Jessica Stevenson to play Mafalda Hopkirk
Rumors have passed around the web for a few days now concerning Jessica Stevenson's arrival onto the cast of Order of the Phoenix. However, Yahoo! News is reporting today that she has been cast for the role of Mafalda Hopkirk, who works in the Improper Use of Magic Office at the Ministry of Magic.

You can see a photo of Jessica right here. HPFZ had originally reported this a few days ago.

Wow, intesresting news. I've never heard of her before though

Posted by RavenclawD69 Aug 24th 2006

Wow why is this tottaly unessacary info?

Posted by Jamandell_d69 Aug 24th 2006

Oh, wait a minute! I have seen her before! She's a hilarious comedian! She used to be in "Spaced" and "As told by Bex", as well as Shaun of the dead. Could bring a bit of humour hopefully to OotP

Posted by Arinia Aug 24th 2006

I don't remember her. I really don't think she's important enough to be cast...

Posted by prongs12433 Aug 24th 2006

wow andrew you're on a roll;)

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Aug 24th 2006

did they actually show her in the book?

Posted by iveblueangel05 Aug 24th 2006

That's cool.

Posted by Doodle Aug 24th 2006

HEHE! That's good, she's cool

Posted by LadyArwen06 Aug 24th 2006

Mafalda? Don't remember her...

Posted by evilbutsexy Aug 24th 2006

Interesting. I don't remember her character. *shrugs*

Posted by christianaeg Aug 24th 2006

WHAT THE POTATO! Mafalda just signs the letters that Harry gets at the beginning of OotP people! The ones from the Ministry of Magic! Never really appears! Why she was cast... I wonder how they'll sneek her in..

Posted by Tauriel Aug 24th 2006

She'll probably appear in the movie only for a couple of seconds, I guess. Maybe she'll be present at the Wizengamot trial? Still I don't see why people are making so much fuzz over every minor character casting. She might not even make it into the final cut, who knows...

Posted by Gotpotter269 Aug 24th 2006

she's pretty cool, but i don't remember that character.

Posted by DnlW Aug 24th 2006

Why would they need that character? I don't understand what her role is gonna be...unless instead of a letter being sent...itll be her face in the fireplace.

Posted by TheFifthMarauder Aug 24th 2006

I've never heard about her before? And was Mafalda Hopkirk in the movie? Didn't she just send Harry a letter??? Top 20!!

Posted by ladyduke0307 Aug 24th 2006

YES. She was brilliant in Shaun of the Dead. It was a small part, but it was funny nevertheless. One of my favorite movies!

Posted by sugarquill Aug 24th 2006

yeah was she in the movie?

Posted by Dumbledorezgirl Aug 24th 2006

omg! i thought you people were HP fans! you should remember Mafalda! go read the holy book again! btw, i just saw the trailer for ''driving lessons''. it looks really good!

Posted by sectumsempra99 Aug 24th 2006

she's totally right for the role, although its not big...

Posted by edgewick Aug 24th 2006

*squees* yay jazzy jess!! i loves her so much so pleased shes a part of hp. going to be super ^_^

Posted by __xlaura Aug 24th 2006

Ugh Im being an idiot, but I just thought she signed letters from the Ministry, I didnt think they ever actually showed her. But perhaps she'll be in the Wizengamot scene? Seems strange to cast her. Oh well.

Posted by Lupin4president Aug 24th 2006

This is interesting... She was never shown in the book. Instead of a letter appearing, maybe her head will appear in the dursley's fire to make a more cinematic effect. Creative. This is better than the letter. Or maybe her head could pop out of the envelope, a la Star Wars ( the 3d figurine that communicates messages). The storytelling would flow better this way, I suppose. is d69 still in existance? I thought they had banned it or something. I used to be a member! :)

Posted by i_love_starburst Aug 24th 2006

Oh wow, now we need Simon Pegg. xD

Posted by Mrs_Finnegan Aug 24th 2006

Cool...that's not a very big role. I mean like do we even see her?

Posted by hp323232 Aug 24th 2006

cul i think she will do good, i have heard of here before but just briefly, but she doesnt even talk or anythig does she? but anyway congrats!!!

Posted by dobbyz_left_sock Aug 24th 2006

heh heh...that was supposed to say 'hold everything' not hod everything and 'love it' not loe it..... dang im tired...... and i cant type...

