If you're like me (a nerd), you probably love catching movie mistakes in films. MovieMistakes.com is a great site to see a list of all known mistakes, and their Half-Blood Prince page now holds 66 of 'em! Like this one:
When Hagrid and Slughorn are drinking after Aragog's funeral, Slughorn's cup is considerably larger than Hagrid's cup. After Hagrid passes out, Slughorn's cup has shrunk to the same size as Hagrid's.
I was surprised to see that they didn't have one I caught: after Draco is escorted out of Slughorn's party by Snape and Harry begins to spy on them, you can clearly see crew rugs used to quiet Draco and Snape's footsteps. The same rugs are visible earlier in the film when Harry and Ron walk down a corridor after Slughorn's class.
(I just sent that to MovieMistakes.com.)

In movie # 4 [GOF] Voldemort says something about Harrys mother and says "..your filthy muggle mother..". When it should have been "mudbloodmother" Harrys mother was not a muggle. [:

Some of the mistakes listed arent mistakes at all, such as:
"When Harry drinks the potion, he has already given some to Ron for quidditch. When he drinks it, he appears to have drunk half, but there was some left after he drank it. There should not be any left because he drank some and he gave some to Ron."
He didnt give Ron any potion! That was the whole point!

Yeah I agree with hinkypink730. That "mistake" isnt a mistake at all. Harry didnt give Ron the potion, he only made Ron think he did. That was the whole point, so show Ron he was a great quidditch player all along, all he needed was confidence!
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 15:56:21
I agree with hinkypink730 and jadedruid87. the whole point of the felix was to give ron confidence without breaking any rules. And I also dont understand this one: "At the end of Order of the Phoenix, Harry is going home with all his friends. However, at the start of Half-Blood Prince, they show the Daily Prophet at the Ministry taking pictures of Harry and Dumbledore." How is that a plot hole? I thought that the director was trying to show you what happened after the Ministry scene and establish the Harry and Dumbledore relationship for the rest of the movie, not begin where Order of the Phoenix left off.

I agree also with the Ron/potion thing, though I wonder if the "glugging" sounds lasted to long to have potion left, but to me thats minor. And if he uses it in the next movie, they showed us there was some in the bottle, so fine.
The thing I wonder about, is when (and this is more of the writers fault) when Draco calls Filch a "Squib" is the audience members who have never read the book suppose to know what that is? They never mention his magical status in the movies, I mean I guess its no big deal cuz most people Ive told that too, who havent read the books, were just like "oh i didnt hear" or "I thought it was just some magical insult"... Anyway maybe wrong topic to bring this up in but I just remembered and wanted to say it to some all around Harry fans.

I am a nerd as well, but I read them @ IMDb.

Well, Andrew, you call yourself a "nerd". I have to agree with you. When you stated that "you can clearly see crew rugs used to quiet Draco and Snapes footsteps", all I could think was that you must have been watching the movie for the wrong reasons. Many of us watch for the STORY not for the mistakes. Frankly, I did not notice any rugs. I mean its not as though the boom mike dropped into the shot (as it did several times in Robin Williams version of "Bicentennial Man" - now THERE was a movie with loads of mistakes).

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 16:17:23
That site is 100% worthless and always has been. Half of those "mistakes" just made me shake my head and laugh and wonder why people who havent read the books feel entitled to submit them. Like the one about Apparating within Hogwarts. Dumbledore explained why he can two seconds before he did and that still wasnt enough for some whiny viewer who wanted nothing more than to see their name on a website.

I dont like moviemistakes, but I like the IMDb list. It makes you go "Oh.." I dont see how its silly to simply notice movie mistakes while enjoying the film. For example, I noticed how Harrys glasses seem to be missing lenses in one shot. Whats so terrible about that? I still watch the movie for the "STORY".

I HAVE ONE!!!!!!!
After Ron kisses Lavender, when Harry goes to find Hermione, you can see a staff member reflected on one of the pillars.
Shes sitting there smiling, clear as day!

