There's a new article online today quoting JK Rowling's lawyer and an insider, who both say Jo's upcoming Encyclopedia still has no release date yet. Neil Blair, a lawyer for Rowling's agents Christopher Little, downplayed expectations of imminent publication. He said: "The encyclopaedia simply remains something Ms Rowling would like to complete sometime in the future." But an insider said: "Everyone hopes it comes to fruition. "Even though the original Harry fans are now adults the obsession remains and this would be a huge seller. "Obviously she is under no pressure and can pick and choose her projects but Harry is more than just another character for her." Thanks to Audrey for the tip!

Wow exciting news :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 09:14:18

Fantastic! I reckon the encyclopedia will truly tie up all the loose ends :) I really hope she finishes it soon. Although, the longer she spends on it will result in the more detailed it is!

Yayyy Im so excited! :) I CANT WAIT.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 09:36:49

Only a couple more years! So excited! It better be thick.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 09:43:27

I would love to have it soon, but I dont think it should be out any time soon. I want this book to have every single detail of the HP world. There is no way for this to happen if it is released in 2012. I am hoping that she will have to book finished (not released) sometime between 2015 and 2017. That would be 8-10 years after DH was released and even longer since she finished writing the DH. I think this would be plenty of time for her to write the book. I hope we get the book in our hands by 2020. If it takes longer than that, I will start getting a little impatient. =)

YAAAAAAY!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 09:55:29

Wouldnt it be nice if Jo decided to publish a book with little independent scenes that shes thought up along the way...She wouldnt have to actually tie it all together either in book format, just a quick intro to each and HP fans would know exactly where they went. Kinda like the scene out of nowhere about James and Serius pranks one night. Ah, just wishing...

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 10:14:02

Well, all I have to say is it better be at least as thick as POA and it better be out soon. I simply cant wait until 2020. I mean, thats such a long time away! Thats eleven years, and thirteen since DH was published. I mean, doesnt she like already have all the info in notes and stuff? How can it take so long??? I really would just like a date, but really, how would "Eleven years, two months, six days, three hours, fifty-eight minutes, and twelve seconds" look on the MN count-down?!? I am hoping for 500 pages and out by July of 2012. Thats five years since DH came out, and if she works on this every day for eight hours, that would be a total of 14,600 hours, which I think should be plenty of time, although I have never written an encyclopedia, so I cant say for sure. (You know, I probably shouldnt have started this with "all I have to say is...")

@fanatic: Im with you. Im in no hurry to get this. I just hope its amazing. Every detail of anything Harry Potter should be in this.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 11:05:58

This makes me really happy. What great news to hear at the start of the day!! Its going to be great and all us loyal potter fans will have things that were not explaned in the books explaned in the enyclopedia!! Sorry if I spelled it wrong LOL. Please finish it soon J.K. Rowling :)

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 11:26:12

I absolutely cant wait for it to come out! Although Id want her to take her time, I kind of believe itll be out wayyyy before 2020. I dont want to wait until Im 28 to get it, hahah. I also hope that its thick and ties up lose ends. The encyclopedia is going to be fantastic, its JK Rowling! She wouldnt do her characters and world wrong :D

omfg amazingly awesome! I dont care how long it takes, it will all be worth it.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 11:33:15

*jumping up and down, hands up the air, being excited* YES! YES! YES!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 12:27:58

Isnt this just a re-hash of the story that was out about a month ago quoting the same Ian Rankin? There is virtually nothing new to this story except the date it was released

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 13:33:21

Ok Jk take all the time you need. I really dont care how long it takes as long as it is published, have every single detail about the Wizarding World, and it at least two times the size DH. SOOOO EXCITED!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 13:36:30

... as good as these news are, I have a hard time believing the source them because of the horrible spelling in article

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 13:48:05

I really, really hope she releases it soon.... Im interested to see the content. However, Im not getting my hopes up until there is something announced from JKR herself. That is really the only reliable source for the thing, anyhow.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 15:14:46

Im just waiting primarily for two things: the dates of the next generations birthdays, and their parents wedding dates. I REALLY hope she doesnt make a double wedding for H and G and R and H. I think Ron and Hermione deserve their own special day, and Harrys fame would take away from that "this is your day" thing. I think Ron deserves not to be overshadowed on his own wedding day. Each couple should have their own day, but I could see her doing the double wedding thing to save the Weasleys some money.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 16:35:55

Sooooooooo excited and happy!!! I wouldnt mind if it took her a long time:) i want it to be absolutely perfect!! With every detail, and new things that have never been mentioned before.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 17:38:17

I acually would like it if it were a few years in the future, because then we will have something to look forward to! This is probably the first time I have been looking forward to an encyclopaedia haha

Im glad to hear that she is working on the "Scottish Book". I would just like to say that there are many fans looking forward to its publication and we understand the unnecessary pressure caused by announcing a deadline (publication date). We are still interested in having the book when it is finished, and any other books involving characters and stories from your wonderful world of magic and wizards. Perhaps an extension of the Harry Potter arc about the roundup of the Death-Eaters or the wizard world at peace. Your marvelous writings are enjoyed by "Children of all Ages".

I know everyone is really eager for this book, but I think you being incredibly unrealistic if you think that the book is going to released in the next 2-3 years. First, you have to remember that DH was released about 2 years ago and The Tales of Beedle the Bard was released just last December. Jo has stated that she wants to take a break from the HP world. After more than 15 years and 10 books, I think she deserves a break from all the work and stress for a while. I dont see her spending the same amount of hours per day writing this book as she did for her other books. I kind of believe that she is doing this for fun and might want to spend some time on herself and her family. I am assuming that there will be an enormous amount of info that must be compiled and then formatted in way that is easy for us to read. This will take quite some time to do. I want to remind you that Jo herself stated this book might take 10 years to finish because she wants it to be amazing and does not want to rush it. We also know that she is working on other non-HP books. Until Jo starts talking about the book, I wont be getting excited about its release.

Is anyone else a little worried about whats going to happen to MuggleNet once the movies and the Encyclopedia are both done? Like, after a point there wont really be any news stories to discuss. Or if they are, theyll be few and far between. It makes me sad to think about. Take your time, Jo!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-13 23:33:51

We all thought that DH would come out in 2008 instead of 2007. Then, surprise! It was finished and came out with OotP movie. I wouldnt be surprised if the encyclopedia came out way before we expect it to come out. It might come out with the release of the first part of DH movie. Anyhow, I cant wait for it to come out.

I think after dedicating more than 17 years of her life to writing the HP books...JKR can take as much time as she wants when it comes to anything she works on in the future. Clearly JK Rowling is not going to release something just for the heck of it. She wont write it unless her heart is in it completely, so I have faith that whenever the encyclopedia or any other future works of hers are released it will be BRILLIANT!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-14 19:14:52

Yes, taking her time will allow Jo the space she needs (and is entitled to) to do what real life dictates. Also, once its out, there wont be anything more to look forward to. Which is a mixed blessing, I suppose. Also, JK rocks!

alright i being an huge Harry Potter fan i can see where people are coming from telling jo to take her time i like having something to look forward to since i thought that after the 7th that it was all over but another more primal part of me is saying me want encyclopedia now!!!!!!!!!!! so im torn between to personalities at the mo i just cant wait so im starting to build a time machine and am going to go to 2020 and work my way back until i find the midnight release because i dont want to miss that if anyone wants they can come with ill repost on this report when its finished so wish me luck
