for personal use so there could be an intent to distribute charge that we dont know about.

A very foolish young boy. From his personal perspective, certainly a tragedy. From the perspective of the movie series, rather unimportant. As a minor character, he can easily be recast, or even have a separate character introduced (Nigel, anyone?). But even so, I think it more likely that his one important scene, in the Room of Requirement, would be changed to be done by Malfoy (minus the death part), even apart from the young boys legal troubles. The producers have shown a propensity to take a few scenes from the books with minor characters and have the actions performed by more significant characters. Its just one of the aspects of the difference between printed page and cinema. For that matter, theres a certain appropriateness to having Malfoy be the one to destroy one of the last horcruxes.

maybe theyre going so hard on him because hes a celebrity and hoping to set an example ur right though- its quite excessive

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 19:17:44

what a idiot

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 19:21:02

Clearly hes not going to get 14 years. Thats the maxmium sentence and would only be enforced if he had previous convictions and was dealing etc. He may get made an example of - for carrying the knife more than the drugs. Knife crime amongst young people is big issue in the UK at the moment. If he gets a custodial sentence itll be months probably (of which hed typically serve half based on good behaviour.) More likely he gets a suspended sentence/community service or something.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 19:53:04

They write "could". That doesnt mean he will get 14 years. Like what superdarian said.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:09:09

well that was poor decision on his part but i really doubt its gonna help if everyone just calls him an idiot!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:35:56

Dumb ass. If he was in America he would get a slap on the wrist, a little community service and probation for a couple of years. But Im not sure what its like in Britain. I do know theyve been trying to change the drug classifications and with that, the punishments.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:38:13

Hm... can you say effing idiot? jkwellum, I guess youre right in saying what youve said but its just the first thing that comes to mind and honestly I dont know what else to say.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 20:41:42

Like someone else mentioned above, the knife may be his downfall. Knives are a real problem in GB. Once again, if he were American the knife would be no big deal, seeing as many people carry them, me included. Jeez, with all the concealed guns in this country a knife is nothing.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 21:36:42

talk about life imitating art :P "how thick could you get?"

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-16 21:49:31

14 years is harsh. Kids get busted at my school for pot everyday. They get suspended for a couple days, then theyre back in school and nobody cares. I dont understand the knife thing either. Whats he gonna do with it besides cut up his steak. Who stabs people these days, seriously? Id better understand if he was in posession of a gun, but even T.I. only got a year for his gun charges. Maybe things are different in the US, i dont know...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 00:49:06

He will never get 14, mabye a short custodial sentence no because of knife. Knifes are a real problem in the uk, teenagers feel alienated from society and dont trust the police with their safety to the point where alot carry knifes for protection, 60 teenagers dead from knife crime since 1/1/08. Why waste money on a gun when you can easily walk into any supermarket and get a knife just as lethal.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 05:53:39

hahahahahhaa sucker!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 07:29:21

This is so stupid. Pot shouldnt be illegal, let alone criminalized. 14 years for growing a harmless plant? Gods. This is the stupidest law ever. I think it was Sweden that decided, "War on drugs? This is dumb." and de-criminalized drugs, and guess what? Drug and crime rates have gone down, a lot. Other countries should look at this and put two and two together. Waylett is getting massively screwed over because the government is retarded.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 07:32:59

OMG! Will they let him back for the movie? I mean, all he has to do is die.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 07:43:17

Why do you all think hes getting sent down for 14 years? He COULD go down for 14 years for possession and intent to supply, but chances are it wont be anything like that long.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 08:19:50

I think that that punishment would be warranted. Drug users should be punished for their actions. Its too bad for the Deathly Hallows story, but the law comes first before movies. Theres a chance that hell film it anyway. In all likelihood, a sentence wont be announced for a few months, and that part of the movie could be filmed before that happens.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 08:25:56

saralovesneville. lol yeah i know it was really dumb of him i just dont see the point of commenting if all were gonna say is what an idiot lol

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 08:28:06

kenzie520- in the UK, knife crime is getting worse and worse. over 40 people got killed because of gun and knife crime last year (including my sisters close friend) and I think half of that was in London alone. Its getting ridiculous. Also, I doubt he will get 14 years as thats the maximum. On another note, why is the sentence for cannabis so high I ask you? A guy was on his laptop on the MOTORWAY and killed a FAMILY OF FIVE including a baby that was only a few weeks old and he only got four years. They seriously need to change the sentences in this country, cause if Jamie gets more than four years Im writing to Gordon Brown *fume*

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 08:38:40

14 years is definitely ALOT for someone who was growing a plant. Im so surprised at the people who seem to be scorning him...he didnt do that much wrong in my opinion. Lots of people in this day and age are growing cannabis plants and smoking pot. Not that it justifies going against the law, but its not like he is harming anyone. Its just unfortunate that he is a member of the Harry Potter cast; he is now being judged by both members of society AND major fans of the HP franchise.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 08:55:57

Commit the crime you got to do the time.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 09:34:20

Its bizarre though... John Innis is, or at least was, his agent, not his friend. Hes a middle aged man, certainly not the kind of person youd expect to be helping a teenager grow cannabis! But I guess you never can tell.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 09:36:22

I dont think that he should be cut some slack just because hes a celebrity, and I honestly dont know British laws enough to state wether 14 years are justified or harsh. To quote Mrs. Granger in the first movie... "What an idiot!" *in dramatic/snobbish tone*>>> "Pshah! Sullying the name of Harry Potter... Off with his head!"

