SS and COS Ultimate Editions arriving December 8th too
SS and COS Ultimate Editions arriving December 8th too A couple months ago, we reported that Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets Ultimate Editions were in the works.

Today, with the news of the Half-Blood Prince DVD arriving December 8th, we've now learned that the Ultimate Editions will hit store shelves on the same day. As Video Business reports:

The new Ultimate Editions of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, priced at $39.92 on DVD and $49.99 on Blu-ray, will each include five hours of special features, theatrical and extended versions of the film, a 48-page photo book and other collectibles.

Among the special features will be screen tests, new featurettes with the cast and filmmakers and the first two one-hour installments of a new comprehensive documentary about the making of the movie franchise. Called Creating the World of Harry Potter, the eight-hour documentary will have one hour on each Ultimate Edition.

Additionally, Video Business reveals that a new iPhone app - allowing users to learn and fire virtual spells at friends - will arrive in November.

This is so EFFIN awesome!!! I didn't know it came with all these special features!! I'm so excited!! I can't wait to buy these! I really hope they do this with ALL the movies!! I wonder if the "In Movie Experience" is a commentary?? I really hope so! And I'm so excited about the screen tests. They need to put bloopers on these too.

I know what I want for Christmas!!!!

Posted by alex_c98 Sep 17th 2009

Oh my gods. This is almost like my dream where they came out with super extended editions for the mega-fans, LotR-style. It's close enough! I just hope they're doing this for Philosopher's Stone, no way I'm buying something with "Sorcerer's Stone" on it. :P

Posted by Greg Sep 17th 2009

Just in time for Christmas, yay!

Posted by waterbug Sep 17th 2009

@ales_c98: what is so bad about "sorcerer's stone"? I think that Philosopher's stone is so much weirder. I am so excited only money wise I don't think I will be able to get it.....

Posted by hermionenessie Sep 17th 2009

this just made my day! now i know what to ask for for christmas this year.

Posted by MrPoe Sep 17th 2009

Cool, but the first two aren't that good to deserve this jinormous box set. I'm stcking with my dvds. But HBP is a deffinately Blu-ray buy for me.

Posted by Harpaleous Sep 17th 2009

You're right alex_c98. I hope they do it with Philosopher's Stone. I didn't like changing it into Sorcerer's Stone!

Posted by magicalwands Sep 18th 2009

This isn't worth it. WB states there will be five discs: theatrical, extended, features, more features, and a digital copy. On this website they list SS and COS to only have seven and thirteen minutes respectively of new footage. They also wrote disc 3 will have deleted scenes...so it's not a fully woven movie like Lord of the Rings got. http://www.hometh eaterforum.com/forum/thre ad/293063/whv-press-relea se-harry-potter-ultimate- editions-dvd

Posted by diher Sep 18th 2009

WTF lol ultimate collectors editions arent supposed to be each individual movie in a huge package with more stuff its supposed to be every movie in the saga in one massive case with mounds of extras on more dvds like they did with the superman ultimate collectors edition which was 14 DVDS so with HP it would be around 25 DVD total but I'm sure WB will release a SUPER MEGA ULTIMATE PLATINUM SET once all the movies are out

Posted by alex_c98 Sep 18th 2009

waterbug - I don't endorse the "Sorcerer's Stone" title because the reasons behind the title change were ridiculous. Also, they changed the name of a historical object (or rather, a legendary one), which bothers me greatly. Plus, I can't stand when things get Americanized.

Posted by _MischiefManaged_ Sep 18th 2009

I have to agree with alex_c98 about the Philosopher's Stone vs. Sorcerer's Stone thingy. When I first learned why the name had been changed, I was seriously laughing my rear end off and couldn't quite believe how they could have done something so stupid. And I'm not even a native English speaker. The Philosopher's Stone is a historical/legendary object, for ef's sake. It's like changing the name of Stonehenge to something different for the American tourists. Even though it would be nice to own different versions of the books, in addition to the Bloomsbury versions and Finnish versions I already own, I don't think I could ever buy the Scholastic versions of the HP books, simply because I can't stand the Americanisation of them.