Posted by crazy_ned Aug 24th 2006

Mafalda is a fox. :D

Posted by psu2003 Aug 24th 2006

While I'm not opposed to the actress or anything, I wonder WHY their casting some of these characters. As far as we know, Mafalda simply signs the letters from the ministry! It seems to me that showing her doing that would waste precious screen time that could be used for the DoM battle, or other more important things! Hopefully she'll just be at Harry's hearing or something like that. If not, then it's a waste of casting!

Posted by dobbyz_left_sock Aug 24th 2006

i sssssssssssssoooooooooo agree w/ psu2003.....i mean come on.....she obviously isnt that important or jkr woodve put her in doin summ besides signing letters........

Posted by SuzieQ Aug 24th 2006

this entirely sums up my opinion on the matter: "WHAT THE POTATO! Mafalda just signs the letters that Harry gets at the beginning of OotP people! The ones from the Ministry of Magic! Never really appears! Why she was cast... I wonder how they'll sneek her in.. Posted by christianaeg 2 hours ago" thanks for writing that christianaeg!

Posted by Pink_Pygmy_Puff Aug 24th 2006

Here's the thing we all had our own view on how each book should be on the screen and there is no way any of us can say we saw it the way they finally came out. so i think we need to have faith that it will all tie in, or maybe yahoo news was wrong who knows. it is strange that they are casting such a small role.

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Aug 24th 2006

Dumbledorezgirl we remember Mafalda but Im pretty sure she doesnt make an appearance, she just signs letters

Posted by inomoreabouthpthnu Aug 24th 2006

Maybe her *voice* reads the letter as harry reads them?

Posted by Ilovedanielradcliffe Aug 24th 2006

... erm... uh... wha.... uuumm........................ WHO? MINISTRY WHATY? HUH? AGAIN............................ WHO? Mafalda.. WHOM? I hope I am not the only one confused here... if they are going to cast Mafalda they should cast ERIC THE TELEPHONE BOOTH GUARD.

Posted by zachattack Aug 24th 2006

UM.....I guess thats cool......Well what ever im soo excited for the 5th movie...well i think every one is lol....Well...WE LOVE U JO!

Posted by inomoreabouthpthnu Aug 24th 2006

Posted by freepalestine_abm Aug 24th 2006

mafalda...dont quite remember her but her name rings a bell

Posted by the_sexorcist Aug 24th 2006

Wasn't that the name of the chick JK cut out of the fourth book? Now I'm confused.

Posted by HPgurl4eva Aug 24th 2006

She does look pretty stern enough to be a member of the Ministry!

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Aug 24th 2006

the_sexorcist, no that was like mopsy the dog lover or something...

Posted by AnakinVader1138 Aug 24th 2006

I'm a huge fan of Spaced and I love Jessica Stevenson. I'm suprised more of you Brits haven't heard of her. Anyway, I'm glad she's in the movie, but I always though she'd be better suited for the role of Winky if they ever decided to put her in, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. Hopkirk is an odd choice for her, but it's better than nothing.

Posted by amandarose Aug 24th 2006

why do they cast completely useless characters, and then completely forget about others? lame. but thanks for sharing anyway.

Posted by kird Aug 24th 2006

Ahh, I love Jessica Stevenson, she was brilliant in Spaced and Confetti. I doubt her comedy genius will be acknowledged, because the roll is probably quite minor, but it's nice to see some British cult comedy actors in the movies...you never know, they might cast Dylan Moran as Rufus Scrimgeour in Half Blood Prince!!

Posted by TheWordsUnspoken Aug 24th 2006

oh good! im not the only one that has no clue who Mafalda Hopkirk is. i read that and was like "who is Mafalda Hopkirk...?"

Posted by quidditch7 Aug 24th 2006

oops, i got all excited and posted it under the wrong one!

Posted by flipgirl Aug 24th 2006

Wow, I didn't even know you see her. Not the biggest role in the whole movie but it must be an honor to be in Harry Potter. Gosh, I would die of excitment and not even be able to do whatever role. Well go whoever you are!

Posted by Dan_fan Aug 24th 2006

I'm in the middle of re-reading the book and I don't remember Mafalda Hopkirk.

Posted by coldethyl Aug 24th 2006

I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!! SERIOUSLY EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH SPACED :D!

Posted by mariapuff Aug 24th 2006