"in movie # 4 [GOF] Voldemort says something about Harrys mother and says "..your filthy muggle mother..". When it should have been "mudbloodmother" Harrys mother was not a muggle. [:"
NO thats completly Wrong Aragog4! Harry`s mother wasnt a muggle, BUT the death eaters..(and you would have known this if you read the books) MEan that Muggleborns and muggles are the same! since they are born OF muggles!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 17:03:15
hinkypink730, I just came to post that. Haha. Somebody missed the whole point of those scenes!
I hate the ones where they say someones arm changed position or something. Like you cant move your arm...? They act like the characters are supposed to remain completely still between shots. I can understand what theyre thinking, but it isnt a mistake. I know I dont stay in the same position for a very long time.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 17:07:17
This one actually isnt a mistake because Harry doesnt actually give any to Ron.
"When Harry drinks the potion, he has already given some to Ron for quidditch. When he drinks it, he appears to have drunk half, but there was some left after he drank it. There should not be any left because he drank some and he gave some to Ron."

Okay, so we get it: Theres a mistaken "mistake". Can we move on?
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 18:41:42
I dont notice mistakes when Im watching movies unless theyre HIGHLY visible, but some of those, like said, are incorrect. Some of them are pretty funny though.

I agree with rebel_hermionex7 about the Ministry bit. I thought that was obvious too, but I guess not. It was showing what happened after they left the Ministry, how Dumbledore led him away from the press, and that whole scene just establishes what the Magical World has been talking about all summer, with a flashback of unseen footage. I liked it, worked nicely.

I love movie mistakes!!! One of my favorites from the Harry Potter movies is from Sorcerers Stone in the scene when the trio ask Hagrid about where he got the dragon egg. Hermione (aka Emma) mouths along with Harry (aka Dan) when he says, "Why didnt I see it before?!"
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-06 21:33:45
Here is a funny thing I saw on the 2nd viewing. In the great hall, behind the trio you can see Dean having a fun conversation with an extra wearing Slytherin green! Now, of course, not all Slyths are evil, but it was funny to see them so friendly.

Not cool.

Voldemort calls Harrys mum a muggle because the Death Eaters (as you would know if you read the books more attentively) accuse Muggle-borns of being muggles who stole magic (hence the blood status trials etc).
Not a mistake. Why do people waste their time picking up on petty slip-ups in the movie? Most of which arent real mistakes at all!
Gah.

Andrew- they posted your mistake.
I corrected a submitted mistake. It said that Harry ought to have had only half a bottle of Felix Felicis because he gave some to Ron. He didnt, which he told Hermione during the party after the Quidditch game; he even showed her the full bottle.
I dont really like movie mistakes. If I see them, I ignore them. I like to enjoy the movie, and not waste my time trying to find things they messed up.

Did they put in this one?: In the scene when the cursed necklace is taken to McGonagall theres a window behind her and snow is falling...guess what? Shes see through! You can see the window pattern and snow through her body. And when Snape comes into the scene hes see through as well! I was cracking up with my friend when we noticed that.

Sad to say the whole Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince movie was a mistake.
In a word disappointing.
"D" for dreadful.
It is NOT like they did NOT have enough time to edit it...........

Two big mistakes they made were replacing the Dursleys with a stupid waitress and blowing up the Burrow! I was pretty disappointed with that!

BEST movie in the series! And only geeks care to notice mistakes at the movies..

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-07 21:27:10
HEY...did they get these 2 mistakes?????? when Harry first gets his book from slughorn, he opens up the COVER and reveals "property of the half blood prince" but later when ginny grabs it from harrys hand, she opens up the book to the BACK page to reveal the above writing. THE OTHER MISTAKE.... in the beginning, when Harry, Ron & Hermione are sitting in a room in Burrow talking, Hermiones legs keep changing position with the different camera angles. I sent these 2 in. not a geek...just happen to notice these two. (oh yeah, there were other numerous times when the lenses in harrys glasses were gone and then reappeared)
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-07 21:38:39
i just went over to the web site...they did get harrys missing lenses and they did get hermiones moving legs. but no one said anything about the book inscription being in the front, (harry discovered) then the back (when ginny read it) and then back to the front (when harry was reading it when katie bell came back to hogwarts).

