Mhh interesting change of role, a HUGE leap from HP. I hope for him that those who'll go to the play won't be overexcited teen-fangirls, but rather people wanting to enjoy the play itself and not just Dan's nudity, giggling all through the show...That would be tremendously embarrassing and unrespectful towards Dan...I expect any kind of filming and recording will be severely forbidden too...

PotterChickFoSho, this is a play NOT a movie, he would do the PLAY not a movie, theater is only for people who really loves art and having someone naked on stage should not cause any stir, now I believe there is going to be a limit of age for this play so not every teenager fan will see it (thank god)so I am hoping for the more mature loving theater people, plus in this kind of plays cameras are not allow inside the theater. And why some of you think Dan is like Harry, Dan is Dan and people who think he is like Harry innocent and all should face reality and not live in a fantacy world, Harry is a fictional character nothing more, plus if I am not mistaken Harry had dirty thoughts about Ginny in HBP so what innocens some of you are talking about.

Oddly enough, I think my school is doing the play Equus... which is pointless, because the nudity in it means they cant charge any money for it, so they're only losing the school Theatre Company money...

I think it's a great idea for him to experiment with other types of acting. He's doesn't want to be known as harry potter for the rest of his life. TinaL, I agree with you Dan isn't Harry. I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about regarding the aging of the actors. Typically teenagers are portrayed by older (often 20ish) actors in films. I'm guessing their agents keep telling them to say that they're not sure if they'll accept the parts so they can bargain for a competitive salary. Not that that's a bad thing, its just part of the game.

It would be cool if some maturity would touch HP fandom... anyway I don't understand how some people don't want an actor to play nude, but they don't complain when many actors and actresses play killers in the movies, using guns, throwing bombs... wow now those are bad role models. This is good, it will be good for the theatre, a lot of people who had not interest in theatre will go to see this play (and no, no because the nudity, the play is brilliant with or without that, they will go because of Dan), so in my opinion Dan is being a very good role model, promoting theatre. And if they had chosen him is because he plays this character very well.

@TinaL : You're thoroughly right. Except maybe on the "dirty thoughts-thing". He's a 16 years old teen, pretty normal he wishes to..uhm...explore that side of human relationships...and when he thinks of things which Ron would have never wanted to see his sister involved in, I don't think it's anything "dirty".

I agree with him about both things. How sad (but cool) would it be if Harry had to die too, and it wouldn't be as authentic if he didn't do the part nude. Just because a lot of people know about him, doesn't mean he should have to dull parts down.

Hey people, he is not saying that he would like Harry to die, he is explaining a theory (that many fans share) that maybe Harry will have to do a sacrifice if he wants to vanquish Voldemort. -----I'm very happy because it's obvious Dan is a HP fan like us, and he has his theories too, like us. I would just like to iform those of you who think Dan will be doing the entire play nude that he won't be. Only a few scenes involve any kind of nudity. Most of the action is done with clothes on. Just thought I'd clear that up, as I read the play recently.

However, my theory on why JKR would put the youngest readers through this is quite different from the need for both Voldemort and Harry to die for Voldemort to be defeated. I think it's because JKR would be trying to pull a Christopher Tolkien and make sure all the fanfics that people have spent painstaking hours writing and editing don't get published. Bad JKR, bad!

The play Equus is done with their clothes on, the only time he will be nude is when he rides a horse. I bet you won't be able to see anything but some leg. Their saying all this to sell tickets. Dan is doing it so he will be considered for more grownup roles. I bet a lot of girles will go just to see Dan.

There's a lot of whooping about Dan doing Equus nude. But, if you've actually read the play, two things are apparent. One, the playwright, Peter Schaffer, is extremely clear about lighting for each scene and two, there are only two scenes out of the entire play that are acted nude. My guess is the lighting will dispel any voyeurism on the part of the audience. More to the point is, this part isn't Harry Potter or even David Copperfield. Will Dan be able to find the psychoses and bring forth the emotional pain needed to portray Alan Strang? I think he can do it but it will truly be a challenge as it would be for any seventeen year old. Dan is talented and pushes himself beyond his comfort zone according to those who have worked with him. I wish him well. Success as Alan Strang will truly mark him as one of his generation's greatest talents.

Yeah, I dont really want to see the play. I dont think i would ever be able to look at Harry Potter the some way if i did. Im more of a musical person. And i live in the u.s. so i wouldnt be able to see it anyway. But i think that it will be a good expericence for dan to do an on stage play

Wow... i do have to agree with many people, I do think dan is trying to show how he is mature. He takes acting seriously and he is doing what he thinks is best. Sorry to burst some peoples bubble, but some are really immature on the whole nude business. There are so many actors and actress that do have to be naked form time to time, so whats the big deal, he'll be naked for a sec. It's not that bad, he is being faithful to the script. He is being the charaecter, and if he has to be naked to be the charaecter, fine. You'd be mad if he wasn't faithful to the Harry Potter script. Which you might be mad anyways if he doesn't star in the 7th and 6th movies like i would be because he made the charaecter that we all fell in love with. I at least fell in love with his acting... and him... anywho, I hope he will sign. in an interview i read, he did say that he would keep doing the Harry Potter movies as long as he thinks there challanging him as an actor.