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 10:32:24

I think he is a very silly boy for even thinking about even attempting to grow these plants especially being in the media spotlight. But I do think the possible sentence is waaaay too harsh- look at some of the thugs who have commited far far worse and have a much lighter sentence!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 10:39:20

he wanted a real life azkaban, eh? then give it to him.. his cell mates would be his dementors.. wonder how thisll affect DH. hmm..

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 10:53:00

Things like this really increase my faith in the human race. NOT.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 10:57:32

If it was only the plants, and it was only a couple of plants, he MIGHT have gotten a slap on the wrist. But with EIGHT bags of it, that could be considered intent to sell, which carries a much heavier penalty. I hope it doesnt come to 14 years, but like they say, dont do the crime if you cant do the time. He and his friend or whomever were stupid to have so much with them at once.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 11:14:38

I think hes an idiot for having that stuff so I dont feel bad saying this: I hope they film his death scene before he goes to court.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 11:45:02

The "14 years" thing seems to be causing some confusion. 14 years is there as the maximum sentence to provide a deterent and a "sliding scale" of punishment depending on the seriousness of the crime. This might range someone caught puffing on a joint outside a nightclub, to a repeat offending, large scale dealer/producer with links to organised or violent crime. The first offender would get a slap on the wrists, the latter might get something approaching the maximum sentence. What has been admitted to in this case is at the bottom end of the scale, but not the very bottom, and the punishment should reflect this.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 12:17:17

will they still have crabbe? i mean it could be a different guy?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 13:17:41

This sucks bigtime. If he does get big time, I hope they can find a decent replacement. Maybe they can let him film the part them toss him in the jail for a bit. Or maybe like some said he could get community service. And believe it or not, if your a celebrity, in any country, you will more than likely get a smaller sentence for a heftier fine.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 14:45:15

They better do his scenes soon in case he goes to jail.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 14:45:22

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 18:01:23

I tried to post this comment yesterday and it never appeared. Im not sure if it was censored for content and deemed inappropriate but I will try again. 42 years to the day the Hyde Park Be-In and First Legalize Pot Rally took place. It was in response to the British governments heavy handed marijuana laws and punishments. In a full page editorial in The Times, William Rees-Mogg quoted Blake by asking "Who breaks a butterfly on the wheel?" While I am not suggesting that Jamie Waylett is a butterfly nor was Mr. Rees-Mogg saying the accused members of The Rolling Stones were angels. The point is: let the punishment fit the crime.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 19:54:32

Cant make enough doing Potter films and had to become an entrepreneur? Idiot.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-17 19:59:29

I hope he was not trying to to copy his character, because that will be really bad. I think all lthe HP fans now will be counting the days for the others movies and also for the trial. Im with Miss Granger in the TSS, "what an idiot!!!"

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 01:57:52

How sad. What a travesty that we still live in a world where these absurd victimless crimes can ruin someones life. So what if he smokes pot. Its ridiculous to punish someone because they want to smoke pot. It should be legalized already!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 02:07:43

why would mugglenet write about crabbes pot growing and not emma watsons underage drinking? their excuse for not showing emmas drinking was because it wouldnt set a good example for young girls and boys. why would they write about pot possession and growth then?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 03:44:51

I dont really think Emma Watsons underage drinking was such a big deal; thats something most teenagers experiment with, and its not like she was getting disorderly and causing trouble, was it? Just having fun with her friends. Similarly, I dont see a big problem with cannabis and like most people seem to think on here, it should be legalised anyway. However, one thing I cant stand about this case is the possession of a knife, especially in light of Robert Knox being stabbed to death. Knife crime is a massive problem in this country, and teenagers should get it into their heads that knives=death.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 07:13:07

Ahh, stupid boy :/

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 11:35:42

14 years seems a bit much for growing pot, but I dont think he should get special treatment just because hes an actor. People here just get, like, probation or community service or something, especially for the first offense. And is it illegal to have a knife in Britain?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 13:21:18

I suppose theyre either going to film the RoR scene really quickly, have Draco or Goyle cast the Fiendfyre, use that skinny guy from PoA, or invent a new character. Hmm ... someones been a bad boy. At least its a minor character and not, say, Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-18 16:19:00

I know this isnt a very funny situation, but has anybody thought of investigating Prfoessor Sprout for these claims? LOL... took me a week to think of that! :P

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-19 11:08:36

Its. Just. Weed.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-19 11:16:44

No doubt theyre using him as an example. They cant let him off any lighter than they would anyone else. They need to show people that breaking the law, because that is what he was doing, will land you with certain consequences regardless of who you are. He should have been more careful, in my opinion.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-19 16:55:18

apparently he took portaying his character seriously. Just as stupid as the "real" Crabbe. Or as Ron correctly put it in CoS: How thick can you get?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-20 06:16:53

I never thought I would say this, but it looks like Jamie is as much of an idiot as his character (Vincent Crabbe)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-20 12:34:05

50 points from Slytherin! (Sorry Prof. Snape) How dumb can you get?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-20 17:16:38

wow, a little extreme punishment just for pot. but still, stupid kid. shouldnt do stupid stuff that could ruin harry potter. itd be weird seeing a different Crabbe for the final film, especially when he actually has a bigger part finally. hmm

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-07-21 08:48:48

so...is he still gunna be in movie 7?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2010-08-10 19:49:01

He's an idiot and he deserves it.
