The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD will be released on Dec. 8, but the video on demand will not be available until Dec. 15, according to Video Business. Noonan [a WHV spokesman] said the film “will be held back a week [on VOD] in an effort to further enhance the extraordinary sell-through possibility” of the DVD, calling Potter a unique property. Thanks to Leaky for the tip!

Man, people just love delaying things, dont they?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-29 20:41:38

At least its not another 8 month delay...

Well, look at it this way. The last two movies (from the last HP book) are now in production. WBs HP cash cow is coming to the end of its run. These movies have brought in more money per movie than 3 or 4 other hit movies. Not to mention DVD sales and rentals and product tie-ins. It must be a bit scary for them to realize that it is all coming to the end and they are going to have to go back to work for a living. No other movie series has generated the cash income of the Harry Potter series! As to the DVDs, I have quit buying DVDs. I have nearly a thousand which I am going to sell. I have found that rental is a better way to go. With the service center here in town, its a 2 day turn around to get almost anything on DVD. Mail the old movie on Monday and get the next selection on Wednesday. And its a lot less expensive. Directors cut, Special Extended editions, theater edition are all available. Why put out the money to buy?

"...to further enhance the extraordinary sell-through possibility" Haha, in other words, make more fat bank! Money makes it all go round. Cant wait to see what kind of last ditch efforts theyll come up with when DH Pt.2 is released. Eh, not worried about the on demand stuff anyway, DVD is the way to go.

Oh well, I am gonna get the DVD, and most fans are probably going to do the same.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-30 07:40:40

yeah, it doesnt really matter to me, since ill definitely buy the dvd. besides, i dont think its *that* big of a thing. i mean, HP fans have obviously learned patience, so i think we can handle a week, compared to like 35 weeks. i *think* well live through this one.

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-30 09:18:28

yeah..im gonna get it too..

Im just going to get in On Demand - Ill only watch HBP once. I can always buy it off iTunes and watch it a million times cheaper. Plus, Im waiting until the collection comes out anyway.

Im just going to ask for the DVD for Christmas. I never bother with this "on demand" stuff. My parents tell me I demand too much as it is. And yes, i_killed_sirius_black, we have learned patience over the years, havent we?

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-30 14:43:30

Its a "unique property" because it makes them so much freakin MONEY! HBP has made almost a billion dollars worldwide!! But I cant wait to get the dvd and all the ultimate collectors editions too! Im so EXCITED!!!

Posted by: - Posted on: 2009-09-30 16:32:47

I would definitely buy the DVD anyway. VOD is not a big deal to me, I mean dont you want to have the HP films for keeps so you could watch it any time without paying money each time you watched?
