Windows 7 surpasses Deathly Hallows in pre-orders
Windows 7 surpasses Deathly Hallows in pre-orders Amazon.com has announced that Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system is the first product to surpass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in grossing pre-orders. From TG Daily:

"The launch of Windows 7 has superseded everyone's expectations, storming ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the biggest grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong," says Brian McBride, Amazon UK MD.

Over the past three months, only Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol has sold more copies than Windows 7, which is an incredible achievement for a software product.

Unless "windows 7" is some type of codeword for JK Rowling's new book, I'd still go with Harry Potter...

lmao @memixaroses . very well said

Windows 7: The electronic Deathly Hallows.

Posted by kibbi416 Oct 21st 2009

of all things to surpass Potter... windows? i mean really? why do people keep blowing their money on their software. Mac is the way to go. but Potter rules all :p

Posted by kalb Oct 21st 2009

That's because Vista sucks crap and people want to get rid of it.

Posted by evanna11 Oct 21st 2009

It's about Amazon UK, and there's a picture of the American DHs.. (mashable did this too).

Posted by superfish31 Oct 21st 2009

Agreed with Kalb.

Posted by Amy_Lupin Oct 21st 2009

kalb: You are absolutely right. Only through the failure of one thing has the hype for the next been so great. Harry Potter never failed. It was the best from the beginning. So take that Windows...

Posted by tonks654 Oct 21st 2009

hm... this MUST be a new series of jo's in disguise!!!

Posted by camken Oct 21st 2009

how much do you wanna bet that the next post will be Windows 7 passes Twilight in returns

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker_7 Oct 21st 2009

LOL, camken, NOTHING could pass Twilight in returns!

Posted by AndrewW Oct 21st 2009

Thats really not a surprise. Tihkn about companies purchasing a hundred or more copies and homes with multiple computers. Maybe those people will really get JKRs new Harry Potter book that shes been hiding. I can hope.

Posted by mallo7440 Oct 21st 2009

I can see why this is true. Although millions love Harry Potter, I think there are more people who hate vista(me included)

Posted by rogue416 Oct 21st 2009

I didn't know there was such a thing as Windows 7. But I've gone over to Apple now, which I think is much better.

Posted by Luckydoggy Oct 21st 2009

Maybe everyone thought it said Harry Potter 7 instead of Windows 7 :P

Posted by Tarhisie Oct 21st 2009

I have Vista and haven't had any problems with it... Although I just bought this computer a month ago, so maybe it was a newer version of it. Still, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 soon since I get a free upgrade.

Posted by PhoenixFireworks Oct 21st 2009

@Amy_Lupin: Perfectly said!

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 21st 2009

LMAO! I don't know why I find this funny...but I'm shocked it took this long for something to pass Deathly Hallows. That book came out almost 3 years ago! :D

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker_7 Oct 21st 2009

I never thought ANYTHING could pass Deathly Hallows. :(

Posted by camken Oct 21st 2009

Windows passes harry potter................... .people like sparkly vampires................. ......everyday i lose more and more faith in man kind

Posted by phoenix1946 Oct 21st 2009

Andrew, what does windows 7 have to do with the Harry Potter franchise or fandom? Answer: Absolutely Nothing!! A more appropriate place to post this info would be on a microsoft fansite, if there is one!!

Posted by jmnhermione435 Oct 21st 2009

Well DH had a good run!

Posted by MrPoe Oct 21st 2009

NOOOOO!!!!!! WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? I hate Microsoft, I hate Bill Gates, I HATE MICROSOFT!!!! (Apple Rules!)

Posted by DCProductions Oct 21st 2009

DON'T be decieved by the data people!!! This is just Amazon's totals, not all sellers of the product combined! I think that HPDH's preorder totals are safe and still unsurpassed.

Posted by wontongirl Oct 21st 2009

by the way MR POE... ur a retard! and no offense to harry potter but YAY!!!! i have windows 7 on my computer, and its the best thing ever!!!! omg, some of u people are absolutely crazy!!!! I mean, have any of u that SAY windows vista/7 sucks ever actually had it on their computer for more than two weeks and then compared??????????? u guys are just being stupid because of those mac commercials that say windows is nerdy. well windows was here way before apple, and windows kicks butt! AND YEAH, I HAVE ACTUALLY COMPARED. so kiss it, apple luvers >:P

Posted by i_am_hermione Oct 21st 2009

it's only in the UK. and why would you pre-order a computer software system? I mean, it's not gonna matter if you get it three hours after everyone else. Harry Potter, on the other hand...

Posted by wontongirl Oct 21st 2009

BTW: i`m just saying that if it weren`t for bill gates and his crew, we wouldn`t have windows, microsoft word, etc. and probably wouldn`t even have the computers we have now, which means apple wouldn`t even be here right now either. (btw: kiss it!!!)

