Oh, my lord.............this will be pants. The only Brit accents Americans can do are broad Cockney (a la Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, bless him) or posh as in "lah de dah, anyone for tennis?". All sorts of local dialects are represented in HP. Neville is a Northerner, Luna is Irish, Draco and Harry are Estuary, Hermione is posh, Hagrid is West Country, Mc Gonogall is Scots, Barty Crouch is Welsh..... Its going to be horrible.
Everyone at HP world will sound ridiculous. In Frasier, Daphne and her mam were convincing. The rest of the family sounded plain stupid.
HAVE REAL BRITISH PEOPLE, for the love of Elvis!!!!!!

oh dear dear if they dont get anyone with a good british accent and us from england go over there to find americans trying to play british characters.......theyll have messed this whole park up! Why dont they just nab some british tourists and do it that way? Much easier! Its one thing having a good British accent, but you have to have lived there for some time to actually know and use British phrases......

I think youthful in appearance means 18 and up, legally able to work, and old enough to have transportation and no reason to not be able to come to work, I dont think every wizard or witch working there is going to be middle-aged, but, no kids worked in Hogsmead. Where does it say that it is for WWoHP? On the website, and in the flyers, it never says for WWoHP, unless Im mistaken. But, I dont see what else it could be for, and if it is for WWoHP, it says rehearsals are in January. This means its close to opening right?

specsy1, theyre obviously looking for professional actors, not from any old HP fan who walks into the audition. Dont worry, they

Biddy, I was about to say the exact same thing! Whenever an American does a British accent, it usually comes out sounding like the Queens English, all posh. They dont seem to realise that hardly anyone here actually speaks like that! Any British person going over there and listening to that is just going to laugh. They need to watch something like The Parole Officer or The Full Monty to get a good idea of what the average accent sound like over there. Its far from "Hermione talk".

Im sure anyone going, and actually wanting to be prepared and get the job, will research British dialect. I do, sort of, think that this is going to fail. Depending on how many people they need. People that can do a decent, consistent, acceptable, British accent, are few and far between. And if people quit, or they have to fire someone, they will need a replacement quickly, not really enough time to hold auditions. Also, there are other ethnicities in Hogwarts and Hogsmead, not only British, but Scottish, Irish, Indian, and whatever Cho Chang is. Also, there are the visitors from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, which may or may not be at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. In addition, sorry, but, no one needs to watch The Full Monty.

There are more ways to research dialect than renting movies. None of those movies will actually enlighten anyone as to what a British accent should sound like. They may give examples, but the best way to go would be to hire a dialect coach. I stand by my opinion that no one needs to subject themselves to that appalling movie.

Lol dya think they might want a "British" accent. BTW, British accent isnt true cause Britain is made up of 4 countries, need to be more specific IMO. Think Americans have the wrong percenption of what an English (etc) accent is anyways... but to be fair we cant do American accents either! Will be interesting to see though... if I can go... :)

A "British" accent is simply a broad term for any accentuated dialect belonging to persons with origins in Great Britain. There could be thousands, no two people speak exactly the same.

Well, quite. However, the major characters in the Harry Potter stories have distinct origins. Your viewpoint is very patronising, jhh7487. As has been clearly suggested, most Americans opt for a posh or a cockney Brit. This is amazingly simplistic. We are four countries in a small island, and each country has dozens of counties where the accent is clearly definable. Cho Changs voice in the films is Scottish, by the way. I would have thought that was obvious. Katie Leung is Scottish. The overall sound is RP, or recieved pronounciation - neither posh or cockney, ie. the French-born Emma Watson. However, Dumbledore is English, then Irish. Neville is distinctly Northern English. Luna is Southern Irish. Ron should be broad Devonshire, but prefers Estuary, as do so many young people. Dean is cockney in the books, but RP in the films. Hagrid is total Somerset. Tonks is Cockney in the book, but bizarrely from just outside Leeds( North England) (Barnsley?) in the audio books. Well have to ask Stephen Fry.
Whatever happens, the idea of a Harry Potter world set in a tropical environment, staffed by Americans, who dont appear anywhere in the books or films sounds like a great big display of spare cash to me. Nothing to do with canon. Highly dodgy.
