GrownUpChick makes an excellent point about critics and Dan's vulnerability both at this stage in his career and in his participation in Equus. However, it seems I read somewhere that Peter Shaffer himself was impressed with Dan's participation in a workshop last summer and wanted him to play Alan Strang. No one, including Dan, is going to please everyone, critic or fan. In my opinion, fans of Dan's or those who just wish him well, should focus on the real importance of the play, the relationship between Strang and Dysart and how curing one compromises the other. Granted Dan doesn't read these comments on the internet but still, all the focus on nudity in the play is really beside the point of the play.

What if the interview is a fake? That play, while strange, is very good. The theatre group at my college put it on, but the guy that played Alan was dressed partially during that scene. I mean, Dan can really do what he wants. His parents are okay with it, otherwise it wouldn't have even been an issue. The part iirc is written to be played nude at that particular moment in the play. I think he will be brilliant in that role. If I had the money to travel to see it, I would do just that.

Oh my God people. NOT ALL AMERICANS ARE NOT OBSESSED WITH NAKED PEOPLE!!!!!!! Dan should be taken seriously as an actor. I really don't think he's doing this play for all his teenage girl fans who are obsessed with him. Seriously, get a grip. How would you feel about doing that kind of play in front of millions of giddy teenage girls while trying to be serious?! So geez give the guy a break. It's not like you're all going to buy plane tickets and fly to England just to see Dan Radcliffe naked. Pssh. Face the facts. Your most likely not going to see it anyways.

I don't think he should do the role. As much as I love him, he's not that great of an actor. HEY! I'm an American, but I don't want to see him naked! Shirtless, maybe... ;-)

If he does happen to undress, I hope the females in the crowd would have the decency to not squeal in excitement when it does happen. I mean....it's a serious play....

harry1991: If it is your second language than thats great. I mean no offense if it is. Its not that he couldn't get another role at all. This play is a respected peice being done in the West End that has a seventeen year old male lead character, and its not being done during filming. If he wants to do West End theatre there are not unlimited options, especially for someone of his age. Grownupshick makes a good point. There is the possibility he could bomb, which would suck for him. This could make or break him in the eyes of serious theatre and movie critics, as well as other producers.

is it just me, or does anyone else think that this might make him go nudite in the next harry potter? with the fan girls calling, and the challenge that hes never turned down before, i think he would feel encouraged... i dont think he would have attempted if not for the partial nudity in goblet of fire... its worse, because this is a play... live, in front of several hundred shrieking spectators... of course the psychological emotions he has to perform should be for a good developement in character... i think the nudity cheapens the acting... the audience will be so immersed in his body, the complex and intricate emotions will go unoticed... on a lighter note, i am sure the fan girls will line up in rows and model like a beauty pageant! i wonder what jo thinks...

im even more concerned with this: DAN IS A ROLE MODEL. i wouldnt be suprised if, in the weeks following, kids will be promoting "nude" to the cool zone.... this might become a more dangerous fad than "spin the bottle" once was...

brainhacker: theres no way he'll be nude in the Harry Potter films. Its not up to him anyway. Even if he wanted to, no one would let him. Plus theres no canon for it. Also, only people who go see this play will see him. It wont be on tv or the internet so even if people hear about it, most wont actually see it. Also the role model thing is kind of restrictive. He should do what he wants.

Thank you to those who have said I made a valid point in my last post. I believe I can be a fan of Dan's with his best interests at heart and still be bothered by the fact that he took this role. I was on a Dan Radcliffe website(I forget which one) the other day and most of the comments related to "Equus" must have been posted by adults because they were calmer and less apt to criticize those who disagreed with them. In fact, more than one person commented that posters on "some other sites"(they didn't name names) make what they consider to be very immature and silly comments. Perhaps this is just a case of people thinking they're superior to others because they prefer a different website; I don't know. Perhaps those of us who are no longer teenagers should remember what it was like to be one. I certainly do. I can fully understand being a fan of a celebrity that you think is cute. I've been there, done that. However, I never would have done to someone what some Dan fans did to the young lady who co-starred with him in "December Boys". Those girls who sent her hate mail don't realize how immature and self-destructive this kind of behavior really is. Be a guy's fan, yes; but don't be idiotic about it.

Also: What's with all these people talking about Dan being nude in the next Harry Potter film?? Where do you people get these crazy ideas? Jo hasn't written any nudity into the books, so there shouldn't be any in the movies. Of course, that doesn't mean that there won't be in the last book. I doubt it. I don't think Jo would do that.

Harrison did it with some clothes on, despite being used to being nude onscreen when he was in Queer as Folk. I think that might have been because it was a community theatre thing though.

Dan's parents strike me as wise beyond their years. Imagine having a seventeen year old son who follows their wishes and does not read posts on the Internet. If he read any of the posts regarding his upcoming role in Equus, I fear Dan himself would become neurotic. Does anyone who has posted to date really believe that teen fan girls who squeal and go nuts over the word "nudity" would even be permitted to enter the theater? Or stand and scream anywhere near the place? Or bring in a camera phone? Or that there might not be an age limit? A play is not a rock concert. And this particular play is not for the uninformed. Literally, Equus is not a play that will be enjoyed by the average Harry Potter fan and vice versa. Stage vs film; metacognition vs fantasy. Two different worlds. Two different fan bases. Perhaps, that is what his parents considered when the offer was made to Dan. Very wise.

Le-professeur: I do hope there really will be some sort of age restriction so that young fans cannot attend the play. I also hope you're right about no camera phones being allowed inside but everyone knows that "where there's a will, there's a way". Mark my words: someone will get into that play with a camera phone or some other device and the next day, those two scenes that feature the nudity will be all over the internet. This is another reason why something(a body stocking, perhaps) should be done so that Dan doesn't appear fully naked. I wonder if Dan's parents have given this possibility any thought. While it is true that the average Harry Potter fan won't even be interested in seeing this play I am not talking about average fans here. I'm talking about people who don't care a wit about H. P.; they just want to exploit any of these young film stars in any way they can. I won't be surprised if someone makes a DVD and sells it via the internet. Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid but I doubt it.

what's the diffrence if the photos were published on the internet or not ? the point is that over hundreds will see it . i don't think they'll search everybody just to make sure that nobody will take photos.

Why is everyone wanting to see that movie. It's just wrong and gross. But a mature roll for our little Danny. I remember what he was like at the age 11. He grows so fast. =( But still I have to say lol. It's kina funny. I wonder what it's rated. I saw a movie rated R when there was only nudity. Oohh, fangirls you might get disapointed. ha

I wonder how much a fan girl will pay for it on eBay. I think it's not right for Dan to do this roll. Why would he be in a play anyway? He's more of a movie kinda guy. I wonder if they'll blur those naked parts like in the computer game Sims?