Posted by LadyEvelyn Oct 21st 2009

Yea, I agree that Vista sucks...Think about it this way though, 10 years from now the name "Windows 7" will be left behind (do you talk about Windows 95 now?) whereas Harry Potter will still be talked about. Anyways, I wouldn't have been able to post this without their contributions to technology. So, let them have their moment in the spotlight.

Posted by jojoinpink54 Oct 21st 2009

Yeah, because the two are obviously comparable. I'm sure a lot of people are sitting there thinking "hmmm... Harry Potter or Windows 7? The later I think..."

Posted by chommy Oct 21st 2009

Ohohoho, just wait until her next series. ;)

Posted by shielded117 Oct 21st 2009

Actually wontongirl, Microsoft in its early stages was originally hired by Apple to programming. Bill Gates stole Apple software, cheapened it and made Windows. That aside, yeah, I can definitely see the number of disgruntled Vista users jumping at the chance to get into another sinking boat. Let's hope Windows 7 sinks slower...

Posted by bhart Oct 21st 2009

aw sad. :(

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 21st 2009

Hey it's not another BOOK so Harry Potter still has that record. :D

Posted by kalb Oct 21st 2009

Camken - "how much do you wanna bet that the next post will be Windows 7 passes Twilight in returns." LOL!!!!! Too funny!

Posted by mandy135 Oct 21st 2009

Obviously the people that are commenting on this have never had to deal with the eternal frustration of windows vista. This is not a reflection on Harry Potter itself, just the crappiness of vista.

Posted by alex_c98 Oct 22nd 2009

I'm so glad I cut and run from Windows last year. Apple may be overpriced but it has yet to fail me and that's pretty much worth the extra money.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 22nd 2009

And here I thought most people were MAC users now...clearly not. But I've never had any problems with Vista...that I know of. I'm kind of dreading all the new info I will have to learn once Windows 7 is released though. It took me forever to learn how to use Vista. :(

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 22nd 2009

GUYS GUYS GUYS! THINK ABOUT IT! As FAMOUS as Harry Potter is, who's more Richer?? JK Rowling or Bill Gates??? Bill Gates of course! He could probably buy all of JK Rowling's family.. he's that Filthy Rich

Posted by TheElfThatLied Oct 22nd 2009

...are some of you trying to compare a BOOK with an operating system???

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 22nd 2009

Lmao@ TheElfThatLied! I think they are....But PhoenixKnighter...JKR got so rich from ONLY writing books. She's the only person who's ever done that.

Posted by cigar95 Oct 22nd 2009

Since even the least expensive version of Windows 7 is selling for $120, it's not surprising that the product has surpassed DH based on total money. DH probably sold on pre-order for about $25, right? The two aren't comparable. There's no meaningful "surpassing" going on here.

Posted by hpninjaskills Oct 22nd 2009

Potter is still #1 to me :)

Posted by BellatrixCrucioYou Oct 22nd 2009

camken, haha that was freaking funny. I don't think anything can pass up return sales for twilight. Anyway I got home from school today and got on the computer. Guess what? My dad was downloading Windows 7 lolol. But HP will always be the best no matter what...well unless Jo writes some better spectacular book...

Posted by USAhermione Oct 22nd 2009

A) this is for UK Amazon, for those of you who didn't know. and B) What is so crappy about Vista? It took me all of 2 seconds to figure out how to work it.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 22nd 2009

Potter IS still number one. Like cigar95 said...it's not a fair comparison since it's two completely different products and one costs more than the other. Harry Potter STILL has the title for fasting selling book. DONT FORGET TO VOTE FOR HOLLYWOOD MOVIE OF THE YEAR! HP IS IN THE LEAD NOW BY 2% .

Posted by edwardhpgirl Oct 22nd 2009

wtf is this??!!?? BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Posted by Davidaccio Oct 22nd 2009

To all of you who use the computer for Tweeter, Facebook or Mugglenet; Windows 7 probably don't mean a thing. But, for me, an artist who wants control over what hardware devices I put in my case for digital imaging, painting and video editing; Windows 7 makes all the difference in the world. And I don't have to explain why. I'm not here to sell Microsoft. Some of you sound like fanatics not fans. And by the way, VISTA is one terrible operating system that is the equivalent of a car giving you only 55 miles an hour even if it has a Ferrari engine... it just slows everything down regardless of how powerful the processor is. Whatever!

Posted by Evan_Rosier Oct 23rd 2009

I might just hate Microsoft more than Warner Brothers....... Is that even possible?????

Posted by mione18 Oct 23rd 2009

Well, I use Linux, and I love it so I don't really care.

Posted by Spirit Oct 23rd 2009

Wow... there are way more nerdy people than I thought....