How can you honestly say HBP is the best film in the series? I hate these people who say every new Potter film is the BEST IN THE SERIES!!!! So if the films have gotten better each time, does that make the PS horrible? I could write an essay on how disappointing HBP was. I dont know which scene was more pointless; Bellatrix and Greybacks attack on the Burrow or Lavenders lame love heart on the train door. Please! This film is too much like High School Musical for me to take it serously. JK Rowling must secretly be horrified with what theyve done with her brilliant work.

Im actually insanely surprised that I didnt find one I found huge on the site. Ive submitted it; hopefully itll get put up soon..
Am I the only one who noticed that they listed on the Vials of Dumbledores collected memories "Thomas Marvolo Riddle" and not "Tomas Marvolo Riddle"? When there is an H, its no longer an anagram for I Am Lord Voldemort. ^_^

Ha I can remember seeing Order of the Phoenix and then going home and writing all the things that were wrong with the story line (aka things that they left out from the books, or messed up) and I ended up with about 150 of them lol.

windofkagura - I noticed the see-through McGonagall and Snape! When I pointed it out to my friends they said I must have funny eyes, but I knew I hadnt imagined it lol! I think it may have something to do with special effects gone wrong or something. Like maybe instead os using a snow machine, they edited it in and forgot to make the people in front of the windows solid!

I dont really think the cups being different sizes is a mistake. I think they were trying to use forced perspective to make Hagrid look large. By giving him a tiny cup, then showing that his cup is actually the same size as Slughorns they were trying to make his hands look bigger. But I dont think the effect came off well. When Slughorn and Hagrid are sitting next to each other, the cups really do look different sizes. They needed to put Slughorn farther away from the camera to make it really work. LOTR did this kind of thing all the time to make the hobbits look small.

loveslupin-haha! its such an obvious mistake too. Seriously people, go see it again. I couldnt stop staring and laughing at the transparent McGonagall and Snape!

I agree about the Burrow, it did not add much to the plot except some spectacular scene and obvieus far less boring as the conversattion Harry had with Scrimgeour at this point.
However the Tube scene was cute and Elarica Gallagher played her tiny little role very good and real. Wishing th same could be said about Bonny Wright, who was soooo wrong in this movie.
bloody hell. She has to give Harry a real birthdaypresent in the next movie, when thats to be as frigid as the kiss in this movie, one may expect that James Jr., Albus Severus and Lily Luna have the same origine as the children of Micheal Jackson.

man i dont even notice these things til i watch the dvd! and i mean i get that the continuity ones are hardy to fix since they shoot so many scenes out of order, but the ones where you can see the crew and equipment ones are just sad.

also IDK if anyone else noticed at the end when harry is kneeling over dumbledore you can see him quickly close his eyes when the camera goes back to him and you can also see his eye sorta twitch lol just saw the movie again 4th time I did notice 5 or 6 mistakes lol
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-10 10:38:15
I didnt notice any mistakes while watching this movie...except maybe Harrys lens were missing from his glasses for half the movie. But other than that, I didnt notice any others. I was too engrossed in watching that BRILLIANT movie to look for mistakes.
|
Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-08-11 22:25:59
I saw two in the whole movie. I noticed the "Thomas Marvolo Riddle" bit that someone mentioned before and also noticed a cameraperson reflected in a mirror on the astronomy tower. Right around the time that Dumbledore tells Harry that he needs to shave Harry walks to Dumbledore with the camera following behind and you can see the cameraperson in a mirror to the right.

Dont worry, Im a nerd who notices these things too. Like in Goblet of Fire after the second task Hermione gives Harry her blanket. But when the camera angle changes she has it again. And it goes back to Harry and he has it again. And it happens again. But I didnt see many in the sixth yet. Probably because Ive only seen it a few times.
