I honestly can't see that happening. Even putting my radical fandom aside, I just don't think that could be the case at all. The franchise will have been going on longer than a decade; Iron Man can not beat that even if it tried, it's just logic.

yeah--Harry Potter may not be the top movie of the year--but it's going to be close. There are some things that are just great and memorable in this world. These last two movies are going to be the best! And it's safe to say, that if it doesn't beat Iron Man 2 in the box office, Harry Potter will for surely give Iron Man a run for its money! :D

I don't believe that. The HP audience is MUCH MUCH MUCH wider in age range and gender compared to Iron Man. I also think they're underestimating the fan base for HP. If their reasoning is that we know what is going to happen then I can counter that with that we have known what's going to happen in all the films so far but does that stop us? I don't think so...

I think HP will surpass Iron Man. The fan base is huge and we have been waiting for the beginning of the end forever now. Pre-sale tickets alone might be what put the sales over the edge. I can't wait.... 2010 can't come soon enough!

its a sequel, i really doubt it will be as good as the first one. And this movie is the end, i think both part 1 and two are going to make more than SS. And HP the movies have been around alot longer than Iron Man, but that doesn't mean Iron Man won't be successful because it probably will be, just not as much as HP :)

While i love Iron man From all my heart , I can't see it making 900 million $ like HP , Also Hp 6 has made 932 million Untill now , That's a guaranteed 900 million $ for part 1 and 2 . im not entirely sure id use the "The plot takes the trainee wizards out of Hogwarts for much of the movie, resulting in a marked change of atmosphere compared to its predecessors. " as a reason it wont do well... after 6 movies, its time for a change of scenery... and i bet people will embrace the new atmosphere...

Erm....Iron Man 1 wasn't that great, I mean it was good and it had Robert Downey Jr in but it wasn't anything special. But then again they spend most of their time in the last book, and I quote from a Very Potter Musical, wandering around "The mundane British countryside..." so if that's what people think then I expect the first part of the Deathly Hallows has the potential to not do as well as other films (I highly doubt it though).

All im gonna say is I saw Iron man opening day by mistake. Wasnt that hard to get a good seat. Harry Potter on the other hand, I had to book tickets months before and wait over and hour to go inside the theatre

Iron man, really? That doesn't seem so likely. Even if Iron Man made $98,618,668 in it's opening weekend and HBP $77,835,727 (according to boxofficemojo) doesn't mean Iron Man 2 is going to be more succesful.. (it has probably more to do with that HBP was released in the middle of the week).

I don't agree, I think HP fans who have read the books are going to want to see if they screwed up the movie and HP fans who are just movie fans are going to see what happends next. I don't see how the DH book being out has anything to do with people no wanting to watch the movie.

Iron man WAS a good movie, but A. Usually Sequels (not series) suck and B. It's going up agains a Harry Potter film. C. It's the last book. What are they thinking? They must have someone from a different planet writing this stuff.

We are a huge HP fan family. Big time, for a decade. And, we loved Iron Man. Really - what a great film! Recommended it to lots of folks. BUT - we didn't go back and see it - three times! Never considered buying the soundtrack, or standing in line for hours to buy tickets so we could stand in line for hours to get good seats. A lot. Won't pre-order or even purchase the DVD, but will likely Red-Box it. Marvel fans are awesome, and I hope they get as good a sequel as the original. I just don't get the comparison. It's like when people compare Twilight to HP. Two completely different machines.

I could see why that could be true. The first day that Iron Man came out, it did so good, that they decided that same day to make a second one. Even if Iron Man does do better then Part 1, well who cares. 1st, 2nd, or 46th, I'm still a die hard HP fa and it doesn't matter to me what spot HP falls into.

The first Iron Man doesn't even come close to the Potter films. This one might get more hype, but this is also Part 1 on the last HP book. People want to see how the series ends, so that might give Harry more money.
